The purpose of this article is to explore the... Aging is a natural lifelong process ending in death. Many older people are living in poverty. Older people are generally considered dependent on others as they grow older. The purpose of this article is to explore the entrepreneurship activities of Nepalese older adults. Data for this study were collected from the project Help Age International (HAI) implemented in Nepal. Qualitative data observations and interviews were used to collect data. The findings of this study show the formation of the Older People’s Association (OPA) has supported many older people to participate outside the home in various social activities. Moreover, regular deposits through OPAs offer little help. OPAs support older people in their need of financial support to implement minor entrepreneurship. Older people who received support were pleased and were actively involved in their activities and also regularly deposited money in them. Subsequently, older people’s participation in social activities has increased and also helped to lower elderly abuse, loneliness, and depression. Local governments should promote such activities which will help with healthy aging. 展开更多

Nitrogen(N)fertilizer application is essential for crop-plant growth and development.Identifying genetic loci associated with N-use efficiency(NUE)could increase wheat yields and reduce environmental pollution caused by overfertilization.We subjected a panel of 389 wheat accessions to N and chlorate(a nitrate analog)treatments to identify quantitative trait loci(QTL)controlling NUE-associated traits at the wheat seedling stage.Genotyping the panel with a 660K single-nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)array,we identified 397 SNPs associated with N-sensitivity index and chlorate inhibition rate.These SNPs were merged into 49 QTL,of which eight were multi-environment stable QTL and 27 were located near previously reported QTL.A set of 135 candidate genes near the 49 QTL included TaBOX(F-box family protein)and TaERF(ethylene-responsive transcription factor).A Tabox mutant was more sensitive to low-N stress than the wild-type plant.We developed two functional markers for Hap 1,the favorable allele of TaBOX. 展开更多

During the 1980s, as part of a policy of liberalization, following budgetary cuts linked to the implementation of structural adjustment programs, management responsibilities for AHAs were transferred from ONAHA to cooperatives concerned. Due to lack of financial resources, but also because of poor management, everywhere in Niger we are witnessing an accelerated deterioration of the irrigation infrastructure of hydro-agricultural developments. Institutional studies carried out on this situation led the State of Niger to initiate a reform of the governance of hydro-agricultural developments, by streng-thening the status of ONAHA, by creating an Association of Irrigation Water Users (AUEI) and by restructuring the old cooperatives. Indeed, this research aims to analyze the creation of functional and sustainable Irrigation Water User Associations (AUEI) in Niger in a context of reform of the irrigation sector, and based on the experience of the Konni AHA. It is based on a methodological approach which takes into account documentary research and the collection of data from 115 farmers, selected by reasoned choice and directly concerned by the management of the irrigated area. The data collected was analyzed and the results were analyzed using the systemic approach and the diagnostic process. The results show that the main mission of the AUEI is to ensure better management of water, hydraulic equipment and infrastructure on the hydro-agricultural developments of Konni. The creation of the Konni AUEI was possible thanks to massive support from the populations and authorities in the implementation process. After its establishment, the AUEI experienced a certain lethargy for some time due to the rehabilitation work of the AHA but currently it is functional and operational in terms of associative life and governance. Thus, the constraints linked to the legal system, the delay in the completion of the work, the uncertainties of access to irrigation water but also the problems linked to the change in mentality of certain ONAHA agents constitute the challenges that must be resolved in the short term for the operationalization of the Konni AUEI. 展开更多

Phosphorus(P)is essential for living plants,and P deficiency is one of the key factors limiting the yield in rapeseed production worldwide.As the most important organ for plants,root morphology traits(RMTs)play a key role in P absorption.To investigate the genetic variability of RMT under low P availability,we dissected the genetic structure of RMTs by genome-wide association studies(GWAS),linkage mapping and candidate gene association studies(CGAS).A total of 52 suggestive loci were associated with RMTs under P stress conditions in 405 oilseed rape accessions.The purple acid phosphatase gene BnPAP17 was found to control the lateral root number(LRN)and root dry weight(RDW)under low P stress.The expression of BnPAP17 was increased in shoot tissue in P-efficient cultivars compared to root tissue and P-inefficient cultivars in response to low P stress.Moreover,the haplotype of BnPAP17^(Hap3)was detected for the selective breeding of P efficiency in oilseed rape.Over-expression of the BnPAP17^(Hap3)could promote the shoot and root growth with enhanced tolerance to low P stress and organic phosphorus(Po)utilization in oilseed rape.Collectively,these findings increase our understanding of the mechanisms underlying BnPAP17-mediated low P stress tolerance in oilseed rape. 展开更多

