BACKGROUND Wernicke encephalopathy is a neurological disorder caused by thiamine deficiency,commonly seen in alcoholic populations but also involving other circumstances that may lead to thiamine deficiency.The recogn...BACKGROUND Wernicke encephalopathy is a neurological disorder caused by thiamine deficiency,commonly seen in alcoholic populations but also involving other circumstances that may lead to thiamine deficiency.The recognition of Wernicke encephalopathy often depends on clinicians’keen ability to detect its typical triad of features;however,most cases do not present with the full constellation of signs,which complicates the timely identification of Wernicke encephalopathy.CASE SUMMARY This case report describes a patient with nasopharyngeal carcinoma who developed abnormal ocular function and ataxia following concurrent chemoradiotherapy,without a history of alcohol abuse.With the aid of radiological examinations,he received a timely diagnosis and treatment;however,his symptoms did not fully resolve during follow-up.CONCLUSION For patients with malignant tumors exhibiting neurological symptoms,clinicians should consider the possibility of Wernicke encephalopathy and provide prophylactic thiamine therapy.展开更多
Data on discrete,isolated attributes of the marine economy are often used in traditional marine economic research.However,as the focus of urban research shifts from internal static attributes to external dynamic linka...Data on discrete,isolated attributes of the marine economy are often used in traditional marine economic research.However,as the focus of urban research shifts from internal static attributes to external dynamic linkages,the importance of marine economic net-work research is beginning to emerge.The construction of the marine economic network in China’s coastal areas is necessary to change the flow of land and sea resources and optimize regional marine economic development.Employing data from headquarters and branches of sea-related A-share listed enterprises to construct the marine economic network in China,we use social network analysis(SNA)to discuss the characteristics of its evolution as of 2010,2015,and 2020 and its governance.The following results were obtained.1)In terms of topological characteristics,the scale of the marine economic network in China’s coastal areas has accelerated and expan-ded,and the connections have become increasingly close;thus,this development has complex network characteristics.2)In terms of spatial structure,the intensity of the connection fluctuates and does not form stable development support;the group structure gradually becomes clear,but the overall pattern is fragmented;there are spatial differences in marine economic agglomeration radiation;the radi-ation effect of the eastern marine economic circle is obvious;and the polarization effect of northern and southern marine economic circles is significant.On this basis,we construct a framework for the governance of a marine economic network with the market,the government,and industry as the three governing bodies.By clarifying the driving factors and building objectives of marine economic network construction,this study aims to foster the high-quality development of China’s marine economy.展开更多

Three patients were alcoholics and 4 patients were non-alcoholics. MR protocol included a T2-weighted sequence, a fluid attenuation inversion recovery (FLAIR) sequence, a diffusion-weighted sequence (b = 0 and 1000 s/mm<sup>2</sup>), and a contrast-enhanced MR sequence. All MR images were retrospectively reviewed at baseline and follow-up by two radiologists.RESULTSAll patients with Wernicke’s encephalopathy had bilateral areas showing high signal intensity on both T2-weighted and FLAIR MR images in the typical sites (i.e., the periaqueductal region and the tectal plate). Signal intensity abnormalities in the atypical sites (i.e., the cerebellum and the cerebellar vermis) were seen in 4 patients, all of which had no history of alcohol abuse. Six patients had areas with restricted diffusion in the typical and atypical sites. Four patients had areas showing contrast-enhancement in the typical and atypical sites. Follow-up MR imaging within 6 mo after therapy (intravenous administration of thiamine) was performed in 4 patients, and demonstrated a complete resolution of all the signal intensities abnormalities previously seen in all patients.CONCLUSIONMR imaging is valuable in the diagnosis of Wernicke’s encephalopathy particularly in patients presenting with atypical clinical symptoms, or with no history of alcohol abuse.展开更多

Counting and isolation were carried out on Mossel and TSB media enriched with petrole...This study aimed to the molecular identification of isolated bacteria from the soils of Likouala (Congo-Brazzaville) peat bog area. Counting and isolation were carried out on Mossel and TSB media enriched with petroleum and vegetable oil;the amplification and sequencing of 16S RNA genes by PCR and Artic Oxford Nanopore Technology. The results showed bacterial loads of (5.81 ± 1.08) × 10<sup>4</sup>;(6.64 ± 1.94) × 10<sup>4</sup> et (8.56 ± 1.19) × 10<sup>3</sup> CFU/g on Mossel respectively for samples 1, 2 and 3 against (2.12 ± 4.1) × 10<sup>8</sup> et (8.15 ± 10.1) × 10<sup>7</sup> CFU/g respectively on TSB enriched with petroleum and vegetable oil exclusively with sample 2. The analysis of the 16S rRNA of the isolates gene made it possible, after PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis, sequencing and bioinformatics analysis, to identify eight (08) strains with similarities of 99 to 100% whose sequences genes placed in GenBank have made it possible to obtain accession numbers corresponding to: Bacillus thuringiensis strain (ON303633);Bacillus cereus strain (ON350770);Bacillus thuringiensis strain (ON350771);Bacillus thuringiensis strain (ON738723);Priestia megaterium strain (ON738719);Bacillus anthracis strain (ON738720);Bacillus subtilis (ON738721);Enterobacter sp (ON738722). [Method] The correlation between leaf area and leaf's eigenvalue of E. urophylla and E. grandis×E.urophylla were studied. [Result] There was certain difference in leaf characteristics values between the 2 species. The leaf areas of E. urophylla and E. grandis×E.urophylla both had significant correlation with leaf length,leaf width,leaf perimeter,leaf length × leaf width,the ratio of leaf length to leaf width,shape factor,etc.,so the factors could be constructed into a regression model with leaf area. Among them,the best 2 models for leaf area calculation which were built by leaf length × leaf width of E. urophylla and E. grandis×E.urophylla both had relatively high accuracy and practical applications. [Conclusion] The research provides a simple and effective leaf area measurement method for studies on the 2 tree species.展开更多
