The Comparative Study on Chinese Tone and English Intonation

Aiming at difficulties for Chinese students to learn English,based on phonology theory,this article compares the Chinese tone with English intonation from various aspects,the finding is that the two language families have a great difference in intonation;intonation is put to use without high proficiency for students due to the influence of Chinese tone and its simplified pedagogy.

On the Tone of Finality in Famous Successful Speeches

The public speech skill consists of cultural virtue,knowledge accumulation,psychological quality,logical thinking,thinking capacity and language expression.It is a kind of art that speakers achieve the success through their own sound.In dealing with various English speeches,Chinese students are always influenced by the Chinese way of speech delivery,adopting the style of it,especially its tone of finality.After collecting,arranging and learning relevant material,I attaches great importance to the tone of finality in famous English speeches.They show some rules and regulations,such as the return to the middle pitch,the unstable change of stress and the final rising and falling tone.This paper begins with a brief introduction to what the tone of finality is and three famous English speeches in different areas are provided as study cases with the PRAAT pictures and their relevant analysis.And then the comparison will be made among these three speeches from aspects of pitch,length and weight,in the hope of concluding similarities in the tone of finality of these three cases.

Improve English Speaking Skills for Vietnamese Students Through Teaching Tones and Their Communicative Values:A Case Study at Thu Dau Mot University

For those who are going to work with English at an advanced level as English-majored students,teachers or researchers,a deeper understanding about intonation is very important.At this level,intonation deals with more complicated features such as prominence,key,termination,tone,pitch sequence,and orientation in interactions.As a matter of fact,knowledge of these aspects is of crucial importance for advanced learners of English:It can help language users gain more confidence and proficiency in speaking the target language as well as in arriving at a complete understanding of English interactions.Based on the qualitative and quantitative data,the survey reveals the effect of teaching tones on developing speaking skills for advanced students of the language.Regarding the practical applications,this study serves to build up students’awareness and provide useful practice of the knowledge of tones they have to deal with in speech,thus outlining ways to improve speaking skills for students in Vietnamese contexts.

To Evaluate the Correlation between Preoperative Otoscopic Features, Pure Tone Audiometric Findings and Intraoperative Ossicular Chain Status in Patients with Chronic Otitis Media

Aim: Chronic otitis media (COM) is chronic muco purulent discharge through a perforated tympanic membrane. Theossicular chain damage is found in both mucosal and squamosal types of COM. We aim to evaluate relationship between preoperative otologic features, pure tone audiometric findings and intraoperative ossicular chain status in patients with chronic otitis media. Material and Methods: 100 patients of either sex aged between 12 to 60 years operated for active or inactive, squamosal or mucosal chronic otitis media attending Ram Lal Eye and ENT Hospital, Government Medical College Amritsar were taken. The preoperative ossicular chain status based on set parameters was compared with the intraoperative ossicular chain status. Results: The ossicular chain integrity is more commonly compromised in squamosal COM and the most common ossicle eroded is Incus. Pure tone audiogram has got a very important role in determining the ossicular chain integrity preoperatively and must be done in all cases with accuracy. Conclusion: It is concluded that on the basis of otoscopic examination and pure tone audiometry values, we can accurately classify the COM as mucosal or squamosal type and get an idea of the ossicular chain integrity preoperatively hence planning the extent of surgery.

Change in the Muscle Tension of the Shoulder Girdle Muscles in Patients with Spinal Pain, Using the Tone Control® Technique

The aim of the study was to verify the efficacy of the Tone-Control method in inducing a reduction in the tension of the muscles of the shoulder girdle,and therefore a normalisation of posture in the segment.The authors analysed the change in posture,which was related to the muscle tension of the pectoralis major muscle and the trapezius muscle,resulting from the administration of a programme of encoded exercises known as the Tone Control method.The study was conducted on 70 patients with postural back pain,aged between 25 and 81 years and with a mean age of 61.9 years,11 male patients and 59 female patients,who attended group rehabilitation for a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 15 sessions.Acute phase patients,patients on anti-inflammatory pharmacological treatment and patients with hernias or bulging causing thecal sac impingement were excluded from the study.Measurements were taken of the angles of the joints in the scapulohumeral segment during the first and last sessions.The NRS(numeric rating scale)pain scale was administered at the start and end of the cycle of sessions.Conclusions:Patients in the study group experienced improvements in the angle measurements that were proportionally greater than those of the control group,together with a considerable reduction in perceived pain,with an overall improvement in posture and shoulder girdle function.

An Optimality Theoretic Analysis of the Mid Tone in IsÊeÊkírì

The asymmetric behaviour of the mid tone has been reported in the Yoruboid literature and previous accounts of tone behaviour in Iṣẹkírìsuggest that a low tone is always deleted in favour of others at word boundary.However,synchronic data have shown that this is not the case.This paper investigates tonal asymmetry and the non-participation of the mid tone in some phonological processes in Iṣẹkírì.The study adopts an Optimality Theory(OT)version that incorporates the grounding conditions to develop constraints of implicational statements into faithfulness constraints.Data are elicited from eight speakers of the language,recordings are with the aid of a digital audio device and the tool used for our acoustic measurement is Praat 6.0.30.The analysis reveals that tonal asymmetry in this language always deletes the Mid-tone at word boundary and not the Low tone,also noting that the Low tone may be deleted in some cases.The lack of participation of the M tone in some phonological processes such as vowel elision,glide formation and vowel assimilation reveals the unstable nature of this tone in Iṣẹkírì.This paper concludes that the M tone is in asymmetry to the H and L tones in Iṣẹkírìand demonstrates the need for more perceptual and acoustic studies of tonal behaviour in Iṣẹkírì.

