Study on Bayu Vernacular Architecture and Culture-Baxian-Old-Courtyard

The vernacular architectural culture of the Bayu region is an important part of traditional Chinese architectural culture,of which the old courtyard in Baxian is a typical representative.The purpose of this paper is to explore the connotation and characteristics of Bayu vernacular architectural culture,and to take the old courtyard in Baxian as a specific research object,to analyze its architectural style,cultural connotation,and its value in contemporary society.The study of the old courtyard in Baxian can not only deepen the understanding of Bayu vernacular architectural culture but also provide a useful reference for the protection and inheritance of vernacular architecture.At the same time,this paper also calls for more people to pay attention to and participate in the protection of vernacular architectural culture,and jointly guard these precious historical and cultural heritages.

Inheritance and Development of Cultures of Traditional Vernacular Dwellings in the Townscape Renovation Project of Guangxi,China

By analyzing background and present situation of townscape renovation project in Guangxi, endeavors for inheriting and developing cultures of traditional vernacular dwellings in the implementation of this project are discussed, and characteristics of traditional vernacular dwellings in the study area are summarized. Local vernacular dwellings can be classified in the following 3 ways on the basis of their own regional features:First, classifying by the origin and development history:stilt building, courtyard and non-courtyard building, western-style building; Second, by building materials:bamboo-wood building, stone building, adobe building, earth-stone building, brick-wood building, building of mixed materials; Third, by architectural form:stilt building, courtyard building, non-courtyard building. Stilt wooden building in northern Guangxi is a representative of traditional vernacular dwellings in the study area. By giving mature consideration to inheritance and development of cultures of traditional vernacular dwellings, this study proposes that proper renovation plans should be made according to actual conditions of the planning site; form renovation of vernacular dwellings should be taken as the new trend of renovation; traditional cultures should be further explored, demonstrated and protected. These suggestions are of great instructive significance for improving the cultural taste of townscapes.

Ecological Culture in Traditional Chinese Vernacular Dwellings

Traditional Chinese vernacular dwellings take root in farming culture with profound connotations. Through analyzing ecological thoughts and cultural ideas in traditional vernacular dwellings, this study aims to provide references for the design of modern vernacular dwellings. It is proposed in this study that ① Ecological thoughts of traditional vernacular dwellings include the simple eco-thought of 'human-nature oneness', Fengshui (traditional Chinese ideas hold that the location of a house or tomb is supposed to have an influence on the fortune of a family) theories of 'balance of yin and yang', energy-saving thought of 'making the best use of local advantages'. Traditional vernacular dwellings are mainly constructed according to local conditions, facing the sunny side and water, backing on the shady side and mountains, with local materials and suitable construction structures for local environment and climatic conditions, which enable residents to enjoy warm winter and cool summer, sufficient sunshine, excellent ventilation and heat-proof, wind and humidity proof, that is, a natural ecological living environment. ② Cultural thoughts of traditional vernacular dwellings include the strict and square philosophical ideas as well as harmonious artistic thoughts. Traditional Chinese vernacular dwellings demonstrate morals and ethics by strict and square patterns and strong sense of hierarchy, most of them have definite axes in spatial patterns to show the hierarchy and core of construction groups; abstract patterns of flower, grass, animal or human beings are also often applied in detailed designs, showing esthetic tastes. The formation of traditional Chinese vernacular dwellings has been closely linked with social and cultural factors, living habits, geographical, water and soil, environmental and climatic conditions as well as folk customs, which can provide significant references for the design and reformation of modern new-type vernacular dwellings.

Influence of Confucian and Taoist Cultures on Vernacular Dwellings in Jiaodong Area of China

By analyzing influence of Confucian and Taoist cultures on vernacular dwellings in Jiaodong area,especially the influence of "the doctrine of the mean" on architectural layouts of local dwellings,influence of benevolence and social institutions on the spatial sequence of local dwellings,it was pointed out that Confucian cultures enhanced the hierarchy of spaces,boundaries between internal and external spaces,symmetric layouts and orderly rhythm of courtyards;and meanwhile,the influence of Taoist cultures on the formation of villages in Jiaodong area was also analyzed,the natural philosophy implied in local dwellings was highlighted,such as "Dealing with the nature with natural laws","Going in a natural way","Governing by doing nothing that goes against the nature" and "Respecting natural properties".Based on field investigation of existing vernacular dwellings,common and plain cultural value,realistic significance and sustainability of these dwellings were explored to provide theoretical and practical foundation for the design of new folk houses.

