In this study, we analyzed differences i...There is a need to reduce the burden of child drop-off and pick-up for child-rearing generations, but most studies on the actual situation in Japan are based on survey results. In this study, we analyzed differences in child drop-off and pick-up by employment type and gender, utilizing the “Metropolitan Area Person Trip Survey,” which is a statistical data set. The study targeted households in which both spouses were between 30 and 49 years old, had children under the age of 6, and included the following three groups. 1) Dual-income Group 1 (both spouses employed/on contract/temporary);2) Dual-income Group 2 (husband employed/on contract/temporary, wife part-time);3) Full-time housewife group (husband employed, wife unemployed). The analysis revealed that a) wives are almost always responsible for dropping off and picking up their children;b) husbands drop off and pick up their children less frequently in dual-income households;and c) households with children raising within 10 to 30 km of Tokyo Station have longer commuting times and need to reduce the burden of dropping off and picking up their children.展开更多

Eight sets of coastal acoustic tomography (CAT) systems were deployed during November 29 to December 10, 2002 at the coasts on both sides of Tokyo Bay to measure tidal current structures at 15-min interval.Sound trans...Eight sets of coastal acoustic tomography (CAT) systems were deployed during November 29 to December 10, 2002 at the coasts on both sides of Tokyo Bay to measure tidal current structures at 15-min interval.Sound transmission across the Tokyo Bay (between Yokohama and Chiba)was successfully traced,even under severe interference from ship generated wakes and bubbles.Tidal current fields changing from northward to southward flow are well reconstructed by the inverse analysis of travel-time difference data for a period with the best sound transmission condition. It is suggested that the CAT is the most powerful tool to continuously map tidal current fields in the coastal seas with heavy shipping traffic and fisheries activity.展开更多

The amount of money lost and assistance nee...The novel coronavirus (SARS-Cov-2) delayed the Tokyo 2020 Games. The traveling by air, rail, road, and sea inside and outside the countries has stopped to contain the virus. The amount of money lost and assistance needed to reschedule and conduct the Games in 2021 have been estimated. With more than one billion population is under the semi-locked down and movement of people is restricted, athletes cannot prepare at home and participate in the Games. The COVID-19 outbreak has spread around the world;it has already infected 5.7 million people and caused 355,000 deaths reported on May 28, 2020 and the figures increasing every day. The publication of this article is important as the postponement of the Olympics has costed Japan $6 billion and the organizers have worked very hard for seven years. If the Games are conducted in 2021, it will be the—beginning of the world recovery—from big COVID-19 pandemic. In this communication, the development in testing, treatment, and vaccine preparation for SARS-Cov-2 have occurred so far in different countries and companies have been discussed to know the possibilities if the pandemic can be overcome and the Games can be conducted in 2021.展开更多

This study aimed to ver...BACKGROUND: The lack of widely-accepted guidelines for acute cholangitis largely lags behind the progress in medical and surgical technology and science for the management of acute cholangitis. This study aimed to verify the Tokyo guidelines for the management of acute cholangitis and cholecystitis of 2007 edition (TG07) in patients with obstructive cholangitis due to benign and malignant diseases. METHODS: The patients were retrieved from our existing ERCP database. Final diagnosis of acute cholangitis was made by detecting purulent bile during biliary drainage. We examined and compared the guidelines concerning benign and malignant obstruction. RESULTS: In 120 patients in our study, 82 and 38 had benign and malignant biliary obstruction, respectively. Guidelines based diagnosis was made in 68 (82.9%), 36 (94.7%), and 104 (86.7%) patients with benign, malignant, and overall biliary obstruction, respectively, which were significantly higher than 44 (53.7%), 17 (44.7%), and 61 (50.8%) diagnosed by Charcot’s triad (P【0.001). Treatment consistent with the guidelines was offered to 58 (70.7%) patients with benign obstruction and15 (39.5%) patients with malignant obstruction (P=0.001). No significant association was observed between clinical compliance, guidelines-based severity grades and clinical outcomes. In the multivariate model, intrahepatic obstruction (OR=11.2, 95% CI: 1.55-226.9) and hypoalbuminemia (≤25.0 g/L; OR=17.3, 95% CI: 3.5-313.6) were independent risk factors for a 30-day mortality. CONCLUSIONS: The TG07 are more reliable than Charcot’s triad for the diagnosis of acute cholangitis albeit with limited prognostic values. Intrahepatic obstruction and hypoalbuminemia are new predictors of poor prognosis and need further assessment.展开更多

