The scattering of elastic waves by a spherical particle with imperfect interface and the nondestructive detection of interfacial damage were studied. First, the scattering of elastic waves by a spherical particle with imperfect interface, i.e. spring interface model, was studied. Then, multiple scattering by random distributed particles was investigated and the equations to evaluate the velocity and attenuation of effective waves defined by statistic averaging were given. Furthermore, on the basis of the established relation between the velocity and interfacial constants, a method to evaluate the interfacial damage nondestructively from the ultrasonic data was pro- posed. Numerical simulation was performed for the SiC-Al composites. The velocities of the effective waves were computed to show the influence of the interface constants. Using the genetic algorithm, the interfacial damage was evaluated from the synthetic experi- mental data with various noise levels. The numerical results showed the feasibility of the method proposed. 展开更多

If Hs, Tz and Tc are the measured significant wave height, average zero-up crossing wave period and average period between wave crests respectively and let y = T Z / TC; this paper provides equation to solve y fromf(y,y) = 0. From the solutions of this equation and by using LSM, the expression relating y as a function of y (for 2.54<y< 15.34 and 1.6 <y < 1,79) may be written as y -5546.721 - 9586.533y + 5568.168/- 1089/+ 2/, for other intervals the related formulas are also given. When y is known, the rest of parameters in JONSWAP spectrum can be obtained. In addition, this paper also provides alternatives for determining JONSWAP spectral parameters by using Hs, Tz and (, or Hs, Tz and S(w0) or other three given data. The JONSWAP spectra given in this paper satisfy the following formulas HS= 4.0 = 2 Tc = 2 展开更多

Soil water content(SWC)is a crucial parameter in ecology, agriculture, hydrology, and engineering studies.Research on non-invasive monitoring of SWC has been a long-lasting topic in these fields.Ground penetrating radar(GPR),a non-destructive geophysical technique, has the advantages of high resolution, deep detection depth, and high efficiency in SWC measurements at medium scale. It has been successfully applied in field investigations. This paper summarizes the recent progress in developing GPR-based SWC measurement methods, including reflected wave, ground wave, surface reflection, borehole GPR,full waveform inversion, average envelope amplitude, and frequency shift methods. The principles, advantages, limitations, and applications of these methods are described in detail.A comprehensive technical framework, which comprises the seven methods,is proposed to understand their principles and applicability. Two key procedures, namely, data acquisition and data processing, are emphasized as crucial to method applications. The suitable methods that will satisfy diverse application demands and field conditions are recommended.Future development, potential applications, and advances in hardware and data processing techniques are also highlighted. 展开更多

In the present paper, the effective propagation constants of elastic SH waves in composites with randomly distributed parallel cylindrical nanofibers are studied. The surface stress effects are considered based on the surface elasticity theory and non-classical interfacial conditions between the nanofiber and the host are derived. The scattering waves from individual nanofibers embedded in an infinite elastic host are obtained by the plane wave expansion method. The scattering waves from all fibers are summed up to obtain the multiple scattering waves. The interactions among random dispersive nanofibers are taken into account by the effective field approximation. The effective propagation constants are obtained by the configurational average of the multiple scattering waves. The effective speed and attenuation of the averaged wave and the associated dynamical effective shear modulus of composites are numerically calculated. Based on the numerical results, the size effects of the nanofibers on the effective propagation constants and the effective modulus are discussed. 展开更多
