Accurate mapping and timely monitoring of urban redevelopment are pivotal for urban studies and decisionmakers to foster sustainable urban development.Traditional mapping methods heavily depend on field surveys and subjective questionnaires, yielding less objective, reliable, and timely data.Recent advancements in Geographic Information Systems(GIS)and remote-sensing technologies have improved the identification and mapping of urban redevelopment through quantitative analysis using satellite-based observations.Nonetheless, challenges persist, particularly concerning accuracy and significant temporal delays. This study introduces a novel approach to modeling urban redevelopment, leveraging machine learning algorithms and remote-sensing data. This methodology can facilitate the accurate and timely identification of urban redevelopment activities. The study’s machine learning model can analyze time-series remote-sensing data to identify spatio-temporal and spectral patterns related to urban redevelopment. The model is thoroughly evaluated, and the results indicate that it can accurately capture the time-series patterns of urban redevelopment. This research’s findings are useful for evaluating urban demographic and economic changes, informing policymaking and urban planning, and contributing to sustainable urban development. The model can also serve as a foundation for future research on early-stage urban redevelopment detection and evaluation of the causes and impacts of urban redevelopment. 展开更多

Guangdong Province started the so-called"three olds redevelopment"in 2009,aiming to advance industrial upgrading.Existing literature points out that appropriate distribution of land rent differential among the stakeholders like urban governments, village collectives, and developers is the most important determinant.Employing the theory of urban regime, the paper focuses on the redevelopment process of the Lianjiao Area in the Pearl River Delta region to reveal how the three entities(government, rural community, and developers)interact. It has been found that the local urban government is the main driver which facilitates the positive accumulation of social capital through the supply of redevelopment policy and fi nancial support.Through the reconstruction of trust of villagers and developers, the government gains the rights to coordinate the redevelopment. As the actual landholder, rural villages represent the profi ts of villagers in bargaining with the other two parties. The improvement in infrastructure and the formulation of detailed redevelopment plans increase the land rent differential, encouraging developers’participation in the redevelopment. The three entities form a negotiation-based development alliance and fi nally lead to successful redevelopment. 展开更多

Residents’concerns and feelings play pivotal roles in smoothly promoting urban redevelopment.Anxiety,as an intuitive feeling toward uncertainties, generally exists among residents who are confronted with redevelopment, and this feeling has gradually attracted scholars’attention. However, relatively few studies have focused on the multidimensional view of this concept and its influencing factors.Drawing upon a large-scale questionnaire survey conducted in 13 pilot areas in China, this study refines and verifies five prominent dimensions of anxiety, namely, housing conditions, monetary compensation, public services, life adaptation, and public participation level, through factor analysis and one-sample/-test.The finding contributes to achieving a complete understanding of anxiety, and the scales developed for measuring these dimensions lay the foundation for further empirical studies on anxiety. The individual and collective effects of age, job, and region variables on anxiety dimensions are demonstrated via independent-sample/-test and analysis of variance, which clarifies the formation process of anxiety and highlights the importance of these contextual variables.Tailored strategies for policymaking and engineering management, including establishing reasonable compensation standards, providing equal public services, and delivering highquality housing, are proposed to relieve residents5 anxiety. These strategies are expected to consider further the sensitive group, such as the elderly, farmers, and casual workers. 展开更多

Through investigating the institutional change and urban development in Shanghai since 1978,this research identifi es that the gradual economic reforms have generated dynamic forces for urban development. As an example, this paper examines Changshoujie in detail to uncover its physical changes and to explore how the actors' roles and interests interplay as well as how the transitional institutions of property rights and urban planning have impacted the shaping of urban space. 117 projects constructed since 1978 are classifi ed into six development modes according to the characteristics of land users and developers. Although there is a time lag,the path depending on institutional change has a direct impact on urban development and the consequent spatial structure. 展开更多

As an important component of city evolution, urban land redevelopment has an impact on transportation system. The current traffic impact analysis (TIA) is lack of a comprehensive component for non-motorized transportation under redevelopment. For a better guidance of land redevelopment and non-motorized transportation planning, it is necessary to evaluate the negative impact of redevelopment on non-motorized traffic in the TIA. In this paper, an evaluation framework for the impact analysis is built up. We organized the pro- cedures and components of impact evaluation, and proposed the corresponding qualitative and quantitative evaluation indicators for non-motorized traffic under redevelopment. Level of service (LOS) and its criterion are employed for external impact evaluation, and level of safety, convenience, independence, and comfort which are four aspects of quality of service (QOS) are proposed to analyze the internal impact. The framework is applied to a redevelopment study in Shanghai, China. The case study results indicate that the rede- velopment from a residential area to a mixed commercial area has a significant impact on non-motorized traffic. The potential negative impact from both external and internal traffic can be minimized by reasonable improvements in the internal land use design. 展开更多
