Revolutionary and evolutionary techniques are encumbered with sophisticated transformations, which weaken the techniques. Power loss minimization is crucial to the efficient design and operation of power transmission lines. Minimization of losses is one way to meet steady grid supply, especially at peak demand. Thus, this paper has presented a gradient technique to obtain optimal variables and values from the power loss model, which efficiently minimizes power losses by modifying the traditional power loss model that combines Ohm and Corona losses. Optimality tests showed that the unmodified model does not support the minimization of power losses on transmission lines as the Hessian matrix portrayed the maximization of power losses. However, the modified model is consistent with the gradient method of optimization, which yielded optimum variables and values from the power loss model developed in this study. The unmodified (modified) models for Bujagali-Kawanda 220 kV and Masaka West-Mbarara North 132 kV transmission lines in Uganda showed maximum power losses of 0.406 (0.391) and 0.452 (0.446) kW/km/phase respectively. These results indicate that the modified model is superior to the unmodified model in minimizing power losses in the transmission lines and should be implemented for the efficient design and operation of power transmission lines within and outside Uganda for the same transmission voltages.展开更多

For this reason, the solution is also applicable to electrically short cables. Such a model has become indispensable because a few months ago, it was experimentally shown that voltage fluctuations in ordinary but electrically short copper lines move at signal velocities that are significantly higher than the speed of light in a vacuum. This finding contradicts the statements of the special theory of relativity but not, as is shown here, the fundamental principles of electrical engineering. Based on the general transfer function of a transmission line, the article shows mathematically that an unterminated, electrically short cable has the characteristics of an ideal delay element, meaning that an input signal appears at the output with a slight delay but remains otherwise unchanged. Even for conventional cables, the time constants can be so small that the corresponding signal velocities can significantly exceed the speed of light in a vacuum. The article also analyses the technical means with which this effect can be conveyed to very long cables.展开更多

This paper compares the dynamic response of a test transmission line with the response due to static loads given by Eurocode. Finite element design software SAP2000 was used to model the towers and lines. Non-linear dynamic analysis including the large displacement effects was carried out. Macroscopic aspects of wind coherence along element length and integration time step were investigated. An approach is presented to compare the probabilistic dynamic response due to 7 different stochastically simulated wind fields with the response according to EN-50341. The developed model will be used to study the response recorded on a test line due to the actual wind speed time history recorded. It was found that static load from EN overestimated the strength of conductor cables. The response of coupled system considering towers and cables was found to be different from response of only cables with fixed supports.展开更多

First order time differential equations are derived for current and charge, thus allowing analysis of transient regimes of the lines being excited by a pulse of arbitrary shape. In particular we examine the propagation characteristics of periodic lines in which identical unit cells are repeated periodically and also discuss the interpretation of positive and negative phase velocities associated with the LC and CL topologies. Loss effects on the propagation bandwidths of both lines are also discussed, and it is shown that in the left-handed transmission line (CL configuration) the phase advance of the crest of the transmitted signal with respect to the source signal is due to the intrinsic dispersive nature of the CL line which, in contrast to the LC line, is highly dispersive at low propagation factors.展开更多

Specifically, the Agrawal model is employed to establish the TL equations to describe the coupling effects of space electromagnetic fields on transmission lines. Then, the excitation fields functioning as distribution sources in TL equations are calculated by the parallel FDTD method through using the message passing interface (MPI) library scheme and interpolation scheme. Finally, the TL equations are discretized by the central difference scheme of FDTD and assigned to multiple processors to obtain the transient responses on the terminal loads of these lines. The significant feature of the presented method is embodied in its parallel and synchronous calculations of the space electromagnetic fields and transient responses on the lines. Numerical simulations of ambient wave acting on multi-conductor transmission lines (MTLs), which are located on the PEC ground and in the shielded cavity respectively, are implemented to verify the accuracy and efficiency of the presented method.展开更多

The structure parameters of CRLH NLTLs, e.g. host transmission line, rectangular spiral inductor, and nonlinear capacitor, have a great impact on the second harmonic performance enhancement in terms of second harmonic frequency, output power, and conversion efficiency. 文摘In power systems, failures of vulnerable lines can trigger large-scale cascading failures, and vulnerability assessment is dedicated to locating these lines and reducing the risks of such failures.Based on a structure and attribute network embedding(SANE)algorithm,a novel quantitative vulnerability analysis method is proposed to identify vulnerable lines in this research.First,a two-layered random walk network with topological and electrical properties of transmission lines is established.Subsequently, based on the weighted degree of nodes in the two-layered network, the inter-layer and intra-layer walking transition probabilities are developed to obtain walk sequences. Then,a Word2Vec algorithm is applied to obtain lowdimension vectors representing transmission lines, according to obtained walk sequences for calculating the vulnerability index of transmissions lines. Finally, the proposed method is compared with three widely used methods in two test systems. Results show the network embedding based method is superior to those comparison methods and can provide guidance for identifying vulnerable lines.

