Accurate and quantitative monitoring of these emissions isessential for a comprehensive understanding of their impact on the Earth’s climate and for effectively enforcingemission regulations at a large scale. This work examines the feasibility of detecting and quantifying industrialsmoke plumes using freely accessible geo-satellite imagery. The existing systemhas so many lagging factors such aslimitations in accuracy, robustness, and efficiency and these factors hinder the effectiveness in supporting timelyresponse to industrial fires. In this work, the utilization of grayscale images is done instead of traditional colorimages for smoke plume detection. The dataset was trained through a ResNet-50 model for classification and aU-Net model for segmentation. The dataset consists of images gathered by European Space Agency’s Sentinel-2 satellite constellation from a selection of industrial sites. The acquired images predominantly capture scenesof industrial locations, some of which exhibit active smoke plume emissions. The performance of the abovementionedtechniques and models is represented by their accuracy and IOU (Intersection-over-Union) metric. The images are first trained on the basic RGB images where their respective classification using the ResNet-50model results in an accuracy of 94.4% and segmentation using the U-Net Model with an IOU metric of 0.5 andaccuracy of 94% which leads to the detection of exact patches where the smoke plume has occurred. This work hastrained the classification model on grayscale images achieving a good increase in accuracy of 96.4%.展开更多

These thresholds can be obtained in various ways, but most often they are based on previous landslide data. This approach introduces several limitations. For instance, there is a requirement for the location to have been previously monitored in some way to have this type of information recorded. Another significant limitation is the need for information regarding the location and timing of incidents. Despite the current ease of obtaining location information (GPS, drone images, etc.), the timing of the event remains challenging to ascertain for a considerable portion of landslide data. Concerning rainfall monitoring, there are multiple ways to consider it, for instance, examining accumulations over various intervals (1 h, 6 h, 24 h, 72 h), as well as in the calculation of effective rainfall, which represents the precipitation that actually infiltrates the soil. However, in the vast majority of cases, both the thresholds and the rain monitoring approach are defined manually and subjectively, relying on the operators’ experience. This makes the process labor-intensive and time-consuming, hindering the establishment of a truly standardized and rapidly scalable methodology on a large scale. In this work, we propose a Landslides Early Warning System (LEWS) based on the concept of rainfall half-life and the determination of thresholds using Cluster Analysis and data inversion. The system is designed to be applied in extensive monitoring networks, such as the one utilized by Cemaden, Brazil’s National Center for Monitoring and Early Warning of Natural Disasters.展开更多

文摘Providing early safety warning for batteries in real-world applications is challenging. In this study, comprehensive thermal abuse experiments are conducted to clarify the multidimensional signal evolution of battery failure under various preload forces. The time-sequence relationship among expansion force, voltage, and temperature during thermal abuse under five categorised stages is revealed.Three characteristic peaks are identified for the expansion force, which correspond to venting, internal short-circuiting,and thermal runaway. In particular,an abnormal expansion force signal can be detected at temperatures as low as 42.4°C,followed by battery thermal runaway in approximately 6.5 min. Moreover, reducing the preload force can improve the effectiveness of the early-warning method via the expansion force.Specifically, reducing the preload force from 6000 to 1000 N prolongs the warning time(i.e.,227 to 398 s)before thermal runaway is triggered.Based on the results,a notable expansion force early-warning method is proposed that can successfully enable early safety warning approximately 375 s ahead of battery thermal runaway and effectively prevent failure propagation with module validation. This study provides a practical reference for the development of timely and accurate early-warning strategies as well as guidance for the design of safer battery systems.

文摘Rockbursts have become a significant hazard in underground mining, underscoring the need for a robust early warning model to ensure safety management. This study presents a novel approach for rockburst prediction, integrating the Mann-Kendall trend test(MKT)and multi-indices fusion to enable real-time and quantitative assessment of rockburst hazards. The methodology employed in this study involves the development of a comprehensive precursory index library for rockbursts. The MKT is then applied to analyze the real-time trend of each index, with adherence to rockburst characterization laws serving as the warning criterion.By employing a confusion matrix, the warning effectiveness of each index is assessed, enabling index preference determination.Ultimately, the integrated rockburst hazard index Q is derived through data fusion. The results demonstrate that the proposed model achieves a warning effectiveness of 0.563 for Q,surpassing the performance of any individual index. Moreover, the model’s adaptability and scalability are enhanced through periodic updates driven by actual field monitoring data, making it suitable for complex underground working environments.By providing an efficient and accurate basis for decision-making,the proposed model holds great potential for the prevention and control of rockbursts. It offers a valuable tool for enhancing safety measures in underground mining operations.

