Perception and attitude of theatre staff to preoperative HIV testing at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital

Objective:To elucidate the awareness and approach to pre-operative human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) testing and emphasis on the attendant components of HIV testing.Methods: The study was conducted at the theatres of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital among 123 nursing,anaesthetic,and operating staff.A descriptive cross sectional design was adopted with stratified sampling.The study instrument was a structured,self administered pro forma.Results:All respondents were all aware of HIV infection and all had transmission through infected blood and tissues(100.0%).88.6%had infection through needle stick injuries, 62.6%through vertical transmission,and 98.4%through blood transfusion.Sixty three percent of respondents correctly knew what preoperative testing was,while 58.5%were aware of the preoperative testing policy of the hospital.All respondents favoured the policy of preoperative testing.Attitudinal values to seropositive patients were not very different as 72.4%of respondents claimed they treated every patient as high risk,and all respondents used personal protective equipment.Conclusions:Routine HIV testing now represents a conventional means providing patients with knowledge of their HIV status.Such testing should be accompanied by informed consent,counselling,confidentiality,protection,and access to treatment.

The Use of Glycated Albumin in the Diagnosis of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

Gestational diabetes mellitus is the most common endocrine disorder in pregnancy and a cause of maternal and fetal morbidities and mortalities. The oral glucose tolerance test is the gold standard for diagnosing gestational diabetes mellitus. Nevertheless, the oral glucose tolerance test is time-consuming and requires patient preparation. On the contrary, Glycated albumin does not require patient preparation or administration of any substance. Most studies on glycated albumin in pregnancy were among the non-African population, and black Americans have higher glycated albumin levels than Caucasians. This study determined the use of glycated albumin in diagnosing gestational diabetes mellitus among pregnant women. The study was a prospective study of 160 pregnant women between 24 and 28 weeks of gestation at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital. The diagnosis of gestational diabetes mellitus was based on the World Health Organization 2013 criteria. The diagnostic value of glycated albumin was determined using the area under the receiver operator characteristic curve. The prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus was 9.4% and the mean glycated albumin was 16.91% (±2.77). The area under the receiver operator characteristic curve for glycated albumin was 0.845 (95% CI 0.733 - 0.956;p = 0.0001). The optimal cut-off value of glycated albumin in the diagnosis of gestational diabetes mellitus was 18.9%. Glycated albumin was useful in the diagnosis of gestational diabetes mellitus at 24 to 28 weeks of gestation.

Testing the robustness of particle-based separation models for the magnetic separation of a complex skarn ore

Physical separation processes are best understood in terms of the behaviour of individual ore particles.Yet,while different empirical particle-based separation modelling approaches have been developed,their predictive performance has never been tested under variable process conditions.Here,we investigated the predictive performance of a state-of-the-art particle-based separation model under variable feed composition for a laboratory-scale magnetic separation of a skarn ore.Two scenarios were investigated:one in which the mass flow of the different processing streams could be measured and one in which it had to be estimated from data.In both scenarios,the predictive models were sufficiently general to predict the process outcomes of new samples of variable composition.Nevertheless,the scenario in which mass flow could be measured was4%more precise in predicting mass balances.The process behaviour of minerals present at concentrations above 0.1%by weight could be accurately predicted.Our findings indicate the potential use of this method to minimize the costs of metallurgical testwork while providing in-depth understanding of the recovery behaviour of individual ore particles.Moreover,the method may be used to establish powerful tools to forecast mineral recoveries for partly new ore types at a running mining operation.

Research and Practice of Hybrid Teaching for Software Testing based on Interactive Learning

To address the problems of insufficient number of personalized exercises and cases and teachers’lack of grasp of students’weak knowledge points in the current software testing online courses,we study the strategy of establishing and updating intelligent exercise sets and case libraries and analyze the answers and dig out the weak points of knowledge through group intelligence reasoning and interactive machine learning methods.This will help teachers to make uniform and targeted explanations,reduce manual judgment,and achieve intelligent teaching quality reform,and implement the educational concepts of“keeping up with the times”and“teaching according to students’abilities”.

