The mathematical model is derived using conservation and balance laws (CBL) of classical continuum mechanics (CCM), incorporating the contravariant second Piola-Kirchhoff stress tensor, the covariant Green’s strain tensor, and its rates up to order n. This mathematical model permits the study of finite deformation and finite strain compressible deformation physics with an ordered rate dissipation mechanism. Constitutive theories are derived using conjugate pairs in entropy inequality and the representation theorem. The resulting mathematical model is both thermodynamically and mathematically consistent and has closure. The solution of the initial value problems (IVPs) describing evolutions is obtained using a variationally consistent space-time coupled finite element method, derived using space-time residual functional in which the local approximations are in hpk higher-order scalar product spaces. This permits accurate description problem physics over the discretization and also permits precise a posteriori computation of the space-time residual functional, an accurate measure of the accuracy of the computed solution. Model problem studies are presented to demonstrate tensile shock formation, propagation, reflection, and interaction. A unique feature of this research is that tensile shocks can only exist in solid matter, as their existence requires a medium to be elastic (presence of strain), which is only possible in a solid medium. In tensile shock physics, a decrease in the density of the medium caused by tensile waves leads to shock formation ahead of the wave. In contrast, in compressive shocks, an increase in density and the corresponding compressive waves result in the formation of compression shocks behind of the wave. Although these are two similar phenomena, they are inherently different in nature. To our knowledge, this work has not been reported in the published literature.展开更多

Typical microstructure of thixomolded AZ91D is composed of a-Mg and β-Mg17Al12, characterized with aun, aprim and eutectic. Four kinds of aun are classified according to the morphology and generation mechanism, such as spherical (al), irregular (a2), entrapping liquid alloy inside (a3) and entrapping pool inside (a4). The membrane, a key part of the actuator, is centrally attached to a rigid inclusion of the radius a, and then connected to a fixed rigid ring of the radius b. When subject to a pressure and a voltage, the membrane inflates into an out-of-plane shape and undergoes an inhomogeneous large deformation. The governing equations for the large deformation are derived by means of non-equilibrium thermodynamics, and viscoelasticity of the membrane is characterized by a rheological spring-dashpot model. In the simulation, effects of the pressure, the voltage, and design parameters on the electromechanical viscoelastic behaviors of the membrane are investigated. Evolutions of the considered variables and profiles of the deformed membrane are obtained numerically and illustrated graphically. The results show that electromechanical loadings and design parameters significantly influence the electro-viscoelastic behaviors of the membrane. The design parameters can be tailored to improve the performance of the membrane. The approach may provide guidelines in designing and optimizing such DE devices.展开更多

The effects of the addition of 4.5wt.% and 9wt.%Ti B2 on the apparent viscosity and microstructure were investigated. The results showed that adding Ti B2 is effective for optimizing primary α-Al, but compared with the 4.5wt.%Ti B2/7075 composite, the addition of 9wt.%Ti B2 had no further significant refinement role in the 9wt.%Ti B2/7075 composite due to particle aggregation. The viscosities of semi-solid 7075 alloy and Ti B2/7075 composite slurries increased with an increase in solid fraction, but decreased with an increase in shear rate. The viscosity of 4.5wt.% Ti B2/7075 was the lowest among the three samples, and that of 7075 alloy was the highest under the same conditions. The primary α-Al grain size was decreased, and the dendritic grains grew into spherical shapes after shearing. Based on the experimental results, viscosity models of the semi-solid 7075 alloy and 4.5wt.% and 9wt.%Ti B2/7075 composites were formulated. According to the simulation results, the shrinkage porosity of the 4.5wt.%Ti B2/7075 wheel was lower than those of the 7075 alloy and 9wt.%Ti B2/7075 wheels.展开更多

First, eliminating the integral term, a PDE of third_order is obtained. Then, applying the small parameter expansion method, linearized asymptotic governing equation for each order of the small parameter is obtained. Dividing the third_order PDE into an elastic part with known solution, the rest part pertains to viscous effect which is neither a Mathieu equation nor a Hill one. The WKBJ method is still adopted to solve it analytically.展开更多

The results show that the apparent viscosity of semi-solid AZ91D magnesium alloy slurry increases after being isothermally held, but the apparent viscosity quickly falls down to a steady state value after being stirred again and it takes on a sharp shear-thinning behavior. With the same shearing rate and the rest time increasing, the steady apparent viscosity increases because of the agglomeration of the solid particles, and the time required for the slurry to reach the steady state also becomes longer. If the solid fraction increases, it takes longer time for the slurry to reach the steady apparent viscosity with the same shearing rate and the same rest time. If the solid fraction and the rest time are the same, but the shearing rate rises, it takes shorter time for the slurry to reach the steady apparent viscosity and the final steady apparent viscosity also decreases.展开更多

The results show that peak stress mainly depends on grain boundary’s cohesion and instantaneous strain rate sensitivity in the semisolid state, which is similar to that in the solid state. Analyses on microstructures and status of compressive stress of specimen demonstrate that segregation of liquid solid phase is mainly affected by strain rate and deformation temperature. There are mainly two kinds of flow in liquid phase: either from the region with relatively large hydrostatic compressive stress to the region with relatively small hydrostatic compressive stress or from the grain boundaries perpendicular to the compression axis to the grain boundaries with a certain directional angle to the compression direction. Based on the above results, compressive deformation mechanism mainly depends on deformation temperature, strain rate and stress state.展开更多

