The appearance frequencies of successive base sequences (key sequences) were calculated for entire genomes. Based on the appearance frequency of the key sequences of the genome, any DNA sequences on the genome could be expressed as a sequence spectrum with the adjoining base sequences, which could be used to study the corresponding biological phenomena. In this paper, we used 64 successive three- base sequences (triplets) as the key sequences, and determined and compared the spectra of specific genes to the chromosome, or specific genes to tRNA genes in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Schizosaccharomyces pombe and Escherichia coli. Based on these analyses, a gene and its corresponding position on the chromosome showed highly similar spectra with the same fold enlargement (approximately 400-fold) in the S. cerevisiae, S. pombe and E. coli genomes. In addition, the homologous structure of genes that encode proteins was also observed with appropriate tRNA gene(s) in the genome. This analytical method might faithfully reflect the encoded biological information, that is, the conservation of the base sequences was to make sense the conservation of the translated amino acids sequence in the coding region, and might be universally applicable to other genomes, even those that consisted of multiple chromosomes.展开更多

The path integral solution is based on the Ganss-Legendre interpolation scheme, and the values of the response probability density are obtained at the Gauss quadrature points in sub-intervals. It is demonstrated that a distinct advantage of the path integral solution is that the joint probability density of the response displacement and velocity is one of the by products of the calculations. This makes it possible to calculate the mean level up-crossing rates, which provides estimates of the exceedance probabilities of specified response levels for given time periods.展开更多

The first two steps dealing with fault rupture propagation in the free-field were presented in the companion paper. This paper develops an approximate analytical method to analyze soil-foundation-structure interaction (SFSI), involving two additional phenomena: (i) fault rupture diversion (Step 3); and (ii) modification of the vertical displacement profile (Step 4). For the first phenomenon (Step 3), an approximate energy-based approach is developed to estimate the diversion of a fault rupture due to presence of a raft foundation. The normalized critical load for complete diversion is shown to be a function of soil strength, coefficient of earth pressure at rest, bedrock depth, and the horizontal position of the foundation relative to the outcropping fault rupture. For the second phenomenon (Step 4), a heuristic approach is proposed, which "scans" through possible equilibrium positions to detect the one that best satisfies force and moment equilibrium. Thus, we account for the strong geometric nonlinearities that govern this interaction, such as uplifting and second order (P-△) effects. Comparisons with centrifuge-validated finite element analyses demonstrate the efficacy of the method. Its simplicity makes possible its utilization for preliminary design.展开更多

This solution is based on a series of analytical models developed from elastic-plastic mechanism theories for different structural components, including bottom girders, floors, bottom plating, and attached stiffeners. We verify this simplified analytical model by numerical simulation, and establish finite element models for a typical tanker hold and a rigid indenter representing seabed obstacles. Employing the LS-DYNA finite element solver, we conduct numerical simulations for shoal-grounding cases with a wide range of slope angles and indentation depths. In comparison with numerical simulations, we verify the proposed simplified analytical model with respect to the total energy dissipation and the horizontal grounding resistance. We also investigate the interaction effect of deformation patterns between bottom structure components. Our results show that the total energy dissipation and resistances predicted by the analytical model agree well with those from numerical simulations.展开更多

The numerical method employed is a combination of the time domain semi-analytical boundary element method (SBEM) used for the semi-infinite soil medium and the semi-analytical finite element method (SFEM) used for the three-dimensional structure. The two methods are combined through equilibrium and compatibility conditions at the soil-structure interface. Displacements, velocities, accelerations and interaction forces at the interface between underground structure and soil medium produced by the diffraction of wave by an underground structure for every time step are obtained. In dynamic soil-structure interaction problems, it is advantageous to combine the SBEM and the SFEM in an effort to produce an optimum numerical hybrid scheme which is characterized by the main advantages of the two methods. The effects of the thickness, the ratio of length and diameter of underground structure and the soil medium on dynamic responses are discussed.展开更多

The optimized conditions for the fabrication of the thin films were investigated for different types of fullerene derivatives: [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester, [6,6]-phenyl-C71-butyric acid methyl ester, and indene-C60-monoadduct. The spray diameter during the ESD process was observed as a function of the supply rate achieved by changing the applied voltage. In all cases, the spray diameter increased with increasing applied voltage, reaching the maximum diameter (Dmax) in the voltage range 4 to 6 kV. It was clear that Dmax was influenced by the dipole moments of the fullerene derivatives (as calculated by density functional theory methods). Scanning electron microscopy observation of the?fabricated thin films showed that imbricated structures were formed through the stacking of the fullerene-derivative sheets. Atomic force microscopy images revealed that the density of the imbricated structure was dependent on the spray diameter during the ESD process, and the root-mean-square roughness of the film surface decreased with increasing applied voltage. These findings suggest that the ESD method will be effective for the preparation of fullerene-derivative thin films for the production of organic devices.展开更多

