Continuity and Change in Dao Yin:Comparing and Contrasting the Therapeutic Exercises in Yin Shu(The Book of Pulling,c.2nd Century BCE)and Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun(Treatise on the Origins and Manifestations of Various Diseases,610 CE)

The manuscript Yin Shu(The Book of Pulling),excavated from Zhangjiashan Han Tomb No.247,is the earliest surviving text on therapeutic exercise known as Dao Yin(lit.guiding and pulling).Discovered in 1983,this Dao Yin text,together with the drawings of 44 figures performing“guiding and pulling”exercises found in the Mawangdui Han Tomb in 1974,are of great significance to the study of the early history of Dao Yin.Prior to these discoveries,researchers into Dao Yin relied mainly on material found in the Dao Zang(the Daoist Canon),compiled in 1145.This led to their conclusion that Dao Yin was essentially Daoist.The development of Dao Yin reached its zenith during the Sui Dynasty(581–618 CE),when it became one of the three medical departments at the imperial medical education institution.As part of the medical reform of the second Sui Emperor,Yang Di,Dao Yin became the treatment of choice,and the employment of a large number of Dao Yin specialists to the Sui court transformed the state medical service.The compilation of Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun(Treatise on the Origins and Manifestations of Various Diseases)under Yang Di’s decree,incorporated an abundance of resources on Dao Yin,enabling physicians to potentially“prescribe”Dao Yin to their patients.Situating both Yin Shu and Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun in their social and historical contexts,this article analyses their editorial treatments,examines their different objectives,styles,and readerships,and compares the various exercises described in the two texts.It emphasizes the fact that over a period of nearly a thousand years,from the late Warring States(475–221 BCE)to the Sui and Tang periods,Dao Yin was an important medical practice,culminating in its institutionalization by the Sui government.

Yuan Ke and Chinese Mythology

Yuan Ke shifted his focus from early literary creation to mythological research,gradually developing a distinctive approach to mythology research,which involves examining the correlation between mythology and literature.Yuan Ke is one of the most exceptional scholars who has made significant contributions to the popularity and promotion of Chinese mythology.He has collected,sorted out,and transformed related materials into stories to facilitate the systematic development of Chinese mythology.Moreover,he proposed and constructed a broad mythology theory,making him a leading figure in contemporary Chinese mythology research.Upon reflecting on the development of Chinese mythology,it is evident that Yuan Ke has progressed from a learner to a trailblazer and finally to the architect of his own comprehensive mythological framework.

Identification of 13th-14th Century Chinese Handmade Paper Fibers Collected in Yuan Dynasty Paper Currencies

The earliest paper currencies in existence in China were handcrafted during the Yuan dynasty.These currencies were scientifically excavated from different ruins or tombs,whereas scientific analyses of the papers are rare.This study used optical and scanning electron microscopy to examine the fibers collected in Yuan dynasty paper currencies in conjunction with the Herzberg staining method.Despite differences in circulation period,paper fibers in both Zhi Yuan Tong Xing Bao Chao(two Guan)and Zhong Tong Yuan Bao Jiao Chao(one Guan and 500 Wen,issued in Zhi Zheng period)were identified as similar papermaking materials,bast fibers of mulberry bark.The results indicate that mulberry bark,a durable papermaking material used since ancient times,was mainly utilized as a raw material in these Yuan dynasty paper currency.This fiber identification work solved the critical problem of papermaking material in the Yuan dynasty paper currency and provided important information for conserving these precious cultural relics.

拟南芥YUAN1基因调控器官形状和大小

器官形状和大小的控制是一个基本的发育生物学过程,受细胞分裂和细胞扩展的影响。到目前为止,人们对植物器官形状和大小的调控机制知之甚少。本实验室前期研究发现了一个种子和器官大小的调控基因DA1,其编码一个泛素受体。在拟南芥(Arabidopsis thaliana)中,DA1通过抑制细胞的分裂来限制种子和器官的大小。本研究通过激活标签的方法在da1-1突变体背景下筛选到一个叶子形状发生改变的半显性突变体(yuan1-1D)。yuan1-1D形成短而圆的叶片和短的叶柄,细胞学分析显示,叶片和叶柄变短的主要原因是细胞的长向扩展降低导致的。YUAN1编码一个含有PHD锌指结构域的蛋白。GFP-YUAN1融合蛋白定位在细胞核内。过量表达YUAN1基因导致叶片和叶柄变短。遗传学分析显示,YUAN1和DA1、ROT3以及ROT4在控制叶片形状和大小方面作用于不同的遗传途径中。因此,本研究鉴定了一个新的控制器官形状和大小的基因YUAN1,为阐明植物器官形状和大小调控的分子机制提供了重要线索。

Comparative Textual Studies on Bai Hua's Poem Xiatian Hai Hen Yuan and Its English Translations

Based on the poem Xiatian Hai Hen Yuan夏天还很远, one of the most characteristic works of the Chinese poet Bai Hua, along with its four English translations, this paper conducts comparative textual studies with regard to three aspects, including the translation of hidden personae, the selection of the tense and aspectas well as the rendition of poetic rhythms. The author holds the view that, on the one hand, different textual interpretations have gone a long way toward the dissemination of the original poem in the English-speaking world;on the other hand, the translator's proper understanding and rendition is of great significance with a view to a better presentation of the unique beauty of Chinese poetry both in the content and the form.

