There are a lot of results appearing in literature. All these communication algorithms can be divided into two kinds: direct communication algorithm and indirect communication algorithm. The optimal direct all-to-all communication algorithm on rings and 2-D tori does exist. But, for indirect all-to-all communication algorithms, there is a gap between the time complexity of the already existing algorithm and the lower bound. In this paper an efficient indirect algorithm for all-to-all communication on rings and 2-D square tori with bidirection channels is presented. The algorithms is faster than any previous indirect algorithms. The main items of the time complexity of the algorithm is P2/8 and p3/2/8 on rings and 2-D tori respectively, both reaching the theoretical lower bound, where p is the number of processors.展开更多
With the increasing presence of robots in our daily life,there is a strong need and demand for the strategies to acquire a high quality interaction between robots and users by enabling robots to understand users’mood...With the increasing presence of robots in our daily life,there is a strong need and demand for the strategies to acquire a high quality interaction between robots and users by enabling robots to understand users’mood,intention,and other aspects.During human-human interaction,personality traits have an important influence on human behavior,decision,mood,and many others.Therefore,we propose an efficient computational framework to endow the robot with the capability of understanding the user’s personality traits based on the user’s nonverbal communication cues represented by three visual features including the head motion,gaze,and body motion energy,and three vocal features including voice pitch,voice energy,and mel-frequency cepstral coefficient(MFCC).We used the Pepper robot in this study as a communication robot to interact with each participant by asking questions,and meanwhile,the robot extracts the nonverbal features from each participant’s habitual behavior using its on-board sensors.On the other hand,each participant’s personality traits are evaluated with a questionnaire.We then train the ridge regression and linear support vector machine(SVM)classifiers using the nonverbal features and personality trait labels from a questionnaire and evaluate the performance of the classifiers.We have verified the validity of the proposed models that showed promising binary classification performance on recognizing each of the Big Five personality traits of the participants based on individual differences in nonverbal communication cues.展开更多

Firstly, a galvanic coupling IBC circuit model was developed and the corresponding parameters were discussed. Secondly, the transfer function of the galvanic coupling IBC was derived and proposed. Finally, the signal attenuation characteristics of the galvanic coupling IBC were measured along different signal transmission paths of actual human bodies, while the corresponding mathematical simulations based on the proposed transfer function were carried out. Our investigation showed that the mathematical simulation results coincided with the measured results over the frequency range of 100kHz to 5MHz, which indicated that the proposed transfer function could be useful for theoretical analysis and application of the galvanic coupling IBC.展开更多
I, an introvert, have observed the introverted EFL teachers in my work place in terms of the characteristics of communica-tion in class since I felt some of my personality traits get in the way in my class. The findin...I, an introvert, have observed the introverted EFL teachers in my work place in terms of the characteristics of communica-tion in class since I felt some of my personality traits get in the way in my class. The findings correspond to Brian R. Little's per-sonality psychology.Brian Little has revealed that introverted people lack mutual gazes and tend to talk past each other, and intro-verted EFL teachers are no exception according to my study. In the perspective of personality psychology, avoiding too much eyecontact is not because of a lack of confidence, but a way for introverts to reduce the outside stimulation. This explanation is reason-able but not good for communication in EFL teaching. In fact it is contradicted with the notion that language teachers should be amaster of communication themselves. Then I managed to identify these seemingly anti-social characteristics of communication andseek for some other means to compensate for what might be missed out in class communication. Brian Little clarifies the relation-ship between free trait, core projects and acting out of character. I conduct an empirical study by using questionnaires in which tenhigh-achieving university introverted English teachers with ten-year teaching experiences illustrates their initial problems in EFLteaching as well as their possible solutions. By collecting some characteristics of communication in class, I provide a three-stepcounter strategy for introverted EFL teachers to survive language class communication. First, accept the"weakness"and feel com-fortable with it. Second, set goals to practice it. Third, look for other means to compensate for it. This counter measure conforms toBrain Little's theory on the relationship between"free trait","core project "and"acting out of character". The rapid development of personal health records(PHR)systems enables an individual to collect,create,store and share his PHR to authorized entities.Health care systems within the smart city environment require a patie...The rapid development of personal health records(PHR)systems enables an individual to collect,create,store and share his PHR to authorized entities.Health care systems within the smart city environment require a patient to share his PRH data with a multitude of institutions’repositories located in the cloud.The cloud computing paradigm cannot meet such a massive transformative healthcare systems due to drawbacks including network latency,scalability and bandwidth.Fog computing relieves the load of conventional cloud computing by availing intermediate fog nodes between the end users and the remote servers.Assuming a massive demand of PHR data within a ubiquitous smart city,we propose a secure and fog assisted framework for PHR systems to address security,access control and privacy concerns.Built under a fog-based architecture,the proposed framework makes use of efficient key exchange protocol coupled with ciphertext attribute based encryption(CP-ABE)to guarantee confidentiality and fine-grained access control within the system respectively.We also make use of digital signature combined with CP-ABE to ensure the system authentication and users privacy.We provide the analysis of the proposed framework in terms of security and performance.展开更多

