By orthogonal experiment,the best extraction conditions of total flavonoids from fruits and leaves of P. mume Sieb. et Zucc. were determined,and reducing ability of the extracted total flavonoids and its DPPH and ABTS scavenging abilities were explored. [Results] The best extraction technology conditions: solid-liquid ratio of 1∶ 50,ethanol concentration of 50%,extraction time of 2. 5 h,extraction temperature of 85 ℃,two-time extraction. By detecting DPPH and ABTS scavenging abilities of total flavonoids,the anti-oxidation activity of the total flavonoids from fruits and leaves of P. mume Sieb. et Zucc. was analyzed and evaluated. [Conclusions]Fruits and leaves of P. mume Sieb. et Zucc. had a certain in vitro anti-oxidation activity,and heat reflux extraction method of its total flavonoids had high extraction rate and simple and convenient operation,which had some practical value. 展开更多

[Objectives]To study content of total saponins from cultivated and wild Paris herbs in Southwest China,evaluate its in vitro antioxidation activity,and explore the correlation between quality of Paris herbs and production place,variety,cultivated and wild varieties.[Methods]Colorimetric method of perchloric acid reaction was used,and content of total saponins from Paris herbs was determined by ultraviolet spectrophotometer at 406 nm. [Results]The lowest content of total saponins from cultivated and wild Paris herbs in Southwest China was0. 55%,while the maximum was 12. 24%,with obvious difference. Total saponins from Paris herbs had stronger clearance ability on free radical DPPH and stronger reduction ability on Fe^(3+),and the results showed good dose-effect relationship with concentration. Among them,S6 had the highest clearance ability on DPPH,which reached 89. 66%. In the determination of reduction ability,the absorbance of S16 reached3. 643 and was the highest,with very good reducing property. Content and anti-oxidation capacity of total saponins from Paris herbs in Southwest China did not have obvious correlation with production place,altitude and cultivation but was related to variety. [Conclusions]The quality of Paris herbs in Southwest China was unstable,and their anti-oxidation abilities were also different,and cultivation could not guarantee high quality. It should normalize cultivation,and develop planting industry of Paris herbs,which could guarantee stable supply of Paris herbs and stability and controllability of quality. 展开更多

Vahl, Lianqiao in Chinese, is one of the most fundamental herbs in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with heat-clearing and detoxicating properties. In this study, we aimed to study the antitumor activity of Lianqiao aqueous extract against melanoma using cancer cell line-based in vitro and mouse allografl tumor in vivo models. Furthermore, we also investigated the underlying molecular mechanisms, par- ticularly the involvement of anti-inflammation and anti-oxidation properties in its antitumor activity. Methods The proliferation of cancer cells was measured by MTT assay. The transplanted B16-F10 melanoma in C57BL/6 mice were established and used for the evaluation of in vivo antitumor effect of LQ. Tumor growth was monitored twice a week. Ki67 and CD31 were used to detect cancer cell proliferation and angiogenesis in tumor, respectively. The anti-oxidative property of LQ was determined by measuring the levels of ROS, MDA and GSH. The anti-inflamma- tory effect of LQ was evaluated by measuring TNF-α and IL-6 using ELISA kits. Other protein expression was deter- mined by Western Blot. Results LQ strongly inhibited the growth of B16-F10 cells in vitro and the tumor growth in vivo. The survival time of tumor-bearing mice was significantly prolonged by LQ. LQ inhibited cancer cell prolif- eration and angiogenesis in tumor as evidenced by decreased expressions of Ki67 and CD31. Levels of ROS, MDA TNF-α and IL-6 decreased, while GSH increased in LQ treatment group, indicating a strong anti-oxidative and an- ti-inflammatory activity of LQ. The expression of antioxidant proteins Nff-2 and HO-1, tumor suppressors P53 and p-PTEN, and the MAPK pathways in tumor tissues were upregulated by LQ treatment. Conclusions LQ exhibited strong antitumor activity against B16-F10 murine melanoma both in vitro and in vivo. The antitumor effect of LQ in- volved the decreased oxidative stress and inflammation in tumor, which is closely related to the heat-clearing and detoxicating properties of LQ. 展开更多