Traditional Chinese medicine five-tone therapy

From the perspective of the application of medical value orientation music therapy, this paper summarized the ancient Chinese sound therapy, such as shaman music therapy and five-tone therapy. It also compared five-tone therapy with Tibetan Singing bowl music therapy. The ancient music therapy is a kind of medical means which is oriented to the treatment effect. At first, it was mainly based on the music medical behavior of Taoist, and then gradually evolved into the modern treatment application of folk pentatonic therapy. On the basis of inheritance and development of ancient traditional music treatment, contemporary medicine proposed a new individualized music treatment. Therefore, the theory of five-tone therapy has updated the research on traditional Chinese music treatment theory and system, and will provide reference for the establishment of accurate music treatment system in the future.

Study on the feasibility of five tones combined with electric acupuncture therapy for drug rehabilitation

Objective:To explore the feasibility of five tones combined with electro-acupuncture for drug rehabilitation.Methods:Search and screen the literature related to drug rehabilitation with musical electrico-acupuncture in PubMed,CNKI,CQVIP and Wanfang data to May 2019,and summarize and analyze the literature.Results:Either music therapy or acupuncture therapy has therapeutic responses respectively,and the combined use of both is more effective than the single-use.Conclusion:The combination of five tones and acupuncture is highly feasible for drug rehabilitation.

Factors affecting the performance of a multi-tone carrier source based re-circulating frequency shifter

Generation of single-sideband （SSB） multi-carrier source based on a recirculating frequency shifter （RFS） is anal- ysed theoretically and realized experimentally. The effects of affecting factors originating from the deviation from the right operation bias voltage and unbalanced amplitude, and the phase of the radio frequency （RF） drive signals on the performance of the multi-tone source are discussed in detail. Based on the theoretical analysis, high-quality 50-tone out- put is successfully realized. Experiments under some implementation imperfections are also carried out. The imperfect and low-quality output results are in good agreement with theoretical analysis.

Reduction of epinephrine in the lumbar spinal cord following repetitive blast-induced traumatic brain injury in rats

Traumatic brain inju ry-induced unfavorable outcomes in human patients have independently been associated with dysregulated levels of monoamines,especially epinephrine,although few preclinical studies have examined the epinephrine level in the central nervous system after traumatic brain injury.Epinephrine has been shown to regulate the activities of spinal motoneurons as well as increase the heart rate,blood pressure,and blood flow to the hindlimb muscles.Therefore,the purpose of the present study was to determine the impact of repeated blast-induced traumatic brain injury on the epinephrine levels in seve ral function-s pecific central nervous system regions in rats.Following three repeated blast injuries at 3-day intervals,the hippocampus,motor cortex,locus coeruleus,vestibular nuclei,and lumbar spinal cord were harvested at post-injury day eight and processed for epinephrine assays using a high-sensitive electrochemical detector cou pled with high-performance liquid chromatography.Our results showed that the epinephrine levels were significantly decreased in the lumbar spinal cord tissues of blast-induced traumatic brain injury animals compared to the levels detected in age-and sex-matched sham controls.In other function-specific central nervous system regions,although the epinephrine levels were slightly altered following blast-induced tra u matic brain injury,they were not statistically significant.These results suggest that blast injury-induced significant downregulation of epinephrine in the lumbar spinal cord could negatively impact the motor and cardiovascular function.This is the first repo rt to show altered epinephrine levels in the spinal cord following repetitive mild blast-induced traumatic brain injury.

Analysis of the Effect of Transcutaneous Electrical Stimulation of Acupoints Combined with Rehabilitation Training in The Treatment of Upper Limb Dysfunction After Stroke

Objective:To analyze the effect of combining transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation(TEAS)with rehabilitation training in patients with upper limb dysfunction after stroke(ULDAS).Methods:A total of 130 ULDAS patients who were hospitalized and rehabilitated in Wuxi Xinwu District Rehabilitation Hospital from May 2021 to May 2023 were selected and randomly divided into Group A(65 cases,rehabilitation training)and Group B(65 cases,rehabilitation training+TEAS).The effects of the two groups were compared.Results:After treatment,the upper limb functional indexes of Group B were better than those of Group A(P<0.05).The rate of muscle tone grades 0-4 in Group B was higher than those of Group A(P<0.05).Conclusion:The function of upper limbs and muscle strength of ULDAS patients improved by combining TEAS with rehabilitation training.

How can music be a modus of accomplishing what Husserl calls“a radical,skeptical epochē”,that is,a way of refraining from judgment about all that is to be known?In order to answer the question,we have to first submit music itself to the act of epochē.This will allow us to get free from the widespread opinion that music is only an art,and to understand it in a broad sense,namely as a sphere of Being.This sphere is founded on the tone which,on its part,is thinkable not as an expression of the number(as in the Pythagorean tradition)or a medium for voicing,supplementing,or accompanying words,but as a primary essence enabling us to reach the truth of Being in a direct and immediate way.Hence,music provides an advantage for the one who chooses it as a way of accomplishing epochē.In providing immediate access to the truth of all thinkable things and of Being itself,it releases him from the necessity to cover any distance to it by passing through concepts,notions,and ideas in relation to which he is required to exercise the discipline of epochē.
