Analysis of Landscape Vitality of Historical and Cultural Blocks Based on AHPFuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation Method:A Case Study of Daopashi Street in Anqing City

Historical and cultural blocks are witnesses of history and inheritors of culture. As one of the main spaces for outdoor interaction in historical and cultural blocks, the improvement of its vitality is of great significance for the improvement of residential environment and the better inheritance of history and culture. Taking Daopashi Street in Anqing City as an example, an evaluation model of landscape spatial vitality of historical and cultural blocks was constructed from three aspects of viewing function, store status and service facilities, and analytic hierarchy process was used to determine the index weight and vaguely evaluate the landscape spatial vitality of historical and cultural blocks. The results show that through the comparison of weight, architectural style(0.317), the practicability of service facilities(0.168) and plant landscape(0.165) had a significant impact on the landscape spatial vitality of historical and cultural blocks,and the landscape spatial vitality of historical and cultural blocks in Daopashi Street in Anqing City was at a good level.

Research on Protection Methods of Historic and Cultural Villages in Zhejiang Province

By the investigation of a few historical and cultural villages in Zhejiang Province,some problems during the process of protecting these villages were found,like similar construction pattern,coarse quality of construction,etc. which caused that villages were losing their characters. For this situation,the protection method of historical cultural villages was put forward,which was that to connect excavating character of different village with maintaining spatial fabrics of historical villages,and that different classes of building should have corresponding protection approach. Some advices were proposed for repairing and promoting historic and cultural elements,natural environment,and constructing infrastructure in the village,which will provide a reference for the construction of other historical and cultural villages.

IUID Method-Mix: Towards a Systematic Approach for Intercultural User Interface Design (IUID)

A method-mix for intercultural user interface design (IUID) is explained and exemplified by application examples based on a hybrid approach covering cultural contexts in human-computer interaction (HCI) design using a model of culturally influenced HCI. Cultural influence on HCI is described using cultural variables for user interface design. Assumptions and empirical results regarding the influence of culture on HCI, considering the path of the information processing and the interaction style between Chinese and German users are explained based on cultural models. Subsequent indicators represent the relationship between culture and HCI (culturally imprinted by the user). Correlations adopted theoretically between cultural dimensions and variables for HCI design were investigated. These correlations represent relevant constituents of a model for culturally influenced HCI. Considerations applying this model and evidence for the proper application of the IUID method-mix are presented elucidating why and how cultural aspects play a role in HCI design and usability/UX engineering. The IUID method-mix serves to inspire HCI engineers in the requirement analysis phase as well as HCI designers in the design phase. The readers are thereby sensitized to the challenges of intercultural usability/UX engineering and intercultural HCI design and will be equipped with methodological knowledge relevant to the derivation of design recommendations for user interface design for and in their desired cultural contexts. Finally, implications for practitioners are shown, including HCI style scores and practical design recommendations, to prognosticate the effort and the expenditures for considering the cultural context in IUID.

西方文化地理研究的研究取向、资料搜集与展示方式——基于《Social& Cultural Geography》刊载论文的内容分析

采用内容分析的方法,对2008、2009年《Social & Cultural Geography》所刊载论文的资料搜集方法、分析方法、佐证材料类型进行了统计。研究发现:西方文化地理研究更倾向于定性研究的取向,强调研究者本身挖掘社会素材的能力和诠释材料的智慧和客观性。在资料搜集与展示方面,西方学者更加倾向于进行实地研究,多采用参与式观察、访谈等多种方式获取大量的资料,善用文字资料、照片等多种证据来证明研究的信度和效度。本研究希望通过西方经典文化地理文献的梳理,引起国内研究人员对定性研究取向的重视,以及对文本资料、照片等证据作为学术研究成果表达方式的重视。

Study on Surface Sterilization Method for Tissue Culture of Haloxylon ammodendron(C.A.Mey.) Bunge Seeds

[ Objective ] The aim was to select appropriate sterilization methods and explants for tissue culture of Haloxylon ammodendron （ C. A. Mey. ）. [Method] H. ammodendron （C. A. Mey. ） seeds were used as experimental materials to investigate the sterilization results of different sterilization treatments and the effect of different seed sizes on the survival rate of aseptic seedlings. [ Result] Sterilization of H. ammodendron （ C.A. Mey. ） seeds achieved the best result by using 75% alcohol for 15 min and 0.1% mercuric chloride for 8 min. Seeds with diameter φ 〉 2.0 mm were used as explants and achieved relatively high surviv- al rate of aseptic seedlings, which reached above 65%. [ Conclusion] This study established a surface sterilization method for tissue culture of H. ammodendron （ C. A. Mey. ） Bunge seeds.

A Brief Study on Culture Shock over Overseas Students and the Solution to New Cultural Environments

Culture shock is one of the common experiences by students and people abroad. They may experience the feeling of anxiety, disorientation, confusion, and even hostility because of misunderstanding to each other."Culture shock"refers to the phenomenon in which people engage in the interaction feel depressed, discomfortable, etc. Culture shock may be caused by the conflict of various value systems when students and people enter a new culture and other value system. Culture shock is also a consequence of the influence of the negative life event. The changes in one's life and lack of support from family members,friends will make them more vulnerable and cause great discomfort in the new environment.

Effects of nitrogen specification and culture method on growth of Enteromorpha prolifera

Eutrophication, which is the enrichment of a water mass with inorganic and organic nutrients that support plant growth, is a key factor in stimulating phytoplankton growth. In this study, we determined the effects of various nitrogen sources, different nitrogen concentrations in the culture medium, and two culture methods on the growth of the green alga, Enteromorpha prolifera. The relationship between the specific growth rate of E. prolifera and NO3--N concentration was consistent with that estimated using the Monod equation (R2 = 0.9713, P < 0.01). In the NO3--N medium, the maximum specific growth rate was calculated to be 0.1634/d and the semi-saturation constant was calculated to be 16.86 μmol/L. Our results show that E. prolifera can effectively utilize NH4+-N, NO3--N, and NO2--N and urea-N in the range of 5 to 50 μmol/L. NH4+-N was preferentially assimilated by E. prolifera, and urea-N was favorable for long-term growth.

