A Survey into Teachers＇ Roles in Web-based College English Autonomous Learning

The paper, with the backdrop of web-based autonomous learning put forward by the recent college English teaching reform, aims to explore teachers＇ roles in this learning process in students＇ perception through the means of questionnaires and interviews. It further analyzes the possible reasons why students perceive their teachers＇ roles in such a way, in the hope of providing some implications for web-based college English autonomous learning.

Incorporation of Learning Strategies into Web-based Autonomous Listening

The thesis introduces a comparative study of students'autonomous listening practice in a web-based autonomous learning center and the traditional teacher-dominated listening practice in a traditional language lab.The purpose of the study is to find how students'listening strategies differ in these two approaches and thereby to find which one better facilitates students'listening proficiency.

A Review of the Effectiveness of Web-based Course with College English Learners' Autonomous Learning

The paper is a literature review, aiming to examine the effectiveness of web-based college English learning which mainly focuses on learners' autonomous learning. Previous studies indicate that the web-based learning can improve learners' autonomous learning, as well as some problems found in their findings. Therefore, this paper first gives a summary and critique of research studies on the web-based autonomous learning and some factors influencing learners' autonomous learning ability;then, areas that deserve further study are also indicated.

An Empirical Study on Classroom Learning Anxiety of Secondary Vocational English Learners in Content-based Instruction

This research aims to study the relationship between content-based instruction and secondary vocational English learners.Two classes in one secondary vocational school were chosen as participants.The result shows that CBI teaching has a negative correlation with English learning anxiety and has an impact on alleviating students' anxiety.

On Cognitive Style in English Web-based Autonomous Learning

Since Henry Holec first put forward the term‘Autonomy'in 1980's, autonomous learning has been drawing the universal attention of scholars both at home and abroad. Promoting learners' ability of self-regulated learning has been taken as one of the important goals of modern education. College English autonomous learning based on network environment does not mean free study without any restraints or monitoring, but rather involves the self-monitoring and external monitoring. Meanwhile, different learners may have different cognitive styles in their learning processes, which may have an influence on the improvement of the learners' efficiency in the autonomous language learning. Proper monitoring models coordinating with the students' different field cognitive styles.

An Investigation into the Web-Based Learning in Jiangsu Open University(JSOU)——A case Study of College English

College English is a compulsory course for all registered online learners in Jiangsu Open University and students have been practicing web-based learning instead of face-to-face classes ever since 2014.Questionnaires and interviews are adopted to look into the 4-year-long practice of web-based learning in College English in JSOU.By analyzing the data obtained from both teachers and students,the findings show:(1)web-based learning caters to online learners in that the online learning materials,particularly micro-lessons,are well-designed and easily accessible.(2)web-based learning helps teachers monitor the learning process of online learners and therefore assures the quality of online learning.(3)web-based learning enhances effective learning since students and teachers can communicate conveniently and instantly via online chat rooms and instant messaging software.

LoColms： an innovative approach of enhancing traditional classroom form of education by promoting web-based distance learning in the poorer countries

There have been numerous attempts recently to promote technology based education (Shrestha, 1997) in the poorer third world countries, but so far all these have not provided a sustainable solution as they are either centered and controlled from abroad and relying solely on foreign donors for their sustenance or they are not web-based, which make distribution problematic, and some are not affordable by most of the local population in these places. In this paper we discuss an application, the Local College Learning Management System (LoColms) , which we are developing, that is both sustainable and economical to suit the situation inthese countries. The application is a web-based system, and aims at improving the traditional form of education by empowering the local universities. Its economicability comes from the fact that it is supported by traditional communication technology, the public switching telephone network system, PSTN, which eliminates the need for packet switched or dedicated private virtual networks (PVN) usually required in similar situations. At a later stage, we shall incorporate ontology and paging tools to improve resource sharability and storage optimization in the Proxy Caches (ProCa) and LoColms servers. The system is based on the client/server paradigm and its infrastructure consists of the PSTN, ProCa, with the learning centers accessing the universities by means of point-to-point protocol (PPP) .

