Incorporating rate and state friction laws, stability of linearly stable (i.e., with stiffness greater than the critical value) spring-slider systems subjected to triggering perturbations was analyzed under variable normal stress condition, and comparison was made between our results and that of fixed normal stress cases revealed in previous studies. For systems associated with the slip law, the critical mag- nitude of rate steps for triggering unstable slips are found to have a similar pattern to the fixed normal stress case, and the critical velocity steps scale with a/(b - a) when k = kcr for both cases. The rate-step boundaries for the variable normal stress cases are revealed to be lower than the fixed normal stress case by 7 %-16 % for a relatively large ct = 0.56 with (b - a)/a ranging from 0.25 to 1, indicating easier triggering under the variable normal stress condition with rate steps. The difference between fixed and variable normal stress cases decreases when the α value is smaller. In the same slip- law-type systems, critical displacements to trigger instability are revealed to be little affected by the variable normal stress condition. When k 〉 kcr(V,), a spring-slider system with the slowness law is much more stable than with the slip law, suggesting that the slowness law fits experimental data better when a single state variable is adopted. In stick-slip motions, the variable normal stress case has larger stress drops than the constant normal stress case. The variable normal stress has little effect on the range of slip velocity in systems associated with the slowness law, whereas systems associated with the slip law have a slowest slip velocity immensely smaller than the fixed normal stress case, by ~ 10 orders of magnitude. 展开更多

For characteristics of open and far from thermodynamic equilibrium in welding chemical reaction, a new kind of quantitative method, which is used to analyze direction and extent for chemical reaction of SiO2/Fe during quasi-steady state period, is introduced with the concept of non-equilibrium stationary state. The main idea is based on thermodynamic driving forces, which result in non-zero thermodynamic fluxes and lead to chemical reaction far away from thermodynamic equilibrium. There exists certain dynamic equilibrium relationship between rates of diffusion fluxes in liquid phase of reactants or products and the rate equation of chemical reaction when welding is in quasi-steady state. As result of this, a group of non-linear equations containing concentrations of all substances at interface of slag/liquid-metal may be established. Moreover the stability of this non-equilibrium stationary state is discussed using dissipative structure theory and it is concluded theoretically that this non-equilibrium stationary state for welding chemical reaction is of stability. 展开更多

In this paper we are interested in the large time behavior of the nonlinear diffusion equationWe consider functions which allow the equation to possess traveling wave solutions. We first present an existence and uniqueness as well as some comparison principle result of generalized solutions to the Cauchy problem. Then we give for some threshold results, from which we can see that u=a is stable, while u= 0 or u=1 is unstable under some assumptions, etc. 展开更多

The stabilization problem of linear time-varying systems with both state and input constraints is considered. Sufficient conditions for the existence of the solution to this problem are derived and a gain-switched(gain-scheduled) state feedback control scheme is built to stabilize the constrained timevarying system. The design problem is transformed to a series of convex feasibility problems which can be solved efficiently. A design example is given to illustrate the effect of the proposed algorithm. 展开更多

The problems of robust exponential stability in mean square and delayed state feedback stabilization for uncertain stochastic systems with time-varying delay are studied. By using Jensen's integral inequality and combining with the free weighting matrix approach, new delay-dependent stability conditions and delayed state feedback stabilization criteria are obtained in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Meanwhile, the proposed delayed state feedback stabilization criteria are more convenient in application than the existing ones since fewer tuning parameters are involved. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods. 展开更多

The geometries and vibrational frequencies of the ground and low-lying excited states for B_3, B_3^- and B_3^+ are determined with the energy gradient method using the polarized double-zeta(6-31G*) basis set. The stabilities for the states of B_3,B_3^- and B_3^+ have been investigated based on the vibrational analysis. The correlation energy obtained for each state is considered with the configuration interaction (CISD+Q) technique. B_3 and B_3^+ have stable equilateral triangle geometry, while B_3^- has stable equilateral triangle, isosceles triangle and linear geometries. The Jahn-Teller distortion for a ~3E' state of B_3^- in D_(3h) symmetry is also discussed. 展开更多

