In order to promote the exchange of Chinese culture with foreign countries, translators bear an important mission in the process of cross-cultural communication.Although there are cultural differences,we can achieve cultural dissemination and exchange through continuous cultural dialogue. As an important way for foreign scholars to understand the history of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties in China, the translation of historical texts is crucial.Multiple typical cases are selected under the guidance of the translation theory of compensation to use relevant methods or techniques from the three levels of language, culture, and aesthetics to compensate for the loss of Li Xueqin’s The Origin of Ancient Chinese Civilization in English translation proofreading. 展开更多

The 3D digitalization and documentation of ancient Chinese architecture is challenging because of architectural complexity and structural delicacy. To generate complete and detailed models of this architecture,it is better to acquire, process, and fuse multi-source data instead of single-source data.In this paper,we describe our work on 3D digital preservation of ancient Chinese architecture based on multi source data.We first briefly introduce two surveyed ancient Chinese temples,Foguang Temple and Nanchan Temple. Then,we report the data acquisition equipment we used and the multi-source data we acquired. Finally,we provide an overview of several applications we conducted based on the acquired data, including ground and aerial image fusion, image and LiDAR(light detection and ranging)data fusion, and architectural scene surface reconstruction and semantic modeling. We believe that it is necessary to involve multi-source data for the 3D digital preservation of ancient Chinese architecture, and that the work in this paper will serve as a heuristic guideline for the related research communities. 展开更多

Air exploratory discussion of an ancient Chinese algorithm, the Ying Buzu Shu, in about 2nd century BC, known as the rule of double false position in the West is given. In addition to pointing out that the rule of double false position is actually a translation version of the ancient Chinese algorithm, a comparison with well-known Newton iteration method is also made. If derivative is introduced, the ancient Chinese algorithm reduces to the Newton method. A modification of the ancient Chinese algorithm is also proposed, and some of applications to nonlinear oscillators are illustrated. 展开更多

Geomancy has long been neglected in the geographical circle in China because it was simply treated as superstition and its geographical value was not recognized correctly So, from the angle of geography (both physical and human geography), this treatise analyses the geographical thoughts and value of geomancy, expounds the relationship between it and the ancient Chinese geography and makes the former position in the latter clear It is pointed out that: (1) There were two levels of geographytheoretical geography and applied geography, and three main cluesofficial geography, scholar's geography and folk geography in the development of ancient Chinese geography (2) However, although usually interacted, the above three main clues of the ancient Chinese geography had their own specific features respectively and had never become a synthetic geography (3) As to geomancy, it existed among all these kinds of ancient Chinese geography, but mainly belonged to the level of applied geography and was embodied in the folk geography essentially (4) There were plenty of geographical thoughts in geomancy, especially in the respect of practice It had special, unreplacable effect on the transformation of the natural landscape and creation of the human landscape in China 展开更多

Novelist has a mission to shape the characters. The reason that Chinese classic novels have amazing artistic charm and immortal literary value ultimately lies in the diverse and distinctive characters that created by the author. From Jingwei and Kua Fu in the early myths to Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu in classical novels of mature period, the characters have been talked about for many years. Through the typical image, the author deduces a section of joys and sorrows to the reader, showing the bizarre society. When making interpretation of characters in the ancient novel, we should both root in the social context but also pay attention to authors' appraise attitude. Because contemporary readers can not be out of real background, and also be allowed to make a reasonable re-interpretation, in order to make a more accurate, objective and comprehensive grasp of the characters in classical novels. 展开更多

The topic can be summarized in three interconnected aspects; historical starting point, contemporary vision, and world insight. The historical starting point requires the study of ancient Chinese capitals to abide by rigid academic principles and must be based on historical facts. Contemporary vision refers to the obligation to contribute to contemporary society and civilization through ancient Chinese capital research. World insight expresses our need of an integral and systematic concept to correctly assess the historical status and role of ancient Chinese capitals in the larger context to unveil the unique cultural values and historical significance of ancient capitals across China. Chengdu is an ideal case for us to explore new research approaches from the above three aspects. 展开更多

Graphics is also a kind of semiotic system of writing. China boasts of rich tradition of graphics with amazing architectural drawings in Pre-Qin period, booming theories of graphics in Wei and Jin Dynasties, refined protracted drawings in Song and Yuan Dynasties, and graphics being regarded as important instruments in Ming and Qing Dynasties when thorough apprehension were pursued in order to seek the practice of administration. In recent years,“aesthetics of atmospheres,”a concept introduced from Western aesthetics, has emerged in aesthetic studies, offering a new perspective to examine ancient Chinese poetry. In poetry, atmospheric beauty is neither fixed nor rationalized;rather,it is pervasive and ubiquitous, much like a mist.Atmosphere is something spatial but primarily something emotional.Atmosphere creation is the products of a poet’s emotional expression evoked by external objects;thus,evocation(gan-xing)is a catalyst for creating atmospheres. At its core, evocation is the process by which a poet is emotionally stimulated at the sight of external objects and generates a desire to express such emotions. In this process, the poet is connected with the outside world through senses such as sight and hearing and is presented with abundant physical images. When these physical images are incorporated into poems, they become atmospheric agents. In poetry, atmospheres represent the unity of emotions and intentions. They are a poet’s situational aesthetic experiences. The statement,“If there is no self in poetry, how can we possibly have poetry”holds significant theoretical importance in aesthetics.Synesthesia plays a crucial role during the creation of atmospheric beauty in poetry.By employing synesthesia,a poet can greatly enhance the tension in poetic language, extending the poetic beauty beyond a singular sensory experience, and creating rich atmospheres that blend sensations such as sound, color, and taste. 展开更多

A harmonious culture is not supposed to be a monologue of one voice but a dialogue of many voices. Chinese ancient culture doesn't mean one-dimensional notion of nature transforming to human like that in western philosophy, but means the hiding and dialogue between the nature and the human body. Specifically, Wen hua just means a dialogue based on the body. Heaven Unitfied With the Human and Complement of Confucianism and Taoism provide this opinion.
