Comparative Studies on Degradation of Methyl Orange by Nanostructured Zinc and Zinc Oxide Films

Nanostructured zinc and zinc oxide films were prepared by magnetron sputtering processes and succeeded air annealing treatments. Comparison of reductive degradation rate of methyl orange (MO) by zinc films and photocatalytic degradation rate of MO by zinc oxide films was carried out. Both reductive degradation and photocatalytic degradation process of MO by zinc and zinc oxide films can be described by first order kinetic model. It was found that although MO liquid was most quickly decolorized by metallic zinc films, the mineraliza- tion of MO was not thorough. Observation of extra ultraviolet absorption peaks indicated the formation of aromatic intermediates. On the other hand, although the photocatalytic degradation rate of MO liquid by ZnO films was only as about 1/4 large as the reductive degradation rate by zinc films, no signs of aromatic intermediates were found. Moreover, it was found that partially oxidized zinc oxide film showed higher photocatalytic efficiency than the totally oxidized ZnO films. Synergy effect between zinc and zinc oxide phase in the partially oxidized films was considered to be responsible for the higher photocatalytic efficiency. 展开更多

Cu-based catalysts are commonly used in industry for methanol synthesis.In this study,supported catalysts of 5 wt%Cu/Al_(2)O_(3)and 5 wt%Cu/ZnO were prepared,and their surface characteristics during H_(2) reduction and CO_(2)hydrogenation were investigated using in situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),ex situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,and high sensitivity low energy ion scattering spectroscopy.During the H2 reduction and CO_(2)hydrogenation processes,it was found that Al_(2)O_(3)can stabilize Cu^(+).In situ FTIR spectra indicated that the 5 wt%Cu/Al_(2)O_(3)can adsorb large amounts of bicarbonate and carbonate species,which then convert into formate during CO_(2)hydrogenation.For the 5 wt%Cu/ZnO,it was found that Cu nanoparticles were gradually covered by a highly defective ZnOx overlayer during H2 reduction,which can effectively dissociate H2.During CO_(2)hydrogenation,the adsorbed bicarbonate or carbonate species can convert into formate and then into a methoxy species.Using these surface sensitive methods,a more in-depth understanding of the synergistic effect among the Cu,Al_(2)O_(3),and ZnO components of Cu-based catalysts was achieved. 展开更多

The electrical transport behavior of Zn-treated Zn_(1-x)Mn_xO bulks

Zn vapor treatment has been carried out to adjust the carrier concentration. For the Zn treated Zn1-xMnxO bulks, analysis of the temperature dependence of resistance and the field dependence of magnetoresistance demonstrates that the bound magnetic polarons (BMPs) play an important role in the electrical transport behavior. The hopping of BMPs dominates the electrical conduction behavior when temperature is below 170 K. At low temperature, paramagnetic Zn1-xMnxO bulks show a large magnetoresistance effect, which indicates that the large magnetoresistance effect in transition-metal doped ZnO dilute magnetic semiconductors is independent of their magnetic states. 展开更多

CO_(2)氧化乙烷脱氢制乙烯是一种具有前景的乙烯生产方式,可以使国家在满足内需的情况下增大国际乙烯市场的竞争力.Zn基催化剂在低碳烷烃脱氢制烯烃上具有很高的催化活性,但其应用的关键在于遏制高温反应时Zn元素的流失和提高乙烯选择性.本研究以ZrO_(2)为载体负载Zn,通过XRD、Raman、TEM、UV-vis、XPS、H2-TPR等表征手段结合性能评价说明了由共沉淀法制备的1%ZnZrO_(x)(C)催化剂,可以将Zn元素锚定到ZrO_(2)上,与ZrO_(2)相比,锚定到ZrO_(2)中的Zn元素减少了副反应的发生,提高乙烯选择性的同时,还可以维持催化剂的催化活性.相对于1%ZnZrO_(x)(C)催化剂,由ZnO_(x)和ZrO_(2)直接物理混合而成的1%ZnZrO_(x)(P)催化剂催化活性的提升来自于大量存在于ZrO_(2)表面的聚集态ZnO_(x)物种.相对于锚定到ZrO_(2)上的Zn物种,大量存在于ZrO_(2)表面的ZnO_(x)物种虽然具有极高的活性,但它也导致了严重的乙烷氢解、干重整、积碳和逆水煤气等副反应,并且副反应随反应温度的升高而加剧.因此,在CO_(2)氧化乙烷脱氢制乙烯反应中应尽量避免位于ZrO_(2)载体表面形成聚集态的ZnO_(x)物种. 展开更多
