他者的镜像：英语世界对《茶经》的首次译介--兼评All About Tea by William Ukers

780年,陆羽的《茶经》开创了中国茶道和为茶"著书立学"的先河,其历史文化价值非凡。1935年,美国学者威廉·乌克思(William Ukers)所著《茶叶全书》(All About Tea)一书对《茶经》的译介实现了陆羽及其作品在英语世界的首次亮相。本文通过回顾此次译介活动和对All About Tea及其汉译历程的梳理,以求彰显茶文化在不同文明之间的传播与传承、交流与互鉴。

DISTRIBUTION OF ACTIVE EARTH PRESSURE OF RETAINING WALL WITH WALL MOVEMENT OF ROTATION ABOUT TOP

Based on the Coulomb's theory that the earth pressure against the back of a retaining wall is due to the thrust exerted by the sliding wedge of soil from the back of the wall to a plane which passes through the bottom edge of the wall and has an inclination equal to the angle of θ, the theoretical answers to the unit earth pressure, the resultant earth pressure and the point of application of the resultant earth pressure on a retaining wall were obtained for the wall movement mode of rotation about top. The comparisons were made among the formula presented here, the formula for the wall movement mode of translation, the Coulomb's formula and some experimental observations. It is demonstrated that the magnitudes of the resultant earth pressures for the wall movement mode of rotation about top is equal to that determined by the formula for the wall movement mode of translation and the Coulomb's theory. But the distribution of the earth pressure and the points of application of the resultant earth pressures have significant difference.

Distinguishing the meanings of near synonyms always seems to be a challenging task for Chinese EFL learners,as is the case with bring about and give rise to be exemplified in the paper.I will use a corpus approach to unveil some implied semantic patterns and pragmatic features of the two phrases,and generalize their semantic prosodies as used by native English speakers by analyzing what kinds of nouns tend to co-occur with them,and also discuss whether there is a transfer of negative semantic prosody from the word cause to the two phrases under discussion.

Analysis of the Game for the Air Pollution in the Perspective of the Amendment about Environmental Law

The haze has become the necessary thing to talk about everywhere for the Chinese people nowadays and the main report object in the news. It becomes increasingly urgent to develop the circular economy and build a beautiful China. But there exists secretly a game between the central and local governments when the air protection is enforced. The central government calls for implementing the total control system of the key pollutant emission,but the local governments are blandly ignoring the central government＇s requirement as they have to face the pressures of the assessment and performance. And the games among the local governments at the same level and between the governments and enterprises lead that the existing incentive policy through the legislation is inefficiency in China. The amendment about Environmental Law has laid foundation of the legal system for it.

Implications of NIE Project to Development of Newspapers about Agriculture,Countryside and Farmers

Through analyzing current situations of newspapers about agriculture,countryside and farmers and problems impairing development of these newspapers,this paper presents constructive recommendations for combination with NIE project at operational level.In China,NIE project should not copy foreign experience,but should proceed from rural realities,expend its intension and enrich its extension,and extend coverage of newspaper to all levels in rural areas.In addition,it is recommended to explore new approaches and find a new development road of newspapers about agriculture,countryside and farmers through transforming the publishing mode.

Criminal Behavior among the Elderly: A Look into What People Think about This Emerging Topic

The elderly population is growing fast. With this changing demographic fact we can expect to see overall crime rates among the elderly growing right along with it. This study explored people’s knowledge about elderly crime and their perceptions about elderly offenders. Survey data were collected from 229 respondents living in Southern California. Statistical analyses on the key variables revealed a number of significant group differences in regard to age F(7, 221) = 2.15, p = 0.039, and ethnicity F(5, 223) = 2.60, p = 0.026. The data revealed that most of the respondents believe that elderly crime is going to get worse over time (58.5%) and that white-collar crimes were the biggest problem (44.5%). Male respondents (M = 1.80, SD = 3.83) on average knew more elderly offenders than female respondents (M = 0.99, SD = 2.39). Respondents from all ages tended to believe that older people were less likely to commit street crimes but were about as likely to commit white-collar crimes as younger people. There also appears to be a pattern of increasing drug use and drug abuse among both elderly men and women. Increasing problems with criminal offending among the elderly are going to have major implications across different social systems and institutions, such as political, economic, and legal systems, corrections, rehabilitation, and medical and mental health services.

Knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs about HIV/AIDS of Sudanese and Bantu Somali immigrant women living in Omaha, Nebraska

A needs assessment of the knowledge, attitudes, practices, and beliefs about HIV/AIDS prevention was conducted among 100 Sudanese and Bantu Somali women immigrants aged 19 years and older, recruited through a community organization between April and July 2006. Information was collected by interview using interpreters to administer a 60-item test and a 116-item questionnaire that had been translated into Nuer and Arabic. Women in this study had low levels of education, poor knowledge about HIV transmission and prevention and safer sex practices, and poor attitudes to HIV/AIDS. They believe that HIV/AIDS is a punishment from God, HIV-positive people should be separated from society, carrying a condom indicates having loose morals, women should not experience sexual pleasure, and men should decide when and how to have sexual intercourse. Education, gender, and cultural beliefs are critical in the spread of HIV. Efforts to educate immigrant and displaced populations, particularly women, are essential.