Stoichiometric and silicon-rich(Si-rich) SiC films were deposited by microwave electron cyclotron resonance(MWECR) plasma enhanced RF magnetron sputtering method.As-deposited films were oxidized at 800℃,900 ℃,and 1000 ℃in air for 60 min.The chemical composition and structure of the films were analyzed by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),Raman spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR).The surface morphology of the films before and after the high temperature oxidation was measured by atomic force microscopy.The mechanical property of the films was measured by a nano-indenter.The anti-oxidation temperature of the Si-rich SiC film is 100 ℃ higher than that of the stoichiometric SiC film.The oxidation layer thickness of the Si-rich SiC film is thinner than that of the stoichiometric SiC film in depth direction.The large amount of extra silicon in the Si-rich SiC film plays an important role in the improvement of its high temperature anti-oxidation property. 展开更多

Background:Predicting the possibility of severe effects of global warming on animals is important for understanding the ecological consequences of climate change on ecosystem.Spring is the season during which birds have to physiologically prepare for the subsequent breeding period,and unusual spring temperature rising probably becomes a heat stress to the birds which have adapted to the low spring temperature.Therefore,it is necessary to understand the physiological effect of spring warming on the temperate birds.Methods:Using the activities of blood anti-oxidative enzymes(SOD,CAT,GPx)and the concentrations of serum immunogloblins(IgA,IgY,IgM)as indicators,we compared the anti-oxidative and immune functions of Asian Shorttoed Larks(Calandrella cheleensis)captured between 10 and 15 March,2015 and housed under conditions of 21°C and 16°C.Results:The SOD activities of birds in 21°C group were significantly lower than those in 16°C group on all the treatment days.The CAT activities of the birds in 21°C group were significantly lower than those in 16°C group on the 1 st,5 th,13 th,17 treatment days.The GPx activities of the birds in 21°C group were signifthicantly lower than those in 16°C group on the 1 st,13 th and 17 th,but significantly higher on the 21 st treatment day.The IgA,IgY and IgM concentrations of birds in 21°C group were significantly lower than those in 16°C group on all the treatment days.Conclusions:This study shows that spring temperature rising negatively influences antioxibative and humoral immune functions,which indicates that spring climate warming might reduce the fitness of the temperate passerine birds which have adapted to the low spring temperature. 展开更多

A new type of lubricating material(BTA-P_(4444)-Lig)was synthesized by combining lignin with tetrabutylphosphorus and benzotriazole.The tribological properties,corrosion resistance,and anti-oxidation properties of BTA-P_(4444)-Lig as a lubricant were investigated.The lubricating material exhibits excellent friction reduction and wear resistance,as well as good thermal stability and excellent oxidation resistance.Mechanistic analysis reveals that the active elements N and P in the lubricating material react with the metal substrate,and the reaction film effectively blocks direct contact between the friction pairs,affording excellent friction reduction and wear resistance.At the same time,the phenolic hydroxyl group in lignin reacts with oxygen free radicals to form a resonance-stable semi-quinone free radical,which interrupts the chain reaction and affords good anti-oxidant activity. 展开更多

Oxidative stress disturbs the balance between the production of reactive oxygen species(ROS)and the detoxification biological process.It plays an important role in the development and progression of many chronic diseases.Upon exposure to oxidative stress or the inducers of ROS,the cellular nucleus undergoes some biological processes via different signaling pathways,such as stress adaption through the forkhead box O signaling pathway,inflammatory response through the IκB kinase/nuclear factor-κB signaling pathway,hypoxic response via the hypoxia-inducible factor/prolyl hydroxylase domain proteins pathway,DNA repair or apoptosis through the p53 signaling pathway,and antioxidant response through the Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1/nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 signaling pathway.These processes are involved in many diseases.Therefore,oxidative stress has gained more attraction as a targeting process for disease treatment.Meanwhile,anti-oxidative stress agents have been widely explored in pre-clinical trials.However,only limited clinical trials are performed to evaluate the efficacy of anti-oxidative stress agents or antioxidants in diseases.In this letter,we further discuss the current clinical trials related to anti-oxidative stress treatment in different diseases.More pre-clinical studies and clinical trials are expected to use anti-oxidative stress strategies as disease treatment or dietary supplementation to improve disease treatment outcomes. 展开更多