With appropriate mathematical treatments, the apparent numerical difficulties associated with singularities in computing elliptic integrals are completely removed. Using a boundary element discretization procedure, the governing equations are transformed into a linear algebra matrix equation that can be solved by straightforward Gauss elimination in one step without further iterations. The numerical code implemented according to our algorithm can accurately determine the surface mass density distribution in a disk galaxy from a measured rotation curve (or vice versa). For a disk galaxy with a typical flat rotation curve, our modeling results show that the surface mass density monotonically decreases from the galactic center toward the periphery, according to Newtonian dynamics. In a large portion of the galaxy, the surface mass density follows an approximately exponential law of decay with respect to the galactic radial coordinate. Yet the radial scale length for the surface mass density seems to be generally larger than that of the measured brightness distribution, suggesting an increasing mass-tolight ratio with the radial distance in a disk galaxy. In a nondimensionalized form, our mathematical system contains a dimensionless parameter which we call the "galactic rotation number" that represents the gross ratio of centrifugal force and gravitational force. The value of this galactic rotation number is determined as part of the numerial solution. Through a systematic computational analysis, we have illustrated that the galactic rotation number remains within 4-10% of 1.70 for a wide variety of rotation curves. This implies that the total mass in a disk galaxy is proportional to V02 Rg, with V0 denoting the characteristic rotation velocity (such as the "flat" value in a typical ro- tation curve) and Rg the radius of the galactic disk. The predicted total galactic mass of the Milky Way is in good agreement with the star-count data.展开更多

The approach is exponentially convergent and more efficient than the hyperspherical coordinate method and the correlation-function hyperspherical harmonic method. This approach is numerically competitive with the variational methods, such as that using the Hylleraas-type basis functions. Numerical comparisons are made to demonstrate the efficiency of this approach, by calculating the nonrelativistic and infinite-nuclear-mass limit of the ground state energy of the helium atom. The exponential convergency of this approach is due to the full matching between the analytical structure of the basis functions that are used in this paper and the true wavefunction. This full matching was not reached by most other methods. For example, the variational method using the Hylleraas-type basis does not reflects the logarithmic singularity of the true wavefunction at the origin as predicted by Bartlett and Fock. Two important approaches are proposed in this work to reach this full matching: the coordinate transformation method and the asymptotic series method. Besides these, this work makes use of the least square method to substitute complicated numerical integrations in solving the Schr?dinger equation without much loss of accuracy, which is routinely used by people to fit a theoretical curve with discrete experimental data, but here is used to simplify the computation.展开更多

The predicted total galactic mass of the Milky Way is in good agreement with the star-count data.

文摘Based on the extended homogeneous capacity high precision integration method and the spectrum method of virtual boundary with a complex radius vector, a novel semi-analytical method, which has satisfactory computation efectiveness and precision, is presented for solving the acoustic radiation from a submerged infnite non-circular cylindrical shell stifened by longitudinal ribs by means of the Fourier integral transformation and stationary phase method. In this work, besides the normal interacting force, which is commonly adopted by some researchers, the other interacting forces and moments between the longitudinal ribs and the non-circular cylindrical shell are considered at the same time. The efects of the number and the size of the cross-section of longitudinal ribs on the characteristics of acoustic radiation are investigated. Numerical results show that the method proposed is more efcient than the existing mixed FE-BE method.

文摘Time-dependent behaviors due to various mismatch strains are very important to the reliability of micro-/nano-devices.This paper aims at presenting an analytical model to study the viscoelastic stress relaxation of the laminated microbeam caused by mismatch strain.Firstly,Zhang’s two-variable method is used to establish a mechanical model for predicting the quasi-static stress relaxation of the laminated microbeam.Secondly, the related analytical solutions are obtained by combining the differential method and the eigenvalue method in the temporal domain. Finally, the influence of the substrateto-film thickness/modulus ratio on the relaxation responses of the laminated microbeam subject to a step load of the mismatch strain is studied. The results show that the present predictions are consistent with the previous theoretical studies.Furthermore, the thickness dependence of stress relaxation time of the laminated microbeam is jointly determined by the intrinsic structural evolution factors and tension-bending coupling state;the stress relaxation time can be controlled by adjusting the substrate-to-film thickness/modulus ratio.
文摘A powerful approach to solve the Coulombic quantum three-body problem is proposed. Besides these, this work makes use of the least square method to substitute complicated numerical integrations in solving the Schr?dinger equation without much loss of accuracy, which is routinely used by people to fit a theoretical curve with discrete experimental data, but here is used to simplify the computation.