Molecular Biological Mechanisms of Yuan Zhi Powder in the Treatment of Alzheimer's Disease: an Analysis Based on Network Pharmacology

Objective To predict the main active ingredients,potential targets and molecular mechanisms of Yuan Zhi powder in treatment of dementia by using network pharmacology.Methods A database of chemical constituents of Yuan Zhi powder was constructed by using databases and literatures.Potential targets were predicted by reverse molecular docking,and then a component-target network was constructed.The target network of Alzheimer's disease(AD)was mapped and analyzed to obtain the“active ingredient-AD target”network.The key targets were screened through network analysis.Finally,the rationality of the prediction was analyzed by comparing with the target reported in the literatures.Results There were180chemical constituents acting on the AD target,and the targets included three key targets(cyclooxygenase-2,muscarinic acetylcholine receptor M1,and muscarinic acetylcholine receptor M2)and an important target(acetylcholine esterase).Alzheimer's disease may be treated by regulating the activity of acetylcholine receptors and the binding toβ-amyloid protein,and its biological process may be concentrated in the acetylcholine receptor signal pathway,negative regulation of synaptic transmission and so on.Conclusion The fact that Yuan Zhi powder can treat AD is consistent with the characteristics of multi-components-multitargets-multiple pathways of traditional Chinese medicine.The important targets obtained from network analysis have a large proportion in literature research,so network analysis have some rationality.

Study on the Kind and Character of Mongol Hats in Yuan Dynasty

In the thirteenth century the Mongols created a vast, transcontinental empire that intensified cultural, art, craftwork, garment and commercial contact throughout Eurasia. Hats were so indispensable parts of formal Mongol dress that were seen as a symbol of Mongol traditional garment. Roughly Mongolian men＇s headgear can be divided into two groups, which are Li and Mao. In addition, Mongolian women＇s Gu-gu-gwan, a kind of bonnet, was the head-dress for the empress, concubines of the emperor, and wife of high ranking ministers. This study, based on the analysis of image resources and existing evidence, discusses the hats of Yuan period in the context of its group, origin, decoration and cultural influences.

Development and Utilization of Water Resources and Countermeasures:A Case Study of Yuan'an County of Yichang City in Hubei Province

[Objective] To study current development and utilization of water resources in Yuan'an County and countermeasures. [Method] On the basis of analyzing basic characteristics of water resources in Yuan'an County as well as its current development and utilization, problems in the development and utilization of water resources in the study area were pointed out, and feasible countermeasures were proposed correspondingly. [Result] The county is endowed with rich water resources, but the overall use efficiency is low. There are many problems in the development and utilization of local water resources, such as pollution of water source, water and soil loss and so on. [Conclusion] In view of the problems, feasible suggestions were given to provide scientific support for the reasonable development and utilization of water resources in Yuan'an County.

The Influence of Miao Nationality’s Culture in Yuan Xiang Region on the Later Poetry Creation of Qu Yuan

Miao culture is one of the minority cultures in China.It also has a certain impact on the development of Chinese literature and poetry.Chu ci is a new poetic style created by Qu Yuan,an ancient poet in China.It is the first collection of romantic poetry in the history of Chinese literature.Qu Yuan’s poetry creation is related to his life experience.Qu Yuan was exiled to Yuan Xiang region,and he had been in contact with the Miao ancestors in Yuan Xiang area during the exile.Therefore,the Miao land culture in Yuan Xiang area has a profound influence on Qu Yuan’s later poetry creation.This paper,taking Qu Yuan’s later poetry as an example,analyzes the influence of Miao culture on Chu ci in Yuan Xiang area,introduces Qu Yuan’s life and how to contact Miao culture,and probes into the influence of Miao nationality’s religious thought,customs,language and culture,oral folk song and pan song on the later poetry creation of Qu Yuan.

Analysis on Classical Chinese Garden Fork Space under a Perspective of Design:A Case Study of the Fork At the Northeast Veranda of Bu Yuan

The paper,from the perspective of picturesque scene and space design,analyzes in detail the painting intention,spatial details and scenery of the fork of the northeast veranda of Bu Yuan,assisted by the narration of Yuan Ye written by Ji Cheng and Wen Zhengming’s traditional Chinese landscape painting.And the paper analyzes how the garden seeks a balance between painting environment and gardening rules.