Since 2016,community group buying has grown significantly in China,largely driven by its efficient logistics,supply chains,low prices,and convenience.This model has been further popularized during the COVID-19 pandemic due to its effectiveness in meeting daily needs while minimizing human-to-human contact.A key component of this business model is the“group leaders”-influential individuals within a community responsible for managing group buying activities,which include order collection,supplier liaison,and goods distribution.Their primary task is to form and sustain a reliable community group buying consortium,a task that demands excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.This paper examines this phenomenon using the lens of the differential mode of association,a theoretical model explaining interpersonal relationships in traditional Chinese society.The research indicates that group leaders,through regular interaction with consumers,are able to alter their social network position,increase their influence,understand consumer needs,provide satisfying services,and enhance trust,thereby transforming consumers into loyal group buying participants.This transformation not only brings stability to group buying activities but also reinforces the community influence of group leaders,thus fostering the growth of community group buying. 展开更多

Shade tolerance is essential for soybeans in inter/relay cropping systems.A genome-wide association study(GWAS)integrated with transcriptome sequencing was performed to identify genes and construct a genetic network governing the trait in a set of recombinant inbred lines derived from two soybean parents with contrasting shade tolerance.An improved GWAS procedure,restricted two-stage multi-locus genome-wide association study based on gene/allele sequence markers(GASM-RTM-GWAS),identified 140 genes and their alleles associated with shade-tolerance index(STI),146 with relative pith cell length(RCL),and nine with both.Annotation of these genes by biological categories allowed the construction of a protein–protein interaction network by 187 genes,of which half were differentially expressed under shading and non-shading conditions as well as at different growth stages.From the identified genes,three ones jointly identified for both traits by both GWAS and transcriptome and two genes with maximum links were chosen as beginners for entrance into the network.Altogether,both STI and RCL gene systems worked for shade-tolerance with genes interacted each other,this confirmed that shadetolerance is regulated by more than single group of interacted genes,involving multiple biological functions as a gene network. 展开更多

Despite the planned installation and operations of the traditional IEEE 802.11 networks,they still experience degraded performance due to the number of inefficiencies.One of the main reasons is the received signal strength indicator(RSSI)association problem,in which the user remains connected to the access point(AP)unless the RSSI becomes too weak.In this paper,we propose a multi-criterion association(WiMA)scheme based on software defined networking(SDN)in Wi-Fi networks.An association solution based on multi-criterion such as AP load,RSSI,and channel occupancy is proposed to satisfy the quality of service(QoS).SDNhaving an overall view of the network takes the association and reassociation decisions making the handoffs smooth in throughput performance.To implementWiMA extensive simulations runs are carried out on Mininet-NS3-Wi-Fi network simulator.The performance evaluation shows that the WiMA significantly reduces the average number of retransmissions by 5%–30%and enhances the throughput by 20%–50%,hence maintaining user fairness and accommodating more wireless devices and traffic load in the network,when compared to traditional client-driven(CD)approach and state of the art Wi-Balance approach. 展开更多

Prenatal diagnosis can ... VACTERL association represents a rare condition with a broad spectrum of coexisting congenital abnormalities. Although a multifactorial origin has been described, the etiology is still unclear. Prenatal diagnosis can be challenging, as specific characteristics may be difficult to be determined before birth. This case report describes the finding of multiple congenital abnormalities in a male fetus at 30 weeks of gestation. The most notable findings were the presence of duodenal stenosis, esophageal atresia with distal tracheoesophageal fistula (type 3), interatrial septal communication foramen ovale, and left nostril and choana agenesis. After birth and making a broad differential diagnosis, all these characteristics oriented the diagnosis towards the VACTERL association. To the best of our knowledge, no cases of VACTERL association and unilateral nostril and choana agenesis have been previously described. 展开更多