Educational Role of Vernacular Cultures in Landscape Design of Campuses in East,Central and West China

By defining the concept of vernacular cultures,3 basic elements of vernacular cultures were refined according to different demonstration forms,specifically,vernacular materials and things,vernacular cultural context and vernacular sentiments.Nanjing Normal University,Wuhan University and Sichuan Institute of Fine Arts were taken respectively as landscape design representatives of campus in east,central and west China to elaborate application of vernacular cultures in campus landscape design.Finally,development trend of education role of campus landscapes was discussed from the perspectives of"modeling after the nature,building according to users'needs","seeking differences on the basis of maintaining similarities,recording the history and prospecting the future","green and low-carbon,dynamic and sustainable",so as to ensure campus landscapes to develop their educational effects subtly.

Space Image of Traditional Market-Towns in Chengdu Plain from Perspective of Vernacular Culture

Traditional market-towns in Chengdu Plain are blessed with rich vernacular cultural resources. In addition to summarizing characteristics of landscape image, image of downtown street and cultural symbiosis image of the traditional market-town space, this paper, based on the discussion of the renewal design of the Ancient Luodai Town, analyzes the physical elements that constitute the space image, such as the street, interface, area, node and identifiability of landmark building, so as to explore how to create the space image of the traditional market-town with distinctive vernacular cultural characteristics in the construction of the vernacular human settlements.

Cultural interactions among diverse ethnic groups in a frontier region of a mainstream culture:A case study of Thai Korat,Laotian,and Tai Yuan vernacular houses in the central Lamtakong watershed,Nakhon Ratchasima

This study aims to study the conditions for the architectural form of vernacular houses of Thai Korat,Laotian,and Tai Yuan ethnic groups living in the central Lamtakong watershed.Nineteen stilt houses with the age of fifty-three to one hundred years were incorporated in the case study.Data were meticulously gathered through methods such as observation,photography,surveying,architectural drawing,three-dimensional modeling,and interviews.The analysis,conducted within the frameworks of ethnic identity and cultural diffusion,involved morphological and comparative assessments.The findings showed that the houses in the present case study could maintain their ethnic identities as can be clearly seen in the space planning and the shapes of the houses passed down from generation to generation.In addition,there was cultural acceptance among these ethnic groups through exchanging,adopting,and borrowing house construction techniques,in order to express the common traits in the larger social context in a friendly and smoother way.This phenomenon indicates that the co-existence in a multicultural society is the key that makes different ethnic groups be able to maintain their ethnic identity and live with the larger society in a friendly way.Hence,the cultural significance of stilt vernacular houses in the study area is embedded in the dynamic process of exchanging house construction techniques,fostering harmony within the broader social context.This preservation simultaneously safeguards the essential elements and key attributes of ethnic identity in architecture.

Renovation Project of Vernacular Dwellings against the Background of Historical and Cultural Tourism

Taking the renovation project of vernacular dwellings in Chadong Village in Nanlang Town, Zhongshan City for example, historical background of historical and cultural tourism and concrete situation of the project were combined to elaborate the principles, methods and implementation measures of vernacular dwellings in such projects. Renovation projects of vernacular dwellings could protect historical buildings, coordinate regional historical images, and improve the quality of history and culture, so it could be widely applied in historical and cultural tourism of villages and towns.

The Value and Development Modes of Vernacular Aesthetic Education of Urban Agricultural Landscape

Aesthetic education not only exists in the classroom,but also in the urban living environment.The development of this environmental aesthetic education function is often accompanied by the development and change of urban landscape.Urban agricultural landscape is an organic part of modern urban landscape.It is different from machines or buildings in general urban production and life.Its local aesthetic value should be fully recognized and excavated.This is mainly reflected in the beauty of traditional agricultural skills,agricultural landscapes,and agricultural activities.At the same time,according to the different ways of interaction between people and the environment(ways of receiving aesthetic education),the development mode of vernacular aesthetic education of urban agricultural landscape can be divided into three:viewing mode,short-time contact,and long-time immersion.

基于乡土文化传承的乡村景观提升设计——以化州市杨梅村公共空间为例

在乡村振兴、美丽乡村建设的新时代背景下,通过粤西乡村实际项目,总结现状粤西乡村景观治理中存在的问题,梳理历史文脉和文化特质,提出传承文化记忆、重塑地域特色、提升人居环境的设计策略,以乡土文化传承为出发点和落脚点进行景观提升设计,整合乡村景观资源,塑造满足村民需求的新时代乡村公共空间,为乡土景观风貌营建提供思路。

