Background:Numerous academic studies have explored the utilization of pharmacogenomics in the context of immunologic diseases in recent years.Despite this,there is a notable absence of scientometric analyses focusing ...Background:Numerous academic studies have explored the utilization of pharmacogenomics in the context of immunologic diseases in recent years.Despite this,there is a notable absence of scientometric analyses focusing on the literature within this domain.Methods:This study employs bibliometric methods to systematically categorize the literature pertaining to pharmacogenomics in the context of immune diseases,with the aim of identifying research trends,key areas of interest,and prominent research institutions in this field.Results:Scientometric analysis compared 812 international publications with 71 Chinese publications,finding that the prevailing international research focus is on the precise dosing and therapy of immunosuppressants like mercaptopurine,a topic more extensively explored than in Chinese literature.Conclusion:It is found that the research focus is centered on precision medication and therapy,with a particular emphasis on the utilization of different immunosuppressants like mercaptopurine and tacrolimus.Furthermore,it is anticipated that precision dosing of emerging immunosuppressants like sirolimus will be a significant are a of future research.展开更多

Infrastructure that promotes such interdisciplinary studies on the upper atmosphere has been developed by a Japanese inter-university project called the Inter-university Upper atmosphere Global Observation Network (1UGONET). The objective of this paper is to describe the infrastructure and tools developed by IUGONET. We focus on the data analysis software. It is written in Interactive Data Language (IDL) and is a plug-in for the THEMIS Data Analysis Software suite (TDAS), which is a set of IDL libraries used to visualize and analyze satellite- and ground-based data. We present plots of upper atmospheric data provided by IUGONET as examples of applications, and verify the usefulness of the software in the study of polar science. We discuss IUGONET's new and unique developments, i.e., an executable file of TDAS that can run on the IDL Virtual Machine, IDL routines to retrieve metadata from the IUGONET database, and an archive of 3-D simulation data that uses the Common Data Format so that it can easily be used with TDAS.展开更多
The heavy-tailed distributions are very useful and play a major role in actuary and financial management problems.Actuaries are often searching for such distributions to provide the best fit to financial and economic ...The heavy-tailed distributions are very useful and play a major role in actuary and financial management problems.Actuaries are often searching for such distributions to provide the best fit to financial and economic data sets.In the current study,a prominent method to generate new distributions useful for modeling heavy-tailed data is considered.The proposed family is introduced using trigonometric function and can be named as the Arcsine-X family of distri-butions.For the purposes of the demonstration,a specific sub-model of the proposed family,called the Arcsine-Weibull distribution is considered.The max-imum likelihood estimation method is adopted for estimating the parameters of the Arcsine-X distributions.The resultant estimators are evaluated in a detailed Monte Carlo simulation study.To illustrate the Arcsine-Weibull two insurance data sets are analyzed.Comparison of the Arcsine-Weibull model is done with the well-known two parameters and four parameters competitors.The competitive models including the Weibull,Lomax,Burr-XII and beta Weibull models.Different goodness of fit measures are taken into account to determine the useful-ness of the Arcsine-Weibull and other considered models.Data analysis shows that the Arcsine-Weibull distribution works much better than competing models in financial data analysis.展开更多

