Fractions of a water insoluble α-(1→3)-D-glucan (GL) extracted from Ganoderma lucidum were carboxy-methylated (CM) to obtain water-soluble carboxymethylated derivatives (CM-GL) having a degree of substitution (DS) of0.38~0.51. Weight-average molecular weight M_w and intrinsic viscosity [η] of the samples CM-GL were measured by gelpermeation chromatography combined with laser light scattering (GPC-LLS) and viscometry. The CM-GL exhibits a stifferchain in aqueous solution at 25℃ than the original glucan, The antitumor activities against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC,5×10~6) of the carboxymethylated derivatives from the α-glucan and curdlan, a β-glucan, are significantly higher than thoseof the original glucans. The effects of the relatively low molecular weight, expanded chains and better water-solubility of theCM-GL on the enhancement of antitumor activity could not be neglected. The chain stiffness decreased speedily withincrease of temperature from 40 to 60℃ or NaOH concentration from 0.1 to 0.4 in the solution, respectively, and the changeof the chain stiffness is reversible. 展开更多

The association behavior of starch and chitosan and the dilute solution properties of the starch/chitosan complex were investigated by means of resonance light scattering(RLS) spectra.The interaction between starch and chiotsan was proved by RLS.Based on the results,the appropriate association condition was selected.However,the solution property of starch/chitosan was affected greatly by external factors such as pH value and metal ionic strength.The change of pH,which causes the irreversible transition of solution from transparent into murky,provides some important information of partitioning behavior of the complex in solution.The durative enhancement of RLS intensity for the complex exhibited two inflexions and a plateau in the presence of a certain amount of Fe 3+.It indicates that Fe 3+ not only increases the RLS intensity,but also induces the micell-aggregate transition of the complex in solution.Moreover,the thermodynamic parameters for micell formation process at different temperatures,based on the RLS values,were calculated. 展开更多

Four bioactive peroxovanadium(pV) complexes bpV(ox), bpV(bipy), bpV(phen) and bpV(pic), ([VO(O_2)_2L] n-, where ligand L=oxalic acid dianion(ox), bipyridine(bipy), 1,10-phenanthroline(phen), and pyridine-2-carboxylic acid(pic), were synthesized and characterized by 51V NMR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, ESI-MS, IR and elemental analysis. All 1H and 13C peaks were assigned by 2D 1H-1H COSY, HMQC and HMBC. Their stereochemical structures in solution were discussed according to the NMR signals of organic ligands. The descending stability order of complexes in aqueous solution determined by 51V NMR is bpV(phen), bpV(bipy), bpV(pic) and pV(ox). The predominant decomposition patterns of these complexes were proposed on the basis of electrospray ionization MS (ESI-MS) and 51V NMR. This work will facilitate the studies of interactions between pV complexes and target biomolecules in solution so as to clarify structure-function relationship of these bioactive complexes. 展开更多

The electronic structure and thermoelectric(TE) properties of PbS_xTe_(1-x)(x = 0.25, 0.5, and 0.75) solid solution have been studied by combining the first-principles calculations and semi-classical Boltzmann theory. The special quasirandom structure(SQS) method is used to model the solid solutions of PbS_xTe_(1-x), which can produce reasonable electronic structures with respect to experimental results. The maximum zT value can reach 1.67 for p-type PbS0.75Te0.25 and 1.30 for PbS0.5Te0.5 at 800 K, respectively. The performance of p-type PbS_xTe_(1-x) is superior to the n-type ones, mainly attributed to the higher effective mass of the carriers. The z T values for PbS_xTe_(1-x) solid solutions are higher than that of pure Pb Te and Pb S, in which the combination of low thermal conductivity and high power factor play important roles. 展开更多

Erwinia (E) gum, an extracellular polysaccharide, is composed of fucose, galatose, glucose and glucuronic acid. Its viscosity behavior was investigated by a low-shear-rate multiball viscometer and a rotational viscometer. Its weight-average molecular weight M-w and intrinsic viscosity [eta] in 0.2 mol/L NaCl aqueous solution were measured by light scattering method at 35 degrees C and viscometry at 25 degrees C and found to be 1.06 x 10(6) g/mol and 1050 mL/g, respectively, and its aggregates in aqueous solution were proved by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). These results indicated that E gum in water has exceedingly high viscosity and exhibits Binham fluid behavior, owing to its aggregation. The viscosity of E gum decreased with increasing temperature, and the turning point appeared at 38 degrees C for dilute solution and 80 degrees C for concentrated solution suggesting that the aggregates of E gum in water started to disaggregate under these temperatures. In addition, the aggregates can be disrupted by adding either acid or base. The experimental results indicated that the E gum is a good thickening agent, and its fluid behavior is similar to xanthan. 展开更多