Investigating the Relationship Between Teaching Approach and Language Learning Motivation of College English Classrooms in China

The study was aimed at exploring the relationship between teaching approach and students'learning motivation.The participants were two college English teachers and their fixed group of students.The research lasted 16 weeks.The instruments used in the study were Attitude/Motivation Test Battery(AMTB) and classroom observation.Analyzing by the mean of the AM TB result,researchers got the popular tendencies of students'learning motivation level every four weeks.Comparing the change of students'learning motivation level and teacher participants'frequency of using the recommended teaching approach,this arti cle intends to achieve two purposes:1) Is students'learning motivation related to their teachers'teaching approach? 2) Among the approach recommended by literature,which works the best in the colleges in China?

Enlightenment of the Chinese English Competence Scale on College English Teaching in Applied Colleges and Universities

CSE (China's Standards of English) is China's first English proficiency assessment standard covering all semester. Its abilitygrading reflects the correspondence between the English level of students in each scholastic school and the ability to describe thedescriptors, and it is targeted and instructive for college English teaching. As an English assessment reform that benefits allChinese English learners, the Chinese English Proficiency Rating Scale has an epoch-making significance. One of the core tasks ofthe construction of foreign language assessment system is to formulate a unified competency assessment standard, and to provide ascientific competency index system and accurate Competency Scale for various foreign language examinations. Study on the Research and Application of Network Teaching Courseware in Aerobics in Colleges and Universities

Aerobics teaching in colleges and universities is the most important part of higher education, and the important means to carry out quality-oriented education and cultivate all-round developed talents. The reform of aerobics teaching in colleges and universities should be geared to the demands of the times, and explore new innovation and continual development. In this paper, using the research methods of documentation, courseware development, teaching experiment and mathematical statistics, we study on the making and application of college aerobics network teaching courseware. It is revealed that, with the combination of modem network technology and college aerobics teaching, the resulted college aerobics network teaching courseware is the important media to not only upgrades college aerobics teaching quality, but also help develop students＇ habits of doing physical exercise, and promote physical health. Therefore, this is meaningful and practical in promoting the education of college students in physical quality development.

A Study on Washback Effect of CET-6 Translation Test Towards College English Teaching and Learning

CET-6 is a nationwide and standardized test to evaluate college students' English levels. Now more than 10 million college students take part in the exam every year. On August 14, 2013, the CET-4 and CET-6 examination committee reformed the structure of the CET-6 papers. After that the sentence translation was changed into paragraph translation,the scores of translation section also increased to 15 points which is more difficult and more important than before. There is no doubt that CET-6will exert a great impact on the teaching and learning of College English in China. This thesis focuses on the washback effect of CET-6 translation test towards college English teaching and learning.First of all, this paper introduces the CET-6 translation test requirements, and the score requirements of translation part. The author also illustrates some significant language testing research of both domestic and foreign scholars, and explains the concept of reliability and validity. Secondly, through the survey method of interviews and questionnaire the author study the characteristics of teaching in college classroom, the effect of translation teaching, and how do students to study translation. The author makes a further research on the interaction between the translation test and the teaching and learning based on the relevant theories. At last, the author finds that the negative washback effect of the CET-6 translation test is greater than the positive one. The author reflects on the current translation teaching and learning in China, and hopes to minimize the negative effects of CET-6 translation test.

Teaching ,Learning &Testing-Reconsideratios on the Pathway for Improving College English Teaching and Learning

The persistent and indefatigable efforts of all the College English teachers have brought about great changes in colle ge English teaching and learning in t he past few years.These changes,however,may be summa rized within the framework of a shift from one form of test -oriented teaching and learnin g to another.In reality,much has yet to be done to improve the language abilities of the studen ts.Under such circumstances,nationwi de English examinations or unified e xaminations at var-ious levels,are bound to make things even worse by misleading college and university teachers in their teaching practice.In this p aper,the author claims that College English teachers and their students should be freed from t he confinement of the unified examin ations so that they will be able to build a real learner -centr ed curriculum as far as possible according to their own needs.Finally,some tentative ideas are presented on the pathway for imp roving the quality of the College English teaching and learning.

