From 2010 to 2012, the China Geological Survey Center for Hydrogeology and Environmental Geology Survey (CHEGS) carried out the project "Potential evaluation and demonstration project of CO2 Geological Storage in C... From 2010 to 2012, the China Geological Survey Center for Hydrogeology and Environmental Geology Survey (CHEGS) carried out the project "Potential evaluation and demonstration project of CO2 Geological Storage in China". During this project, we developed an evaluation index system and technical methods for the potential and suitability of CO2 geological storage based on China's geological conditions, and evaluated the potential and suitability of the primary basins for COz geological storage, in order to draw a series of regional scale maps (at a scale of 1:5000000) and develop an atlas of the main sedimentary basins in China. By using these tools, we delineated many potential targets for CO2 storage. We also built techniques and methods for site selection and the exploration and assessment of CO2 geological storage in deep saline aquifers. Furthermore, through cooperation with the China Shenhua Coal to Liquid and Chemical Co., Ltd., we successfully constructed the first coal-based demonstration project for CO2 geological storage in deep saline aquifers in the Yijinhuoluo Banner of Ordos in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, which brought about the basic preliminary theories, techniques, and methods of geological CO2 storage in deep saline aquifers under China's geological conditions. 展开更多

Furthermore, this paper partitions the suitability of the research area according to evaluation results into five zones. In the background of a new round reform and western development strategy, making suitability evaluation of construction land complex topography area in southwest China scientifically and accurately has an important guiding significance on the construction of local urban and rural development. We selected economic factor of construction, safety factor of construction, factor of the present situation of land use and ecological protection factor in Tongzi county as evaluation indexes, and ascertained the weight of each elastic indicator using the analytic hierarchy process method. By the support of GIS and RS technology, we combined the single-factor qualitative classification with the multi-factor weighted overlay analysis to make comprehensive suitability evaluation of construction land on the whole study area. And five different types of construction land were divided, namely, ‘excellent', ‘very good', ‘good', ‘moderate' and ‘poor'. The result shows that the area of ‘excellent' construction land is 30.47 km^2(0.95%), 101.46 km^2(3.16%) of ‘very good', 550.34 km^2(17.16%) of ‘good', and 664.69 km^2(20.72%) and 1 860.65 km^2(58.01%) of ‘moderate' and ‘poor', respectively. The land space bearing capacity is a population of 791 600, and the remaining population capacity is 170 900 persons. 展开更多

Since there are multiple influencing factors and lack of evaluation standards for the construction of hydrogen production and hydrogenation station in China,this paper establishes the suitability evaluation index system of hydrogen production and hydrogenation station from four aspects of technology,economy,environment and safety.Combined with actual conditions,this paper uses Analytic Hierarch Process(AHP)and Fuzzy Comprehensive eval-uation to evaluate water electrolysis hydrogen and hydrogenation production station and natural gas reformation hydrogen production and hydrogenation station.The results show that hydrogen producing by water electrolysis is more efficient than natural gas reformation in hydrogen production and hydrogenation station,and it should be choose firstly.Furthermore,natural gas reformation hydrogen producing is inferior in technology,environment and safety,but it is superior to water electrolysis hydrogen producing in economy.In the future,we can strengthen development of the hydrogen production from renewable energy sources,so as to enhance the economic benefit of that by water electrolysis.In addition,we can also adopt two ways of hydrogen production in hydrogen production and hydrogenation station to achieve favorable integrative benefits. 展开更多

Site selection for location of a hospital is one of the crucial policy-related decisions taken by the government. In upper Egypt, the cities suffer from a shortage and bad distribution of hospital site. The selection of the appropriate hospital site requires consideration of multiple alternative solutions and evaluation factor. We develop a Multi-Criteria Decision Support System (MCDSS) process that combines Geographical Information System (GIS) analysis with Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and use this process to determine the optimum site for a new hospital in the Aswan urban area. Based on actual conditions Aswan city, we used three main factors and seven sub-factors. The main factors are urban, environmental and economic factors. An application adopting AHP process was developed to calculate weights of every factor. Spatial analysis in GIS was used to overlay and generate factors maps and suitability evaluation map. All maps are classified from 1 (low suitable) to 5 (high suitable) using spatial information technologies. The candidate sites are divided by best, good and unsuitable hospital areas. Best hospital site represents optimal sites;good hospital site can be used as back-up candidate sites. The study was found that best area (S3) is about 30%, and most of these are located in the south part of the study area;good area (S2) is about 58%, and most of these are located in the central part of the study area;unsuitable area (S1) is about 12%, and most of these are located in the Eastern and Western parts of the study area. Finally, the study ends with an assessment of proposed sites. 展开更多

