Application of Student-centered Learning Approach to English Listening and Speaking Class in Vocational Schools

Student-centered learning approach is focused on the students' demands and interests.Applying student-centered approach puts forward higher requirement to English teachers.This article first analyzes the theory of student-centered learning approach and compares teacher-centered approach with it.Based on the research information and teaching experience,the author summarizes four strategies about how to apply student-centered learning approach to English listening and speaking class in vocational schools.

On Application of the Student-centered Approach in English Classroom Teaching of Chinese Vocational Colleges

Nowadays, people have been more critical about the traditional ways of teaching and advocate the student-centered teaching approach. This paper focuses on the student- centered approach in English classroom teaching in vocational colleges. It points out that the students' English levels, the current mainstream of teaching in English class as well as the teaching materials in Chinese vocational college are all important factors that influence the outcome of the student-centered teaching approach. Meanwhile, the paper proves that college students can gain more in the student-centered English class. In the end, some suggestions are provided.

A Case Study on the Student-centered Approach to English Teaching for Students of Polytechnics

Insights obtained from this study may be useful in improving college English teaching in the aim of better preparing teachers to assume teaching responsibilities.This study may also contribute to an understanding of how administrators can improve training programs to better meet the needs,experiences,and beliefs of college students.The information may be useful in improving programs designed to facilitate the development of college teachers' beliefs about teaching and teaching skills and specifically those target the development of inquiry teaching.

A Study on Student-Centered Language Pedagogy Based on Humanism

Although it is common for Chinese students to learn English for many years, they are still confronted with problems when it comes to communicating with people in English. Lack of working hard, necessary learning context, and interest does play a part; however, the problem really lies mostly in teaching process, so, to improve the quality of learning, teachers should bear more responsibilities and do more to bring humanism to English class and enhance student-centeredness. To achieve this goal, teachers should know more about students＇ learning styles so as to apply different approaches to students with different learning styles. What is more, priority should be given to analysis of learners＇ needs as well as preferences, on the basis of which a curriculum can be developed to meet the needs of a particular group of students. Finally, improvement of learner autonomy will lead to the shift of learning responsibilities from teacher to students, thus achieving student-centered learning ultimately.

A study on the application of the ＂student-centered＂ educational concept in Vocal Music Teaching at normal universities

The teaching of Vocal Music Education in normal universities is a core part of vocal skills training in the system of music education, which has a direct impact on the cultivation of teachers of foundation music education. There has been a lot of discussion about Vocal Music Teaching or specifically aim at improving the students＇ comprehensive ability, but the number of systematic study which integrates both of the two is little. The training contents of the teaching of Vocal Music Education in normal universities include the features of rich teaching content; instructional mode is composed of classroom teaching, art practice, practice teaching and other diverse forms. The teaching of Vocal Music Education at normal universities can promote the cultivation of the students＇ comprehensive capabilities, including： the cultivation of moral and intellectual, the enhancement of cultural accomplishment, and the cultivation of language competence, connoisseurship and psychological qualities and such non-professional quality; good singing, correct listening and perception ability, good ability of piano accompaniment, and the cultivation and improvement of ability of teaching practice and such professional quality. The author combines the ＂student-centered＂ educational concept to analyze the teaching of Vocal Music at normal universities, hoping to provide some inspiration and help for educators of Vocal Music Teaching.

China＇s Teaching Patterns Being Challenged -- Asking for Student-centered Method

The author tries to point out the right class teaching patterns and the important roles of teachers in class compared with the traditional teaching method---teacher-centered way. ON THE APPLICATION OF THE STUDENT-CENTERED & TOPIC-BASED TEACHING APPROACH IN NEW COLLEGE ENGLISH

By this means, a variety of activities can be successfully arranged and carried out. This paper analyses and probes into the great significance for improvement of the teaching quality by the application of the pattern.

Student Choice in English Study

There are three student-centered approaches introduced in this essay. The first one focuses on the design of syllabuses that relate specifically to an analysis of students'needs. The second one is about the provision of classroom activities that encourage more student participation. Last one is concerned with allowing students a greater role in the management of their learning, by providing opportunities for student choice in the method and scope of study . These can contribute a lot to Chinese English class in the situation where many so-called students-centered approaches which mislead many teacher.

The Dialectical Relationship between "Changing" and "Unchanging" in GIS Practice Teaching in the Social Transition Period

New requirements have been proposed for GIS practice teaching in colleges and universities in response to the developmental changes of national and industrial sectors during the social transition.Meanwhile,the underlying core characteristics of GIS should remain unchanged in GIS teaching to ensure they serve as the inherent attributes distinguishing GIS from other disciplines.Therefore,the clarification of the dialectical relationship between “changing” and “unchanging” in GIS practice teaching becomes the primary issue to address in relevant teaching reform.To address this issue,the present study systematically analyzes the structural contradictions in GIS practice teaching in the social transition period,and then closely examines the dialectical relationship between “changing” and “unchanging” from the key aspects of educational philosophy,teaching content,teaching methodology,and teaching assessment.Next,using the course of “GIS Practice Design” at the Central South University as an example,the present study describes this university’s reform and inheritance in GIS practice teaching,aiming to provide reference for GIS practice teaching in other universities or majors.

Implications of Reportage Texts in EFL Teaching

In this paper, the author discusses implications of original reportage texts in EFL teaching and learning from the perspectives of socio-linguistics and pragmatic competence. The author also discusses a proper approach for teaching medical postgraduate students, which is centered on students and based on research. This approach for teaching and leaning has been proved effective and students have improved in their socio-linguistic and pragmatic competences. Reflections on Observing ESL Reading and Writing Course at University of Ottawa

This article is about some reflections after observing an ESL Reading and Writing Course at the University of Ottawa.Compared to the English teaching situation at my university which is facing colossal challenges of reformation, four aspects are highlighted as the enlightenments: Use the online platform as a scaffold to help students climb up English rather than an arbitrary monitor of the students' after-class English study; Reading and writing interweave, with writing taking priority to reading in Reading and Writing Course; The teacher respect students very much in class rather than behave in a ruling attitude; Grammar matters than expected.

Contemporary Development in English Listening Instruction

A Study on the Lack of Junior Middle School English Teachers’Language Awareness

This paper aims to take 20 Haikou XX Middle School English teachers as research subjects to investigate their language awareness by a questionnaire.According to the data,it can be seen that they seldom apply linguistic knowledge in classroom teaching.Their phonetic appearances are poor and pay too much attention to grammar teaching.Also,they rarely teach social cultural knowledge during teaching.And they still have a teacher-centered teaching concept.In case of enhancing their language awareness,teachers should change the tendency of paying too much attention to grammar and vocabulary knowledge,prevent the tendency of excessive emphasis on imitation,and advocate the learning model which combines language knowledge teaching and skills training.What’s more,teachers should cultivate students’cultural awareness and combine language and culture in teaching English.Finally,teachers should establish a student-centered teaching concept,and help students develop positive emotions to learn English.
