The transient and static anti-plane problem of a rigid line inclusion pulled out from an elastic medium is studied. The singular integral equation method is used to solve the stress field.Under the static load, the stress intensity factor(SIF)at the inclusion tips increases with the medium length. The problem becomes equivalent to an inclusion in a medium with an infinite length when the length of the medium is 3.5times longer than that of the inclusion. However, under the transient load, the maximum value of the SIF occurs when the medium length is about two times the inclusion length.Besides, the relation between the pull-out force and the anti-plane displacement is given. The conclusions are useful in guiding the design of fiber reinforced composite materials. 展开更多

The present paper is exposed theoretically to the influence on the dynamic stress intensity factor (DSIF) in the piezoelectric bi-materials model with two symmet- rically permeable interracial cracks near the edges of a circular cavity, subjected to the dynamic incident anti-plane shearing wave (SH-wave). An available theoretical method to dynamic analysis in the related research field is provided. The formulations are based on Green's function method. The DSIFs at the inner and outer tips of the left crack are obtained by solving the boundary value problems with the conjunction and crack- simulation technique. The numerical results are obtained by the FORTRAN language program and plotted to show the influence of the variations of the physical parameters, the structural geometry, and the wave frequencies of incident wave on the dimensionless DSIFs. Comparisons with previous work and between the inner and outer tips are con- cluded. 展开更多

Fractional differential constitutive relationships are introduced to depict the history of dynamic stress inten- sity factors (DSIFs) for a semi-infinite crack in infinite viscoelastic material subjected to anti-plane shear impact load. The basic equations which govern the anti-plane deformation behavior are converted to a fractional wave-like equation. By utilizing Laplace and Fourier integral transforms, the fractional wave-like equation is cast into an ordinary differential equation (ODE). The unknown function in the solution of ODE is obtained by applying Fourier transform directly to the boundary conditions of fractional wave-like equation in Laplace domain instead of solving dual integral equations. Analytical solutions of DSIFs in Laplace domain are derived by Wiener-Hopf technique and the numerical solutions of DSIFs in time domain are obtained by Talbot algorithm. The effects of four parameters α, β, b1, b2 of the fractional dif- ferential constitutive model on DSIFs are discussed. The numerical results show that the present fractional differential constitutive model can well describe the behavior of DSIFs of anti-plane fracture in viscoelastic materials, and the model is also compatible with solutions of DSIFs of anti-plane fracture in elastic materials. 展开更多

For an anti-plane problem, the differential operator is self-adjoint and the corresponding eigenfunctions belong to the Hilbert space. The orthogonal property between eigenfunctions (or between the derivatives of eigenfunctions) of anti-plane problem is exploited. We developed for the first time two sets of radius-independent orthogonal integrals for extraction of stress intensity factors (SIFs), so any order SIF can be extracted based on a certain known solution of displacement (an analytic result or a numerical result). Many numerical examples based on the finite element method of lines (FEMOL) show that the present method is very powerful and efficient. 展开更多

The Trefftz BEM is based on a weighted residual formulation and indirect boundary approach. In particular the point-collocation and Galerkin techniques, in which the basic unknowns are the retained expansion coefficients in the system of complete equations, are considered. Furthermore, special Trefftz functions and auxiliary functions which satisfy exactly the specified boundary conditions along the slit boundaries are also used to derive a special purpose element with local defects. The path-independent integral is evaluated at the tip of a crack to determine the energy release rate for a mode Ⅲ fracture problem. In final, the accuracy and efficiency of the Trefftz boundary element method are illustrated by an example and the comparison is made with other methods. 展开更多

Electroelastic behavior of a cracked piezoelectric ceramics plate subjected to four Cases of combined mechanical-electrical loads is analyzed. The integral transform method is applied to convert the problem involving an impermeable anti-plane crack to dual integral equations. Solving the resulting equations, the explicit analytic expressions for electroelastic field along the crack line and the intensity factors of relevant quantities near the crack tip and the mechanical strain energy release rate we obtained, The known results for an infinite piezoelectric ceramics plane containing an impermeable anti-plane crack are recovered from the present results only if the thickness of the plate h --> infinity. 展开更多

The problem of an anti-plane Griffith crack moving along the interface of dissimilar piezoelectric materials is solved by using the integral transform technique. It is shown from the result that the intensity factors of anti-plane stress and electric displacement around the crack tip are dependent on the speed of the Griffith crack as well as the material coefficients. When the two piezoelectric materials are identical, the present result will be reduced to the result far the problem of an anti-plane moving Griffith crack in homogeneous piezoelectric materials. 展开更多