[Methed] Firstly, the suitability of construction land in the center of Datong City was assessed; afterwards, according to the urban scale and spatial expansion mode in target years in the General Land Use Planning for Datong City (2006 -2020), the spatial layout of new- ly-increased urban land and flexible construction land was carried out to determine the development boundary of Datong City in 2020. [ Result] In the evaluation area of Datong City, the most suitable construction land had an area of only 66.18 hm2, accounting for 10.40% of total area of evalu- ation region; the area of more suitable construction land was 117.51 hm2 and make up 18.47% of total area; moderately suitable land covered an area of 149.49 hm2, which took up 23.49% of total area; the area of unsuitable construction land (89.31 hm2 ) only made up 14.04% of total area. In the newly-increased urban construction land, the area of the most suitable and more suitable land accounted for 73.58%, while there was no un- suitable land. Meanwhile, in flexible construction land, the area of the most suitable and more suitable land made up 66.85%. In a word, the spa- tial layout of urban land was reasonable in Datong City. Urban development continues to reduce the amount of available ground space.The development of underground space is thus gath-ering increasing attention to alleviate ground congestion.However,there is currently a lack of a three-dimensional(3D)evaluation method to systematically evaluate the geological conditions of underground space and possible geological disaster risks caused by rock and soil masses.This paper presents an engineering geological suitability assessment framework based on 3D geological modeling and an analytic hierarchy process(AHP)-cloud model.As the basis for 3D evaluation,a 3D structural model of the study area is established based on the drilling data and geological profiles.Then the structural model is partitioned to obtain interpolation grids,and the ordinary Kriging interpolation method is applied to attribute interpolation.All the attributes are exported from the geological model,and the rock and soil masses are divided into four categories according to their engineering properties,namely soft soil,sandy soil,cohesive soil,and rock,upon which a targeted hierarchy structure is established based on the attributes that impact the suitability.This paper intro-duces the cloud model to characterize the uncertainty of these evaluation indexes,which synthesizes an AHP method,thus it is referred to as the AHP-cloud model.This new model is used to evaluate the geological suitability of underground space in the Sanlong Bay district,Foshan City,Guangdong,China.In addition,we also determine the excavation difficulty at different depths according to the lithology and weathering degree of the study area.The limitations and future directions of the proposed method are discussed,including the influ-encing factors and weight determination. 展开更多

The suitability evaluation of population and settlements spatial layout in the mountainous areas is an important basis on which the scale of population and settlement after Wenchuan Earthquake is determined. Based on the statistical data of field research, this paper chooses 1264 towns in 51 counties as the scope of evaluation, selects eight indices in the evaluation index system which includes post-disaster population scale, population density, urbanization rate, the percentage of migrant workers, death rate by earthquake, the percentage of minorities, elevation-slope integrated terrain and comprehensive geological condition. Besides, this paper uses AHP supported by entropy technique and fuzzy membership function model to calculate the suitability evaluation index and then divides the disaster areas into five types: highly suitable area (area accounted for 11.03%), relatively highly suitable area (15.29%), moderately suitable area (29%), less suitable area (30.08%) and unsuitable area (14.6%). According to the result of suitability evaluation, this paper puts forward several suggestions for the reconstruction as follows: the urban system and the building of new countryside should be guided by the suitability evaluation subareas; post-earthquake reconstruction avoids zones near Longmenshan fracture and high-mountain gorge areas as far as possible; the scale of population and settlement should not exceed the capacity of resources and environment; population should be resettled as close as possible by considering adequately the heterogenicity and homogeneity of regional nationality culture characteristics; densely resettle the people at plains and hilly areas; encourage the migrant workers settle in the working place with their families voluntarily; and urban system reconstruction such as industry layout and important projects of lifeline should be guided by the spatial layout suitability evaluation. 展开更多

A rational utilization of land is a matter of importance in sustainable development of mountainous area.The land function in mountainous areas has a close connection with space structure of ecology,production and living.To promote a harmonious development of the relationship between people and nature in mountainous areas,it is necessary to coordinate their relationships of space functions.Suitability evaluation of basic unit function associated with multi-scale space analysis is a prerequisite to a reasonable optimization of land function structure.In this study,an optimized evaluation index system of combination functions was introduced into the assessment of ecological spatial functional suitability in ecological fragile regions by adding three indicators,namely,soil erosion sensitivity,landscape ecological risk and ecological sensitivity.The principle of"taking high"(referred to a function with high suitability to be regarded as the main function of an evaluation unit)and ecological priority(referred to the case,supposing the suitability of a unit’s three functions is consistent,the main function is determined to be the ecological function)were used to determine the main function of an evaluation unit.Pingshan County,China,located at the eastern foot of the Taihang Mountain,was targeted in this case study.The production-livingecology space(PLES)function in Pingshan was identified by applying our improved valuation indexes.Further,the functional suitability distribution of the combination of elements was obtained by using overlapping comprehensive analysis method,considering the tradeoff of the functional suitability of combination elements.The regions suitable for production/living were distributed in relatively flat piedmont plains,whereas the regions suitable for ecology were distributed in the mountain areas of middle and low altitudes.Therefore,to maintain a sustainable development in mountainous areas,an improved scheme of development for Pingshan should be to delineate ecologically fragile areas,to build ecological industrial parks near existing scenic spots,to protect basic agricultural production areas,and to increase investment in science and technology,including reasonable ecological compensation.This study can provide reference for the planning of sustainable development in the Taihang Mountain area and similar regions. 展开更多

