It has been shown to reduce the development of kidney failure when given prior to the use of nephrotoxic drugs particularly due to its antioxidant action. However, as far as the authors could ascertain, there is no human study in literature showing these effects. Here we present a case of acute renal failure after the use of N. sativa, rather than exhibiting antioxidant or antidiabetic effects.展开更多

This connection makes the kidney and the lungs as the most organs involved in the multi-organ failure syndrome. The combination of acute lung injury (ALl) and renal failure results a great clinical significance of 80% mortality rate. Acute kidney injury (AKI) leads to an increase in circulating cytokines, chemokines, activated innate immune cells and diffuse of these agents to other organs such as the lungs. These factors initiate pathological cascade that ultimately leads to ALl and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). We comprehensively searched the English medical literature focusing on AKI, ALl, organs cross talk, renal failure, multi organ failure and ARDS using the databases of PubMed, Embase, Scopus and directory of open access journals. In this narrative review, we summarized the pathophysiology and treatment of respiratory distress syndrome following AKI. This review promotes knowledge of the link between kidney and lung with mechanisms, diagnostic biomarkers, and treatment involved ARDS induced by AKI.展开更多

A case study report of acute renal failure associated with Nigella sativa in a diabetic patient. JIntegr Med. 2013; 11(1): 64-66. We have been conducting research on the beneficial effects of Nigella sativa for more than 15 years. We have conducted several clinical trials and used up to 3 g/d and found no toxic effect, rather N. sativa had positive effects on these patients. N. sativa in three doses (1, 2, and 3 g/d) with 40 mg nexium produced from 50% to 67% eradication of Helicobacter pylori in non-ulcer dyspeptic patients. Furthermore, N. sativa in type 2 diabetic patients with the same doses (1, 2 and 3 g/d) reduced fasting blood glucose and hemoglobin A 1 c significantly by the end of the three months treatment and all basic indexes were normalt 21.展开更多
