The Chinese obsolete electric and electronic equipments (EEE) recycling and disposal system on the point of view of legislation, education and dissemination were discussed, because of the highly increasing volume of e...The Chinese obsolete electric and electronic equipments (EEE) recycling and disposal system on the point of view of legislation, education and dissemination were discussed, because of the highly increasing volume of electric and electronic products and that of its obsoletes today in China. The legislations and responsibilities of go- vernment, industry and consumer were discussed based on the balance of benefit and responsibility depending on the realization of their benefits in the whole life cycle of products and its status in the whole value chain. Not only the legislation and establishment of the so called “compulsory discarding system” will be a possible and effective solution to the difficulty of the obsolete collection and recycling for obsolete electric and electronic reclaiming industry, but also the education and dissemination. Education and dissemination were discussed as an important role which will emphasize the adjusting of policy and law on the development of electric and electronic industry production and its reclaiming. The education of stockholders’ environmental responsibility and the advocating of responsibility sharing should be implement for industry and consumer. Chinese EEE industry should emphasize the control of natural source, and should implement the environmental benign design in their production, such as design for dismantling, no dismantling, thermal treatment and green design. The perspectives for the way to advocate a harmonic society for Chinese people were described.展开更多

Based on the real...Web-based education has been enjoying greater popularity because of its undeniable advantages. It has been seen as a panacea by more and more people in educational field, including language teaching. Based on the realization of the great potential brought by the development of technology, some viewpoints about the relationship among technology, teaching and pedagogy are put forward: firstly, technology is a tool, not a strategy; secondly, pedagogical concerns and theory should drive the way technology is used in education, not the other way around; thirdly, what matters more than technology is how the technology is used for learning, and how it is integrated into the daily classroom scheme so that active engagement in acquisition-oriented work take place; and finally, the change of learning environment inevitably calls for parallel changes in teaching and learning procedures. Available technologies can greatly enhance both student-teacher and student-student interaction and can afford students increased opportunities for self directed learning. To be most effective, technology must be used to support well-planned curricular goals and should involve carefully designed activities providing students with meaningful educational experiences.展开更多

In the...In a field rapidly evolving over the past few years, the management of inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD), Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, is becoming in-creasingly complex, demanding and challenging. In the recent years, IBD quality measures aiming to improve patients' care have been developed, multiple new medical therapies have been approved, new treatment goals have been set with the "treat--to--target" concept and drug monitoring has been implemented into IBD clinical management. Moreover, patients are increasingly using Internet resources to obtain information about their health conditions. The healthcare professional with an interest in treating IBD patients should deal with all these challenges in everyday practice by establishing, enhancing and maintaining a strong core of knowledge and skills related to IBD. This is an ongoing process and traditionally these needs are covered with additional reading of textbook or journal articles, attendance at meetings or conferences, or at local rounds. Web--based learning resources expand the options for knowledge acquisition and save time and costs as well. In the new era of communications technology, web-based resources can cover the educational needs of both patients and healthcare professionals and can contribute to improvement of disease management and patient care. Healthcare professionals can individually visit and navigate regularly relevant websites and tailor choices for educational activities according to their existing needs. They can also provide their patients with a few certified suitable internet resources. This survey study aims to investigate the perceptions learners have of the character-learning strategies they employ when taking a web-based course in Chinese.The seven Likert-scale statements are included in the ques...This survey study aims to investigate the perceptions learners have of the character-learning strategies they employ when taking a web-based course in Chinese.The seven Likert-scale statements are included in the questionnaire to examine learners’opinions on the three character-learning strategies that are widely used in traditional campus courses.A total of 65 students who completed the beginner level‘Chinese Characters’web-based course at a university in Sweden completed the survey.The results suggest that students in web-based courses consider these three strategies to be just as helpful and effective as campus students;moreover,the more orthodox strategy-rote learning-is found to be the most popular among distance students.Furthermore,findings of this study provide insight into the limitations and advantages associated with a web-based course,and also the possible effect learners’age and gender may have on learning strategy preferences.展开更多

The United States has taken initial steps toward developing a high speed rail(HSR)network,but the domestic workforce experience and institutional knowledge necessary for the planning,design,construction,and operations...The United States has taken initial steps toward developing a high speed rail(HSR)network,but the domestic workforce experience and institutional knowledge necessary for the planning,design,construction,and operations of HSR is underdeveloped.This paper describes and provides preliminary assessment of the High Speed Rail Learning System(HSRLS),a demonstration project that seeks to address gaps in HSR knowledge and skills in the US.The HSRLS developers designed an online education system to serve as a clearinghouse for railrelated information and content,connect teachers,trainers,and students at pre-,and postgraduate levels,and to collect demographic and professional information on groups and individuals interested in HSR.The paper explores the technology review,selection process,and content developed.Website visits and demographic information from over 4,000 unique individuals and 600 HSRLS course registrations are analyzed and assessed.展开更多
