And the theme of the novel is also deepened. By interweaving fragments of time in the novel, Faulknerexpresses not only the agony towards the decline of Southern glorious culture, but more importantly, the loss of modern human’scourage, glory, honor, hope, pride, compassion, pity, and sacrifice.