The special case of a crack under mode Ⅲ conditions was treated, lying parallel to the edges of an infinite strip with finite width and with the shear modulus varying exponentially perpendicular to the edges. By using Fourier transforms the problem was formulated in terms of a singular integral equation. It was numerically solved by representing the unknown dislocation density by a truncated series of Chebyshev polynomials leading to a linear system of equations. The stress intensity factor (SIF) results were discussed with respect to the influences of different geometric parameters and the strength of the non-homogeneity. It was indicated that the SIF increases with the increase of the crack length and decreases with the increase of the rigidity of the material in the vicinity of crack. The SIF of narrow strip is very sensitive to the change of the non-homogeneity parameter and its variation is complicated. With the increase of the non-homogeneity parameter, the stress intensity factor may increase, decrease or keep constant, which is mainly determined by the strip width and the relative crack location. If the crack is located at the midline of the strip or if the strip is wide, the stress intensity factor is not sensitive to the material non-homogeneity parameter. 展开更多

The mechanical properties of deep-sea sediments during the driving process of crawler collectors are essential factors in the design of mining systems. In this study,a crawler load is divided into a normal compression load and a horizontal shear load. Then, the internal stress state of sedimentary soil is examined through a theoretical calculation and finite element numerical simulation. Finally, the driving of crawlers is simulated by changing the relative spatial position between the load and stress unit, obtaining the stress path of the soil unit.Based on the calculation results, the effect of the horizontal shear load on the soil stress response is analyzed at different depths, and the spatial variation law of the soil stress path is examined. The results demonstrate that the horizontal shear load has a significant effect on the rotation of the principal stress, and the reverse rotation of the principal stress axis becomes obvious with the increase in the burial depth. The stress path curve of the soil is different at various depths. The spatial variation rule of the stress path of the shallow soil is complex, whereas the stress path curve of the deep soil tends to shrink as the depth increases. The stress path of the corresponding depth should be selected according to the actual research purpose and applied to the laboratory test. 展开更多

Cemented paste backfill(CPB)is a key technology for green mining in metal mines,in which tailings thickening comprises the primary link of CPB technology. However, difficult flocculation and substandard concentrations of thickened tailings often occur. The rheological properties and concentration evolution in the thickened tailings remain unclear. Moreover, traditional indoor thickening experiments have yet to quantitatively characterize their rheological properties. An experiment of flocculation condition optimization based on the Box-Behnken design(BBD)was performed in the study, and the two response values were investigated:concentration and the mean weighted chord length(MWCL)of flocs. Thus, optimal flocculation conditions were obtained. In addition, the rheological properties and concentration evolution of different flocculant dosages and ultrafine tailing contents under shear, compression, and compression-shear coupling experimental conditions were tested and compared. The results show that the shear yield stress under compression and compression-shear coupling increases with the growth of compressive yield stress, while the shear yield stress increases slightly under shear. The order of shear yield stress from low to high under different thickening conditions is shear, compression, and compression-shear coupling.Under compression and compression-shear coupling, the concentration first rapidly increases with the growth of compressive yield stress and then slowly increases, while concentration increases slightly under shear. The order of concentration from low to high under different thickening conditions is shear, compression, and compression-shear coupling. Finally, the evolution mechanism of the flocs and drainage channels during the thickening of the thickened tailings under different experimental conditions was revealed. 展开更多

Rigid-flexible composite pavement has gained significant popularity in recent decades. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the research progress concerning rigid-flexible composite pavement, aiming to promote its application and address key issues while identifying future directions. The design theory and methodology of rigid-flexible composite pavement are discussed, followed by a description of its structural and mechanical behavior characteristics. The load stress, temperature stress, and their interactive effects between the asphalt layer and the rigid base were analyzed. It is clarified that the asphalt layer serves a dual role as both a“functional layer”and a“structural layer”.Typical distresses of rigid-flexible composite pavement, which primarily occur in the asphalt layer, were discussed. These distresses include reflective cracking,top-down cracking, rutting, and compressive-shear failure.Generally, the integrity of the rigid base and the interlaminar bonding conditions significantly impact the performance and distress of the asphalt layer. The technology for enhancing the performance of rigid-flexible composite pavement is summarized in three aspects:asphalt layer properties, rigid base integrity, and interlaminar bonding condition. The study concludes that developing high-performance pavement materials based on their structural behaviors is an effective approach to improve the performance and durability of rigid-flexible composite pavement. The integrated design of structure and materials represents the future direction of road design. 展开更多