The suitability evaluation model of the remediation technology of polluted farmland has been constructed by analytic hierarchy process.The evaluation index of remediation technology has been constructed based on the physical and chemical index of farmland,farming system and the characteristic of remediation technology.In addition,the potential risk factors such as the distance of the industrial and mining enterprises,and the economy factors such as repair cost and local economy level have all been considered to construct the suitability evaluation system of the remediation technology of polluted farmland.Shilou town in Beijing was selected for the testing site,with the pollution of cadmium,arsenic and organic matter pollution.Chemical passivation,phytoremediation and biological compost technology were used for restoring the polluted farmland.According to the suitability evaluation model,the phytoremediation technology is suitable for general pollution.And chemical passivation and biological compost technology are more suitable to restore the polluted farmland.The combined remediation technologies of chemical passivation and phytoremediation are more suitable.It can avoid the limit of the one technology,complement the defect for each other and receive more remediation effects. 展开更多

Landscape connectivity is a parameter of landscape function, which measures the processes by which the sub populations of organisms are interconnected into a functional demographic unit. It is a landscape phenomenon which describes the relationships between landscape subunits. Landscape connectivity can be measured by measuring the degree to which the landscape pattern facilitates or impedes movement of animals among resource patches, particularly for conserved animal species. In this paper, the landscape connectivity for Giant Panda in Wolong Nature Reserve was evaluated by using landscape ecological model on the base of choosing three natural affecting factors on Giant Panda and using geographic information system. The results demonstrate that only about 90 36 km 2 (c.a.4 47%) of total area 2023 31 km 2 is most suitable for Giant Panda survival, the suitable area is about 226 42 km 2 (11 19%), the moderately suitable area is 286 09 km 2 (14 13%), as much as 1236 51 km 2 is completely unsuitable for Giant Panda living. The result will be helpful for making a decision on improving eco environment and protecting Giant Panda in Wolong Nature Reserve. 展开更多

This work established an evaluation index system based on a comprehensive analysis of those factors affecting the suitability of CO2 geological storage.This evaluation index system includes three evaluation index layers of geological safety,storage scale and social economy,nine evaluation index sub-layers,and 28 evaluation index factors,and adopts the analytic hierarchy process(AHP)and index overlay methods.Taking the Xining Basin in northwest China as an example,we conducted comprehensive analysis of geological conditions and performed quantitative evaluation based on this evaluation index system,which indicates that the Shuangshu depression of the Xining Basin is comparatively suitable for CO2 geological storage.It is suggested that this evaluation index system and the evaluation method proposed in this study are suitable for most continental sedimentary basins in China and should be widely applied. 展开更多

As an important and typical arid inland region in China,Shiyang River Basin plays an important role in maintaining the sustainable development of eco-environment,whose ecological land suitability restricts the development of the local human activities.Therefore,Shiyang River Basin was selected as the case study,the minimum cumulative resistance(MCR)model and GIS technique were integrated to create land suitability evaluation map.We calculated the MCR value of ecological source and living source,and divided the whole basin into five partitions according to the difference between ecological source and living source,and analyzed the patterns and characteristics of the ecological land suitability evaluation(ELSE)regions,respectively.The results showed that:1)The suitable ecological land includes prohibited development region and restricted development region,which accounts for 15.45%and 23.35%of the total land area of the Shiyang River Basin,respectively.These two regions mainly distributed high altitude region in the southern Qilian Mountain and low altitude region where had high density of rivers.2)The protection of ecological land requires not only conserving existing ecological land but also focusing on ecological buffer belts around ecological sources and improving ecological land service ability.3)Ecological networks should be constructed through artificial planting trees around the boundary of oasis and ecological restoration region.Buffer greenbelts should also be established between optimized development region and ecological restoration region. 展开更多

