Methods: In this study, 15 healthy subjects were enrolled. All participants suffered two kinds of functional magnetic resonance imaging(f MRI) examinations randomly: Examination A received electro-acupuncture(EA) at the bilateral Tongli(HT5) and Xuanzhong(GB 39) acupoints(ACU), and examination B received EA at bilateral non-acupoints(NAP). The subjects reported the feeling of Deqi at each examination later respectively. A multi-voxel pattern analysis method and Statistical Program for Social Sciences were used to analyze the data. Results: The ACU group(Exam A) reported fullness, heaviness, numbness, soreness and throbbing of significantly greater intensity than the NAP group(Exam B). In addition, there was no statistical significance between two groups in aching, tingling, deep pressure, sharp pain, dull pain, warmness and cold. Meanwhile, f MRI data revealed differences between two groups in discriminating accuracy of brain somatosensory cortex and language-related cortices. Conclusion: Needling HT 5 and GB 39 may modulate language function through a complex brain network, suggesting that it may be beneficial to the recovery of language function in patients with aphasia.展开更多

Methods: Eighty patients with acute cerebral infarction were randomly divided into a treatment group of 40 cases and a control group of 40 cases. Xuanzhong(GB 39)-throughSanyinjiao(SP 6) acupuncture was performed as a main treatment. The curative effects were compared between the two groups and the sizes of cerebral infarct, between pretreatment and posttreatment after one course of treatment. Results. The total recovery rate was 88.5% in the treatment group and 57.5% in the control group after one course of treatment. There was a significant difference between the two(P〈 0.05). The rate of change in the infarct for the better was significantly higher in the treatment group than in the control group. There was also a significant difference(P〈 0.05), Conclusion: This treatment is an effective method for lowering the rate of apoplectic disability and raising the cure rate,展开更多

In the present study, two formulations of moxa cone moxibustion were applied at acupoints Zusanfi (ST 36) and Xuanzhong (GB 39), and at acupoints Baihui (DU 20) and Guanyuan (RN 4), in D-galactose-induced senile mice. The results revealed that moxa cone moxibustion improved total superoxide dismutase and Cu/Zn-superoxide dismutase activity in the homogenates of the cerebral tissue, as well as ameliorating deficits in neuronal morphology and neuronal density in the cerebral cortex and hippocampal CA3. Moxa cone moxibustion also enhanced learning and memory functions of senile mice. Moxa cone moxibustion at Zusanli, Xuanzhong, Baihuiand Guanyuan acupoints can thus be used to complement free radical scavengers, with efficacy that is equal to that of electroacupuncture at Zusanliand Xuanzhong, and superior to that of nimodipine treatment.展开更多

Methods: All the appropriate cases were randomly divided into treatment and control groups with 80 cases in each group. The routine treatment of cerebral apoplexy was given to the two groups. Zusanli (ST 36) and Xuanzhong (GB 39) were added to the treatment group. The change of velocity of blood blow of the cerebral central artery was observed by transfrontal Doppler ultrasound detecting method before and after treatment to evaluate the cerebral basomotoricity of the patients. Results: The cerebral vasomotoricity in the treatment group was greatly improved compared with pre-treatment (P〈0.05) and there was a significant difference compared with the control group (P〈0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture at Zusanli (ST 36) and Xuanzhong (GB 39) could obviously improve the cerebral vosomotoricity of the patients with cerebral ischemic stroke, which might be one of the action mechanisms of acupuncture treatment for cerebral ischemic stroke.展开更多