The reduced viscosities, η_(sp)/C,ofchitosan solutions were dependent on the properties of acid and pH value of solvents. For a givenchitosan concentration, η^(sp)/C decreased with the increase of acid concentration, or decreasing pHof solvent, indicating shielding effect of excessive acid similar to adding salt into solution. Thestabilities of dilute chitosan solution in formic acid and lactic acid were better than that in acetic acid and hvdrochloric acid. 展开更多

The morphological characteristics and phase transformation of the combusted powder and the Fe-Ni-Y2O3 nanocomposites were characterized by XRD, FESEM and TEM.Porous Fe-Ni-Y2O3 nanocomposites with crystallite size below 100 nm were obtained after reduction. The morphology, phases and magnetic property of Fe-Ni-Y2O3 nanocomposites reduced at different temperatures were investigated. The Fe-Ni-Y2O3 nanocomposite reduced at 900 °C has the maximum saturation magnetization and the minimum coercivity values of 167.41 A/(m2·kg)and 3.11 k A/m, respectively. 展开更多

In this paper, the rigid structural thermosensitive polymer (made in lab) of NBS (N-butyl styrene), N, N-DEAM (diethyl acrylamide) and AM (acrylamide) was prepared. The influence of viscosity for copolymer solution under different reaction conditions such as temperatures and inorganic salt (monovalent salt and divalent salt) was analyzed. The experiment studies the combination of polymer situation and three different types of surfactants under certain conditions of the room temperature (25℃) and the formation temperature (76℃). At last, the influence of the surfactant kinds and concentration on the viscosity of the polymer solution are studied. The results show that: The copolymer solution, the apparent viscosity of which decreases with the increasement of temperature, but its viscosity has suddenly increased and thereafter dropped in the transition temperature. So the temperature sensitive effect ofcopolymer is very significantly. When the concentration of inorganic salt and surfactant can be controlled in certain extent, the copolymer solution, the effect increases with the increasement of the concentration, but the viscosity of which decreases with the increasement of shear rate. Shear rate can be controlled in certain extent, shearing stability properties of the copolymer solution are proved. 展开更多

Effects of Ti, Hf, Nb and W alloying elements addition on the microstructure and the mechanical behaviors of NiAl-Cr(Mo) intermetallic alloy were investigated by means of XRD, SEM, EDX and compression tests. The results show that Ni-31Al-30Cr-4Mo-2(Ti, Hf, Nb, W) alloy consists of four phases: NiAl, ??Cr solid solution, Cr2Nb and Ni2Al(Ti, Hf). The mechanical properties are improved significantly compared with the base alloy. The compression yield strength at 1 373 K is 467 MPa and the room temperature compression ductility is 17.87% under the strain rate of 5.56??0-3 s-1, due to the existence of Cr2Nb and Ni2Al(Ti, Hf) phases for strengthening and Ti solid solution in NiAl matrix and coarse Cr(Mo, W) solid solution phase at cellular boundaries for ductility. The elevated temperature compression deformation behavior of the alloy can be properly described by power-law equation: ε=0.898 σ8.47exp[-615/(RT)]. 展开更多

The influence of long-term solution treatment for various intervals on the microstructure,mechanical properties,and corrosion resistance of the as-cast Mg–5Zn–1.5Y alloy was investigated.Variation of secondary phases was studied during solution treatment through thermal analysis test and thermodynamic calculations.Tensile and hardness tests,as well as polarization and immersion tests,were performed to evaluate the mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of the ascast and heat-treated alloy,respectively.Results show that solution treatment transforms I-phaseinto W-phaseas well as dissolves it into the a-Mg matrix to some extent;therefore,the amount of W-phase increases.Moreover,prolonged solution treatment decreases the volume fraction of the phases.In the first stage of solution treatment for 14 h,the tensile properties significantly increase due to the incomplete phase transformation.Although long-term solution treatment sharply decreases the tensile and hardness properties of the alloy,it improves the corrosion resistance due to the transformation of I-phase into W-phase.In fact,it decreases corrosion potential and simultaneously dissolves intermetallic compounds into the a-Mg matrix,resulting in the reduction in galvanic microcells between the matrix and compounds.It is found that the optimum time for long-term solution treatment is 14 h,which improves both corrosion behavior and mechanical properties. 展开更多