Based on pot-culture experiments, the biological effect of rare-earth elements (REE) on antioxidation enzymes of wheat under acid rain stress was studied. The results show that both acid rain and REE can affect the activity of anti-oxidation enzymes of wheat to different extents. Under the acid rain stress, anti-oxidation enzymes (CAT, SOD) of wheat showed single peak curve with the decrease of pH values. After REE were applled, variation of activities of anti-oxidation enzymes was relatively stable and the peak value of variation curve would move in the direction of increased acidity. Under low acidity of acid rain, REE could reduce the sensitivity of anti-oxidation enzymes of wheat to acid rain stress significantly and promote the resistance of anti-oxidation enzymes of wheat to acid rain. 展开更多

In this paper,by proposing a novel and low-cost Ag salt paste,a robustly and large-area(35×35 mm^(2))bare Cu to Cu bonding was realized under a low sintering pressure of 0.8 MPa and a low sintering temperature of 300℃ in air atmospheric conditions.The relationship between the bonding strength and microstructure changes of sintered Ag under various bonding conditions was investigated in detail.The large-area bonded plate exhibits low porosity about 10%and low percentage of voids,which result in ultra-high bonding strength over 58 MPa.More importantly,the introduction of reducing agent formic acid(CH_(2)O_(2))and the low porosity successfully improve the anti-oxidation of novel Ag salt paste during sintering process,result in pure Cu-Ag-Cu bonding.The cross-section of the Ag joints was obtained to explain the bonding pattern,in which Cu was oxidized only at the edge of the sintering interface,and no Cu oxide generated in middle bonding section.The development of novel Ag salt paste successfully addresses the energy-intensive process and low bonding strength faced by large-scale sintering,which greatly promotes the high-temperature applications of power device. 展开更多

Reducing the inflammatory response is a major goal in the therapy of rheumatoid arthritis(RA).Herein,we integrated palladium nanoparticles(Pd NPs)with selenium nanoparticles(Se NPs)and obtained a multiple nanosystem(Pd@Se-HA NPs)that could simultaneously scavenge hydroxyl radicals(·OH)and provide a photothermal effect.The Pd@Se-HA NPs were constructed by a simple selfassembly method in which Se NPs were electrostatically bonded to Pd NPs;hyaluronic acid(HA)was linked to the NPs by ester bonding to provide macrophage targeting ability.The experiments show that the combined therapy of eliminating·OH with Se NPs and utilizing PTT with Pd NPs could effectively reduce the inflammatory response in macrophages more effectively than either individual NP treatment.In addition,the outer layer of HA could specifically target the CD44 receptor to enhance the accumulation of Pd@Se NPs at the lesion,further enhancing the therapeutic effect.After treatment for 15 days,the Pd@Se-HA NPs nearly eliminated the inflammatory response in the joints of mice in an induced RA model,and prevented joint damage and degradation. 展开更多

Atomic-layered hexagonal boron nitride(hBN)is expected to be the best two-dimensional(2D)anti-oxidation layer on metals for its incomparable impermeability,insulativity,and stability,as well as the progressive bottom-up growth techniques to ensure fast coating on metal surface in large area.However,its real anti-oxidation ability in practice is found to be unsatisfactory and nonuniform,and the main obstacle to achieving ideal anti-oxidation performance lies in unclear anti-oxidation behavior at special interface between 2D hBN and three-dimensional(3D)metals.Herein,system of monolayer hBN grown on copper(Cu)foils with various lattice orientations was grown to investigate the anti-oxidation behavior of different interlayer configurations.By using structural characterizations together with analysis of topography,we surprisingly found that stronger interlayer coupling led to worse anti-oxidation performance owing to fast diffusion of O2 through higher hBN corrugations generated at the commensurate hBN/Cu(111)configuration.In view of this,we developed the approach of cyclic reannealing that can effectively flatten corrugations and steps,and therefore improve the anti-oxidation performance to a great extent.This work provides a more indepth understanding of anti-oxidation behavior of 2D materials grown on 3D metals,and a practical method to pave the way for its large-scale applications in future. 展开更多

