All the diagnosis were confirmed by pathologic examination. There were 5485 cases (69.62%) of malignant tumors. Nearly an half of malignant tumors were in the nasopharynx (49.32%). Among the malignant tumors of the nasopharynx, 2698 were carcinoma (99.34%) and only 18 (0.66%) sarcoma. Nine of them were under 10 years of age, the youngest patient was 3 years old, and this is rare in our county. The incidence of head and neck tumors was 37.66% and that of the head and neck malignancies was 26.22% of tumors in the whole body. This study indicates that incidence of malignant tumor in head and neck was rather higher, it is worth to improve ths procedure of treatment and prevention. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Cancer of unknown primary(CUP)is a histological proven malignant tumor whose origin cannot be detected despite careful examination. Most cervical lymph node metastases in CUP(80%)will originate from head and neck sites, and 15%show infiltration of squamous carcinoma cells. The survival rates of CUP are poor:The 5-year-survival rate ranges from 10%to 15%.First-line treatment recommendation for advanced, inoperable squamous cell carcinoma of head/neck(HNSCC)was cetuximab plus platinum-fluorouracil chemotherapy until recently, when checkpoint inhibitors proved clinically beneficial therapies.CASE SUMMARY Here,we report a case of a 42-year-old female patient with cervical and abdominal lymph node and distant bone metastases of an occult primary of the head and neck(squamous cell carcinoma, human papillomavirus positive). The cancer was diagnosed during pregnancy 10 years ago,and after giving birth, the patient was treated with cetuximab plus platinum-fluorouracil chemotherapy achieving complete remission(CR).CR lasted 26 mo when new metastases(abdominal lymph node, lumbar vertebral body)emerged. Both manifestations were irradiated. From then on,the patient has not received any further treatment, and her disease has remained controlled.Ten years after the initial cancer diagnosis, the patient is still alive and in good health, representing an exceptional case of HNSCC.CONCLUSION This case illustrates the exceptional clinical course and benefits of combined therapy approaches in advanced metastatic HNSCC with occult primary. 展开更多

Oral cancer(OC)is one of the most recurrent cancers in the head and neck squamous cancer(SCCHN)category.Recently, the genome-wide association studies(GWAS)have gained growing interest in the scientific community.GWAS have identified several pathways involved in the interactions among general risk factors and genomic variants affecting SCCHN.This systematic overview aims to critically evaluate the latest data reported within the scientific literature. The aim was to investigate the impact of genetic aspects on SCCHN onset and prognosis, involving other clinical and systemic co-factors.PubMed,Google Scholar, and Cancer Genetics Web databases have been systematically investigated for original articles published in the last two years, reporting studies on the main queries addressed in this work. This review also comparatively describes the impact of environmental and pathological co-factors in different types of cancers, clarifying and updating the role of genetic factors in SCCHN onset and development. The main outcomes reported may be helpful to drive clinicians towards their clinical evaluations for the most appropriate therapeutic approach in SCCHN. 展开更多

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma(HNSCC)is one of the most common cancers in the world with a close relation with some risk factor like, tobacco, alcohol consumption and more recently, with human papilloma virus infection.A review of the literature about actual prognosis and quality of life in HNSCC has been done analysing the results of surgical treatment and their impact on the quality of life of patients.Despite the elevated incidence of HNSCC,the survival rate has increased considerably over the last years thanks to the development of new surgical techniques, such as,microvascular reconstruction or transoral robotic surgery and the most accurate adjuvant radiochemotherapy.Even in bad prognosis cases, there are many options to take into account not only with curative expectation, even, keeping in mind the preservation of the quality of life of patients.Due to the improvement of the prognosis, the interest of surgeons has been focused on preserve the aesthetics, functional and psychosocial aspect of patients without a worsening of the main objective which is the curative result.Although prognosis of HNSCC has improved, further studies are necessary to understand the behaviour in every case and determine how the impact on the quality of life can be a useful tool to individualize the therapies. 展开更多