文摘Fire warning is vital to human life, economy and ecology. However, the development of effective warning systems faces great challenges of fast response, adjustable threshold and remote detecting. Here,we propose an intelligent self-powered remote IoT fire warning system,by employing single-walled carbon nanotube/titanium carbide thermoelectric composite films. The flexible films, prepared by a convenient solution mixing, display p-type characteristic with excellent high-temperature stability, flame retardancy and TE(power factor of 239.7±15.8μW m^(-1) K^(-2))performances.The comprehensive morphology and structural analyses shed light on the underlying mechanisms. And the assembled TE devices(TEDs)exhibit fast fire warning with adjustable warning threshold voltages(1–10 mV).Excitingly,an ultrafast fire warning response time of~0.1 s at 1 mV threshold voltage is achieved, rivaling many state-of-the-art systems.Furthermore,TE fire warning systems reveal outstanding stability after 50 repeated cycles and desired durability even undergoing 180 days of air exposure. Finally,a TED-based wireless intelligent fire warning system has been developed by coupling an amplifier,analogto-digital converter and Bluetooth module.By combining TE characteristics,high-temperature stability and flame retardancy with wireless IoT signal transmission,TE-based hybrid system developed here is promising for next-generation self-powered remote IoT fire warning applications.

文摘BACKGROUND:This study aimed to evaluate the discriminatory performance of 11 vital sign-based early warning scores(EWSs)and three shock indices in early sepsis prediction in the emergency department(ED).METHODS:We performed a retrospective study on consecutive adult patients with an infection over 3 months in a public ED in Hong Kong. The primary outcome was sepsis(Sepsis-3 definition)within 48 h of ED presentation.Using c-statistics and the DeLong test,we compared 11 EWSs,including the National Early Warning Score 2(NEWS2),Modified Early Warning Score, and Worthing Physiological Scoring System(WPS),etc.,and three shock indices(the shock index[SI],modified shock index[MSI],and diastolic shock index[DSI]),with Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome(SIRS)and quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment(qSOFA)in predicting the primary outcome, intensive care unit admission, and mortality at different time points.RESULTS:We analyzed 601 patients,of whom 166(27.6%)developed sepsis.NEWS2 had the highest point estimate(area under the receiver operating characteristic curve[AUROC]0.75,95%CI 0.70-0.79)and was significantly better than SIRS,qSOFA,other EWSs and shock indices, except WPS,at predicting the primary outcome. However, the pooled sensitivity and specificity of NEWS2≥5 for the prediction of sepsis were 0.45(95%CI 0.37-0.52)and 0.88(95%CI 0.85-0.91),respectively.The discriminatory performance of all EWSs and shock indices declined when used to predict mortality at a more remote time point.CONCLUSION:NEWS2 compared favorably with other EWSs and shock indices in early sepsis prediction but its low sensitivity at the usual cut-off point requires further modification for sepsis screening.

文摘Microseismic source location is crucial for the early warning of rockburst risks. However, the conventional methods face challenges in terms of the microseismic wave velocity and arrival time accuracy.Intelligent techniques, such as the full convolutional neural network(FCNN),can capture spatial information but struggle with complex microseismic sequence.Combining the FCNN with the long shortterm memory(LSTM)network enables better time-series signal classification by integrating multiscale information and is therefore suitable for waveform location. The LSTM-FCNN model does not require extensive data preprocessing and it simplifies the microseismic source location through feature extraction. In this study,we utilized the LSTM-FCNN as a regression learning model to locate the seismic focus.Initially, the method of short-time-average/long-time-average(STA/LTA)arrival time picking was employed to augment spatiotemporal information.Subsequently, oversampling the on-site data was performed to address the issue of data imbalance, and finally, the performance of LSTM-FCNN was tested.Meanwhile,we compared the LSTM-FCNN model with previous deep-learning models. Our results demonstrated remarkable location capabilities with a mean absolute error(MAE)of only 7.16 m.The model can realize swift training and high accuracy, thereby significantly improving risk warning of rockbursts.

文摘Structural instability in underground engineering, especially in coal-rock structures, poses significant safety risks. Thus, the development of an accurate monitoring method for the health of coal-rock bodies is crucial. The focus of this work is on understanding energy evolution patterns in coal-rock bodies under complex conditions by using shear, splitting, and uniaxial compression tests. We examine the changes in energy parameters during various loading stages and the effects of various failure modes, resulting in an innovative energy dissipation-based health evaluation technique for coal.Key results show that coal bodies go through transitions between strain hardening and softening mechanisms during loading, indicated by fluctuations in elastic energy and dissipation energy density. For tensile failure, the energy profile of coal shows a pattern of “high dissipation and low accumulation” before peak stress. On the other hand, shear failure is described by “high accumulation and low dissipation” in energy trends.Different failure modes correlate with an accelerated increase in the dissipation energy before destabilization, and a significant positive correlation is present between the energy dissipation rate and the stress state of the coal samples.A novel mathematical and statistical approach is developed, establishing a dissipation energy anomaly index,W,which categorizes the structural health of coal into different danger levels. This method provides a quantitative standard for early warning systems and is adaptable for monitoring structural health in complex underground engineering environments, contributing to the development of structural health monitoring technology.
文摘Industrial activities, through the human-induced release of Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, have beenidentified as the primary cause of global warming. This work hastrained the classification model on grayscale images achieving a good increase in accuracy of 96.4%.