Its occurrence is because of coastal...In Tokyo Bay, blue tide is a phenomenon that seawater presents to be milky blue due to reflection of sunshine off surface water in which a large number of sulfur particles suspend. Its occurrence is because of coastal upwelling of the oxygen-depleted water at the bottom of the bay induced by the blowing of a northeasterly wind, consequently leading to many deaths of shellfish and some aquatic animals in the bay. In this study, an analytical solution of minimum wind stress for the occurrence of blue tide on the southeast shore of the bay is presented based on a two-layered model, and comparison with observation data of blue tide from 2003 to 2010 shows the validity of this solution. The results of sensitivity analysis to all of parameters involved in this solution were also found to agree with qualitative understandings of blue tide phenomenon.展开更多
Based on the official criminal data released by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department in 2019,this paper discusses the temporal-spatial distribution of various types of crimes in the special wards of Tokyo.The resu...Based on the official criminal data released by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department in 2019,this paper discusses the temporal-spatial distribution of various types of crimes in the special wards of Tokyo.The results show that:(1)The times of high and low incidence of different types of crime differ significantly.Although vicious crime and violent crime present no obvious monthly distribution,property crime clearly differs between the first and second half of a calendar year.(2)The month before the new year sees a surge in most types of crime.(3)Vicious crime peaks in the hours between night and early morning.Violent crime and property crime correlate positively with the frequency of human interaction and peak in the morning and evening commuting hours.(4)The spatial distribution of crime resembles the concentric circles of the three rings of the special wards of Tokyo,with a central high-incidence area,a center-peripheral low-incidence area,and a marginal high-incidence area.In addition,the center sees more personal crime than the periphery,whereas property crimes show the opposite trend.(5)A spatial autocorrelation analysis shows that the special wards of Tokyo may be grouped into the“high-high”and“low-low”agglomeration modes of different types of crime,with marked differences between the various types of crime.The crime can be divided into three types:central agglomeration,double central agglomeration,and decentralized agglomeration.展开更多

BACKGROUND Gangrenous cholecystitis is a form of acute cholecystitis which involves gangrenous alterations in the gallbladder wall and it often follows an acute and serious course.We herein report on two cases of very...BACKGROUND Gangrenous cholecystitis is a form of acute cholecystitis which involves gangrenous alterations in the gallbladder wall and it often follows an acute and serious course.We herein report on two cases of very elderly people diagnosed early with gangrenous cholecystitis,who safely underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy(LC)and both demonstrated a good outcome.CASE SUMMARY Case 1:An 89-year-old female.She underwent abdominal contrast-enhanced computed tomography(CECT)due to abdominal pain and diarrhea.Her gallbladder wall indicated the absence of contrast enhancement,thus leading to diagnosis of gangrenous cholecystitis and she therefore underwent LC.Although her gallbladder demonstrated diffuse necrosis and it was also partly perforated,she was able to be discharged without any serious complications.Case 2:A 91-year-old female.She made an emergency visit with a chief complaint of abdominal pain.Abdominal CECT revealed swelling of the gallbladder and an ambiguous continuity of the gallbladder wall.She was diagnosed with gangrenous cholecystitis and underwent LC.Her gallbladder had swelling and diffuse necrosis.Although her preoperative blood culture was positive,she showed a good outcome following surgery.CONCLUSION Although a definite diagnosis of gangrenous cholecystitis is difficult to make prior to surgery,if an early diagnosis can be made and appropriate treatment can be carried out,then even very elderly individuals may be discharged without major complications.展开更多