In China,mountain destinations offer more opportunities for vacation than beaches and springs,with a larger national coverage,richer landscapes and various diverse folk cultures.Hunan Province,for example,serves as a typical mountain tourism destination.Our research aims to assess the potential suitability and component pattern of holidaymaking in Hunan Province to support for scientific endeavors and sustainable use of mountain resources in Hunan.An approach for mapping potential suitability was constructed based on Weighted Linear Combination(WLC)of six primary factors including terrain,climate suitability period,biology and environment,human activity culture,hydrological landscape,and road infrastructure,which is calculated on the base of eleven secondary factors used as suitability criteria.Analytic hierarchy process(AHP)and geographic information system(GIS)were also integrated into the evaluation models to prepare six single and complex factor suitability maps for mountain vacation.Multivariate clustering was used to clarify the component pattern of single factor combinations in each mountain vacation suitability index(MVSI)class.The results have shown that:1)Regions with high suitability are distributed with characteristics of significant dispersion and limited aggregation;2)15.89%of the sample mountains are highly suitable,30.78%are moderately suitable,42.61%are marginally suitable and 10.72%are poorly suitable;3)The complexity of index combination corresponding to each level is different;4)Different combinations emphasize different destination needs.The study reveals the suitability class,characteristics,and limiting factors of mountain vacation in different geographical locations on the provincial scale.These elements play an instructive role in scientific decision-making and orderly exploitation of resources among Hunan’s Mountain destinations.Furthermore,the study can also be used as a basis for the suitability evaluation of mountain vacation in other areas. 展开更多

To discover the characteristics,distribution and potential of shallow geothermal energy in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Plain area.This paper,based on a large amount of data collection and field investigations,evaluateed the shallow-layer geothermal energy in the study area through the analytic hierarchy process and comprehensive index method.Based on suitability zoning results superimposed with 1:100000 land use data,the study area is divided into encouraged,controlled,restricted and prospective mining areas regarding the development of shallow geothermal energy,and the economic availability of shallow geothermal energy in the encouraged and controlled areas are evaluated.The results show that the shallow geothermal energy in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Plain can meet the heating and cooling demand of 6×10^(8) m2 of buildings,equivalent to 1.15×10^(7) t of standard coal,thus reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 2.73×10^(7) t and reducing sulfur dioxide emissions by 1.95×10^(5) t.According to the development and utilization mode,the energy demand level and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development plan,the development and utilization of geothermal resources in the plain area has two types:Urban concentrated mining areas and rural scattered mining areas.The scale and level of intensive utilization of regional geothermal resources are of great significance. 展开更多

Research on Greenway Route Selection of Traditional Villages Based on GIS: A Case Study of Xingtai County, China

Greenway is a green linear corridor connecting scenic spots, residential areas, nature reserves, road traffic, etc. Rational greenway route selection can not only attract tourists to increase the income of local villages, but also arouse people’s awareness of the protection of traditional villages. This paper took Xingtai County, Hebei Province, China as an example to practice greenway route selection in the county territory. Eight factors were selected for greenway route planning, namely elevation, water body, mountain, ecological protection redline, cultural relics protection units, population density, road traffic network, and important transportation hub. These eight factors were assigned in the GIS platform, and the suitability evaluation system of each factor was constructed. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and entropy weight method were combined to calculate the weight of these eight factors. The raster calculator was used to weight and overlay the suitability evaluation system of each factor, and the comprehensive suitability evaluation map of greenway route selection was obtained. Based on an important transport hub, along with the water body and the road traffic, the final selection greenway route of traditional villages in Xingtai county was formed. The results of the research can provide a certain reference for the greenway route selection at the county scale. 展开更多

Exploitation and utilization of urban underground space resources is gaining increasing attention in cities’sustainable development.Due to the attributes of fragility and irreversibility,urban underground space resources can be extremely vulnerable to damage and it is often difficult in restoring their original state once damaged.Therefore,scientific and reasonable evaluation of urban underground space resources is of vital importance in urban planning and development.This paper first describes the content and methods for the evaluation of urban underground space resources,and introduces the digitalization technologies to handle the problems of strong subjectivity,low efficiency and rough precision encountered when using traditional evaluation tools.Then,the related concepts and main technologies for digitalization were demonstrated and an intelligent GIS-based engineering geology system was built.Based on the drilling information in Changzhou City,stratum standardization and 3D modeling of strata,underground structures and pipelines were conducted in the built intelligent system.Finally,with the help of spatial overlay analysis in the GIS-based platform and a combination of other digitalization technologies,the urban underground space resources of Changzhou City were evaluated.Maps of geological suitability were produced,which provide scientific guidance and reference for the exploitation and planning of urban underground space resources in Changzhou City.In addition,site selection for key projects was conducted based on the evaluation results using this platform. 展开更多
