The transmission characteristics of the optical label switching system based on the FSK/ASK orthogonal modulation format is investigated. The factors that affect the transmission performance, such as the FSK tone space, dispersion compensation and coupler split ratio, are studied by numerical simulation. The proposed scheme is also experimentally demonstrated with a transmission of 155 Mbit/s FSK label combined with 10 Gbit/s ASK payload. 展开更多

Optical beating is the usual approach to generation of microwave signals.However,the highest frequency achievable for microwave signals is limited by the bandwidths of optoelectronic devices.To maximize the microwave frequency with a limited bandwidth of a photodetector(PD)and relieve the bandwidth bottleneck,we propose to generate microwave signals with the single sideband(SSB)format by beating a continuous wave(CW)light with an optical SSB signal.By simply adjusting the frequency diference between the CW light and the carrier of the optical SSB signal,the frequency of the generated microwave SSB signal is changed correspondingly.In the experiment,amplitude shift keying(ASK)microwave signals with the SSB format are successfully generated with diferent carrier frequencies and coding bit rates,and the recovered coding information agrees well with the original pseudo random binary sequence(PRBS)of 2^(7)−1 bits.The proposed approach can signifcantly relieve the bandwidth restriction set by optoelectronic devices in high-speed microwave communication systems. 展开更多

A novel optical return zero differential quadrature phase shifted keying/inverse return zero amplitude shifted keying (RZ-DQPSFUIRZ-ASK) orthogonal modulation format scheme for all-optical label swapping is analyzed theoretically and experimentally. The transmission characteristics of RZ-DQPSK/IRZ-ASK modulation format transmission system are demonstrated. Results show that high extinction ratio is obtained for IRZ-ASK label signal while at the same time the all-optical label swapping, differential quadrature phase shifted keying (DQPSK) payload signal is hardly affected. It requires only 0.9 dB higher power penalty compared to 21.4 Gbit/s RZ-DQPSK modulation format and less than 2 dB transmission penalty after 60 km. The proposed scheme is a practical solution for meeting the data rate and cost-efficiency of the optical links simultaneously in future all-optical label swapping. 展开更多

Traditional Amplitude Phase Shift Keying (APSK) consists of rings with points uniformly spaced. By giving up this uniform-spacing feature, we propose an APSK optimization method based on the uniform APSK with Gray labeling (Gray-APSK). The aim of the optimization is to maximize the Generalized Mutual Information (GMI) of Bit-Interleaved Coded Modulation (BICM) for the targeted code rate and channel. We show that our optimized non-uniform APSK could offer further performance gain compared with the conventional uniform Gray-APSK and considerably outperforms the traditional quadrature amplitude modulation at the targeted SNR and channel. 展开更多