The effect of solution annealing on the microstructure and mechanical properties of a Ni-Cr-W-Fe alloy developed for advanced 700?C ultra-supercritical power plants was investigated. Test samples in this study were subjected to different solution treatments and the same aging treatment(at 760?C for 1 h).When solution annealing temperature was elevated from 1020?C to 1150?C, the stress-rupture life at750?C/320 MPa was increased from 60 h to 300 h, the stress-rupture elongation was enhanced from12% to 17%, and the elongation of the tensile at 750?C was improved from 11% to 24%. All tensile and stress-rupture samples displayed an intergranular dimple mixed fracture. Intergranular micro-cracks had a great relationship with the morphology of grain boundary carbides. Most carbides retained the morphology of globular shape and continuous thin plate. After tensile and stress-rupture tests, a few carbides were converted into lamellar. The results showed that intergranular micro-cracks were easier to form at continuous thin plate carbides than at globular shape carbides. Lamellar carbides hardly caused the nucleation of micro-cracks. Besides, grain boundaries sliding and elements diffusion during stressrupture tests led to the formation of precipitate free zones, which accelerated the extension of microcracks and influenced the stress-rupture life. 展开更多

It is also proved that if the equation is analytic,then the solutions withpiecewise analytic data are piecewise analytic,and the shock curves are also piecewise analytic. Wedisprove the conjecture which claims that almost every solution with C^k data is 'bad' enough, and provethat every solution with C^k data possesses nice propetied, i.e. when k≥4 the generic property ofsolutions is piecewise C^k,and hence is 'good' enough.For the proof of the generic property withC^k (k≥4) data, the idea of transversality in the theory of singular points is essential. 展开更多

The paper presents a flow plasma reactor permitting modification of the properties of water/aqueous solutions by stochastic resonance amplification of vibrations of selected chemical species in water with electromagnetic noise generated during a plasma discharge. The main parameters characterizing the quality for super-pure water, tap water and water from the intake in Besko (Poland) before and after the process in the plasma reactor were presented for comparison. In addition, the <sup>17</sup>O NMR (the full width at half maximum) and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI MS) methods were used to determine differences in physicochemical parameters between the untreated and plasma-treated water. It has been established that the water subjected to plasma treatment shows much different gas absorption properties than the untreated water samples, as a function of temperature and pressure, in this paper we report exemplary data for CO<sub>2</sub>, oxygen and acetylene. The improved gas absorption properties of the plasma-treated water make it attractive for the use in industrial processes. It is worth pointing to a great capacity of the new reactor (4000 l/h), and low energy consumption (20 MJ/h) for the treatment of the above mentioned volume flow rate of water. 展开更多

Light weight and mechanically strong α-chitin aerogels were fabricated using the sol-gel/self-assembly method from α-chitin in different aqueous alkali hydroxide(KOH, Na OH and Li OH)/urea solutions. All of the α-chitin solutions exhibited temperature-induced rapid gelation behavior. 13 C nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) spectra revealed that the aqueous alkali hydroxide/urea solutions are non-derivatizing solvents for α-chitin. Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR), X-ray diffraction(XRD) and cross-polarization magic angle spinning(CP/MAS) 13 C NMR confirmed that α-chitin has a stable aggregate structure after undergoing dissolution and regeneration. Subsequently, nanostructured α-chitin aerogels were fabricated by regeneration from the chitin solutions in ethanol and then freeze-drying from t-Bu OH. These α-chitin aerogels exhibited high porosity(87% to 94%), low density(0.09 to 0.19 g/cm^3), high specific surface area(419 to 535 m^2/g) and large pore volume(2.7 to 3.8 cm^3/g). Moreover, the α-chitin aerogels exhibited good mechanical properties under compression and tension models. A series of MgO-based adsorbents were prepared through solution–combustion synthesis and ball-milling process.The prepared MgO-based powders were characterized using X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,N_2 physisorption measurements,and employed as potential adsorbents for CO_2 adsorption.The influence of structural and textural properties of these adsorbents over the CO_2 adsorption behaviour was also investigated.The results showed that MgO-based products prepared by solution–combustion and ball-milling processes,were highly porous,fluffy,nanocrystalline structures in nature,which are unique physico-chemical properties that significantly contribute to enhance their CO_2 adsorption.It was found that the MgO synthesized by solution combustion process,using a molar ratio of urea to magnesium nitrate(2:1),and treated by ball-milling during 2.5 hr(MgO-BM2.5h),exhibited the maximum CO_2 adsorption capacity of 1.611 mmol/g at 25℃ and 1 atm,mainly via chemisorption.The CO_2 adsorption behaviour on the MgO-based adsorbents was correlated to their improved specific surface area,total pore volume,pore size distribution and crystallinity.The reusability of synthesized MgO-BM2.5h was confirmed by five consecutive CO_2adsorption–desorption times,without any significant loss of performance,that supports the potential of MgO-based adsorbent.The results confirmed that the special features of MgO prepared by solution–combustion and treated by ball-milling during 2.5 hr are favorable to be used as effective MgO-based adsorbent in post-combustion CO_2 capture technologies. 展开更多