BACKGROUND The deltoid ligament is a key component of ankle fracture stability.Clinical tests to assess deltoid ligament injury have low specificity.In supination externalrotation(SER)type-IV ankle fractures,there is ...BACKGROUND The deltoid ligament is a key component of ankle fracture stability.Clinical tests to assess deltoid ligament injury have low specificity.In supination externalrotation(SER)type-IV ankle fractures,there is either a medial malleolus fracture or deltoid ligament injury.These injuries are often considered unstable,requiring surgical stabilisation.We look to identify the anatomical basis for this instability.This study investigates the anatomical basis for such instability by re-creating SER type ankle fractures in a standardised cadaveric study model,investigating the anatomical basis for such instability.AIM To investigate the anatomical basis for fracture instability in SER type ankle fractures.METHODS Four matched pairs of cadaveric limbs were tested for stability both when axially loaded and under external rotation stress.Four matched pairs of cadaveric limbs(8 specimens)were tested for stability when axially loaded to 750 N with a custom rig.Specimens were tested through increasing stages of SER injury in a stepwise fashion before restoring the lateral side with open reduction and internal fixation(ORIF).Clinical photographs and radiographs were recorded at each step.We defined instability in accordance with well accepted radiological parameters:>4 mm medial clear space opening on a mortise-view radiograph or>7 degrees of talar tilt.RESULTS All specimens with an intact posterior deep deltoid ligament were stable.Once the posterior deep deltoid ligament was sectioned there was instability in all specimens.Stabilisation of the lateral side prevented talar shift,but not talar tilt.CONCLUSION If the posterior deep deltoid ligament is intact then SER fractures can be managed without surgery.If the posterior deep deltoid is incompetent,ORIF and cautious rehabilitation is recommended because the talus can still tilt in the mortise.展开更多

Furthermore, it is still a country where international relations are under the umbrella of political science and political science itself is heavily influenced by the study of the law. This paper looks at the development of international relations both as a tool for training diplomats and as a topic of study within political science in Chile. It does so within the framework of the social sciences. Using interviews as a complimentary tool of research, it concludes that, along with a marked influence of economics in the study of social sciences in Chile, the country's political and social history has shaped the advent of social sciences at the undergraduate level and has dwarfed the growth and contents of both political science and international studies, in spite of the country's successful embrace of globalization.展开更多
This article explores both the personal and transnational dimensions of domestic science education and study abroad for the pioneering generation of Chinese women in science.By focusing on women’s unique calculus of ...This article explores both the personal and transnational dimensions of domestic science education and study abroad for the pioneering generation of Chinese women in science.By focusing on women’s unique calculus of risk and reward,the article not only distinguishes Chinese women’s experiences from those of their male counterparts but also delineates the special contours of the Chinese case within the global advancement of women in science.The article begins by outlining some of the features and dynamics of early Chinese girls’schools that affected students’interest in and preparation for further scientific study.Then it traces the emerging college-level opportunities that made it possible for women who were studying science in China to contemplate advanced work overseas.Turning to study abroad,the article highlights the radicalness of the decision to study abroad by examining the impact of both family background and national circumstances on Chinese women’s strategies of mobility.The article argues that if we are to take women’s experiences seriously,we cannot just look at scientific pursuits in terms of achievements in the development of Chinese science,we also need to consider the ways that·scientific ambitions forced individuals—both male and female—to navigate and reimagine multiple social norms and expectations.展开更多

After comparing the differences in the duration of body-processing time of all eight methods, Alkaline Hydrolysis was determined to take the shortest length of time to complete (6 - 8 hours), while Plastination was deemed to take the longest length of time to complete (1 year). Additionally, with regard to comparing the differences in cost to the consumer, Plastination and Body Farm were both deemed to be of the lowest cost ($0/body donation only), while Cryonics was deemed to be the most expensive ($200,000+ due to ongoing subfreezing storage and maintenance fees). Finally, after comparing the differences in each state’s set of sanctioned methods of final disposition, it was established that the seventeen states that restrict their residents’ options the most, permitting only two out of the eight contemporary options, include Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, and that the two states that restrict their residents the least, permitting six out of the eight contemporary options include California and Florida.展开更多

With the increase of membrane proteins on soma and in...Peripheral nerve injury has been shown to result in ectopic spontaneous discharges on soma and injured sites of sensory neurons, thereby inducing neuropathic pain. With the increase of membrane proteins on soma and injured site neurons, the negatively charged sialic acids bind to the external domains of membrane proteins, resulting in an increase of this charge. We therefore speculate that the electrophoretic velocity of injured neurons may be faster than non-injured neurons. The present study established rat models of neuropathic pain via chronic constriction injury. Results of the cell electrophoresis test revealed that the electrophoretic velocity of injured neuronal cells was faster than that of non-injured (control) cells. We then treated cells with divalent cations of Ca2+ and organic compounds with positive charges, polylysine to counteract the negatively charged sialic acids, or neuraminidase to specifically remove sialic acids from the membrane surface of injured neurons. All three treatments significantly reduced the electrophoretic velocity of injured neuronal cells. These findings suggest that enhanced sialic acids on injured neurons may accelerate the electrophoretic velocity of injured neurons.展开更多

