X-Ray Radiation Sensing Properties of ZnS Thin Film:A Study on the Effect of Annealing

Chemically synthesized ZnS thin film is found to be a good x-ray radiation sensor. We report the effect of annealing on the x-ray radiation detection sensitivity of a ZnS thin film synthesized by a chemical bath deposition technique. The chemically synthesized ZnS films are annealed at 333, 363 and 393K for 1 h. Structural analyses show that the lattice defects in the films decrease with annealing. Further, the band gap is also found to decrease from 3.38 to 3.21 eV after annealing at 393K. Current-voltage characteristics of the films are studied under dark and x-ray irradiation conditions. Due to the decrease of lattice defects and band gap, the conductivity under dark conditions is found to increase from 2.06 × 10^-6 to 1.69 × 10^-5 S/em, while that under x-ray irradiation increases from 4.13 × 10^-5 to 5.28 ×10^-5 S/cm. On the other hand, the x-ray radiation detection sensitivity of the films is found to decrease with annealing. This decrease of detection sensitivity is attributed to the decrease of the band gap as well as some structural and surface morphological changes occurring after annealing. 展开更多

A Numerical Study of the Mechanism for the Effect of Northern Winter Arctic Ice Cover on the Global Short-Range Climate Evolution

By using a nine-layer global spectral model involving fuller parameterization of physical processes, with a rhomboidal truncation at wavenumber 15, experiments are performed in terms of two numerical schemes, one with long-term mean coverage of Arctic ice (Exp.1), the other without the ice (Exp.2). Results indicate that the Arctic region is a heat source in Exp.2 relative to the case in Exp.1. Under the influence of the polar heat source simulated, there still exist stationary wavetrains that produce WA-EUP and weak PNA patterns in Northern winter. That either the Arctic or the tropical heat source can cause identical climatic effects is due to the fact that the anomaly of the Arctic ice cover will directly induce a south-propagating wavetrain, and bring about the redistribution of the tropical heat source / sink. The redistribution is responsible for new wavetrains that will exert impact on the global climate. The simulation results bear out further that the polar region in Exp.2 as a heat source, can produce, by local forcing, a pair of positive and negative difference centers, which circle the Arctic moving eastwards. Observed in the Northern Hemisphere extratropics is a 40-50 day oscillation in relation to the moving pair, both having the same period. 展开更多

In this study the effect of Sheng-ai Injection i.e. Red Ginseng-Ophiopogon Root Injection (one kind of traditional Chinese medicines) on the contractivity of diaphragm was observed. The results confirmed that Sheng-ai Injection increased Pdi of the fatigued diaphragm in rabbits and reduced the time needed for the recovery of Pdi of fatigued diaphragm to the normal value. These results suggest that Sheng-Mai Injection can increase the contractive force and promote the recovery of the fatigued diaphragm. The effect of Sheng-ai Injection on the contractivity of the isolated diaphragmatic bundle of rats was also observed and the results confirmed that Sheng-ai Injection increased the diaphragmatic contractive force directly. This effect of increasing the contractive force of diaphragm was attenuated by adding calcium channel blocker isoptin and disappeared when there was no calcium in the extracellular fluid. It is deduced, therefore, that the mechanism of the effect of Sheng-mai Injection is related to the increased influx of calcium from extracellular fluid into the cells. 展开更多

By using a five-layer primitive equation model with P-sigma coordinates, the effect of convective heating source with the oscillation of a dipole pattern over the tropical Indian Ocean-Western Pacific on Asian sum- mer monsoon is investigated. The results from simulations show that the oscillatary heating source may cause oscillations in east-west zonal circulation at the equator, in cross-equatorial flow, in meridional monsoon circulation and in the phase of high-low level circulation over Asia, with period same as that of the oscillating heat source. Furthermore, the influence mechanism of the tropical heating source associated with oscillations on Asian summer monsoon circulation is also studicd. It is clearly shown that the west- ward propagation of thermally-forced Rossy waves to the west of the oscillatary heating source and the northward propagation of disturbances can give rise to oscillations of the equatorial east-west zonal circula- tion and monsoonal meridional circulation. Using a limited-area P-σ incorporated coordinate five-level primitive equation model fed with the ECMWF 5°×5°grid data,a simulation is made of a large-scale cold surge of late December 1982.Results show that the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau has no profound thermal but dynamic effect on the East-Asian winter monsoon that forces cold air to go southwards by its east side,exciting Kelvin waves behind the cold front to result in the maximum NE wind.Besides,gravitational waves independent of the Plateau occur ahead of the front advancing towards the south.They may be due to the excitation involved in the front itself. The cold surge is propagated under the Hadley cell,making it strengthened and moved southwards. 展开更多

Objective To investigate the effect of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) on limb ischemia/reperfusion injury of rats and the mechanism Methods The hind limb ischemia/reperfusion injury of male SD rats was induced by tourniquet for 2 hours and then reperfusing for 12 hours with administration of different agents Animals were divided into control, bFGF 10 and bFGF 50, VEGF 10 and VEGF 50 group by infusing physiological saline, 10 and 50?μg/kg bFGE, 10 and 50?μg/kg VEGF, respectively Blood was collected to determine malonyldialdehyde (MDA), and the ischemic reperfused gastrocnemius muscle and the contralateral control one were harvested together for measurement of tissue viability, water content, myeloperoxidose (MPO) activity, ATP and MDA concentration Results Compared with control group, tissue viability of ischemia/reperfusion limb in bFGF 10 and bFGF 50 group increased by 16 0% ( P <0 05) and 32 8% ( P <0 01), ATP content increased by 14 8% and 35 6% ( P <0 01), and plasma MDA level decreased by 45 2% and 56 2% ( P <0 01) 10?μg/kg bFGF had no significant effect on tissue water content, MPO activity, MDA concentration of ischemia/reperfusion limb, while 50?μg/kg of bFGF lowered these values by 15 7%, 32 5% and 13 6% ( P <0 05) and 14 7% ( P <0 01), MPO activity augmented by 44 9% and 96 1% ( P <0 01), ATP content decreased by 13 1% ( P <0 05) and 33 3% ( P <0 01) Plasma and tissue MDA concentrations in VEGF 10 group had no significant changes ( P >0 05), while in VEGF 50 group, these values were elevated by 46 4% and 38 6% ( P <0 01) Conclusion bFGF attenuated, while VEGF exacerbated ischemia/reperfusion injury of rat limb significantly, the mechanism of which was probably related to preventing or enhancing lipid peroxide, and increasing or decreasing energy store 展开更多

Seven homologous series p-A=B-C_6H_4(CH=CH)_nX=Y (A=B: NO_2, X=Y: CHO, COMe, CN, NO_2; A=B: CN, X=Y: CHO, CN; A=B: H, X=Y: NO_2) were synthesized, the effect of opposite terminal groups in phenylpolyenic conjugative systems has been studied by means of UV, XPS, ^(13) C NMR and quantum chemical calculation. The results show that: 1. There exists the effect of opposite terminal groups exists in phenylpolyenic and other aromatic conjugative systems. 2. When A=B and X=Y are the same, the group (-X=Y) connected at polyenic chain is a terminal group, while the other is an opposite terminal group. When the two groups are different, the one with weaker conjugative power plays the role of the opposite terminal group. 3. The effect of opposite terminal groups increases successively in the order of CN, COMe, CHO, NO_2 and can be quantita- tively described with substitute equivalent △N_s. Theλ_(max) of compound containing an opposite terminal group can be calculated by the homologous equation 10^(-4) =a+b/(1/2)^(2/N'^(-S)_a), most of the calculated values are in agreement with experiment results. 展开更多