At low temperatures in offshore environment, waxy crude oils with water could form the crude oil emulsion gel of oil-in-water emulsion. Thus, the waxy crude oil emulsion viscoelastic behavior for deep sea transportation and restarting pipeline safety is particularly important. By means of MASIII HAAKE rheometer which is produced by German company, waxy crude oil emulsion viscoelastic behavior is explored at different volumetric water contents and different shear stresses. By analyzing the rate of change of shear rate in the initial stage, the influence rules of viscoelastic properties were summarized, with the change of volumetric water content and the applied shear stress and based on the experimental results, the law of emulsion is explained from the micro level. It is proposed that brittle fracture exists between wax crystals, and flexible fracture was found in the interaction between water droplets and wax crystals.展开更多

Carbon dioxide displacement has become the most acknowledged and practical method in enhanced oil recovery system. This is because of its oil sweep efficiency and ability to reduce the level of greenhouse gas emission. Nevertheless, it would lead to the organic solid phase deposition, which causes the changes of the wettability and the damages of wellbores and reservoirs. In this study, we used slim tube test and component test to research the dynamic characteristics of displacement process. In addition, the mechanism of porous media blockage was also investigated. Results show that when the displacement pressure closed to the minimum miscibility pressure, reservoir blockage in pore throat could happen. Component test characterizes that during near miscible displacement process, the components of oil sample varied obviously, the variation range of peak component carbon marks fluctuated strongly. Crude oil component differentiation could happen after carbon dioxide fully contacted with oil. Besides, the rapid extraction mechanism of aromatic hydrocarbons played a significant role in this process under such condition. The reason is that the solubility of saturated hydrocarbons to asphaltene and non-hydrocarbons is obviously weaker than aromatic hydrocarbons. Controlling the pressure is considered as an important link to prevent the occurrence of blocking in the carbon dioxide multiphase and multicomponent displacement process.展开更多

文摘The rheological behavior and microstructure of semi-solid AZ91D was studied using a Couette type viscometer. The results show that the apparent viscosity of semi-solid AZ91D increases with the cooling rate increasing when it is continuously cooled and mechanically stirred and the empiric relation of the apparent viscosity with the cooling rate and solid fraction at shearing rate 93.7 s-1 is expressed as η=[0.66-0.63e(-ε/3.01)]e(fa/0.14), and with the shearing rate and solid fraction at cooling rate 4℃/min is shown as η=0.55e(fa/0.11-γ/87.59), as well as the cooling rate and shearing rate have an important effect on the microstructure of the semi-solid AZ91D alloy slurry, and decreasing the cooling rate and increasing the shearing rate are favorable to the nondendritic evolution of the primary grains.

文摘The microstructure and rheological behavior of semi-solid Mg2Si/AM60 magnesium matrix composite at steady state were investigated. The results show that the primary α-Mg phases are knapped by mechanical stirring and the Chinese script type reinforced Mg2Si phases exist in liquid phase and grain boundary. The analysis of apparent viscosity indicates that the apparent viscosity of semi-solid Mg2Si/AM60 magnesium matrix composite at steady state increases with increasing the volume fraction of Mg2Si and solid fraction of primary α-Mg,but decreases with increasing the shearing rate and shearing time, and the apparent viscosity keeps stable when shearing time reaches 300 s.

文摘The time-dependent electro-viscoelastic performance of a circular dielectric elastomer(DE) membrane actuator containing an inclusion is investigated in the context of the nonlinear theory for viscoelastic dielectrics. The approach may provide guidelines in designing and optimizing such DE devices.
文摘We study the Cauchy problem of a one-dimensional nonlinear viscoelastic model with fading memory. By introducing appropriate new variables we convert the integro-partial differential equations into a hyperbolic system of balance laws. When it is a perturbation of a constant state, the solution is shown time asymptotically approach- ing to predetermined diffusion waves, Pointwise estimates on the convergence details are obtained.
文摘In the present study, in-situ Ti B2 particle-reinforced 7075 aluminum alloy was produced by adding a mixture of K2 Ti F6 and KBF4 to the molten base alloy. According to the simulation results, the shrinkage porosity of the 4.5wt.%Ti B2/7075 wheel was lower than those of the 7075 alloy and 9wt.%Ti B2/7075 wheels.
文摘Introducing the nonlinear Rayleigh damping into the governing equation of the Mode Ⅲ dynamic rupture for standard viscoelastic solid, this equation is a partial differential and integral equation. The WKBJ method is still adopted to solve it analytically.
文摘The thixotropic behavior of semi-solid AZ91D slurry was studied through a Couette type viscometer. If the solid fraction and the rest time are the same, but the shearing rate rises, it takes shorter time for the slurry to reach the steady apparent viscosity and the final steady apparent viscosity also decreases.
文摘The mechanical behavior of LC 4 alloy in the semisolid state at high volume fractions of solid has been studied through unconstrictive compressing test. Based on the above results, compressive deformation mechanism mainly depends on deformation temperature, strain rate and stress state.
文摘Emulsion of waxy crude oil is one of the common states in the subsea pipeline. It is proposed that brittle fracture exists between wax crystals, and flexible fracture was found in the interaction between water droplets and wax crystals.
文摘Better dealing with carbon issues can support the management of current greenhouse gas emissions while achieving energy economic diversification and energy security. Controlling the pressure is considered as an important link to prevent the occurrence of blocking in the carbon dioxide multiphase and multicomponent displacement process.
