The feature and the geometry of airborne ground moving target tracking systems are studied at first. Based on this feature, the assignment relation of time-nearby target is calculated via Mahalanobis distance, and then the corresponding transformation formula is deduced. The Internet of Things(IoT)has enabled various intelligent services,and IoT service range has been steadily extended through long range wide area communication technologies,which enable very long distance wireless data transmission.End-nodes are connected to a gateway with a single hop.They consume very low-power,using very low data rate to deliver data.Since long transmission time is consequently needed for each data packet transmission in long range wide area networks,data transmission should be efficiently performed.Therefore,this paper proposes a multicast uplink data transmission mechanism particularly for bad network conditions.Transmission delay will be increased if only retransmissions are used under bad network conditions.However,employing multicast techniques in bad network conditions can significantly increase packet delivery rate.Thus,retransmission can be reduced and hence transmission efficiency increased.Therefore,the proposed method adopts multicast uplink after network condition prediction.To predict network conditions,the proposed method uses a deep neural network algorithm.The proposed method performance was verified by comparison with uplink unicast transmission only,confirming significantly improved performance. 展开更多

Wide area damping controller(WADC) is usually utilized to damp interarea low frequency oscillation in power system. However, conventional WADC design method neglects the influence of signal transmission delay and damping performance of WADC designed by the conventional method may deteriorate or even has no effect when signal transmission delay is beyond delay margin, an index that denotes delay endurance degree of power system. Therefore, a new design method for WADC under the condition of expected damping factor and required signal transmission delay is presented in this work. An improved delay margin with less conservatism is derived by adopting a new Lyapunov-Krasovskii function and more compact bounding technique on the derivative of Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional. The improved delay margin, which constructs the correlation of damping factor and signal transmission delay, can be used to design WADC. WADC designed by the proposed method can ensure that power system satisfies expected damping factor when WADC input signal is delayed within delay margin. Satisfactory test results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. 展开更多

In wide area backup protection of electric power systems, the prerequisite of protection device's accurate, fast and reliable performance is its corresponding fault type and fault location can be discriminated quickly and defined exactly. In our study, global information will be introduced into the backup protection system. By analyzing and computing real-time PMU measurements, basing on cluster analysis theory, we are using mainly hierarchical cluster analysis to search after the statistical laws of electrical quantities' marked changes. Then we carry out fast and exact detection of fault components and fault sections, and finally accomplish fault isolation. The facts show that the fault detection of fault component (fault section) can be performed successfully by hierarchical cluster analysis and calculation. The results of hierarchical cluster analysis are accurate and reliable, and the dendrograms of hierarchical cluster analysis are in intuition. 展开更多

This paper firstly reviews the recent development in power system protection and control, with special attention paid to the wide-area and integrated protection, in order to look into future development of integration of protection and control for smart grids. This paper mainly reports on the development of integrated wide area protection and control for power systems. The concept of integrated wide area protection and control is introduced, in which a hierarchical protection and control system provides the protection and control of wide area or regional power substations/ plants and their associated power network. The system is mainly divided into three levels, the local, the substation/plant and the wide area/regional protection and control. The integrated functions at each level are described in details with an aim to develop an optimal coordination mechanism between the levels. One of the core elements in the system is the synchronised wide area communication network between the substations and the protection and control system, in which latest communication technology is employed. Another important player in the system is the wide area synchronized protection and control information platform, which not only enables the fusion three line of defence for power system protection and control, but also provides a perfect tool for the application of cloud computing to substations and power networks. 展开更多

