Microcomputers and their current application allow students to use them in laboratories, lecture halls, and libraries;software that are so developed that they allow to various types of computers (micros, picos, or hand-held computers) easy integration with larger systems. In this context libraries, as institutions become one of several available nodes in the information network, the new organization of teaching requires that teachers and students are computer literate requires libraries to provide methods and techniques for handling, through expert systems, their diverse searches, and similar (video disc, for example). Along with terms informatics and information science, there is also the term informatology which denotes theory and practice of emission, transmission, accumulation, selection, and absorption of information, the so-called ETAKSA complex. This paper, therefore, will be discussed communication and communication processes in university libraries that take place using new types of media, which we jointly referred to as information science and in the sea of definitions;we can say that we have added another.展开更多

Music education is presented in the relationship of the two main areas: science and education. There is evidence of a gradual expansion and changes in the content and methods of the science of music. The 21st century rapidly and dynamically entered in our lives in terms of the development of information communication, technological progress and unprecedented rise of scientific thought. Social upheavals of this period of history, a powerful wave of liberation movements have caused an unprecedented intensification of national creative forces committed to the development, expansion of contacts, attached to the other cultures. To date, the science of music has evolved so much on what grew out of it and separated into clearly separate spheres with their problems, trends, directions: music theory, music history, ethnomusicology, musical philosophy, and also music source studying. And it should be noted that each of these areas has its embodiment in materialized form of faculties, departments in the conservatory. Development of new standards, new plans, programs, new courses is a related process of development of these sciences in general.展开更多

Elementary- and high-school libraries, as well as the academic ones, are ubiquitous as associates and promoters of importance of information in the Digital Age. Information literacy becomes a foundation of an individual's literacy in general and leads him/her toward lifelong learning that becomes a philosophy on the way to a society of knowledge. The paper presents research results of informatics and information literacy among students with a purpose of improving the library mission and vision within future education. Data were collected by poll and the pollees were high-school and university students of Slavonski Brod and Osijek. This study found that although the trend of Internet usage in a library is not high, the percentage of those possessing a basic Information and Communication Technology OCT) literacy level is high. Another significant fact is that the number of those unskilled in ICT usage (online database and catalog search) is high which represents a challenge to the libraries and ICT experts who are the incumbents of great responsibility.展开更多

This paper describes a practice of a medical library in providing online access to health information for the general public.Design/methodology/approach: A four-step workflow is developed to integrate and disseminate heterogeneous health information from medical associations. First, a raw data repository is developed to manage the original submissions from information providers.Second, each document in the raw data repository is represented in a standardized XML schema. Third, the medical terms are identified and manually annotated, enriching the semantics of health information. Lastly, all the semantically enriched XML documents are converted to HTMLs for online dissemination.Findings: A health information website, CHealth, was developed for Chinese speakers. It provides free online access for all without any login or IP constrains. CHealth is available at www.chealth.org.cn.Research limitations: The current workflow is time-consuming and labor-intensive due to the lack of information submission/exchange standard and commonly agreed-on consumer health terminology in Chinese.Originality/value: In this work, the target audience of the medical library has been extended from traditional academic/professional to the general public. Methodologies in library sciences have been combined with those in consumer health informatics in CHealth development.展开更多

Secondly, compared with weblog users, microblog users are more interconnected, more equal and more capable of developing relationships with people outside their own social networks. Thirdly, the microblogging social network is more conducive to information diffusion than the blogging network, because of their differences in functions and the information flow mechanism. Finally, the communication mode emerged with microblogging, with the characteristics of micro-content,multi-channel information dissemination, dense and decentralized social network and content aggregation, will be one of the trends in the development of the information exchange platform in the future.Research limitations: The sample size needs to be increased so that samples are more representative. Errors may exist during the data collection. Moreover, the individual-level characteristics of the samples as well as the types of information exchanged need to be further studied.Practical implications: This preliminary study explores the characteristics of information diffusion in the network environment and verifies the feasibility of conducting a quantitative analysis of information diffusion through social media. In addition,it provides insight into the characteristics of information diffusion in weblogs and microblogs and the possible reasons of these differences.Originality/value: We have analyzed the characteristics of information diffusion in weblogs and microblogs by using the social network analysis methods. This research will be useful for a quantitative analysis of the underlying mechanisms of information flow through social media in the network environment.展开更多

Traditional metrics have a certain one-sidedness in the evaluation of disciplinary literature and cannot evaluate the impact of literature on the web;while Altmetrics can count how literature is followed and utilized on the web, which is a complement to the traditional measurement methods. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the impact of academic literature based on Altmetrics, and combining it with traditional citation indicators can strengthen the credibility and objectivity of academic evaluation and promote better dissemination and communication of academic results. Against this research background, this paper combed through the most influential articles in the field of library and information science in recent years, analysed the literature on library intelligence in the WOS database, identified current research hotspots in the field of library and information science, and predicted potential research hotspots in the future. An IL course was designed by subject librarians of National Science Library(NSL), Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS), with three patterns addressing the development of graduate students' IL competencies.Research limitations: It is only about the practice of subject librarians at NSL, CAS, in designing IL courses for graduate students enrolling in graduate courses offered by College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, GUCAS.Practical implications: The results can provide a lot of useful information for the improvement of IL competencies of graduate students in science and technology disciplines.Originality/value: It is significant for assisting future subject librarians in incorporating IL skills into their course, especially for academic and research librarians to prepare and develop IL courses for science and engineering graduate students.展开更多

An IL course was designed by subject librarians of National Science Library(NSL), Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS), with three patterns addressing the development of graduate students' IL competencies.Research limitations: It is only about the practice of subject librarians at NSL, CAS, in designing IL courses for graduate students enrolling in graduate courses offered by College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, GUCAS.Practical implications: The results can provide a lot of useful information for the improvement of IL competencies of graduate students in science and technology disciplines.Originality/value: It is significant for assisting future subject librarians in incorporating IL skills into their course, especially for academic and research librarians to prepare and develop IL courses for science and engineering graduate students.

文摘In three decades of reform and opening up,China’s Library and Information Science Education in general has experienced three stages.1978-1988 were the years of restoration and development;1989-1998 were the years of change and adjustment;1999-2008 were the years of perfection and innovation.During this period,Library and Information Science Education in China made considerable progress, and the ability of library and information personnel training was significantly improved. The hbrary and information education system was initially set up,the team of teachers of library and information initially formed, and the construction of library and information disciplines made significant achievements. However, regarding Library and Information Science Education in China, there are still many questions worth considering. It should orient toward the U environment,be integrated into library and information practice, take the optimization of knowledge structure as its educational goal, use 'problem-centered' teaching methods, and develop towards the first-level discipline of 'Library and Information Management Science'.