In this paper,we reveal the fundamental limitation of network densification on the performance of caching enabled small cell network(CSCN)under two typical user association rules,namely,contentand distance-based rules.It indicates that immoderately caching content would significantly change the interference distribution in CSCN,which may degrade the network area spectral efficiency(ASE).Meanwhile,it is shown that content-based rule outperforms the distance-based rule in terms of network ASE only when small cell base stations(BSs)are sparsely deployed with low decoding thresholds.Moreover,it is proved that network ASE under distance-based user association serves as the upper bound of that under content-based rule in dense BS regime.To enable more spectrum-efficient user association in dense CSCN,we further optimize network ASE by designing a probabilistic content retrieving strategy based on distance-based rule.With the optimized retrieving probability,network ASE could be substantially enhanced and even increase with the growing BS density in dense BS regime. 展开更多

Lignin metabolism plays a pivotal role in plant defense against pathogens and is always positively correlated as a response to pathogen infection. Thus, understanding resistance genes against plant pathogens depends on a genetic analysis of the lignin response. This study used eight Upland cotton lines to construct a multi-parent advanced generation intercross(MAGIC) population(n=280), which exhibited peculiar characteristics from the convergence of various alleles coding for advantageous traits. In order to measure the lignin response to Verticillium wilt(LRVW), the artificial disease nursery(ADN) and rotation nursery(RN) were prepared for MAGIC population planting in four environments. The stem lignin contents were collected, and the LRVW was measured with the lignin value of ADN/RN in each environment, which showed significant variations. We employed 9 323 high-quality single-nucleotide polymorphism(SNP) markers obtained from the Cotton-SNP63K array for genotyping the MAGIC population. The SNPs were distributed through the whole genome with 4.78 SNP/Mb density, ranging from 1.14(ChrA06) to 10.08(ChrD08). In addition, a genome-wide association study was performed using a Mixed Linear Model(MLM) for LRVW. Three stable quantitative trait loci(QTLs), qLRVW-A04, qLRVW-A10, and qLRVW-D05, were identified in more than two environments. Two key candidate genes, Ghi_D05G01046 and Ghi_D05G01221, were selected within the QTLs through the combination of variations in the coding sequence, induced expression patterns, and function annotations. Both genes presented nonsynonymous mutations in coding regions and were strongly induced by Verticillium dahliae. Ghi_D05G01046 encodes a leucine-rich extensin(LRx) protein involved in Arabidopsis cell wall biosynthesis and organization. Ghi_D05G01221 encodes a transcriptional co-repressor novel interactor of novel interactor of jasmonic acid ZIM-domain(JAZ–NINJA), which functions in the jasmonic acid(JA) signaling pathway. In summary, the study creates valuable genetic resources for breeding and QTL mapping and opens up a new perspective to uncover the genetic basis of VW resistance in Upland cotton. 展开更多

Many developing countries like Nigeria lack policy for the care of the older adults and this creates major challenges for the elderly population. The traditional family institution and community support that used to be safety nest are being adversely affected by westernization. This development might have adverse effect on life satisfaction among the older adults. This hospital based cross-sectional study was designed to determine the association between support and life satisfaction among older adults. A total of 128 subjects participated in the study out of which 28.9% were satisfied with life. Expectation of support was mainly from the family, less from the community and very low from the government. The level of support received from all sources generally fell short of expectations. Marital status and source of livelihood were significantly associated with life satisfaction. There is inadequate social support from the government and support from family and community fell below expectations. Expectations of support were the most strongly correlated with life satisfaction. Support for older adults must be addressed in order to meet their expectations and improve their level of satisfaction with life. 展开更多

The content-centric networking(CCN)architecture allows access to the content through name,instead of the physical location where the content is stored,which makes it a more robust and flexible content-based architecture.Nevertheless,in CCN,the broadcast nature of vehicles on the Internet of Vehicles(IoV)results in latency and network congestion.The IoVbased content distribution is an emerging concept in which all the vehicles are connected via the internet.Due to the high mobility of vehicles,however,IoV applications have different network requirements that differ from those of many other networks,posing new challenges.Considering this,a novel strategy mediator framework is presented in this paper for managing the network resources efficiently.Software-defined network(SDN)controller is deployed for improving the routing flexibility and facilitating in the interinteroperability of heterogeneous devices within the network.Due to the limited memory of edge devices,the delectable bloom filters are used for caching and storage.Finally,the proposed scheme is compared with the existing variants for validating its effectiveness. 展开更多

