This research is concentrated on the longitudinal vibration of a tapered pipe pile considering the vertical support of the surrounding soil and construction disturbance.First, the pile-soil system is partitioned into finite segments in the vertical direction and the Voigt model is applied to simulate the vertical support of the surrounding soil acting on the pile segment. The surrounding soil is divided into finite ring-shaped zones in the radial direction to consider the construction disturbance. Then, the shear complex stiffness at the pile-soil interface is derived by solving the dynamic equilibrium equation for the soil from the outermost to innermost zone. The displacement impedance at the top of an arbitrary pile segment is obtained by solving the dynamic equilibrium equation for the pile and is combined with the vertical support of the surrounding soil to derive the displacement impedance at the bottom of the upper adjacent segment.Further, the displacement impedance at the pile head is obtained based on the impedance function transfer technique. Finally, the reliability of the proposed solution is verified, followed by a sensitivity analysis concerning the coupling effect of the pile parameters, construction disturbance and the vertical support of the surrounding soil on the displacement impedance of the pile. 展开更多

A numerical simulation method of shield tunnel excavation is developed to capture the time-dependent deformation behaviour of surrounding soil. The simulation method consists of four parts:(i) an elastic-plastic-viscous constitutive model that can not only reasonably describe the viscous deformation behaviour of soil, but also appropriately calculate the plastic deformation under typical stress paths of excavation;(ii) simulation of main factors related to shield tunnel excavation, including the shield machine, face pressure, lining, grout behavior, and contacts between multiple media;(iii) a simulation procedure for excavation to reflect the process of shield tunnel excavation and achieve reasonable stress and strain fields at the end of the construction stage;(iv) a creep process that is used to investigate the long-term mechanical behaviours of the surrounding soil and tunnel lining. Taking the CK570H tunnel project in Taipei as the background, a numerical simulation is conducted by adopting the developed simulation method. Based on the simulation results, the radial and circumferential stresses acting on the lining, which are induced by the surrounding soil viscosity, are analysed. The rule of the mechanical response of lining, including its deformation, bending moment, and axial force, with time is revealed. On this basis, the long-term safety of the lining is evaluated. 展开更多

The objective of this work is to obtain the seismic safety coefficient and fracture surface and proceed with the seismic safety evaluation for the rock mass or soil mass surrounding a tunnel, and the limitation of evaluating seismic stability is considered using the pseudo-static strength reduction.By using the finite element software ANSYS and the strength reduction method, new methods of seismic safety evaluation for the rock mass or soil mass surrounding a tunnel are put forward, such as the dynamic finite element static shear strength reduction method and dynamic finite element shear strength reduction method. In order to prove the feasibility of the proposed methods, the results of numerical examples are compared with that of the pseudo-static strength reduction method. The results show that 1) the two methods are both feasible, and the plastic zone first appears near the bottom corners; 2) the safety factor of new method Ⅱ is smaller than that of new method I but generally, and the difference is very small. Therefore,in order to ensure the safety of the structure, two new methods are proposed to evaluate the seismic stability of the rock mass or soil mass surrounding a tunnel.A theoretical basis is provided for the seismic stability of the rock mass or soil mass and the lining surrounding a tunnel and also provided for the engineering application. 展开更多

When a tunnel is excavated below the groundwater table, groundwater flows in through the excavated wall of the tunnel and seepage forces act on it.These forces significantly affect the ground reaction curve, which is defined as the relationship between the internal pressure and radial displacement of the tunnel wall. This study investigates analytical solutions for seepage forces acting on the lining of a circular tunnel under steady-state groundwater flow.Considering the tunnel’s construction or service period and boundary conditions, the direction of maximum principal stress changes, and the input stress of the Mohr-Coulomb criterion varies. The stress distribution and yield range of the surrounding soils and linings are studied. The first, second, and third critical inner pressures are defined and evaluated. The influence of the seepage field on the plastic radius, first critical pressure, and stress distribution of the tunnel is analyzed. It is shown that during the construction period, the seepage force promotes the expansion of the yield area, whereas during the service period, the opposite is the case. The first critical pressure increases nearly linearly with the distant water pressure. The radial stress distribution decreases clearly in comparison with that when the seepage force is not considered, and the reduction is more prominent when internal pressure increases. The tangential stress distribution increases clearly compared with that when the seepage force is not considered. 展开更多