文摘In recent years, several efforts have been made to develop power transmission line abnormal target detection models based on edge devices.Typically, updates to these models rely on participation of the cloud, which means that network resource shortages can lead to update failures, followed by unsatisfactory recognition and detection performance in practical use.To address this problem, this article proposes an edge visual incremental perception framework, based on deep semisupervised learning, for monitoring power transmission lines. After generation of the initial model using a small amount of labeled data, models trained using this framework can update themselves based on unlabeled data.A teacher-student joint training strategy,a data augmentation strategy, and a model updating strategy are also designed and adopted to improve the performance of the models trained with this framework. The proposed framework is then examined with various transmission line datasets with 1%,2%,5%,and 10%labeled data.General performance enhancement is thus confirmed against traditional supervised learning strategies. With the 10%labeled data training set,the recognition accuracy of the model is improved to exceed 80%,meeting the practical needs of power system operation, and thus clearly validating the effectiveness of the framework.

文摘The distributed capacitance of the line becomes larger as the scale of wind farms, the transmission voltage level, and the transmission distance increase.Hence, the error of the traditional time-domain distance protection scheme based on the R-L model, which ignores the distributed capacitance of the line, becomes unacceptable. Therefore, the error of the time-domain fault location method based on the R-L model, especially the maximum error range,is theoretically analyzed in this paper. On this basis,a novel fault location method based on the RL and Bergeron models is proposed. Then,a fast time-domain distance protection scheme is designed. In the proposed scheme, the error in the fitting calculation is used to construct a weight matrix, and an algorithm for solving the time-domain differential equations is designed to improve the calculation speed and stability.Compared with the traditional frequency-domain distance protection scheme, the proposed scheme is independent of the power supply characteristics;thus,it is suitable for wind farm transmission lines. In addition, compared with the traditional method based on the R-L model, the proposed scheme effectively avoids the negative influence of the distributed capacitance of the line, which significantly improves the operating speed.Different types of faults are simulated by PSCAD/EMTDC to verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed scheme.
文摘Smart grid is envisaged as a power grid that is extremely reliable and flexible. The electrical grid has wide-area measuring devices like Phasor measurement units(PMUs)deployed to provide real-time grid information and resolve issues effectively and speedily without compromising system availability. The development and application of machine learning approaches for power system protection and state estimation have been facilitated by the availability of measurement data. This research proposes a transmission line fault detection and classification(FD&C)system based on an auto-encoder neural network.A comparison between a Multi-Layer Extreme Learning Machine(ML-ELM)network model and a Stacked Auto-Encoder neural network(SAE)is made.Additionally, the performance of the models developed is compared to that of state-of-the-art classifier models employing feature datasets acquired by wavelet transform based feature extraction as well as other deep learning models. With substantially shorter testing time, the suggested auto-encoder models detect faults with 100% accuracy and classify faults with 99.92% and 99.79%accuracy.The computational efficiency of the ML-ELM model is demonstrated with high accuracy of classification with training time and testing time less than 50 ms.To emulate real system scenarios the models are developed with datasets with noise with signal-to-noise-ratio(SNR)ranging from 10 dB to 40 dB.The efficacy of the models is demonstrated with data from the IEEE 39 bus test system.

文摘The transmission line tower will be affected by bad weather and artificial subsidence caused by the foundation and other factors in the power transmission. The tower’s tilt and severe deformation will cause the building to collapse. Many small changes caused the tower’s collapse, but the early staff often could not intuitively notice the changes in the tower’s state. In the current tower online monitoring system, terminal equipment often needs to replace batteries frequently due to premature exhaustion of power.According to the need for real-time measurement of power line tower, this research designed a real-time monitoring device monitoring the transmission tower attitude tilting and foundation state based on the inertial sensor, the acceleration of 3 axis inertial sensor and angular velocity raw data to pole average filtering pre-processing,and then through the complementary filtering algorithm for comprehensive calculation of tilt angle, the system meets the demand for inclined online monitoring of power line poles and towers regarding measurement accuracy, with low cost and power consumption. The optimization multi-sensor cooperative detection and correction measured tilt angle result relative accuracy can reach 1.03%,which has specific promotion and application value since the system has the advantages of unattended and efficient calculation.

文摘A distributed online fiber sensing system based on the phase-sensitive optical time domain reflectometer(Φ-OTDR)enhanced by the drawing tower fiber Bragg grating(FBG)array is presented and investigated experimentally for monitoring the galloping of overhead transmission lines. The chirped FBG array enhanced Φ-OTDR sensing system can be used to measure the galloping behavior of the overhead transmission lines(optical phase conductor or optical power ground wire),which are helpful for monitoring the frequency response characteristics of the ice-induced galloping, evaluating the motion tendencies of these cables, and avoiding the risk of flashover during galloping. The feasibility of the proposed online monitoring system is demonstrated through a series of experiments at the Special Optical Fiber Cable Laboratory of State Grid Corporation of China(Beijing,China). Results show that the proposed system is effective and reliable for the monitoring of galloping shape and characteristic frequency, which can predict the trend of destructive vibration behavior and avoid the occurrence of cable breaking and tower toppling accidents, and these features are essential for the safety operation in smart grids.