Vocalizing the "Local": Exploring the Cultural Milieu Along Coastal Maharashtra

The return to the study of localized aspects of culture and tradition is unravelling the various layers of a regional cultural milieu in academic study. Following the vein of regional exploration, this paper explores the case of Konkan, along the west coast of India, for the vernacular religious traditions. The mythic hero Parshurama mentioned in the text of Sahyadri Khanda features as a prominent hero along the Konkan coast and numerous places and performative traditions have retained the mythical base of this narrative as a part of local history. Ritual significance of naming certain sites and the connection between temples and other archaeological material sources with a narrative thread form the crux of this discussion on local culture in Konkan. The aspect of orality in the narrative scheme is often overlooked in the study of regional culture, and this exploration makes a case for the interdisciplinary approach of textual sources, ethnographic and oral accounts along with the data pertaining to material culture in such a study. The paper offers an entry point into the examination of religious texts and local performative tradition hinged on narratives of space that have shaped the vernacular culture to this day. This exploration will offer a case-study for an interdisciplinary investigation into local cultures that in turn enrich the knowledge on popular socio-religious currents.

Vernacular Building Heritage in the Eastern Black Sea Region in Turkey

The eastern Black Sea Region, in Turkey, has a significantly authentic characteristic as regards to its rural architecture. The climate, geography, and local living culture in the region have developed an invaluable rural built environment in terms of cultural heritage, Thus, the architectural heritage of the region shows the perfect balance between the nature and human life, there is a need to understand the value of the vernacular architecture heritage in the region, The architecture is a response to functional requirements as well as environmental factors. Indeed, rural architectural of this region is a reflection of the cultural values of the society, behavioural patterns of the people and environmental factors from the past. In this study, the aim is understand and appreciate this heritage through systematic surveying and documentation in eastern Black Sea Region composed from Trabzon, Rize and Artvin Cities. Further aims are the establishment of an architectural typology based on the plan, faqade and site plan, and materials use, with the goal to develop guidelines for new buildings in the region.

赣闽粤边客家传统村落景观区域差异研究

通过对赣闽粤边客家地区传统村落及民居景观进行全域调查、记录、统计和归纳,采用文化地理学主导因子区划方法,以客家传统村落布局形态及民居平面型制为因子进行聚类统计,综合其他相关地理文化因子对赣闽粤边客家地区进行传统村落景观区划,划分出赣闽粤边区西北部堂厢天井式民居文化区、东北部堂横屋文化区、南部围屋文化区及西部排屋文化区共四大文化区(含10个亚区),对各文化区的传统村落及民居景观特征进行概括分析,结合区域的自然地理特征和发展历史背景的剖析,提出赣闽粤边客家传统村落景观区域格局是在自然地理格局提供的空间框架下,由于地区经济文化发展时序差异引起的居住文化差异的映射。

中国乡土文化多尺度空间分布特征及影响因素

推进乡土文化整体性认知是修复我国文化空间基因、实施乡村振兴的重要举措。鉴于此,选取表征乡土文化的名录数据作为研究对象,综合运用数理统计、空间分析、地理探测器(geographic detector,GD)、地理加权回归(geographic weighted regression,GWR)等方法,定量探究乡土文化空间分布格局及其影响因素。结果表明:①乡土文化全国尺度下呈现聚集分布格局,省际分布不均衡特征突出;②乡土文化空间分布上呈现以胡焕庸线为界的“核心-边缘”特征,核心区集聚于长江、黄河流域及东部沿海带;③乡土文化空间分异的经济、社会因素比自然因素解释更强,人的能动性是乡土文化发展的主导力量;④乡土文化空间分异是多种因子复杂耦合作用的结果,经济和社会因子之间交互作用最强;⑤5个最佳作用因子构建的GWR模型能解释乡土文化34.9%的空间分异特征,不同因子在空间上作用强度及方向差异显著。

陇南地区传统聚落地域性特征解析——以白龙江流域三村为例

甘肃陇南位于陕川交界处,该地山崇水湍,多民族语汇下传统聚落呈现出独有的地域性特征。本文以陇南地区白龙江流域张坝村、唐坝村、亚滩村三村为例,使用田野调查法、文献研究法和对比分析,总结出陇南传统聚落在宏观山水层面具有“背负冠山,面环带水”的山水格局,“山地点聚,河谷纵列”的形态特征;在中观聚落层面具有“耕居分势,前田后舍”的空间布局,“河道串联,路网并通”的结构骨架和“文脉共荣,祠庙居高”的公建特点;在微观宅院层面具有“坝院为主,合院为辅”的形制特点,“正厢各秩,檐廊贯续”的单体格局和“土围木架,石雕版饰”的建构特征。本项研究加深了对乡土建筑和地域性景观的理解认知,以期为陇南地区传统聚落的解读传承和保护发展提供参考。