文摘Onlineγ-spectrometry systems for inland waters, most of which extract samples in situ and in real time, are able to produce reliable activity concentration measurements for waterborne radionuclides only when they are distributed relatively uniformly and enter into a steady-state diffusion regime in the measurement chamber. To protect residents’health and ensure the safety of the living environment, better timeliness is required for this measurement method. To address this issue, this study established a mathematical model of the online waterγ-spectrometry system so that rapid warning and activity estimates can be obtained for water under non-steady-state(NSS)conditions.In addition, the detection efficiency of the detector for radionuclides during the NSS diffusion process was determined by applying the computational fluid dynamics technique in conjunction with Monte Carlo simulations. On this basis,a method was developed that allowed the online waterγ-spectrometry system to provide rapid warning and activity concentration estimates for radionuclides in water.Subsequent analysis of the NSS-mode measurements of^(40)K radioactive solutions with different activity concentrations determined the optimum warning threshold and measurement time for producing accurate activity concentration estimates for radionuclides. The experimental results show that the proposed NSS measurement method is able to give warning and yield accurate activity concentration estimates for radionuclides 55.42 and 69.42 min after the entry of a 10 Bq/L^(40)K radioactive solution into the measurement chamber, respectively. These times are much shorter than the 90 min required by the conventional measurement method.Furthermore, the NSS measurement method allows the measurement system to give rapid(within approximately 15 min)warning when the activity concentrations of some radionuclides reach their respective limits stipulated in the Guidelines for Drinking-water Quality of the WHO,suggesting that this method considerably enhances the warning capacity of in situ online waterγ-spectrometry systems.

文摘The global incidence of infectious diseases has increased in recent years, posing a significant threat to human health.Hospitals typically serve as frontline institutions for detecting infectious diseases. However, accurately identifying warning signals of infectious diseases in a timely manner, especially emerging infectious diseases, can be challenging.Consequently, there is a pressing need to integrate treatment and disease prevention data to conduct comprehensive analyses aimed at preventing and controlling infectious diseases within hospitals. This paper examines the role of medical data in the early identification of infectious diseases, explores early warning technologies for infectious disease recognition, and assesses monitoring and early warning mechanisms for infectious diseases. We propose that hospitals adopt novel multidimensional early warning technologies to mine and analyze medical data from various systems,in compliance with national strategies to integrate clinical treatment and disease prevention.Furthermore, hospitals should establish institution-specific,clinical-based early warning models for infectious diseases to actively monitor early signals and enhance preparedness for infectious disease prevention and control.

文摘Under single-satellite observation, the parameter estimation of the boost phase of high-precision space noncooperative targets requires prior information. To improve the accuracy without prior information,we propose a parameter estimation model of the boost phase based on trajectory plane parametric cutting. The use of the plane passing through the geo-center and the cutting sequence line of sight(LOS)generates the trajectory-cutting plane. With the coefficient of the trajectory cutting plane directly used as the parameter to be estimated,a motion parameter estimation model in space non-cooperative targets is established, and the Gauss-Newton iteration method is used to solve the flight parameters. The experimental results show that the estimation algorithm proposed in this paper weakly relies on prior information and has higher estimation accuracy, providing a practical new idea and method for the parameter estimation of space non-cooperative targets under single-satellite warning.
文摘[Objectives]To monitor the stability of open-pit coal mine slopes in real time and ensure the safety of coal mine production.[Methods]The automatic monitoring system of coal mine slope was explored in depth, and the core functions of the system were designed comprehensively.According to the design function of the automatic monitoring system, the slope automatic monitoring system was constructed.Besides,in accordance with the actual situation of the slope, the monitoring frequency of slopes was set scientifically, and the key indicators such as rainfall, deep displacement and surface displacement of the slopes were monitored in an all-round and multi-angle way.[Results]During the monitoring period, the overall condition of the slope remained good, and no landslides or other geological disasters occurred. At the same time, the overall rainfall in the slope area remained low.In terms of monitoring data, the horizontal displacement and settlement of the slopes increased first and then tended to be stable.Specifically, the maximum horizontal displacement during the monitoring period was 22.74 mm,while the maximum settlement was 18.65 mm.[Conclusions]The automatic slope monitoring system has obtained remarkable achievements in practical application. It not only improves the accuracy and efficiency of slope stability monitoring, but also provides valuable reference experience for similar projects.
文摘A significant portion of Landslide Early Warning Systems (LEWS) relies on the definition of operational thresholds and the monitoring of cumulative rainfall for alert issuance. The system is designed to be applied in extensive monitoring networks, such as the one utilized by Cemaden, Brazil’s National Center for Monitoring and Early Warning of Natural Disasters.