Web-based learning in inflammatory bowel diseases:General truths and current specifics

In a field rapidly evolving over the past few years, the management of inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD), Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, is becoming in-creasingly complex, demanding and challenging. In the recent years, IBD quality measures aiming to improve patients' care have been developed, multiple new medical therapies have been approved, new treatment goals have been set with the "treat--to--target" concept and drug monitoring has been implemented into IBD clinical management. Moreover, patients are increasingly using Internet resources to obtain information about their health conditions. The healthcare professional with an interest in treating IBD patients should deal with all these challenges in everyday practice by establishing, enhancing and maintaining a strong core of knowledge and skills related to IBD. This is an ongoing process and traditionally these needs are covered with additional reading of textbook or journal articles, attendance at meetings or conferences, or at local rounds. Web--based learning resources expand the options for knowledge acquisition and save time and costs as well. In the new era of communications technology, web-based resources can cover the educational needs of both patients and healthcare professionals and can contribute to improvement of disease management and patient care. Healthcare professionals can individually visit and navigate regularly relevant websites and tailor choices for educational activities according to their existing needs. They can also provide their patients with a few certified suitable internet resources. In this review, we explored the Internet using PubMed and Startpage(Google), for web-based IBD--related educational resources aiming to provide a guide for those interested in obtaining certified knowledge in this subject.

The Influence of Combining Computer-Assisted Language Learning With Instruction on Chinese College Students’L2 Pragmatic Ability

In the area of computer-assisted language learning(CALL),although a number of studies have adopted various CALL-based devices(e.g.,blogs,gaming,and synthetic environments)to foster second language(L2)acquisition,the vital component of instruction has received little attention.The present study explored the usefulness of CALL-based communication in conjunction with instruction on EFL learners’L2 pragmatic development.Sixty-two EFL students from a university in China were recruited for the current research.The experimental group communicated with a native English speaker through synchronous messaging via Skype and had two instructional sessions pertinent to compliment responses,while the control group interacted with a native English speaker via Skype without having the teaching intervention.Findings from an independent samples t-test demonstrated that the experimental group produced significantly more proper compliment responses in the immediate posttest than the control group(p<.001).Moreover,a significant difference(p<.001)was found for the experimental group between the preintervention and delayed post-intervention mean scores,suggesting that CALL coupled with teaching intervention had a long-term impact on learners’L2 pragmatic development.These findings enrich our understanding of the beneficial and lasting influence of combining CALL with instruction on EFL students’pragmatic development.In addition,pedagogical implications for deploying CALL paired with L2 pragmatics instruction are provided.

The Effects of Integrating Language Learning Strategy into EFL Instruction for Non-English Major Students in Vocational Technical Colleges

Language learning strategies play an important role in language learning. Students in vocational technical colleges have been regarded as low English proficiency learners due to their weak foundation in learning English. To explore the solution, the present study employed a specific survey of language learning strategy use and tried to conduct a one-semester language learning strategy training, aiming to investigate the effects of integrating language learning strategy into EFL instruction for non-English major students in vocational technical colleges. We found after the instruction, the difference in the frequency of overall strategy use between the experimental group and the control group was significant indicating that the students could be trained with language learning strategies to enhance the frequency of their strategy use. After language learning strategy instruction, the experimental group didn＇t perform significantly better than the control group in terms of their English language proficiency. However, the results of this present study still supported this viewpoint that the strategy instruction had positive impacts to some extent if properly conducted, for it had positive effects on enhancing students＇ language learning strategy use.

Developing Learning Strategies: Strategy Instruction

Learning strategies are critical in the process of learning, knowing, and thinking. Without strategies, nobody can reach competence, to master certain knowledge and skills which makes him/her an independent learner. The purose of this paper is trying to demonstrate an overview of leaning strategies based on the researches and studies have been done in the field with emphasis on strategy instruction for increasing reading comprehension and writing instruction.

The Effectiveness of Strategies-based Instruction on Postgraduates' English Vocabulary Learning

This ten-week quasi-experimental study was undertaken to explore the effectiveness of strategies-based vocabulary instruction on English vocabulary learning of postgraduate learners.By the questionnaires and vocabulary tests administered before and after the instruction,the experimental group and the control group were compared to find out whether reading comprehension plus SBI method was more effective than reading only method in postgraduates' English vocabulary learning.