METHODS: Using ISI Web of Science database for statistical sources, we retrieved DR literatures during 2000-2010, analyzed 'the number of published articles per year, authors, source publications, subject category, document type, document language, institution and country/region' by bibliometric statistical methods. RESULTS: The total number of published articles that were retrieved for the years during 2000-2010 was 8590. DR researches changed as a linear upward trend, the main researches focused on ophthalmology, endocrine and metabolic diseases. Article was the main document type. Harvard University was the major research institution. CONCLUSION: There has achieved a significant increase in the number of ISI publications and collaborations in DR literatures from 2000 to 2010. With the rising of the number of diabetes in the world, diabetic retinopathy has become a focus of scientific researches.展开更多

文摘BACKGROUND The deltoid ligament is a key component of ankle fracture stability.Clinical tests to assess deltoid ligament injury have low specificity.In supination externalrotation(SER)type-IV ankle fractures,there is either a medial malleolus fracture or deltoid ligament injury.These injuries are often considered unstable,requiring surgical stabilisation.We look to identify the anatomical basis for this instability.This study investigates the anatomical basis for such instability by re-creating SER type ankle fractures in a standardised cadaveric study model,investigating the anatomical basis for such instability.AIM To investigate the anatomical basis for fracture instability in SER type ankle fractures.METHODS Four matched pairs of cadaveric limbs were tested for stability both when axially loaded and under external rotation stress.Four matched pairs of cadaveric limbs(8 specimens)were tested for stability when axially loaded to 750 N with a custom rig.Specimens were tested through increasing stages of SER injury in a stepwise fashion before restoring the lateral side with open reduction and internal fixation(ORIF).Clinical photographs and radiographs were recorded at each step.We defined instability in accordance with well accepted radiological parameters:>4 mm medial clear space opening on a mortise-view radiograph or>7 degrees of talar tilt.RESULTS All specimens with an intact posterior deep deltoid ligament were stable.Once the posterior deep deltoid ligament was sectioned there was instability in all specimens.Stabilisation of the lateral side prevented talar shift,but not talar tilt.CONCLUSION If the posterior deep deltoid ligament is intact then SER fractures can be managed without surgery.If the posterior deep deltoid is incompetent,ORIF and cautious rehabilitation is recommended because the talus can still tilt in the mortise.

The TiO_X overlayer was found to form in a layer-by-layer mode with a suboxide of titanium in the form of TiO migrating into the Fe substrate and Fe migrating into the deposited layer of TiO_X simultaneously during the deposition.
文摘In Chile, the study of international relations is very limited both in the number of programs and in its scope. Furthermore, it is still a country where international relations are under the umbrella of political science and political science itself is heavily influenced by the study of the law. This paper looks at the development of international relations both as a tool for training diplomats and as a topic of study within political science in Chile. It does so within the framework of the social sciences. Using interviews as a complimentary tool of research, it concludes that, along with a marked influence of economics in the study of social sciences in Chile, the country's political and social history has shaped the advent of social sciences at the undergraduate level and has dwarfed the growth and contents of both political science and international studies, in spite of the country's successful embrace of globalization.
文摘This article explores both the personal and transnational dimensions of domestic science education and study abroad for the pioneering generation of Chinese women in science.By focusing on women’s unique calculus of risk and reward,the article not only distinguishes Chinese women’s experiences from those of their male counterparts but also delineates the special contours of the Chinese case within the global advancement of women in science.The article begins by outlining some of the features and dynamics of early Chinese girls’schools that affected students’interest in and preparation for further scientific study.Then it traces the emerging college-level opportunities that made it possible for women who were studying science in China to contemplate advanced work overseas.Turning to study abroad,the article highlights the radicalness of the decision to study abroad by examining the impact of both family background and national circumstances on Chinese women’s strategies of mobility.The article argues that if we are to take women’s experiences seriously,we cannot just look at scientific pursuits in terms of achievements in the development of Chinese science,we also need to consider the ways that·scientific ambitions forced individuals—both male and female—to navigate and reimagine multiple social norms and expectations.
文摘Based on existing problems in the course of development of self-study examination of agricultural science disciplines, this paper analyzes logical conditions for its sustainable development. Major logical conditions include requirement for free and comprehensive development of individuals; requirement for social institutional evolution and change; requirement for fairness and justice of education and development; as well as requirement for better-established organization system and higher social reputation. Finally, it presents basic measures for sustainable development of self-study examination of agricultural science disciplines, including carrying on reasonable core elements of self-study examination system, adjusting structure of discipline, improving social assistance system, and expanding service space.