Tea is one of the most popular non-alcoholic beverages in the world,and free amino acids,especially theanine,make a major contribution to the umami taste of tea.However,the genetic basis of the variation in amino acid content in tea plants remains largely unknown.Here,we measured the free amino acid content in fresh leaves of 174 tea accessions over two years using a targeted metabolomics approach and obtained genotype data via RNA sequencing.Genome-wide association studies were conducted to investigate loci affecting the content of free amino acids.A total of 69 quantitative trait loci(–log10(P-value)>5)were identified.Functional annotation revealed that branched-chain amino acid aminotransferase,glutamine synthetase,nitrate transporter,and glutamate decarboxylase might be important for amino acid metabolism.Two significant loci,glutamine synthetase(Glu1,P=3.71×10^(−4);Arg1,P=4.61×10^(−5))and branched-chain amino acid aminotransferase(Val1,P=4.67×10^(−5);I_Leu1,P=3.56×10^(−6)),were identified,respectively.Based on the genotyping result,two alleles of CsGS(CsGS-L and CsGS-H)and CsBCAT(CsBCAT-L and CsBCAT-H)were selected to perform function verification.Overexpression of CsGS-L and CsGS-H enhanced the contents of glutamate and arginine in transgenic plants,and overexpression of CsBCAT-L and CsBCAT-H promoted the accumulation of valine,isoleucine and leucine.Enzyme activity assay uncovered that SNP1054 is important for CsGS catalyzing glutamate into glutamine.Furthermore,CsGS-L and CsGS-H differentially regulated the accumulation of glutamine,and CsBCAT-L and CsBCAT-H differentially regulated the accumulation of branched-chain amino acids.In summary,the findings in our study would provide new insights into the genetic basis of amino acids contents variation in tea plants and facilitate the identification of elite genes to enhance amino acids content. 展开更多

At present,deep learning has been well applied in many fields.However,due to the high complexity of hypothesis space,numerous training samples are usually required to ensure the reliability of minimizing experience risk.Therefore,training a classifier with a small number of training examples is a challenging task.From a biological point of view,based on the assumption that rich prior knowledge and analogical association should enable human beings to quickly distinguish novel things from a few or even one example,we proposed a dynamic analogical association algorithm to make the model use only a few labeled samples for classification.To be specific,the algorithm search for knowledge structures similar to existing tasks in prior knowledge based on manifold matching,and combine sampling distributions to generate offsets instead of two sample points,thereby ensuring high confidence and significant contribution to the classification.The comparative results on two common benchmark datasets substantiate the superiority of the proposed method compared to existing data generation approaches for few-shot learning,and the effectiveness of the algorithm has been proved through ablation experiments. 展开更多

Causal associations between inflammatory bowel disease and anxiety:A bidirectional Mendelian randomization study

BACKGROUND Anxiety is common in patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD),including those with ulcerative colitis(UC)and Crohn’s disease(CD);however,the causal relationship between IBD and anxiety remains unknown.AIM To investigate the causal relationship between IBD and anxiety by using bidirectional Mendelian randomization analysis.METHODS Single nucleotide polymorphisms retrieved from genome-wide association studies(GWAS)of the European population were identified as genetic instrument variants.GWAS statistics for individuals with UC(6968 patients and 20464 controls;adults)and CD(5956 patients and 14927 controls;adults)were obtained from the International IBD Genetics Consortium.GWAS statistics for individuals with anxiety were obtained from the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium(2565 patients and 14745 controls;adults)and FinnGen project(20992 patients and 197800 controls;adults),respectively.Inverse-variance weighted was applied to assess the causal relationship,and the results were strengthened by heterogeneity,pleiotropy and leave-one-out analyses.RESULTS Genetic susceptibility to UC was associated with an increased risk of anxiety[odds ratio:1.071(95%confidence interval:1.009-1.135),P=0.023],while genetic susceptibility to CD was not associated with anxiety.Genetic susceptibility to anxiety was not associated with UC or CD.No heterogeneity or pleiotropy was observed,and the leave-one-out analysis excluded the potential influence of a particular variant.CONCLUSION This study revealed that genetic susceptibility to UC was significantly associated with anxiety and highlighted the importance of early screening for anxiety in patients with UC. 展开更多