The Zn concentration in sediments in the 1980s-2000s was considerably higher than the background concentration, suggesting that there remain important sources of Zn in the bay. The δ66Zn (+0.51‰) of anthropogenic Zn estimated in the core was significantly higher than those (approximately –0.1‰ - +0.2‰) of treated water from sewage treatment plants and vehicle-related sources. A large number of electroplating plants are located in Tokyo areas. It is assumed that Zn in effluents from electroplating operations is isotopically heavier owing to a negative isotopic effect on Zn electroplating. This tends to support the hypothesis that river bottom sediments, which were contaminated with Zn in the untreated effluents from electroplating plants in the past, are the principal sources of anthropogenic Zn in Tokyo Bay in the 1980s-2000s.展开更多
In 2017,the Tokyo Arts Festival invited theatre directors from three geographical locations to direct Shakespeare’s plays:The British director John Caird directed Hamlet,the Romanian director Silviu Purcārete direct...In 2017,the Tokyo Arts Festival invited theatre directors from three geographical locations to direct Shakespeare’s plays:The British director John Caird directed Hamlet,the Romanian director Silviu Purcārete directed Richard III,and the Belgian director Ivo Van Hove directed a Dutch Othello.They approached Shakespeare’s plays from unique perspectives,using their own native or Japanese language,working with Japanese and foreign actors and staff.They were performed in Tokyo and watched by various audiences.This paper examines the interactive effect of international theatre and the Tokyo Arts Festival and argues that Shakespeare,being a common currency in the world,functions as media for the Festival,and vice versa.While the Festival provides opportunities and support for foreign directors and companies,staging of international Shakespeare productions raises the profile of the Festival and promotes artistic and cultural programmes and exchange internationally.The audience also has much to gain:the Festival allows them to experience cultural differences and a reflection of themselves or of the world in works of art.The paper argues that the differences created in the international Shakespearean productions and realized and experienced by the audience are the essence of the theatre and meaning and value of the Festival.展开更多

The results of sensitivity analysis to all of parameters involved in this solution were also found to agree with qualitative understandings of blue tide phenomenon.

文摘Based on the official criminal data released by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department in 2019,this paper discusses the temporal-spatial distribution of various types of crimes in the special wards of Tokyo.The results show that:(1)The times of high and low incidence of different types of crime differ significantly.Although vicious crime and violent crime present no obvious monthly distribution,property crime clearly differs between the first and second half of a calendar year.(2)The month before the new year sees a surge in most types of crime.(3)Vicious crime peaks in the hours between night and early morning.Violent crime and property crime correlate positively with the frequency of human interaction and peak in the morning and evening commuting hours.(4)The spatial distribution of crime resembles the concentric circles of the three rings of the special wards of Tokyo,with a central high-incidence area,a center-peripheral low-incidence area,and a marginal high-incidence area.In addition,the center sees more personal crime than the periphery,whereas property crimes show the opposite trend.(5)A spatial autocorrelation analysis shows that the special wards of Tokyo may be grouped into the“high-high”and“low-low”agglomeration modes of different types of crime,with marked differences between the various types of crime.The crime can be divided into three types:central agglomeration,double central agglomeration,and decentralized agglomeration.

