Objectives Phenotypic switching of smooth muscle cells(SMCs) plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerotic lesions such as coronary artery disease (CAD).Accumulating evidence demonstrates(hat a cellular repressor of E1A-stimulated genes(CREG) plays a role in the maintenance of the mature phenotype of vascular SMCs. The purpose of the present study was to assess the possible association between CREG and CAD in the Han population of North China. Methods The promoter region of CREG by direct sequencing was conducted in 48 subjects. Then SNP rs2995073 and another 4 tagSNPs(rs4657669,rs3767443, rsl6859185,rs3753921) were selected for the association study. All five selected SNPs were determined in 1161 patients with angiographically proven CAD and 960 controls with normal coronary angiograms to investigate the possible involvement of CREG in CAD.Results Genotype frequencies of the five examined polymorphisms were similarly distributed between CAD group and controls(P】0.05).Further haplotype analysis also found no significant differences in the distributions between CAD group and controls(P】0.05). Conclusions This study did not show an association between common variants of CREG and CAD in the northern Chinese Han population. 展开更多

Under the guidance of the “the Belt and Road” policy, the academic community continues to study the historical relics of the western regions and military facilities along the silk road in recent years. Focusing on the military defense buildings in the western regions of the Han and Tang Dynasties, CiteSpace software is used to conduct statistical and visual analysis on the hot issues of relevant literature in the military buildings on the silk road. Based on the analysis of frontier hot issues, the research trend of future topics is analyzed and predicted. The research shows that the frontier hot spots of military architecture in the western regions of Han and Tang Dynasties are extensive, and the research trend is steadily rising. 展开更多

As the most primitive and the highest-level media in ancient Chinese society, Gaomei God played a pivotal role in the social life of the Han Dynasty. The stone relief is a vivid portrayal of the Han Dynasty society, and we can use the format routine method to fred out the image of Gaomei God in it. Starting from the Gaomei portrait, a research on typology is carried out before the portrait is divided into three types on the basis of its development and evolution, which is followed by a comprehensive analysis of its time, distribution area, configuration combination, carving techniques, image composition, development in a way to sum up the law of Gaomei portrait. 展开更多

The emergence of competitive sports in ancient China is closely related to military activities. With the evolution and development of society, many sporting events have been introduced to and accepted by,the people and later carried forward from generation to generation. In the Han Dynasty, thanks to the strong national strength and booming economy, competitive sports witnessed rapid development.People at that time, from imperial officials to common people, were all keen on various competitive sports and such sports were also very popular among the folk.Along with this, there emerged multiple monographs on sports.Portrait bricks are the remnants of the lavish burial rituals of the Han Dynasty. As the economy grew and social wealth amassed, the lavish burial custom prevailing since the Spring and Autumn Period reached its peak in the Han Dynasty, especially in the Eastern Han Dynasty.People would bury in tombs along with various articles they used before they died. They would also paint the life of the tomb owner on bricks to decorate the tomb by embedding them in the tomb chamber. The images on the portrait bricks unearthed from the tombs of the Han Dynasty are the most intuitive and convincing physical evidence to reflect the development of competitive sports at that time.We conduct a preliminary study on competitive sports in the Han Dynasty by using the portrait bricks of the Han Dynasty unearthed in Sichuan province and the Yellow River basin as examples, aiming to do our bit to build a sporting powerhouse and a healthy China. 展开更多

Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is one of the most common tumors of the thyroid gland. The common risk factors of PTC include ionizing radiation, positive family history, and thyroid nodular disease. PTC was identified in Europeans by conducting a genome-wide association study, and a strong association signal with PTC was observed in rs944289 and NKX2-1 (located at the 14q13.3 locus), which was probably the genetic risk factor of PTC. This study aimed to examine the association of this gene with PTC in Chinese. A total of 354 patients with PTC and 360 healthy control subjects from the Han population of Northern China were recruited in the study. These individuals were genotyped to determine rs12589672, rs12894724, rs2076751, and rs944289. The association of rs944289 with PTC was obtained (C vs. T, P= 0.027, OR= 1.264, 95% CI = 1.026-1.557; and C/C-C/T vs. T/T, P= 0.034, OR= 1.474, 95% CI = 1.028-2.112). Conducting a subgroup analysis, we found a marginal difference in the allele frequency distribution of rs944289 (adjusted P = 0.062) between the patients with PTC and multi-nodular goiter and the control subjects. We also observed an interaction (P= 0.029; OR = 2.578, 95% CI=1.104-6.023) between rs944289 and diabetes in patients with PTC. In conclusion, rs944289 was associated with an increased risk of PTC in the Han population of Northern China, but no clear association was observed in either of the tag single nucleotide polymorphisms of NKX2-1. 展开更多

Objective To investigate the association of ghrelin gene polymorphisms with metabolic syndrome in Han Nationality Chinese. Methods A total of 240 patients with metabolic syndrome and 427 adults aged above forty years were recruited. Genotypes were determined by polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis. Results The allelic frequency of the Leu72Met polymorphism was 17.3% in the patient group and 11.9% in the control group (x^2=7.36, P=0.007). Metabolic syndrome was more prevalent among carriers of the Met72 variant (43.8 vs 33.1%, age- and sex-adjusted odds ratio=1.57, P=0.01). No Arg51Gln variants were found in our study subjects. Conclusion Rather than being associated with its individual components, Leu72Met polymorphism is associated with metabolic syndrome in the Han Nationality Chinese. Arg51Gln polymorphism is rare in the Han Nationality Chinese. 展开更多

A crucial issue in comprehending the commonality of"Community for the Chinese Nation"is finding an appropriate way to understand the relationship between the Han ethnic group and ethnic minorities. This article explores the formation, development, nature, and characteristics of the Han ethnic group,as well as its inherent connections with ethnic minorities in China from both historical and contemporary perspectives. It posits that the Han ethnic group and ethnic minorities in China are intertwined and interdependent, with elements of both groups mutually present in each other. There is no clear boundary between the two,and their relationship is close, both historically and in reality. The Han ethnic group is a unity resulting from the integration of diverse ethnicities, and its composition and tremendous inclusiveness make it the cohesive core of the Chinese nation.Han ethnic group and ethnic minorities, due to their difference in geographical environments, have different economic types;however, their differences in economic types and the resulting economic complementation between the two have become the very reason for the high dependence and close connection between Han and ethnic minorities, which also demonstrate the commonality of"community for the Chinese nation".The Chinese nation has gradually become an organic whole with commonality and diversity through the mutual absorption, integration, and interdependence between the Han ethnic group and ethnic minorities in the long historical process. Therefore,it is necessary to shift away from the mindset of separating or opposing the Han ethnic group and ethnic minorities. 展开更多