The massive Internet of Things(IoT)comprises different gateways(GW)covering a given region of a massive number of connected devices with sensors.In IoT networks,transmission interference is observed when different sensor devices(SD)try to send information to a single GW.This is mitigated by allotting various channels to adjoining GWs.Furthermore,SDs are permitted to associate with anyGWin a network,naturally choosing the one with a higher received signal strength indicator(RSSI),regardless of whether it is the ideal choice for network execution.Finding an appropriate GW to optimize the performance of IoT systems is a difficult task given the complicated conditions among GWs and SDs.Recently,in remote IoT networks,the utilization of machine learning(ML)strategies has arisen as a viable answer to determine the effect of various models in the system,and reinforcement learning(RL)is one of these ML techniques.Therefore,this paper proposes the use of an RL algorithm for GW determination and association in IoT networks.For this purpose,this study allows GWs and SDs with intelligence,through executing the multi-armed bandit(MAB)calculation,to investigate and determine the optimal GW with which to associate.In this paper,rigorous mathematical calculations are performed for this purpose and evaluate our proposed mechanism over randomly generated situations,which include different IoT network topologies.The evaluation results indicate that our intelligentMAB-based mechanism enhances the association as compared to state-of-the-art(RSSI-based)and related research approaches. 展开更多

Cache-enabling unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)are considered for storing popular contents and providing downlink data offloading in cellular networks.In this context,we formulate a joint optimization problem of user association,caching placement,and backhaul bandwidth allocation for minimizing content acquisition delay with consideration of UAVs’energy constraint.We decompose the formulated problem into two subproblems:i)user association and caching placement and ii)backhaul bandwidth allocation.We first obtain the optimal bandwidth allocation with given user association and caching placement by the Lagrangian multiplier approach.After that,embedding the backhaul bandwidth allocation algorithm,we solve the user association and caching placement problem by a threedimensional(3D)matching method.Then we decompose it into two two-dimensional(2D)matching problems and develop low-complexity algorithms.The proposed scheme converges and exhibits a low computational complexity.Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed cache-enabling UAV framework outperforms the conventional UAV-assisted cellular networks in terms of content acquisition delay and the proposed scheme achieves significantly lower content acquisition delay compared with other two benchmark schemes. 展开更多

Upland cotton(Gossypium hirsutum)is the most important plant producing natural fibers for the textile industry.In this study,we first investigated the phenotypic variation of seven agronomic traits of 273 diverse cotton accessions in the years 2017 and 2018,which were from 18 geographical regions.We found large variations among the traits in different geographical regions and only half of the traits in either years 2017 or 2018 followed a normal distribution.We then genotyped the collection with 81,612 high quality SNPs.Phylogenetic tree and population structure revealed a diverse genetic structure of the core collection,and geographical diversification was an important factor,but account for part of the variances of genetic diversification.We then performed genome-wide association study for the seven traits in the years 2017 and 2018,and the average values of each trait in the two years,respectively.We identified a total of 19 significant marker-trait associations and found that Pollen Ole e 1 allergen/extension could be the candidate gene associated with the fall-off cotton bolls from the last three branches.In addition,large variations were observed for the heritability of traits in the years 2017 and 2018.These results provide new potential candidate genes for further functional validation,which could be useful for genetic improvement and breeding of new cotton cultivars with better agronomic performances. 展开更多

Maximum frequent pattern generation from a large database of transactions and items for association rule mining is an important research topic in data mining. Association rule mining aims to discover interesting correlations, frequent patterns, associations, or causal structures between items hidden in a large database. By exploiting quantum computing, we propose an efficient quantum search algorithm design to discover the maximum frequent patterns. We modified Grover’s search algorithm so that a subspace of arbitrary symmetric states is used instead of the whole search space. We presented a novel quantum oracle design that employs a quantum counter to count the maximum frequent items and a quantum comparator to check with a minimum support threshold. The proposed derived algorithm increases the rate of the correct solutions since the search is only in a subspace. Furthermore, our algorithm significantly scales and optimizes the required number of qubits in design, which directly reflected positively on the performance. Our proposed design can accommodate more transactions and items and still have a good performance with a small number of qubits. 展开更多