Objective To prepare liver-targeted baicalin solid lipid nanoparticles(BSLNs) and to study their in vitro anti-oxidative activity.Methods BSLNs were prepared by emulsification ultrasonic dispersion method and characterized by transmission electron microscopy and laser particle size distribution;The tissue in vivo distribution was detected by pharmacokinetics;In vitro anti-superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity and reduction capacity of BSLNs were determined;The ability of removing hydroxyl radical was determined by phenanthroline-Fe2+ oxidation.Results The best prescription was baicalin-soybean lecithin-glyceryl monostearate-poloxamer 188(1:5:15:30);The encapsulation efficiency and drug loading were 84.7% and 5.65%,respectively,mean size of particles was(68.6 ± 8) nm,Zeta potential was 22.13 mV;The in vitro anti-oxidant results showed that BSLNs had a significant inhibitory effect on SOD and a strong reducing capacity as well as a removing hydroxide radical ability.The targeting rate of BSLNs was 6.931 for liver.Conclusion The results demonstrate that BSLNs could enhance the liver targeting ability and in vitro anti-oxidative activity significantly. 展开更多

In this work,the microstructure,hydrogen storage properties,anti-oxide ability and rate limiting step of Zr(Cr_(1−x)Co_(x))_(2)(x=0,0.2,0.4 and 0.6)alloys have been investigated.After studying the crystal structure,we found that all alloy samples could show C14-type phase but the alloy sample x=0 could also show a small amount of Cr phase.Rietveld fitting showed that lattice parameter and unit cell volume of C14-type phase decreased with increasing x.After further research,it was clear that the first hydrogen absorption capacity decreased with increasing x.But introducing more Co content had a positive influence on the effective hydrogen storage capacity and cyclic hydrogen absorption and desorption properties of the alloy sample.We also found that adding Co to ZrCr_(2)alloy could improve its anti-oxide ability.In addition to this,the rate limiting step model was also studied. 展开更多

Resveratrol(RSV),as a functional food component extracted from natural plants,has been widely studied and recognized in preventing and treating various diseases,with major mechanisms including executing anti-inflammation and anti-oxidation functions,and improving mitochondrial quality.Chronic diseases as non-communicable diseases are mainly caused by multiple factors,such as physiological decline and dysfunction in the body,and have become a significant challenge on public health worldwide.It is worth noting that chronic diseases such as Alzheimer's disease(AD),Parkinson's disease(PD),muscle atrophy,cardiovascular disease,obesity,and cancer are accompanied by abnormal mitochondrial function.Therefore,targeted regulation of mitochondria may be a meaningful way to prevent and treat chronic diseases.Increasing evidence has confirmed that RSV is actively involved in regulating mitochondria,and it has become an essential consideration to prevent and treat chronic diseases through targeting mitochondria and improving corresponding functions.In this article,current studies on RSV to optimize mitochondrial quality for preventing and alleviating chronic disease are systematically summarized,which can provide a theoretical reference for the development of functional foods or drugs to combat chronic diseases. 展开更多

Our previous studies revealed that etomidate, a non-barbiturate intravenous anesthetic agent, has protective effects on retinal ganglion cells within 7 days after optic nerve transection. Whether this process is related to anti-oxidative stress is not clear. To reveal its mechanism, we established the optic nerve transection injury model by transecting 1 mm behind the left eyeball of adult male Sprague-Dawley rats. The rats received an intraperitoneal injection of etomidate(4 mg/kg) once per day for 7 days. The results showed that etomidate significantly enhanced the number of retinal ganglion cells retrogradely labeled with Fluorogold at 7 days after optic nerve transection. Etomidate also significantly reduced the levels of nitric oxide and malonaldehyde in the retina and increased the level of glutathione at 12 hours after optic nerve transection. Thus, etomidate can protect retinal ganglion cells after optic nerve transection in adult rats by activating an anti-oxidative stress response. Polypehnol is an important,potentially bioactive component of Sargassum muticum.In this study,ultrasonic assisted extraction of polyphenol-rich substances was performed using a 38%ethanol solution at a solid:liquid ratio of 1:30 at 68℃ for 32min,determined by single-factor and response surface methodology(RSM)optimization.The content of polyphenol was 5.66mg/g in the crude extract.Further extraction showed that the polyphenol mainly distributed in ethyl acetate(SKEE)and water phases(SKEW).The anti-oxidation test by electron spin resonance(ESR)spectrum showed that the SKEE had the strongest scavenging activity on DPPH(1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl)and alkyl radicals.SKEE was shown noncytotoxic but could inhibit the generation of cellular ROS,showing protective effects in H2O2 and AAPHinduced Vero cells and UV-B irradiated HaCaT cells.SKEE also signifi cantly inhibited the release of NO of LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells.Therefore,the polyphenol-rich extracts in ethanol and ethyl acetate showed excellent anti-oxidant and anti-infl ammatory activities,which is beneficial to the development of high-value bio-substances. 展开更多

