The results indicated that three of these catalysts showed the properties of reaction-controlled phasetransfer catalysis, and they had excellent catalytic ability to the oxidation of benzyl alcohol. No other by-products were detected by gas chromatography. Once the hydrogen peroxide was consumed completely, the catalyst precipitated from solvent, and the results of the catalyst recycle showed that the catalyst had high stability.展开更多

The catalysts were characterized by SEM, EDX, XRD, FTIR, TGA/DTA, and surface area and pore size analysis. Experimental data revealed that Fe2O3/AC(KOH) was an efficient catalyst for the oxidation (dehydrogenation) of alcohol while was found to show catalytic activity for both dehydration and dehydrogenation of alcohols. The catalysts were recycled by simple filtration, and used several times without any loss of catalytic activity.展开更多

The separation rates were quantitatively evaluated by the term of initiul demixing time. The grafted starches, with a series of grafting ratios, were prepared by grafting a number of vinyl acetate onto granular cornstarch in aqueous dispersion and then alcoholating in methanol. It was found that the addition of small amounts of starch- g poly (vinyl alcohol ) in the size compositions can effectively decrease the separation rates of the blended pastes in comparison to pure starch/PVA ones. Moreover, the influence of the grafting ratio, starch content, and PVA variety on the separation rates was also studied.展开更多

The light scattering and light transmission measurements were used to characterize the equilibrium phase diagram and the gelation speed, respectively. The locations of the crystallization-induced gelation boundaries for various systems and precipitation processes were explained from the corresponding thermodynamic and kinetic parameters. It was found that the better affinity between alcohol-based nonsolvents and DMAc solvent caused the gelation boundaries further away from the PVDF-DMAc axis with the coagulation bath varying from water, methanol, ethanol to iso-propanol. Due to the lower exchange rate of DMAc and alcohols, the delayed demixing took place for the membrane-forming using alcohols as baths, and the delayed time became longer when the coagulation bath was changed from methanol, ethanol to iso-propanol. The characterization results of membranes indicate that the influence of nonsolvents on the phase diagram and the precipitation process are in agreement with those on the membrane morphology. The better thermodynamic stability and a low exchange diffusion rate of PVDF/DMAc/alcohols favor the liquid-solid phase separation in gelation process, and therefore yield the membranes with a porous upper surface, a particular bottom surface and symmetrical structure.展开更多

Cosolvent method involves two important indexes for appraising the separation behavior: (l) initial demising time, and (2) subsidence ratio. However, they sometimes gave confused results because of the different measuring conditions. For obtaining the indexes accurately, the measuring parameters such as paste concentration, component content, and subsidence period of time were carefully studied and proposed. Besides accuracy, the proposed condition could give larger measuring scope and higher sensitiveness than the old one. Moreover, the influences of the paste concentration, component content, and molecular structure of polyvinyl alcohol upon the separation were also investigated. The experiments indicated that the paste concentration and starch content had much effect on the phase separation, whereas the influence of the molecular structure of polyvinyl展开更多

For the economic biological production of 1,3-PDO, the low cost and high efficient separation processes is essential. In this study, aqueous two-phase system composed of various hydrophilic alcohols and salt was used as a primary separation step for 1,3-PDO. It was found that the aqueous two-phase systems are easily formed with decreasing of the polarity of alcohols. The extraction efficiency is proportional to the polarity of alcohols. In case of methanol or ethanol/K2HPO4, the extraction efficiency was more than 90%.? It was concluded that the aqueous two-phase extraction using methanol or ethanol/K2HPO4 can be applied? for the primary separation of 1,3-PDO? as an alternative to a conventional primary separation processes.展开更多

The fresh catalyst has a high dispersion of Co–Mo–S active phase and no Co_9S_8 is found. The pure H_2 activated catalyst shows a higher intrinsic activity, especially the C_(2+) OH selectivity for the higher alcohol synthesis compared to the one activated by 5% H_2/N_2 atmosphere. The reason is attributed to that the pure H_2 activation more effectively suppresses the formation of Co_9S_8 and stabilizes the Co–Mo–S active phase during the reaction due to the formation of SH species.展开更多