Consequently, educational programs for teaching engineers should work with the fact that the capability of communicating with people with different background competences is important, nevertheless the engineering education has traditionally focused on technical skills rather than on personal development. In order to reform the B.Sc. courses to guide students to become better and more efficient engineers on all levels, the DTU (Technical University of Denmark) and Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences (Metropolia) modified their education according to the CDIO (conceive, design, implement and operate) approach in the autumn of 2008. The CDIO pedagogy encouraged to develop an interactive course in interpersonal skills, where the students have to take an active part in the exercises as well as involve themselves in the interactive communication process. The course consists of various exercises from which the participants will develop their awareness and knowledge of communication. It is the intention to give the students a personal understanding and idea of a different approach to communicating between people. The students evaluated the course, and the four key questions dealing with the quality of the course show a very high satisfaction with the instruction. The grades one and two (1 best/very much, 5 worst/very little) of the responses "to these four questions are ranging on average from 69.5% to 88% (on a yearly basis). The positive responses indicate that the students are very satisfied with the course recognizing the need for education on international communication.展开更多

Members of these communities often use account names instead of real names. When they meet in the real world, they will find it useful to have a tool that enables them to associate the faces in fiont of them with the account names they know. This paper proposes a method that enables a person to identify the account name of the person ("target") in front of him/her using a smartphone. The attendees to a meeting exchange their identifiers (i.e., the account name) and GPS information using smartphones. When the user points his/her smartphone towards a target, the target's identifier is displayed near the target's head on the camera screen using AR (augmented reality). The position where the identifier is displayed is calculated from the differences in longitude and latitude between the user and the target and the azimuth direction of the target from the user. The target is identified based on this information, the face detection coordinates, and the distance between the two. The proposed method has been implemented using Android terminals, and identification accuracy has been examined through experiments.展开更多

The distance between the patients and the pharmacists varies depending on many factors, such as gender, posture and the patients’ mood. Only a few of these papers have actually measured and validated distance with patients. In this study, we validated our method of assessing mood and measuring distance before beginning a survey with patients. Methods: We measured comfortable interpersonal distance among men and women using an ecological scenario, in which a pharmacist approaches the subject, and the subject is asked to stop the pharmacist at the distance he/she feel comfortable with. Five pharmacists and 33 subjects participated in the study. The Japanese version of the Brief Mood Questionnaire Checklists (BMC-J) was used to quantify the subject’s mood for the day, and then the distance from the pharmacist that the subjects considered comfortable was measured at the bedside. The relationship between the mood and distance obtained was examined. Results: The comfortable distance of subjects was influenced by gender, posture, and mood. The shortest distance was 94.7 ± 11.1 cm (mean ± SD), for the male subjects versus the female pharmacists in the sitting position. The distance of male subjects shorted when they had positive emotions and lengthened when they were worried. Female subjects maintained a long distance from both male and female pharmacists when they had positive emotions and a short distance when they were worried. Conclusion: Findings show that the distance changes depending on the subjects’ mood at the time of measurement. It was found that the present measurement method can be used to determine the psychological state of the patient and measure the comfort distance at that time, and can be used as a simple method to examine these relationships. Therefore, it is also considered a practical method for the next step, which is a clinical study on patients.展开更多

Objectives Gerontechnology has great potential in promoting older adults’well-being.With the accelerated aging process,gerontechnology has a promising market prospect.However,most technological developers and healthc...Objectives Gerontechnology has great potential in promoting older adults’well-being.With the accelerated aging process,gerontechnology has a promising market prospect.However,most technological developers and healthcare professionals attached importance to products’effectiveness,and ignored older adults’demands and user experience,which reduced older adults'adoption intention of gerontechnology use.The inclusion of older adults in the design process of technologies is essential to maximize the effect.This study explored older adults’demands for a self-developed intelligent medication administration system and proposed optimization schemes,thus providing reference to developing geriatric-friendly technologies and products.Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted to explore older adults’technological demands for the self-developed intelligent medication administration system,and data were analyzed based on the Kano model.A self-made questionnaire was administered from July 2020 to October 2020 after participants used this system for two weeks.The study was registered with the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry(ChiCTR2000040644).Results A total of 354 older adults participated in the survey.Four items,namely larger font size,simpler operation process,scheduled medication reminders and reliable hardware,were classified as must-be attributes;three items,namely searching drug instructions through WeChat,more sensitive system and longer battery life,as attractive attributes;one item,viewing disease-related information through WeChat,as the one-dimensional attribute;and the rest were indifferent attributes,including simple and beautiful displays,blocking advertisements automatically,providing user privacy protection protocol,viewing personal medical information only by logged-in users,recording all the medications,ordering medications through WeChat.The satisfaction values were between 0.24 and 0.69,and dissatisfaction values were between 0.06 and 0.94.Conclusion This study suggested that older adults had personalized technology demands.Including their technological demands and desire may assist in decreasing the digital divide and promoting the satisfaction of e-health and/or m-health.Based on older adults’demands,our study proposed optimization schemes of the intelligent medication administration system,which may help developers design geriatric-friendly intelligent products and nurses to perform older adults-centered and efficient medication management.展开更多