This paper intends to make a brief review and tosummerize some similarities of the basic feaures in respects ofindustrialization and urbanization.
文摘BACKGROUND Gangrenous cholecystitis is a form of acute cholecystitis which involves gangrenous alterations in the gallbladder wall and it often follows an acute and serious course.We herein report on two cases of very elderly people diagnosed early with gangrenous cholecystitis,who safely underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy(LC)and both demonstrated a good outcome.CASE SUMMARY Case 1:An 89-year-old female.She underwent abdominal contrast-enhanced computed tomography(CECT)due to abdominal pain and diarrhea.Her gallbladder wall indicated the absence of contrast enhancement,thus leading to diagnosis of gangrenous cholecystitis and she therefore underwent LC.Although her gallbladder demonstrated diffuse necrosis and it was also partly perforated,she was able to be discharged without any serious complications.Case 2:A 91-year-old female.She made an emergency visit with a chief complaint of abdominal pain.Abdominal CECT revealed swelling of the gallbladder and an ambiguous continuity of the gallbladder wall.She was diagnosed with gangrenous cholecystitis and underwent LC.Her gallbladder had swelling and diffuse necrosis.Although her preoperative blood culture was positive,she showed a good outcome following surgery.CONCLUSION Although a definite diagnosis of gangrenous cholecystitis is difficult to make prior to surgery,if an early diagnosis can be made and appropriate treatment can be carried out,then even very elderly individuals may be discharged without major complications.

文摘On March 5,“Hushe Centennial Exhibition, cosponsored by China Cultural Center in Tokyo and Beijing Hushe Painting Association, celebrated the grand opening ceremony at China Cultural Center in Tokyo. The predecessor of Beijing Hushe Painting Association is one of the earliest academic organizations in the history of modern Chinese art, that is, Chinese Painting Research Association,which was founded by the famous painter Mr. Jin Beilou in 1919. In the past 100 years, there have been many masters ofcalligraphy and painting in Hushe Painting Association, such as Zhou Zhaoxiang, Chen Shi zeng, Qi Bai shi, Ye Gongchao, Chen Banding, Yu Feian, Pu Ru, Xu Yansun, He Liangpu, Hu Peichong, Qin Zhongwen, Ma Jin, Wang Xuetao, Wu Jiangting and Wang Xuetao, Wu Jiangting and Wang Shensheng who have made great contributions to the development of the Chinese art.
文摘This study evaluated the sources of Zn pollution in Tokyo Bay, Japan, on the basis of δ66Zn in a sediment core. The Zn concentration in sediments in the 1980s-2000s was considerably higher than the background concentration, suggesting that there remain important sources of Zn in the bay. The δ66Zn (+0.51‰) of anthropogenic Zn estimated in the core was significantly higher than those (approximately –0.1‰ - +0.2‰) of treated water from sewage treatment plants and vehicle-related sources. A large number of electroplating plants are located in Tokyo areas. It is assumed that Zn in effluents from electroplating operations is isotopically heavier owing to a negative isotopic effect on Zn electroplating. This tends to support the hypothesis that river bottom sediments, which were contaminated with Zn in the untreated effluents from electroplating plants in the past, are the principal sources of anthropogenic Zn in Tokyo Bay in the 1980s-2000s.
文摘In 2017,the Tokyo Arts Festival invited theatre directors from three geographical locations to direct Shakespeare’s plays:The British director John Caird directed Hamlet,the Romanian director Silviu Purcārete directed Richard III,and the Belgian director Ivo Van Hove directed a Dutch Othello.They approached Shakespeare’s plays from unique perspectives,using their own native or Japanese language,working with Japanese and foreign actors and staff.They were performed in Tokyo and watched by various audiences.This paper examines the interactive effect of international theatre and the Tokyo Arts Festival and argues that Shakespeare,being a common currency in the world,functions as media for the Festival,and vice versa.While the Festival provides opportunities and support for foreign directors and companies,staging of international Shakespeare productions raises the profile of the Festival and promotes artistic and cultural programmes and exchange internationally.The audience also has much to gain:the Festival allows them to experience cultural differences and a reflection of themselves or of the world in works of art.The paper argues that the differences created in the international Shakespearean productions and realized and experienced by the audience are the essence of the theatre and meaning and value of the Festival.