文摘This article illustrates the procedural specificities of the following eight contemporary methods of final disposition: (1) Natural Organic Reduction, (2) Alkaline Hydrolysis, (3) Plastination, (4) Body Farm, (5) Cryonics, (6) Memorial Reefs, (7) Organic Burial Pods, and (8) Space Funeral. After comparing the differences in the duration of body-processing time of all eight methods, Alkaline Hydrolysis was determined to take the shortest length of time to complete (6 - 8 hours), while Plastination was deemed to take the longest length of time to complete (1 year). Additionally, with regard to comparing the differences in cost to the consumer, Plastination and Body Farm were both deemed to be of the lowest cost ($0/body donation only), while Cryonics was deemed to be the most expensive ($200,000+ due to ongoing subfreezing storage and maintenance fees). Finally, after comparing the differences in each state’s set of sanctioned methods of final disposition, it was established that the seventeen states that restrict their residents’ options the most, permitting only two out of the eight contemporary options, include Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, and that the two states that restrict their residents the least, permitting six out of the eight contemporary options include California and Florida.

文摘Peripheral nerve injury has been shown to result in ectopic spontaneous discharges on soma and injured sites of sensory neurons, thereby inducing neuropathic pain. With the increase of membrane proteins on soma and injured site neurons, the negatively charged sialic acids bind to the external domains of membrane proteins, resulting in an increase of this charge. We therefore speculate that the electrophoretic velocity of injured neurons may be faster than non-injured neurons. The present study established rat models of neuropathic pain via chronic constriction injury. Results of the cell electrophoresis test revealed that the electrophoretic velocity of injured neuronal cells was faster than that of non-injured (control) cells. We then treated cells with divalent cations of Ca2+ and organic compounds with positive charges, polylysine to counteract the negatively charged sialic acids, or neuraminidase to specifically remove sialic acids from the membrane surface of injured neurons. All three treatments significantly reduced the electrophoretic velocity of injured neuronal cells. These findings suggest that enhanced sialic acids on injured neurons may accelerate the electrophoretic velocity of injured neurons.

文摘AIM: To analyze the progress in diabetic retinopathy (DR) researches between 2000 and 2010 through bibliometric study. METHODS: Using ISI Web of Science database for statistical sources, we retrieved DR literatures during 2000-2010, analyzed 'the number of published articles per year, authors, source publications, subject category, document type, document language, institution and country/region' by bibliometric statistical methods. RESULTS: The total number of published articles that were retrieved for the years during 2000-2010 was 8590. DR researches changed as a linear upward trend, the main researches focused on ophthalmology, endocrine and metabolic diseases. Article was the main document type. Harvard University was the major research institution. CONCLUSION: There has achieved a significant increase in the number of ISI publications and collaborations in DR literatures from 2000 to 2010. With the rising of the number of diabetes in the world, diabetic retinopathy has become a focus of scientific researches.
