The last of the Mohicans was written by American novelist James Fenimore Cooper in 1826,who is considered as the first long novelist of America. The work has no concentrate plots but the white people and the Indians'friendship, communication, and wars. The Last of the Mohicans was set in the mid-18th century when the French colonists and English colonists were fighting for Indian lands.English colonized America and were at loggerheads with France. It belongs to the frontier literature and creates a precedent for the American Frontier Fiction. The American western fiction has the most native feature. With the rise of multiculturalism trend at present,it is the best way for understanding the American local culture and history to study the American western fiction which is bred during the course of the frontier-running and Westward Movement.Cooper is a novelist who depicted the real and pure American life.Based on the frontier theme,he created Leatherstocking Tales, which is a series of five novels, are his masterpieces representing his style.Among them,The Last of the Mohicans prominently reflects the Indian culture. This thesis mainly explores the historical and cultural elements embodied in The Last of the Mohicans from the perspective of cross-cultural communication. 展开更多

This paper aims to compare and contrast two site-specific performance productions, both designed to grapple with processes of cultural remembrance, whilst also operating as successful tourist attractions. The narratives encompassed by both productions revolve around shared Australian histories, for audiences attracted by place and what it is able to represent. Re-enactments of past events call into the present a consideration of what still remains, with both shows enabling new subjective interpretations of earlier times. The defining difference between the two, however, rests in the context of each performance, in the one case as a commodification of heritage and in the other case as the desire to produce an artistic yet popular theatrical product. Ballarat's, Sovereign Hill's light and sound show, Blood on the Southern Cross celebrates and commemorates, in mega-spectacle style, the Eureka Stockade, one of Australia's key historical events. Using a mechanised display of the original goldmining site of the Eureka rebellion, the performance is operated by computers with video-projection, multi-phonic sound, and moving model forms, with audiences moved around the massive site on transporters. The Piccolo Tales, a contrasting performance most notably in terms of size, unfolds the history of Kings Cross, through its setting in the miniscule iconic Piccolo Bar, in one of the tiny side streets of Sydney's bustling and densest suburb. This paper encompasses an investigation of how the cultural inscriptions of the two specific sites interweave with the performance styles, materials, political and social positioning of the works. Previous performance studies examining site-specificity are utilised, including the author's analysis of particular festival performances as "place-making" (Hayes, 2012, 2013). Smith's (2009) model of "signposts" is used to consider acting within site-specific productions in a new light, whilst both performances are more completely analysed through Schneider's (2011) concept of incomplete pasts forming "cycles of memory". 展开更多

The steady and sound development of colleges and universities cannot go without the adoption of ecological thinking. However, the current construction of campus culture is disrupted by such prominent problems as insular ecological ethics, utilitarian talent cultivation pattern, poor academic atmosphere and distortion of values, hindering the rapid development of colleges and universities.Integrating the concept of ecological culture into the construction of campus culture and turning it into the mainstream culture serve as effective pathways to solve these problems and realize their mission of inheriting and passing on civilization.Advocating the harmony between man and nature,Natural History education is in line with ecological development concept and is an integral part of education on ecological pro-gress.The integration of Natural History education into the traditional education system in institutions of higher learning is conducive to educational diversity, cultivation of ecological awareness among students and transmission of socialist core values.College ecological culture can be better cultivated by establishing Natural History clubs, opening Natural History courses, carrying out ecological ethic education and implementing cultural communication on schools within the community. 展开更多

Since the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern Protectorates of Nigeria by Sir Lord Lugard, a former Colonial Master, in 1914, the country has not remain the same, because of historical/cultural differences of both Protectorates, that tends to affect the unity and leadership style of the country. Cultural Psychology emerged as an interdisciplinary subfield roughly in the 1980s/1990s. With about thirty years of momentum, this discipline has grown from little more than a special interests group to a topic to which multiple institutions and journals have been dedicated. This paper presents an outline of the discipline of Cultural Psychology from an American interdisciplinary perspective. The pitfalls of General Psychology (research methodology, politicization, and an essentialist hermeneutic) and Anthropology (an epistemological gap in the four fields approach, psychophobia, and the role of the researcher in cultural change) are addressed, in turn. Cultural Psychology provides an alternative to these pitfalls by drawing on the strengths of each discipline to address both theoretical and empirical problems. Cultural Psychology urges for a critical reflection on the social structure and history of its own discipline, resulting in a broader academic canon and a more nuanced understanding of interdisciplinary relations within the human sciences. 展开更多