According to interactive user services scenarios and energy operations intelligent monitoring, we propose multimode communication integration architecture for wide area electric vehicle energy service network by means of the fusion of the Internet of Things (IoT) technology. Then, we design different networking schemes in access networks and backbone transmission networks meeting multi-scene and multi-operation interaction requirements. Wide Area Power System is made up of plentiful automated transmission and distribution systems with strong communication infrastructure, all operating in a coordinated, proficient and reliable mode. This paper is fretful with the wide area power system load protection scheme and ensuing design requirement that enhances stability as well as control. It discusses the architecture that upgrades the existing scheme by controlling all the control signals traffic between generating units, server, connected loads, and protection devices using WIMAX. The main theme of the paper is on the use of information technology to obtain more flexibility and smartness in the Wide Area Power System Load Protection by designing the Communication channel using WIMAX. Faults detected in Local area networks and Information regarding the faults of Local Areas is communicated to Load Area Manager (LAM) which takes required control action to handle it. Finally the paper shows islanding operation through WAM for the areas that becomes intensive faulty. Results have been verified in MATLAB/ SIMULIMK. 展开更多

These issues, as well as the on-going worldwide trend towards deregulation of the entire industry on the one hand and the increased need for accurate and better network monitoring on the other hand, force power utilities exposed to this pressure to demand new solutions for wide area monitoring, protection and control. Wide-area monitoring, protection, and control require communicating the specific-node information to a remote station but all information should be time synchronized so that to neutralize the time difference between information. It gives a complete simultaneous snap shot of the power system. The conventional system is not able to satisfy the time-synchronized requirement of power system. Integration of renewable energy sources(RES)with a conventional power system has a detrimental effect on interarea oscillation.Most popular RESs are solar photovoltaic(PV)and wind energy conversion systems(WECS).Both solar PV power generation and WECS are integrated with power systems using a power electronic converter.Increasing the amount of RES generation lead towards reduction of system damping,which leads towards inter-area oscillation.Also,the intermittent behavior of a RES reduces the effectiveness of damping controllers.A dynamic controller based wide area damping controller(WADC)is proposed in this paper to increase small signal stability of a RES integrated power system.The WADC is designed for contemplating delay in a communication channel,communication failure and saturation.An anti-windup compensator is developed to overcome the effect of actuator saturation.However,the gain of the anti-windup compensator is calculated using LyapunovKrasovskii functional(LKF)in terms of linear matrix inequality(LMI).The actuator considered in this paper is a unified power flow controller(UPFC).Efficacy of PV and wind power integration on power system is also observed.The efficacy of the developed dynamic controller is verified using IEEE 39 bus and 68 bus power system. 展开更多

This methods include... Wide area monitoring(WAM) offers many opportunities to improve the performance of power system protection. This paper presents some of these opportunities and the motivation for their development. This methods include monitoring the suitability of relay characteristics,supervisory control of backup protection, more adaptive and intelligent system protection and the creation of novel system integrity protection scheme. The speed of response required for primary protection means that the role WAM in enhancing protection is limited to backup and system protection. The opportunities offered by WAM for enhancing protection are attractive because of the emerging challenges faced by the modern power system protection. The increasingly variable operating conditions of power systems are making it ever more difficult to select relay characteristics that will be a suitable compromise for all loading conditions and contingencies. The maloperation of relays has contributed to the inception and evolution of 70 % of blackouts,thus the supervision of the backup protection may prove a valuable tool for preventing or limiting the scale of blackouts. The increasing interconnection and complexity of modern power systems has made them more vulnerable to wide area disturbances and this has contributed to several recent blackouts. The proper management of these wide area disturbances is beyond the scope of most of the existing protection and new, adaptive system integrity protection schemes are needed to protect power system security. 展开更多

In particular, fault detection, fault classification and fault area estimation are essential to reduce the damage of faults, and even prevent catastrophic cascades of failures. In this paper, we present a scheme for fault area estimation using PMUs and traveling wave theory. The purpose of this paper is to formulate a scheme for fault area estimation by calculating the approximate fault location based on traveling wave theory.This research has targeted at reliable operation of wide transmission system through the estimation of fault area.To verify the suggested scheme, the various simulations are performed in practical Korean power transmission system.The simulation results show that the proposed scheme has a good performance with high accuracy for estimating fault area. 展开更多