This paper depicts the reflective teaching process of my ten years of experience of teaching intercultural communication.The paper describes how the teacher systematically reflects on the practice of teaching,continuously revises the curriculum, and finally formulates an efficient model of integrating students’ personal experiences into developing students’ intercultural communicative competence and awareness. This reflective study attempts to provide some pedagogical implications for intercultural communication education.
文摘In this paper, we define mobile cloud computing and describe how it can be used for delivering advanced any-media services to both nomadic and mobile users. We focus on service delivery that is localized and personalized and suggest that virtualization and tighter cross-layer communication allows for convergence and seamless transition of services. These are also creating new and never-before seen ways of developing and delivering personalized any-media services. We discuss current paradigms for implementing cloud-based any-media services that generate revenue. Future research topics and requirements for evolving network and service elements are also discussed.

文摘In this paper, investigation has been done in the computer simulation of the electrostatic coupling IBC by using the developed finite-element models, in which a.the incidence and reflection of electronic signal in the upper arm model were analyzed by using the theory of electromagnetic wave;b.the finite-element models of electrostatic coupling IBC were developed by using the electromagnetic analysis package of ANSYS software;c.the signal attenuation of electrostatic coupling IBC were simulated under the conditions of different signal frequencies, electrodes directions, electrodes sizes and transmission distances. Finally, some important conclusions are deduced on the basis of simulation results.
文摘This comprehensive study investigates the multifaceted impact of AI-powered personalization on strategic communications, delving deeply into its opportunities, challenges, and future directions. Employing a rigorous mixed-methods approach, we conduct an in-depth analysis of the effects of AI-driven personalization on audience engagement, brand perception, and conversion rates across various industries and communication channels. Our findings reveal that while AI-powered personalization significantly enhances communication effectiveness and offers unprecedented opportunities for audience connection, it also raises critical ethical considerations and implementation challenges. The study contributes substantially to the growing body of literature on AI in communications, offering both theoretical insights and practical guidelines for professionals navigating this rapidly evolving landscape. Furthermore, we propose a novel framework for ethical AI implementation in strategic communications and outline a robust agenda for future research in this dynamic field.

