Besides fundamental Jungian archetypes (persona, shadow, anima, animus, great mother, wise old man, hero, self and self-realization), there may be plenty of other psychological archetypes, existence of which can be deduced indirectly through stories, art, myths, religions or dreams. Purpose: This review article is to discuss the myths of Medusa, Hades and Persephone, as well as psychological archetypes present in art and stories. Methods: Several famous psychological archetypes deducted from myths, art and culture, are presented in this article and discussed from medical, psychological and philosophical perspective. Results: Interpretation of psychological archetypes deduced from here presented myths and works of art are posttraumatic embitterment disorder (Medusa), arranged marriage (Hades and Persephone), duality of human nature (Jekyll and Hyde), shared psychosis (Harley Quinn and Joker), fear, phobias, child abuse and childhood traumas (It), instinctive fear of clinical and psychic/emotional vampirism (vampires), the mystery of time (Langoliers). Conclusion: Psychological archetypes represent the powerful source of artistic and scientific inspiration originating from collective unconscious. Research, discovery and understanding of psychological archetypes may be of great value as these reveal universal human thoughts, fears, desires, tendencies, and problems being present throughout the history of humankind. Investigation of psychological archetypes may significantly improve our knowledge of human psychology.展开更多

Harry’s experiences demonstrate his heroic traits: the infant exile and reaction to the call foradventures at the departure stage, a road of trials at the initiation stage, and freedom to live at the return stage, allcontributing to his self-transcendence. During these periods, the defeat of Voldemort, the shadow archetype, andHarry’s unconscious self, also plays an indispensable part in the development of his heroic identity.展开更多

The pattern of researches has changed dramatically as William Golding received the Nobel Prize in Literature. However, Chinese scholars mostly focused on digging out this book from the perspective of the darkness of human nature in the past, which was lack of novelty and innovation. In addition, the book itself was a classic work that it fused with shallow and deep implications as well as smooth and obscure language. Therefore the complexity, profundity and diversity of this book made domestic scholars' researches more difficult. So far, the study of book has no progress in domestic. The recent situation is also not encouraging abroad for several years, and some obscure interpretations of the book hinder the study of a large number of foreign researchers. The paper, breaking out the view of inertia, analyzes the most mysterious Simon and the most intelligent Piggy from the Archetype Character perspective to probe into a deeper meaning. This essay will apply Frye's archetype to make a breakthrough in finding out the far-reaching meanings of the Christ archetypal Simon and wise old man archetypal Piggy.展开更多

The LCADRH is installed with optical pitch encoder and yaw encoder which measure elevation and side to side motion of helicopter. The objective of the project is to design and integrate the helicopter with data acquisition board and sensors to provide hardware features, software support capability for its rapid real time measurement and control. The low cost designed LCADRH facilitates the academic research for students in the institution and is able to provide hands on training to understand the concept of nonlinearity, system modelled and unmodelled dynamics and uncertainty, modelling, simulation and control by doing practical experiments. The mathematical model of the LCADRH is derived using grey box modelling method. The control of LCADRH is challenging due to its nonlinearity and effect of strong coupling between aerodynamic forces and torques generated by the both pitch and yaw actuators. In closed loop position control of LCADRH, pitch and yaw axis motion is regulated using linear quadratic controller (LQR). Encouraging results are obtained both in simulation and hardware.展开更多

Analysis from the perspective of myth and archetypal criticism found that her third novel, Song of Solomon, depicts African myth of flying and the archetype of hero's initiation. In the novel, Morrison not only employs the myth of flying as her structuring device, but also treats it as the symbol of Afro-Americans physical and spiritual freedom. In the frame of searching flying ancestors, Morrison portrays how the protagonist, Milkman, experiences the archetypal hero's initiation phrases: separation, transformation and return. In the novel, by employing the myth of flying and the archetype of hero's initiation, Morrison implies that in order to get spiritual freedom,Afro-Americans must return to tradition and find their cultural root.展开更多