Separation occurring during the drop weight tear test of thick-walled X80 pipeline steels

A separation phenomenon occurring during the drop weight tear test of commercial thick-walled API （American Petroleum Institute） X80 strip steel was investigated in this work. Microstructural analysis showed that the band structure of bainite elongated along the rolling direction works as the initiation sites of separation. The propagation of separation can be promoted not only by the occurrence of the band structure of martensite/austenite constituent, prior austenite grain boundaries, and elongated bainite, but also by fine acicular ferrite and bainite. Wide separation formed in the former case, while the narrow one appeared in the latter case. acicular ferrite in thick-walled X80 pipeline steel in order Some methods were proposed to obtain fine and homogeneous to minimize the occurrence of separation.

Highly efficient CO_(2) capture using 2-methylimidazole aqueous solution on laboratory and pilot-scale

To date,the primary industrial carbon capture approach is still absorption using aqueous solutions of alkanolamines.Here,to pursue a substitute for the amine-based approach to improve the CO_(2) capture efficiency and decrease the energy cost further,we report a new carbon capture approach using a 2-methylimidazole(mIm)aqueous solution.The properties and sorption behaviors of this approach have been experimentally investigated.The results show that the mIm solution has higher CO_(2) absorption capacity under relatively higher equilibrium pressure(>130 kPa)and lower desorption heat than the methyldiethanolamine solution.91.6%sorption capacity of mIm solution can be recovered at 353.15 K and 80 kPa.The selectivity for CO_(2)/N_(2) and CO_(2)/CH_(4) can reach an exceptional 7609 and 4324,respectively.Furthermore,the pilot-scale tests were also performed,and the results demonstrate that more than 98%of CO_(2) in the feed gas could be removed and cyclic absorption capacity can reach 1 mol·L^(-1).This work indicates that mIm is an excellent alternative to alkanolamines for carbon capture in the industry.

SEPARATION CONTROL FOR THE OUTWING OF A STRAKE－WING BY ROTATING CONE PLACED NEAR THE LEADING EDGE

Based on the research result on the strake-wing, when the size of a strakeis not large, there is a separation zone near the leading edge of the outwing of thestrake-wing at middle angles of attack. So the idea on separation control by rotating acone placed near the leading edge is presented. The cone surface consists of the part ofthe wing. The effect of rotating the cone on aerodynamic characteristics of thestrake-wing is investigated. The results show that a rotating surface could play an important role in controlling the flow separation for a 3-dimensional wing. For example,the relative increment in maximum lift coefficient attains 30%. The separation zone issuppressed to a certain extent.

Methodology for Evaluating and Monitoring of Waterworks Performance Efficiency —Part 1: Methods and Testing Procedures

This paper presents a methodology for evaluating the water purification process efficiency attained by 1) jar tests, which are commonly used to determine the treatability of water, and 2) waterworks performance in different phases of the purification process as well as in its entirety. This methodology provides an important tool for the following: 1) determination of optimised reaction conditions under which water is treatable to its best attainable quality;2) evaluation of the purification process efficiency attained by waterworks during different periods and under different operational conditions;3) comparisons of performance efficiency of different waterworks;and 4) comprehensive commissioning of waterworks and identification of bottlenecks if any exist in process and plant design. This paper describes procedures for pre-processing of water samples to be analysed as well as mathematical formulas for processing of the results obtained. A few examples of the practical application of the methodology are included and the potential to obtain the optimization of waterworks’ purification processes is herein illustrated.

The Application of Itest Paperless Test System in College English Teaching

In the process of public foreign language teaching,teaching evaluation is an indispensable part.With the rapid development of modern science and technology in China,major publishing houses are competing to research various software platforms related to public foreign languages,and carry out the research on the application evaluation of paperless teaching in various disciplines.Among them,the application effect is more prominent is the ITest test platform of FLTRP.This year,our school comprehensively adopts ITest as a means of English teaching evaluation.This paper will focus on the advantages and difficulties of paperless assessment in the process of teaching assessment based on this system,which is of great significance to the future foreign language teaching management of our college.