In this paper, the crack initiation characteristics of compression-shear plane crack with hydraulic pressure were studied by using theoretical analysis and experimental verification methods. The formula derivation process of stress intensity factor of crack tip and open-type crack initiation angle and initiation strength was expounded in detail. Cement mortar specimens prefabricated with open-type crack were made for biaxial compression test. The results show that the mode I stress intensity factor is inversely proportional to the dip angle of pre-exciting crack, water pressure and crack width. The fracture toughness is most easily achieved when the dip angle of pre-exciting crack is 60°. The mode II stress intensity factor is symmetrically distributed with the dip angle and independent of the water pressure and crack width. For open-type crack, the crack initiation angle decreases with the increase of the dip angle of pre-exciting crack, water pressure and crack width;the crack initiation strength is inversely proportional to the water pressure and proportional to the lateral pressure. The research results can provide ideas for the study of crack initiation under the coupling of ground stress and osmotic pressure in tunnel engineering. 展开更多

The effects of different complex shear stress conditions on grain refinement and texture evolution of Mg-13Gd-4Y-2Zn-0.5Zr alloy were investigated. With increasing strain rate, the average grain size of compression-shear(CS)and compression-torsion(CT)samples are decreased, and the grain size of dynamic recrystallization(DRX)grains is also decreased. This is because that the precipitation number ofβphases is increased, and the hindering effect on grain growth can be significantly enhanced. The DRX fractions of CS and CT samples are decreased with increased strain rate. The low DRX fraction at high strain rate is related to the insufficient time for grains to nucleate. The DRX process can be promoted by the PSN mechanism of second phases, and the grain growth can be restricted by the pinning effect. At the same time, the texture strength is enhanced as the strain rate increased.Besides, the kinking degree of lamellar long-period stacking ordered(LPSO)phases is increased.Under complex shear stress conditions,non-basal slip, especially pyramidal slip,is easily activated and the texture is deflected greatly.Compared with the CS samples,CT samples have smaller average grain size, higher DRX fraction, and lower texture strength for a certain strain rate. This is because that the equivalent stress of the CT sample is larger, the stress triaxiality is smaller,so more serious dislocations are piled up near grain boundaries and second phases. At the same time, since CT sample was sheared with torsion, the dislocation movement path can be called“rotational dislocation accumulation”,and the longer distribution path of the CT sample is generated,so more sub-grains and low-angle grain boundaries(LAGBs)are formed.Compared with the CS sample, more huge-angle grain boundaries(HAGBs)and DRX grains are formed from grain boundary to grain interior,so better grain refinement effect is achieved. 展开更多

The sinkage of a moving tracked mining vehicle is greatly af fected by the combined compression-shear rheological properties of soft deep-sea sediments. For test purposes, the best sediment simulant is prepared based on soft deep-sea sediment from a C-C poly-metallic nodule mining area in the Pacific Ocean. Compressive creep tests and shear creep tests are combined to obtain compressive and shear rheological parameters to establish a combined compressive-shear rheological constitutive model and a compression-sinkage rheological constitutive model. The combined compression-shear rheological sinkage of the tracked mining vehicle at dif ferent speeds is calculated using the Recur Dyn software with a selfprogrammed subroutine to implement the combined compression-shear rheological constitutive model. The model results are compared with shear rheological sinkage and ordinary sinkage(without consideration of rheological properties). These results show that the combined compression-shear rheological constitutive model must be taken into account when calculating the sinkage of a tracked mining vehicle. The combined compression-shear rheological sinkage decrease with vehicle speed and is the largest among the three types of sinkage. The developed subroutine in the Recur Dyn software can be used to study the performance and structural optimization of moving tracked mining vehicles. 展开更多

Large shear deformation problems are frequently encountered in geotechnical engineering. To expose the shear failure mechanism of rock tunnels,compression-shear tests for rock models with circular tunnel were carried out, including single tunnel and adjacent double tunnels. The failure process is recorded by the external video and miniature cameras around the tunnel, accompanied by real-time acoustic emission monitoring. The experiments indicate that the shearing processes of rock tunnel can be divided into four steps:(i)cracks appeared around tunnels,(ii)shear cracks and spalling ejection developed,(iii)floor warping occurred, and(iv)shear cracks ran through the tunnel model.Besides, the roughness of the sheared fracture surface decreased with the increase in normal stress.Corresponding numerical simulation indicates that there are tensile stress concentrations and compressive stress concentrations around the tunnel during the shearing process, while the compressive stress concentration areas are under high risk of failure and the existence of adjacent tunnels will increase the degree of stress concentration. 展开更多

One of these strips is made of a functionally graded material and the other of an isotropic material, which contains an edge crack perpendicular to and terminating at the interface.
