English-Chinese Translation of Science and Technology Texts Based on the Differences Between Chinese and Western Modes of Thinking

As a tool for human communication,the use of language is affected by the way of thinking in cross-cultural communication.Due to the differences between Chinese and Western cultures,the way of thinking varies under the influence of such cultural differences.In the process of translation,the influence of the different thinking mode on translation activities cannot be ignored.At present,a lot of studies and researches have focused on the influence of Chinese and Western thinking mode on translation.However,it is still worthwhile to study what specific influence the difference between Chinese and Western thinking mode will exert on the translation process of science texts and what kind of measure should be taken to solve the negative influence brought by the differences when we are translating.This paper aims to discuss the influence of thinking differences between Chinese and Western countries on the process of English-Chinese translation of science and technology from the perspectives of long sentences,passive voice and nominalization,and how the translators should appropriately adjust their thinking pattern and use reasonable skills to eliminate the potential negative interference caused by the difference and achieve a better transformation between English and Chinese.

English Multimedia Teaching Development Status and Countermeasures

Classroom instruction is mainly the form of implementation of quality education in schools, the main venue of the teachers and students bilateral activities. The students in school spent most of their time in the classroom teaching. Therefore, it is the main front of the school education and students healthy growth. In this case, students can gain self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-belief, the courage to cynically express them and to express their unique insight. Therefore, a harmonious classroom teaching can benefit for students.

An Analysis of Polysemy in English for Science and Technology Translation

The monosemy term is one of the important features of English for Science and Technology(EST),but in the process of usage,the monosemy will often be changed gradually,and polysemy is an important factor that influences the term’s monosemy.This paper analyzes the internal and external causes of polysemy in EST translation from the perspective of translation practice,and further elaborates on polysemy with specific translation examples.Finally,some preliminary suggestions for the preferred correct meaning are put forward.

MET as Program Resources for College English Teaching and Learning：Application and Implications

This paper investigates the current situation of Modern Educational Technology （MET） as program resources for college English teaching, exploring the effectiveness of the integration of MET and language teaching and learning. The case study in this paper illustrates that MET does benefit college English teaching but there are many problems of its application. Pedagogical implications are then provided to enhance the effective integration of MET and language teaching and learning： （1） it is wise for the teachers and learners to reconcile what is desirable with what is acceptable and possible in MET application; （2） teachers should optimize other existing resources to solve the problems caused by inequality and unavailability of MET; （3） teachers should have a clear conception of the relationship of MET and pedagogy to design and apply courseware appropriately; （4） students have beliefs in the benefits of MET, resulting in enhancing their individual language learning and efficiency.

An Analysis into the Present Situation of ESP Research in Anhui Institutions of Higher Learning(2001—2014)

The teaching of College English in institutions of higher learning in China is in a period of great transformation in which English for Specific Purposes( ESP) is replacing of English for General Purposes( EGP). This paper aims to analyze the present situation,hot topics and features in particular,of the researches in the field of ESP done by researchers in Anhui institutions of higher learning during the period from 2001 to 2014,by means of documentation. Firstly,the w riter review s the origin of English for Specific Purposes and its development within C hina,and then examines the major reasons for the transformation. Next,on the basis of analysis into the collected papers,the author points out that,as far as research method is concerned,we are being more empirical and more quantitative than speculative and qualitative; with regard to research contents,we are focusing on both theoretical and applicative studies and both macro and micro research,which is the research tendencies in Anhui.Lastly,the writer suggests that Anhui institutions of higher learning should set up their ow n research organization in order to form regional research dominance.
