The proposed algorithm simultaneously reduces the number of fast Fourier transformation(FFT) correlation through hyper code technique and the amount of points in every FFT correlation by using an averaging correlation method. To validate the proposed acquisition performance, the paper applies this algorithm to the real L2C signal collected by the global positioning system(GPS) L2C intermediate frequency(IF) signal sampler—SIS100L2C. The acquisition results show that the proposed modified algorithm can acquire the code phase accurately with less calculation and its acquisition performance is better than the single hyper code method.展开更多

It has been observed that foundation level 3 students of Arab Open University have an insufficient knowledge of vocabulary which is reflected on their writing, as their usage of vocabulary is confined to a number of limited common words. This research explores the effect of collaborative writing on students' vocabulary acquisition. All the writing tasks were related to educational topics in order to provide students with the lexical items related to the same subject. This study took place in one of the foundation level 3 classes at Arab Open University, Oman branch. Fourteen anonymous Arab students for whom English is considered as the second language participated in this study. All students are in the intermediate level of English language proficiency. For each writing task, five collocations were selected to be taught in the class over a period of five weeks. The achieved outcomes revealed contrary results to the previous studies that had shown the effective impact of collaborative writing. This study has discussed the contrary impact of collaborative writing on improving the learners' vocabulary acquisition in addition to the challenges students faced during collaborative writing task. Finally, this research provides recommendations for the effective collaborative writing in the foundation students' language proficiency.展开更多

The article does not try to offer a comprehensive overview of language acquisition mechanisms, but rather it intends to review more narrowly how our conceptual systems, governed by intricately linked networks of neural connections in the brain, make language development possible, at the same time creating some L2 processing problems. Vocabulary acquisition and application has been one of the main issues in English as a Second Language (ESL)/English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning and teaching research. EFL instructors in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in particular, are coping with the effective vocabulary teaching approaches. The current paper will examine three principles based on cognitive linguistics (CL), namely the study of categorization, prototype, and metaphor, and applications of these principles in formal vocabulary instruction in a Bosnian context of English learning in Bosnia and Herzegovina.展开更多

It proves two possibilities: the response types in L1 and L2 of a single individual may be similar, and the dominant language (mostly L1) and the L2 may interfere with each other's vocabulary depth and breadth. The result is of great significance for Chinese learners of English.展开更多

The present study comparatively investigate two strategies of teaching vocabulary to non-English lower-intermediate learners. One is the traditional grammatical description and drilling way, the other is the semantic mapping. Six new words were taught by using these two ways respectively, and a sample test was applied to check students' mastery of these words at the end of the class. The test results show that there is no significant difference between the learning outcomes of these two different teaching approaches, but learners turned out to be more engaged when the teacher conducted the semantic links teaching method. Therefore, perhaps, a combination of these two approaches would be a good choice for those L2 learners.展开更多

Cognates, words which area like beyond two or additional languages in some fields signify an attention-grabbing, illuminating, and crucial facet of foreign or second language learning and research. Forty-five (males and females) participants have been randomly chosen and participated in the experiment in Islamic Azad University, Zanjan, Iran, in 2014-2015 school year. The participants' age was between from 18 to 28, with a mean age of 21.5 years. The materials were divided into two groups which include 30 true cognates and 30 false cognates words from 300 words by doing CVR (content validity ratio) and CVI (content validity index) (Lawshe's table with index of 88% and 82% respectively) for being reliable and valid. These words have been taught to them, after a week, a test has been prepared about those words. According to the results of T-test for comparing the average marks of learning in every two groups can be said that there is a meaningful difference between the scores. The results show that the students learned true cognate words better than the false cognate words. The results of this investigation conjointly make sure the expectations that cognate-based instruction can absolutely impact in second language acquisition.展开更多

Among them, motivation, as the influence factor second only to academic technology, has been widely concerned by scholars at home and abroad. Dörnyei put forward the theory of second-language motivation self-system in 2005;the two-language motivation self-system mainly consists of three components, namely, the ideal two-language self, should be two-language self, and second-language learning experience.展开更多