Effect of culture methods on individual variation in the growth of sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus within a cohort and family

There is substantial individual variation in the growth rates of sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus individuals. This necessitates additional work to grade the seed stock and lengthens the production period. We evaluated the infl uence of three culture methods(free-mixed, isolated-mixed, isolated-alone) on individual variation in growth and assessed the relationship between feeding, energy conversion efficiency, and individual growth variation in individually cultured sea cucumbers. Of the different culture methods, animals grew best when reared in the isolated-mixed treatment(i.e., size classes were held separately), though there was no difference in individual variation in growth between rearing treatment groups. The individual variation in growth was primarily attributed to genetic factors. The difference in food conversion efficiency caused by genetic differences among individuals was thought to be the origin of the variance. The level of individual growth variation may be altered by interactions among individuals and environmental heterogeneity. Our results suggest that, in addition to traditional seed grading, design of a new kind of substrate that changes the spatial distribution of sea cucumbers would effectively enhance growth and reduce individual variation in growth of sea cucumbers in culture.

Polymerase Chain Reaction-Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) Profile of Bacterial Community from Agricultural Soils in Bauchi, North-East Nigeria

The population dynamics of bacterial community was investigated in three Agricultural soils, designated as Loamy sand (A), Peaty coarse (B) and Loamy coarse sand (C) in North-East, Nigeria. The soil chemical properties were characterized to fully understand their nature. Metagenomic approach was used to extract soil DNA using the fast DNA Spin Kit extraction technique. The PCR-electrophoresed DNA bands were excised and subjected to a full scale Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (DGGE) analysis. DGGE fingerprinting for the PCR-16S rDNA product revealed a diverse profile of complex population of bacterial community in the study area. The study shows that more bacterial community can be fully investigated using molecular techniques rather than traditional culture method. The implication of the results obtained is discussed.

Multi-Cultural Dynamics on Social Networks under External Random Perturbations

This work deals with the development of multi-cultural network-centric dynamic models under the influence of personal intra- and inter-members, as well as community. Each individual member of a society is influenced by her/his interactions with fellow members of the family, neighborhood, region and the universe. The behavior of such complex and highly interacting social networks is characterized by stochastic interconnected dynamical systems. The primary goal is on laying down an investigation of both qualitative and quantitative properties of this network dynamical system. In particular, we would like to determine the regions of conflicts and coexietence as well as to establish the cohesion and stability of emerging states. This is achieved by employing the method of system of differential inequalities and comparison theorems in the context of the energy function. The developed energy function method provides estimates for regions of conflict and cooperation. Moreover, the method also provides sufficient conditions for the community cohesion and stability in a systematic way.

Study and promotion of safety culture using mixed methods research

Objective:With a positive safety culture,institutions offer the best quality and safe care to their patients.The objective of this study was to analyze patient safety culture from the perspective of the multidisciplinary team,to identify factors that influence patient safety culture,and to create/promote-jointly with the study participants-strategies for improving processes of change.Methods:The study design represented a mixed methods research approach,with a sequential explanatory design.A multidisciplinary team of workers at a general hospital was eligible for the study.To collect quantitative data,we administered the Safety Attitudes Questionnaire(SAQ).The qualitative phase was accomplished via focus groups(FGs),with participants from the first phase of the study using the principles of deliberative dialogue(DD)as a knowledge-translation strategy.The STROBE guideline was used to develop the study.Results:The overall SAQ score was positive(75.1±10.4).Negative scores were found in the fields of Safety Climate,Working Conditions,and Stress Recognition.Focus group discussions identified the aspects that create a negative impact on safety culture,such as ineffective communication,punitive approach in the event of errors,the lack of commitment and adherence to the protocols,and the non-recognition of the stress and the mistakes.Actions for the promotion of safety culture were developed and implemented during the study.Conclusions:The use of the principles of DD as a strategy for knowledge translation(KT)made it possible to identify and plan for joint actions to generate improvements in safety culture.

On the Cultural Contents and Settlements of Northern Taiwan’s Prehistoric Peoples

This paper makes use of the most recent archaeological data to examine and present the lifestyles at prehistoric settlements of northern Taiwan,in order to understand the developmental changes in the appearances of cultural contents and settlement patterns of these prehistoric cultures of northern Taiwan over several thousand years.On the basis of current archaeological data,it is clear that Shuntanpu Early Culture,Shuntanpu Late Culture,Yuanshan Culture,Botanical Garden Culture,and Shihsanhang Culture all had stilt-type(raised-platform)housing.Wooden pillars were erected in round holes of approximately 10-20 cm(though some are larger)dug into the earth,gravel layer,or sandstone bedrock,and it is surmised that these were then made more stable by packing small stones or ramming earth into the holes around the pillars.Coming to the long-standing controversy as to the origins of the Shihsanhang Culture,Shihsanhang Culture clearly inherited important content from the prehistoric cultures that inhabited northern Taiwan over the previous several thousand years and represents the developmental evolution of northern Taiwan archaeological cultures.One other aspect:Shihsanhang Culture has a stronger maritime character.Not only did it have frequent contacts with other contemporaneous archaeological cultures in Taiwan,but also conducted trading interactions with people in China and Southeast Asia,shaping Shihsanhang’s complex and unique cultural appearance.