A method of extracting and detecting vehicle stability state characteristics based on entropy is proposed. The vehicle’s longitudinal and lateral dynamics models are established for complex driving and maneuver conditions. The corresponding state observer is designed by adopting the moving horizon estimation algorithm, which realizes the observation of the vehicle stability state considering the global state information.Meanwhile, the Shannon entropy is modified to approximate entropy, and the approximate entropy value of the observed vehicle state is calculated.Furthermore, the optimal controller is designed to further validate the reliability of the entropy value as the reference of control system.Simulation results demonstrate that this method can quickly detect the instability state of the system during the process of vehicle driving, which provides a reference for risk prediction and active control. 展开更多

Based on uniaxial tensile and plane strain deformation tests, the effects of strain states on the stability of RA (retained austenite) in medium Mn steels, which were subjected to IA (intercritical annealing) and Q&P (quenching and partitioning) processing, were investigated. The volume fractions of RA before and after deformation were measured at different equivalent strains. The transformation behaviors of RA were also investigated. The stability of RA differed across two different transformation stages at the plane strain state: the stability was much lower in the first stage than in the second stage. For the uniaxial ten sion strain state, the stability of RA corresponded only to a single transformation stage. The main reason was that there were two types of transformations from RA in the medium Mn steel for the plane strain state. One type was that the martensite originated in the strain-induced stacking faults (SISF). The other type was the strain-induced directly twin martensite at a certain equivalent strain. However, for the uniax- ial tension state, only the strain-induced twin martensite was observed. Dislocation lines and dislocation tangles were also observed in specimens deformed at different strain states. In addition, complex micro- structures of stacking faults and lath-like phases were observed within a grain at the plane strain state. 展开更多

The application of BLDC motor drives in industries is becoming more popular nowadays. An error will occur in the drive that is originated by some disturbances which are the major problems to reduce the stability of the system. To obtain the minimum performance index, the optimal control signal is formulated, which is the main objective of this paper. Based on quadratic performance index, the optimal control system of BLDC motor drive is a design which spotlights in this paper. The complexity of the mathematical expressions has been reduced by using state space approach to the BLDC system. The burden to the control engineers has reduced based on tedious computation by using thus optimal design. To provide the desired operating performance, this optimal design helps to realize the BLDC system with practical components. 展开更多

In this paper, the positive steady states of the epidemic model with non-monotonic incidence rate are considered. Firstly, it is proved that the unique positive constant steady state is stable for the ODE system and the PDE system. Secondly, a priori estimate of positive steady states is given, and the non-existence of non-constant positive steady states is established by using Poincare inequality and Young inequality. Finally, the existence and bifurcation of non-constant positive steady states are studied by using the degree theory and the global bifurcation theorem. 展开更多

A thermoelectric generation Stirling engine (TEG-Stirling engine) is discussed by employing a low temperature Stirling engine and the dissipative equation of motion derived from the method of thermomechanical dynamics (TMD). The results and mechanism of axial flux electromagnetic induction (AF-EMI) are applied to a low temperature Stirling engine, resulting in a TEG-Stirling engine. The method of TMD produced thermodynamically consistent and time-dependent physical quantities for the first time, such as internal energy ℰ(t), thermodynamic work Wth(t), the total entropy (heat dissipation) Qd(t)and measure or temperature of a nonequilibrium state T˜(t). The TMD analysis produced a lightweight mechanical system of TEG-Stirling engine which derives electric power from waste heat of temperature (40˚CT100˚C) by a thermoelectric conversion method. An optimal low rotational speed about 30θ′(t)/(2π)60(rpm) is found, applicable to devices for sustainable, clean energy technologies. The stability of a thermal state and angular rotations of TEG-Stirling engine are specifically shown by employing properties of nonequilibrium temperature T˜(t), which is also applied to study optimal fuel-injection and combustion timings of heat engines. 展开更多