Learners' beliefs about language learning constitute one of the important inquiries in research on individual differenc?es. This study aims to undertake an intensive investigation into the language learning beliefs of college beginners in a Chinese higher vocational college. The findings of this investigation can provide some implications for college English teaching and learn?ing.

Case study of perception about the copyright of the digital libraries in China's Mainland with Hong Kong and Taiwan, China as the reference system

This paper analyzes the perception of the librarians in China's Mainland about the copyright during the development of digital libraries with Hong Kong Special Administrative Region(HK SAR) and Taiwan, China as the reference system, through questionnaire survey of copyright cases of the digital libraries by investigating the digital library builders and librarians of 30 universities from China's Mainland, HK SAR and Taiwan,China ranked among the top 500 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities(SJTU Version). The report holds that: 1) The copyright law shall evolve with the times and be revised from time to time; 2) it is imperative to popularize and educate in the copyright law; 3) the guidelines for the use of the copyright law of the education industry shall be developed as soon as possible; and 4) the Collective Management of Copyright Regulations shall be enforced as early as possible.

In the wake of the rapid economy and society development, phenomena such as industri-alisation, urbanisation, marketisation and the ageing of the population have shown an accelerating trend. As a result, mental health issues due to these phenomena are increasingly serious, making mental health both concerning public health and societal issues that have a great impact on economic and social development.^1 In 2014, there were 16 million persons with severe mental disor-ders in China.

构式“What are you/we talking about?”的元语用阐释

“What are you/we talking about?”是英语口语交际中常见的习语构式,不仅具有规约意义和语境制约下的语用意义,而且用来调节和管理前述话语与交际行为,属于元语用意识指示语。本文基于元语用理论,通过分析美国当代英语语料库口语子库中构式“What are you/we talking about?”的语用意义,揭示其在不同语境下说话人的元语用意识体现。研究发现,构式“What are you/we talking about?”体现说话人对交际中语篇、信息、发话人和交际双方四个维度的元语用意识,具体表现在管理话语组织结构,为听话人提供认知解读框架,构建权威身份,管理人际亲疏关系。本研究拓展了构式研究的理论视角,对构式的元语用阐释有助于我们更全面地推理和解读说话人的交际意图。

基于语料库的中外药企英文简介对比研究

以国外十家知名药企英文简介和中国十家知名药企英文简介为主要研究内容,提取简介概述部分的内容自建语料库,部分对比研究借助语料库工具Antconc3.5.9,尝试从中外药企英文简介概述部分的文本内容、高频词表、词汇密度、简介药企形象构成维度和要素以及文化差异方面对中外药企的英文简介作对比分析,归纳总结中外药企英文简介的共性和差异,提出应对的建议,以期进一步优化中国药企英文简介。

It is found with the method of multiple scales that there exists a new periodical processwith long period T_1= 2π(Δω~2-f^2ω)^(1/2) when f= ω_e^2A_r/g and Δω/ω=ω-ω_e/ω are O(ε), whereg is the gravitational acceleration, ω_e half of the driving frequency, A. the driving ampli-tude, ω the frequency of (0, 1) mode of the water trough. Suggest that φ which is corre-lativc with the complex amplitude of velocity potential is a function of θ and ?φ/?θ is O(ω~3),where θ satisfies θ(t + T_1) =θ(t), e.g. θ=?/Ω sinΩ_t (Ω=2π/T_1). The NLS equation of theφ(x,θ) is obtained. The phenomena of passing--through and oscil- lating about each other ofa pair of solitary waves in a rectangular water trough can be explained.

A model of reasoning about knowledge

A modal logical language and its Kripke semantics and Aumann semantics are introduced. A complete formal deduction system is established to describe reasoning about knowledge in multi-agent systems involving different languages, and an institution of logics for multi-agent systems is constructed.

A New Method for Reasoning about Action

Reasoning about action is an important aspect of common sense reasoning and planning. It gives rise to three classical problems: the frame problem,the qualification problem and the ramification problem. Ekisting approaches cannot deal with these problems efficiently. This paper presents a new method which uses the stratified ATMS for reasoning about action to overcome the limitations of these approaches.

Power Relationship and Ideology: A Transitivity Analysis of “Great Minds Meet”——Yang Lan One-on-One about G20

Critical Discourse Analysis is used to analyze interviews or TV talk shows, in which one or more persons discuss different topics put forward by a host or other participants. This paper, through the transitivity system, presents a critical discourse analysis of "Great Minds Meet"—Yang Lan One-on-One about G20, a talk show on Zhejiang TV of China in 2016. It verifies the applicability and feasibility of the transitivity system in decoding the speakers' ideological positions and their power relationship. Based on the analysis of six types of processes, this paper reveals:(1) the linguistic choices made by the interviewee Kim Yong present his optimistic attitude towards the main topics in this TV talk show;(2) the interviewee has a strong power in facilitating this show;(3) an atmosphere of harmony among all speakers is maintained constantly.
