During continuous cooling transformation, the allotriomorphic ferrite (AF) and ferrite side plate (FSP) microstructures grew more rapidly with the temperature decreasing from 800 to 650 ℃, and the IAF microstructure was dominant within austenite grain with further cooling to 600 ℃. The diffusion bonding experiment and the effect of C, Mn and Si concentrations on the Ao3 temperature by thermodynam- ic calculation confirm that Ti2O3 itself absorbs neighboring Mn atoms to form Mn-depleted zone (MDZ), which pro- motes the nucleation of IAF microstructure effectively. High temperature holding tests indicate that the nucleation potential of IAF microstructure was lowered in the Ti-killed C-Mn steel when it was treated at high temperature (1250 ℃ ) for a longer time, which is attributed to the saturated absorption degree of Mn atoms by titanium oxide.展开更多

In the model, the thermodynamics and solute diffusion of multi-component systems were taken into account by using Thermo-Calc and Dictra software package. Scheil model was used to predict the relationship between the solid fraction and the temperature, which was used to calculate the movement velocity of the L/δ and the L/y interfaces. A mixed-mode model in multi-component systems was adopted to calculate the movement velocity of the 6/7 interface. To validate the cellular automaton model, the variation of manganese distribution was studied. The simulated results showed a good agreement with experimental results reported in literatures. Meanwhile, the simulated growth kinetics of peritectic solidification agreed well with the experimental results obtained using confocal scanning laser microscopy (CSLM). The model can simulate the growth kinetics of the peritectic solidification and the distribution of concentrations of all components in grains.展开更多

The Pickering's equation for the contribution of precipitates to the yield stress was also discussed. It is shown that there are numerous fine and dispersive precipitates TiC in the ferrite grains, on the grain boundaries and dislocations. Also there are a small amount of coarser Ti(C, N) particles and TiC particles associated with MnS. Precipitation strengthening on steels produced by the CSP technology is significant.展开更多

However, the original industrial data, usually unbalanced, are inevitably mixed with fluctuant and abnormal values. Models established on the basis of the data without data processing can cause misleading results, which cannot be used for the optimal design of hot rolling process. Thus, a method of industrial data processing of C-Mn steel was proposed based on the data analysis. The Bayesian neural network was employed to establish the reliable mechanical property prediction models for the optimal design of hot rolling process. By using the multi-objective optimization algorithm and considering the individual requirements of costumers and the constraints of the equipment, the optimal design of hot rolling process was successfully applied to the rolling process design for Q345B steel with 0.017% Nb and 0.046% Ti content removed. The optimal process design results were in good agreement with the industrial trials results, which verify the effectiveness of the optimal design of hot rolling process.展开更多

This model enables a depiction of three-stage kinetics of the transformation combined with the thermodynamic analysis:(1) the rapid austenite growth accompanied with pearlite degeneration until the pearlite dissolves completely;(2) the slower austenite growth into ferrite with a rate limiting factor of carbon diffusion in austenite;and(3) the slow austenite growth in control of the manganese diffusion until the final equilibrium reached for ferrite and austenite. The effect of the annealing temperature on the transformation kinetics and solute partition is also quantitatively rationalized using this model.展开更多

The new process "ultra fast cooling+ laminar cooling" was simulated and the effects of ultra fast cooling ending temperature on microstructure had also been investigated. The hot rolling experiment was done by adopting "high temperature rolling-[-forepart ultra fast cooling" technologies at laboratory scale. The results revealed that ultra fast cooling can delay the decrease of disloca- tion density and refine ferrite grains. Diversity control of the microstructure and phase transformation strengthening can be realized by changing the ultra fast cooling ending temperature. With the decrease of ultra fast cooling ending temperature, the strength and toughness increase, but plasticity does not decrease obviously. The new technique can improve the yield strength by over 50 MPa. Therefore, the upgrade of mechanical properties of C-Mn steel can be realized by using "high temperature rolling+ ultra fast cooling+laminar cooling" technique. Compared with "low temperature rolling with large deformation degree" technique, this new technology can decrease the roiling force and in- crease the production efficiency.展开更多

The microstructure and low-temperature impact fracture were investigated using a scanning electron microscope and a pendulum impact machine, respectively. Moreover, the relationship between cooling time ts/5 and the microstructure of CGHAZ was discussed, and the effect of microstructure on impact toughness was also studied. As cooling time increased, martensite fraction decreased from 97.8% (3 s) to 3.0% (60 s). The fraction of martensite/austenite (M/A) constituent increased from 2.2% (3 s) to 39.0% (60 s), its shape changed from granular to strip, and the maximum length increased from 2.4 μm (3 s) to 7.0 μm (60 s). As cooling time increased, the prior austenite grain size increased from 34.0 μm (3 s) to 49.0 gm (60 s), the impact absorption energy reduced from 101.8 J (5 s) to 7.2 J (60 s), and the fracture mechanism changed from quasi-cleavage fracture to cleavage fracture. The decreased toughness of CGHAZ was due to the reduction of lath martensite-content, coarsening of original austenite grain, and increase and coarsening of M/A constituent. The heat input was controlled under 7 kJ cm-1 during actual welding for these steels.展开更多