The traditional“three defense lines”for power systems are based on local information and static protection&control strategy,which are not suitable to modern large-scale power systems.In order to improve the security of UHV hybrid power grids,the Integrated Wide Area Protection&Control(IWAPC)is proposed in this paper by applying the new technologies of synchronized high-speed communication,which integrates“three defense lines”and promotes existing wide area protection only for security control.The IWAPC is the hierarchical protection and control system which provides the protection and control for wide area power networks to improve their reliability and security.It is divided into three levels,the local bay level,the substation integrated protection level and the wide area protection level.The wide area real-time protection and control information platform is the most important part of the IWAPC,which is based on a synchronized wide area communication network.The key technologies and new development trends include network topology analysis,wide area backup protection,wide area intelligent reclosing,wide area load shedding,wide area auto-switching,overload cutoff and transfer,transmission section protection,intelligent system splitting and dynamic stability control.It cannot only integrate three lines of defense for power system protection and control,but also improve security of the power grid. 展开更多

This paper presents a novel composite wide area control of a DFIG wind energy system which combines the Robust Exact Differentiator(RED)and Discontinuous Integral(DI)control to damp out inter-area oscillations.RED generates the real-time differentiation of a relative speed signal in a noisy environment while DI control,an extension to a twisting algorithm and PID control,develops a continuous control signal and hence reduces chattering.The proposed control is robust to disturbances and can enhance the overall stability of the system.The proposed composite sliding mode control is evaluated using a modified benchmark two-area power system model with wind energy integration.Simulation results under various operating scenarios show the efficacy of the proposed approach. 展开更多

The creation of a suitable wide area monitoring system(WAMS) is widely recognized as an essential aspect of delivering a power system that will be secure,efficient and sustainable for the foreseeable future. In Great Britain(GB), the deployment of the first WAMS to monitor the entire power system in real time was the responsibility of the visualization of real time system dynamics using enhanced monitoring(VISOR) project. The core scope of the VISOR project is to deploy this WAMS and demonstrate how WAMS applications can in the near term provide system operators and planners with clear, actionable information. This paper presents the wider scope of the VISOR project and the GB wide WAMS that has been deployed. Furthermore, the paper describes some of the WAMS applications that have been deployed and provides examples of the measurement device performance issues that have been encountered during the project. 展开更多

The wide area precise positioning system(WAPPS)is a high-precision positioning system based on a global navigation satellite system.Using a GEO satellite or a communication network,it provides users,in its service area,with real-time satellite orbit,clock,and other corrections.Users can achieve centimeter-level static positioning or decimeter-level kinematic positioning by precise point positioning.With the demands for applications of both high-precision and safety of life in real time,WAPPS is facing urgent needs to improve its service integrity.This study presents a real-time integrity monitoring approach for WAPPS.Using dual-frequency ionosphere-free corrections of GPS and BDS,along with monitor station data,related error models are established and the integrity monitoring is achieved,based on the analysis of satellite corrected residuals.In addition,satellite faults are simulated for performance verification.The results show that the algorithm can monitor both step and drift faults effectively and alert users in time. 展开更多

The operation mode of power grids with intermittent distributed generations(DGs)changes frequently due to the bidirectional power flow.In comparison with the conventional grids,the protection relays in power grids with micro-sources are more difficult to set.To tackle this problem,this paper proposes an extended bus differential protection(EBDP)strategy based on the limited wide area(LWA).In this method,the micro-grids are divided into several protection areas at the core of the bus.The whole protection areas are protected by the wide area current differential relays,which are also configured to protect each component in this protection area.Moreover,the protection areas can be changed adaptively according to the power flow direction.Finally,a micro-grid model with multiple DGs is developed using the PSCAD/EMTDC platform.The simulation results indicate that the proposed adaptive limited wide area differential protection(LWADP)has better performance than the traditional relaying protection in detecting the faulty area in micro-grids and isolating the fault,and can be widely utilized in larger micro-grids. 展开更多