The anti oxidative activity of the hydrolysate was examined. It was found that the anti oxidative activity reached the maximum at the fourth hour of the hydrolysis and then decreased. The effect of the enzyme dosage on the solubility of corn protein, the dependence of hydrolysis time on the degree of the hydrolysis(DH) and molecular weight distribution were examined respectively. 30% DH was controlled on the basis of anti oxidative activity. The hydrolysate was fractionated on a Sephadex G 15 column. The anti oxidative activities were examined for all the fractions. The main fraction for anti oxidative activity was collected and characterized by the methods of amino acid analysis, the measurement of average chain length and etc .. The main M W distribution of the main fraction was 300-600 Daltons. The anti oxidative properties of the small peptides in vitro were studied. It was found that they could inhibit the auto oxidation of pyrogallol and the oxidation of hemoglobin. The hemolysis degree of erythrocyte caused by hydroxyl free radicals was decreased greatly, indicating a protective effect of the anti oxidative peptides on the cell membrane damage of erythrocyte. 展开更多

Objective:To evaluate the essential oils(EO) composition,antimicrobial and antioxidant power of a local plant,Daucus gracilis(D.gracilis).Methods:The aerial parts of D.gracilis were subjected to hydro distillation by a Clevenger apparatus type to obtain the EO which had been analyzed by gas chromatography and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry,and screened for antimicrobial activity against five bacteria and three fungi by agar diffusion method.The mechanism of action of the EO was determined on the susceptible strains by both of time kill assay and lysis experience.The minimal inhibitory concentrations were determined by agar macrodilution and micro-dilution methods.Anti-oxidative properties of the EO were also studied by free diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging and reducing power techniques.Results:The EO yielded 0.68(v/w).The chemical analysis presented two dominant constituents which were the elemicin(35.3%) and the geranyl acetate(26.8%).D.gracilis EO inhibited the growth of Bacillus cereus and Proteus mirabilis significantly with minimal inhibitory concentrations of 17.15 μg/mL by the agar dilution method and57.05 μg/mL and 114.1 μg/mL,respectively by liquid micro-dilution.A remarkable decrease in a survival rate as well as in the absorbance in 260 nm was recorded,which suggested that the cytoplasm membrane was one of the targets of the EO.The EO showed,also,important anti-oxidative effects with an IC50 of 0.002 mg/mL and a dosedependent reducing power.Conclusions:D.gracilis EO showed potent antimicrobial and anti-oxidative activities and had acted on the cytoplasm membrane.These activities could be exploited in the food industry for food preservation. 展开更多

Pu-erh tea, a traditional Chinese beverage, has been believed to have many benefits to human health and without side effects. In this study, we systematically analyzed the main active components of Pu-erh tea and investigated its anti-obesity, anti-atherosclerotic and anti-oxidant effects using an obese rat model. Obesity was induced by feeding a high-fat diet and subsequently the experimental obese mice were fed with high-fat diet supplemented with low (2.5%), medium (5%) or high (7.5%) doses of Pu-erh tea powder for 6 weeks respectively. As result, the body weight gain of the rats was decreased by medium and high doses of Pu-erh tea treatments. Furthermore, the levels of serum total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG) and atherosclerosis index (AI) were significantly lowered by Pu-erh tea compared to the control group. Conversely, high density lipoproteincholesterol (HDL-C) level of the rats was significantly elevated by Pu-erh tea treatments. In addition, Pu-erh tea treatments increased the activities of anti-oxidative enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxides (GSH-Px), whereas reduced the level of lipid peroxidation product malondialdehyde (MDA) in obese rats. Collectively, our find-ings revealed that Pu-erh tea exerts comprehensive benefits in anti-obesity, anti-atherosclerotic and anti-oxidant effects, therefore can be used as a promising functional food in obesity management. 展开更多