On the Instruction Design of the Course Business English Writing Based on Blended Learning Model

Blended learning based on information technology,emphasizes students’central position and teachers’leading role in teaching and learning.In view of this,the author attempts to apply the model to the instruction of the course Business English Writing.In the instructional design,the author navigates students to enhance the input of sample texts on the basis of webbased autonomous learning and organizes cooperative learning so as to increase students’writing practice,thus improving their research ability and communicative skills.Consequently,the two major problems—deficiency in language input because of limited class hours and lack of interaction owing to the large size of classes can be effectively solved.

Asynchronous and Synchronous Communication in College English Writing in Web-based Learning Environment

In web-based learning environment,College English writing has always been a thorny issue.Here both asynchronous and synchronous communications in college English writing mean the new interactive teaching belief. This paper attempts to do the blending of two in the traditional writing learning and teaching in college English in order to promote a more flexible,efficient and interactive learning environment in accordance with students' interests and needs.

The effect of scaffolding instruction on learning among nursing students in China:a meta-analysis

Objective:To systematically evaluate the influence of scaffolding instruction on the learning effect of nursing students in China.Methods:Through the databases of CNKI,Wanfang,VIP,CBM,PubMed,Cochrane Library,Embase and Web of Science,the randomized controlled trials of scaffolding instruction in nursing field were collected from the establishment of the databases to the publication in March 2022.After literature screening,data extraction and quality evaluation,meta-analysis was performed using RevMan5.3 and Stata16.0 software.Results:Nineteen articles were included,with a total of 2,340 nursing students.Meta-analysis results showed that,compared with the traditional teaching method,the scaffolding instruction was significantly better in nursing students’theoretical examination scores(SMD=1.37,95%CI:1.00 to 1.75,P<0.001),operation skill scores(SMD=1.83,95%CI:1.23 to 2.42,P<0.001),communication ability(SMD=1.51,95%CI:0.70 to 2.32,P=0.0003)and teaching satisfaction(P<0.05).Conclusion:Scaffolding instruction can improve the theoretical and operational scores of nursing students,and it also has a positive impact on communication ability and teaching satisfaction.This teaching method deserves to be applied and promoted in the field of nursing education.

A Study on the Instructional Design of Interdisciplinary Thematic Learning in Middle School Physical Education Based on the CASES-T Model

With the deepening of educational reform,interdisciplinary thematic learning,as an emerging educational model,has become a focus of attention in the field of educational research.Based on the STEM(science,technology,engineering,and mathematics)education concept and CASES-T(Content,Activity,Situation,Evaluation,Strategy-Target)model,this study provides a theoretical basis for the teaching design and implementation of interdisciplinary thematic learning in middle school physical education.Through the analysis of specific interdisciplinary thematic learning cases,it aims to provide theoretical support and practical guidance for the reform of middle school physical education through the CASES-T model-based interdisciplinary thematic teaching design research in middle school physical education,in order to enhance students’learning effects,cultivate core literacy in physical education,and promote students’all-round development.

Discuss Optimal Approaches to Learning Strategy Instruction for EFL Learners

Numerous research studies reveal that learning strategies have played an important role in language learning processes. This paper explores as English teachers,can we improve students' language proficiency by giving them optimal learning strategy instruction and what approaches are most effective and efficient?

M-learning结合CBL在消化科规培教学中的探讨及应用

目的探究移动学习平台(M-learning,ML)结合案例教学(Case-based Learning,CBL)在消化科住院医师规范化培训(简称规培)教学中的应用效果。方法选取2021年1月—2023年1月于上海市徐汇区中心医院消化科参加规培学习的80名医师作为研究对象,将其按照随机数表法分为研究组和对照组,每组40名。对照组给予传统讲授式教学法,研究组给予M-learning结合CBL教学法,对比两组医师的理论考试成绩、实践技能考试成绩和学习满意度。结果研究组的理论成绩和实践技能考试成绩均高于对照组,差异具有统计学意义(P均<0.05);研究组的学习满意度明显高于对照组,差异具有统计学意义(P<0.05)。结论将Mlearning结合CBL教学法应用于消化科规培教学中,不仅能够提升医师的理论考试成绩和实践技能考试成绩,还能够有效提高医师学习满意度。
