In this paper,to better reveal the surface effect and the screening effect as well as the nonlinear multi-field coupling characteristic of the multifunctional piezoelectric semiconductor(PS)nanodevice, and to further improve its working performance,a magneto-mechanical-thermo coupling theoretical model is theoretically established for the extensional analysis of a three-layered magneto-electro-semiconductor coupling laminated nanoplate with the surface effect.Next,by using the current theoretical model, some numerical analyses and discussion about the surface effect, the corresponding critical thickness of the nanoplate, and the distributions of the physical fields(including the electron concentration perturbation, the electric potential, the electric field, the average electric displacement, the effective polarization charge density, and the total charge density)under different initial state electron concentrations,as well as their active manipulation via some external magnetic field,pre-stress,and temperature stimuli, are performed.Utilizing the nonlinear multi-field coupling effect induced by inevitable external stimuli in the device operating environment, this paper not only provides theoretical support for understanding the size-dependent tuning/controlling of carrier transport as well as its screening effect, but also assists the design of a series of multiferroic PS nanodevices. 展开更多

Hepatitis B virus(HBV) reactivation(HBVr) in patients undergoing immunosuppressive therapy is still a hot topic worldwide. Its prevention and management still represents a challenge for specialists dealing with immunosuppressed patients. Aim of this paper is to provide a critical review of the relevant information emerged in the recent literature regarding HBV reactivation following immunosuppressive treatments for oncohematological tumors. A computerized literature search in MEDLINE was performed using appropriate terms arrangement, including English-written literature only or additional relevant articles. Articles published only in abstract form and case reports not giving considerable news were excluded. Clinical manifestation of HBVr can be manifold, ranging from asymptomatic self-limiting anicteric hepatitis to life-threatening fulminant liver failure. In clusters of patients adverse outcomes are potentially predictable. Clinicians should be aware of the inherent risk of HBVr among the different virological categories(active carriers, occult HBV carriers and inactive carriers, the most intriguing category), and classes of immunosuppressive drugs. We recommend that patients undergoing immunosuppressive treatments for hematological malignancies should undergo HBV screening. In case of serological sign(s) of current or past infection with the virus, appropriate therapeutic or preventive strategies are suggested, according to both virological categories, risk of HBVr by immunosuppressive drugsand liver status. Either antiviral drug management and surveillance and pre-emptive approach are examined, commenting the current international recommendations about this debated issue. 展开更多

Mesoporous silica has been widely explored for biomedical applications due to its unique structure and good biocompatibility. In particular it exhibits superior properties as micro/nano-carriers in the biomedical field. We explore their potentials in controlled drug/gene co-delivery and photodynamic therapy for cancer treatment both in vitro and in vivo. By incorporating mesoporous silica nanoparticles(MSNP) with two-dimensional nanomaterial, graphene oxide nano-sheet, we utilize MSNP in cellular bio-imaging with squaraine dye. Meanwhile, through delicate combination between mesoporous silica micro/nano carriers with catalytic/bio-catalytic reactions, we manage to achieve self-propelled micro/nano-motors based on mesoporous silica that are capable of transporting cargos in an active manner. Especially, enzyme powered mesoporous silica motors can be powered by physiologically available fuels such as glucose and urea, which are advantageous for future biomedical use. Motion control on both velocity and movement direction provides a powerful tool for targeted drug delivery. Therefore, such mesoporous silica based active carriers pave way to the solution of targeted drug delivery for cancer treatment in future nano-medicine field. 展开更多

Zeolites have been little investigated for food applications, despite their chemical composition is similar to clays and clay minerals, which have been extensively analyzed for various applications, including food.Zeolites can be distinguished from clay materials, since the former have a porous microstructure characterized by intracrystalline cavities and channels, while the latter have a laminar microstructure. The goal of this review paper was to give a comprehensive perspective in terms of the different food applications found so far for zeolites, namely:antimicrobial materials, ethylene scavengers, fillers for food packaging materials, food nanoreactors, food substance sensors, immobilizers and stabilizers of active compounds and enzymes, molecular sieves for the pretreatment of food samples,as well as intelligent food contact materials. The main food applications from zeolites are related to their good properties as adsorbent materials, and these properties can be altered and tuned by ion exchange, surface organo-modification,among others, for a specific designed application.Zeolites for food applications have been investigated primarily as antimicrobial materials, concentrators of target analytes and sensors for food substances. However, the other potential food applications indicated above from zeolites are booming, since they are harmless materials recognized by various organizations. 展开更多

Changes in refractive index and the corresponding changes in the characteristics of an optical waveguide in enabling propagation of light are the basis for many modern silicon photonic devices. Optical properties of these active nanoscale waveguides are sensitive to the little changes in geometry, external injection/biasing, and doping profiles, and can be crucial in design and manufacturing processes. This paper brings the active silicon waveguide for complete characterization of various distinctive guiding parameters, including perturbation in real and imaginary refractive index, mode loss, group velocity dispersion, and bending loss, which can be instrumental in developing optimal design specifications for various application-centric active silicon waveguides. 展开更多