文摘The rapid development of personal health records(PHR)systems enables an individual to collect,create,store and share his PHR to authorized entities.Health care systems within the smart city environment require a patient to share his PRH data with a multitude of institutions’repositories located in the cloud.The cloud computing paradigm cannot meet such a massive transformative healthcare systems due to drawbacks including network latency,scalability and bandwidth.Fog computing relieves the load of conventional cloud computing by availing intermediate fog nodes between the end users and the remote servers.Assuming a massive demand of PHR data within a ubiquitous smart city,we propose a secure and fog assisted framework for PHR systems to address security,access control and privacy concerns.Built under a fog-based architecture,the proposed framework makes use of efficient key exchange protocol coupled with ciphertext attribute based encryption(CP-ABE)to guarantee confidentiality and fine-grained access control within the system respectively.We also make use of digital signature combined with CP-ABE to ensure the system authentication and users privacy.We provide the analysis of the proposed framework in terms of security and performance.
文摘Engineers are very much part of the ongoing globalization and they are encountering problems of cross-disciplinary nature Team working skills respecting other peoples' qualifications are required so therefore interpersonal skills are becoming more and more important, including communications skills, leadership and awareness. Consequently, educational programs for teaching engineers should work with the fact that the capability of communicating with people with different background competences is important, nevertheless the engineering education has traditionally focused on technical skills rather than on personal development. In order to reform the B.Sc. courses to guide students to become better and more efficient engineers on all levels, the DTU (Technical University of Denmark) and Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences (Metropolia) modified their education according to the CDIO (conceive, design, implement and operate) approach in the autumn of 2008. The CDIO pedagogy encouraged to develop an interactive course in interpersonal skills, where the students have to take an active part in the exercises as well as involve themselves in the interactive communication process. The course consists of various exercises from which the participants will develop their awareness and knowledge of communication. It is the intention to give the students a personal understanding and idea of a different approach to communicating between people. The students evaluated the course, and the four key questions dealing with the quality of the course show a very high satisfaction with the instruction. The grades one and two (1 best/very much, 5 worst/very little) of the responses "to these four questions are ranging on average from 69.5% to 88% (on a yearly basis). The positive responses indicate that the students are very satisfied with the course recognizing the need for education on international communication.
文摘The spread of social media has increased contacts of members of communities on the lntemet. Members of these communities often use account names instead of real names. When they meet in the real world, they will find it useful to have a tool that enables them to associate the faces in fiont of them with the account names they know. This paper proposes a method that enables a person to identify the account name of the person ("target") in front of him/her using a smartphone. The attendees to a meeting exchange their identifiers (i.e., the account name) and GPS information using smartphones. When the user points his/her smartphone towards a target, the target's identifier is displayed near the target's head on the camera screen using AR (augmented reality). The position where the identifier is displayed is calculated from the differences in longitude and latitude between the user and the target and the azimuth direction of the target from the user. The target is identified based on this information, the face detection coordinates, and the distance between the two. The proposed method has been implemented using Android terminals, and identification accuracy has been examined through experiments.
文摘Background: Pharmacists must adjust their distance from patients to facilitate communication during interviews and gain their trust. The distance between the patients and the pharmacists varies depending on many factors, such as gender, posture and the patients’ mood. Only a few of these papers have actually measured and validated distance with patients. In this study, we validated our method of assessing mood and measuring distance before beginning a survey with patients. Methods: We measured comfortable interpersonal distance among men and women using an ecological scenario, in which a pharmacist approaches the subject, and the subject is asked to stop the pharmacist at the distance he/she feel comfortable with. Five pharmacists and 33 subjects participated in the study. The Japanese version of the Brief Mood Questionnaire Checklists (BMC-J) was used to quantify the subject’s mood for the day, and then the distance from the pharmacist that the subjects considered comfortable was measured at the bedside. The relationship between the mood and distance obtained was examined. Results: The comfortable distance of subjects was influenced by gender, posture, and mood. The shortest distance was 94.7 ± 11.1 cm (mean ± SD), for the male subjects versus the female pharmacists in the sitting position. The distance of male subjects shorted when they had positive emotions and lengthened when they were worried. Female subjects maintained a long distance from both male and female pharmacists when they had positive emotions and a short distance when they were worried. Conclusion: Findings show that the distance changes depending on the subjects’ mood at the time of measurement. It was found that the present measurement method can be used to determine the psychological state of the patient and measure the comfort distance at that time, and can be used as a simple method to examine these relationships. Therefore, it is also considered a practical method for the next step, which is a clinical study on patients.
文摘A novel cellular architecture model is proposed, in which a cell coverage isdivided into annular zones by means of vertically multi-beam-splitting of base antenna for betterperformance. In this paper, the characteristics of handover in this cellular model are studied withthe emphasis on the handover initiation probability, where the distance between the MS and the BS isused as a criterion. Simulation results show that the new model is attractive on reducing handoverprobability compared with the traditional sectoring cells.

文摘Objectives Gerontechnology has great potential in promoting older adults’well-being.With the accelerated aging process,gerontechnology has a promising market prospect.However,most technological developers and healthcare professionals attached importance to products’effectiveness,and ignored older adults’demands and user experience,which reduced older adults'adoption intention of gerontechnology use.The inclusion of older adults in the design process of technologies is essential to maximize the effect.This study explored older adults’demands for a self-developed intelligent medication administration system and proposed optimization schemes,thus providing reference to developing geriatric-friendly technologies and products.Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted to explore older adults’technological demands for the self-developed intelligent medication administration system,and data were analyzed based on the Kano model.A self-made questionnaire was administered from July 2020 to October 2020 after participants used this system for two weeks.The study was registered with the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry(ChiCTR2000040644).Results A total of 354 older adults participated in the survey.Four items,namely larger font size,simpler operation process,scheduled medication reminders and reliable hardware,were classified as must-be attributes;three items,namely searching drug instructions through WeChat,more sensitive system and longer battery life,as attractive attributes;one item,viewing disease-related information through WeChat,as the one-dimensional attribute;and the rest were indifferent attributes,including simple and beautiful displays,blocking advertisements automatically,providing user privacy protection protocol,viewing personal medical information only by logged-in users,recording all the medications,ordering medications through WeChat.The satisfaction values were between 0.24 and 0.69,and dissatisfaction values were between 0.06 and 0.94.Conclusion This study suggested that older adults had personalized technology demands.Including their technological demands and desire may assist in decreasing the digital divide and promoting the satisfaction of e-health and/or m-health.Based on older adults’demands,our study proposed optimization schemes of the intelligent medication administration system,which may help developers design geriatric-friendly intelligent products and nurses to perform older adults-centered and efficient medication management.
