In this conceptual paper, the authors suggest that message framing can be extended to include causal attributions, and Weiner's Attribution Theory (Weiner's AT) is an appropriate theoretical framework for the study of message framing and health communications. Weiner's AT proposes a specific motivational sequence that may explain cognitive, emotional, and behavioral responses to message frames. Propositions regarding relationships between message frames, causal attributions, and emotional and behavioral responses are presented to guide future research. The implications of this attribution-based message-framing process for future research are discussed展开更多

The purposes ot this study are to investigate the development of Chinese EFL learners' attributions for their perceived success and failure in second language reading and to clarify the relationship between learners' reading proficiency levels and their attributions. The results show that (1) Nearly half of the university students feel "Just so so" in English reading; (2) Environmental variables such as teacher feedback, peers or classroom play an influential role in the learners' attribution. This paper concludes with a number of pedagogical suggestions for the teaching and learning of English reading.展开更多

Dealing with interval-valued information systems is helpful to generalize the applications of rough set theory. Attribute reduction is a key issue in analysis of interval-valued data. Existing attribute reduction methods for single-valued data are unsuitable for interval-valued data. So far, there have been few studies on attribute reduction methods for interval-valued data. In this paper, we propose a framework for attribute reduction in interval-valued data from the viewpoint of information theory. Some information theory concepts, including entropy, conditional entropy, and joint entropy, are given in interval-valued information systems. Based on these concepts, we provide an information theory view for attribute reduction in interval-valued information systems. Consequently, attribute reduction algorithms are proposed. Experiments show that the proposed framework is effective for attribute reduction in interval-valued information systems.展开更多

A suitable protocol for hepatoprotection and enzymes reduction was recommended in Longhua Hospital. Methods This study was conducted as a retrospective piece. Three therapeutic protocols (compound glycyrrhizic glycoside combined with aspartic ornithine injection, compound glycyrrhizic glycoside combined with phospha- tidylcholine, and compound glycyrrhizic glycoside combined with tiopronin) were selected. Seventy inpatient cases from January 2011 to February 2012 were enrolled and divided into three groups according to different regimens. The cost effectiveness of the three groups was respectively evaluated by incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (iCERs). A decision tree model and multi attribution utility theory were also adopted to analyze the data. Results All the three regimens exhibited good effects on protecting liver functions and reducing the levels of enzymes. Among them, the protocol of compound glycyrrhizic glycoside combined with tioproni expressed the least ICER, the lowest cost but the highest score in the multi-utility. Conclusion The therapeutic method of compound glycyrrhizic glycoside combined with tiopronin is the most cost-effective option in this study.展开更多

If shame is negative concern over endangered or threatened self-image (usually in front of others), guilt is autonomous moral awareness of one's wrongdoings and reparative motivation to correct one's moral misconduct. Recently, many psychologists have begun to discuss the moral significance of shame in their comparative studies of non-Western cultures. In this new approach, shame is characterized as a positive moral emotion and active motivation for self-reflection and self-cultivation. If shame is a positive and active moral emotion, what is its moral psychological nature? In this paper, I will analyze shame from the perspective of cultural psychology and early Confucian philosophy. Unlike many Western philosophers, Confucius and Mencius discuss shame as a form of moral excellence. In early Confucian texts, shame is not a reactive emotion of an endangered self but a moral disposition that supports a self-critical and self-transformative process of moral development.展开更多
