The concept, criterion, realization condition and design proposal of equal bending load-carrying capacity (EBLCC) are put forward. The theoretical analysis results have been verified by the finite element method. The simulation results are coincident basically with the ones of theoretical analysis. The research results show that the shape design of the reinforcement of EBLCC can improve BLCC of under-matched butt joint and the unilateral-side type reinforcement can replace double-side symmetry展开更多
Based on Hencky's total strain theory of plasticity,ultimate bending capacity of steel pipes can be determined analytically assuming an elastic-linear strain hardening material,the simplified analytical solution is p...Based on Hencky's total strain theory of plasticity,ultimate bending capacity of steel pipes can be determined analytically assuming an elastic-linear strain hardening material,the simplified analytical solution is proposed as well.Good agreement is observed when ultimate bending capacities obtained from analytical solutions are compared with experimental results from full-size tests of steel pipes.Parametric study conducted as part of this paper indicates that the strain hardening effect has significant influence on the ultimate bending capacity of steel pipes.It is shown that pipe considering strain hardening yields higher bending capacity than that of pipe assumed as elastic-perfectly plastic material.Thus,the ignorance of strain hardening effect,as commonly assumed in current codes,may underestimate the ultimate bending capacity of steel pipes.The solutions proposed in this paper are applicable in the design of offshore/onshore steel pipes,supports of offshore platforms and other tubular structural steel members.展开更多

Polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) and two-component polyurethane (PU) adhesives were used to construct joint specimens. The bending moment capacity of joints increased significantly with increased length and thickness of the loose tenon. Bending moment capacity of joints constructed with PU adhesive was approximately 13% higher than for joints constructed with PVAc adhesive. We developed a predictive equation as a function of adhesive type and loose tenon dimensions to estimate the strength of the joints constructed of oriental beech (Fagus orientalis L.) under uniaxial bending load.展开更多

An experimental investigation was conducted on the flexural behavior of FRP-PVC confined concrete circular tubular members.A total of six specimens were prepared and tested under flexural loading.The main parameters v...An experimental investigation was conducted on the flexural behavior of FRP-PVC confined concrete circular tubular members.A total of six specimens were prepared and tested under flexural loading.The main parameters varied in the tests were the layer of FRP and the strengthening approach of BFRP and CFRP.The failure modes,ultimate bending capacity and stress-strain relation curves were investigated in details.Furthermore,the relation model of moment(M)-curvature(φ)was studied,and on the basis of M-φ relation model,a simplified formula was presented to compute the ultimate bending moment capacity.The results show that the external confinement of concrete specimens by FRP-PVC tubes results in enhancing the ultimate bending strength and ultimate deformation,and the ultimate bending capacity increased with the FRP layers.Simultaneously,the reinforcement effect in CFRP is better than that in BFRP.The ultimate bending moment capacity values predicted by the presented formula agree well with the experimental results,which imply that the presented formula is applicable and efficient for prediction of the ultimate bending moment capacity as well.展开更多
We studied the effect of loose tenon dimensions on stress and strain distributions in T-shaped mortise and loose tenon (M&LT) furni-ture joints under uniaxial bending loads, and determined the effects of loose ...We studied the effect of loose tenon dimensions on stress and strain distributions in T-shaped mortise and loose tenon (M&LT) furni-ture joints under uniaxial bending loads, and determined the effects of loose tenon length (30, 45, 60, and 90 mm) and loose tenon thickness (6 and 8 mm) on bending moment capacity of M&LT joints constructed with polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) adhesive. Stress and strain distributions in joint elements were then estimated for each joint using ANSYS finite element (FE) software. The bending moment capacity of joints increased significantly with thickness and length of the tenon. Based on the FE analysis results, under uniaxial bending, the highest shear stress values were obtained in the middle parts of the tenon, while the highest shear elastic strain values were estimated in glue lines between the tenon sur-faces and walls of the mortise. Shear stress and shear elastic strain values in joint elements generally increased with tenon dimensions and corre-sponding bending moment capacities. There was consistency between predicted maximum shear stress values and failure modes of the joints.展开更多

The effects of hybrid fiber on the yield moment and bending bearing capacity of the cross-section have been analyzed, the calculation method for the bending capacity' is discussed and the propositional formula are provided as well. Results shoxv that the flexural properties increased obviously when add ≤1.0% of volume content steel fibers and ≤0.11% of volume content polypropylene fibers in to deep beam. The results are useful to the further amendments of fiber reinforced concrete structure technical regulation (CECS 38:2004).展开更多

However, the lack of studies regarding the steel joist-concrete girder ...So far, numerous numerical studies have been conducted on the behavior of Composite Reinforced Concrete-Steel (RCS) beam-to-column connections. However, the lack of studies regarding the steel joist-concrete girder connection has yet to be addressed through comprehensive finite element methods to get an understanding of influential parameters. Hence, in this paper, composite connection of embedded steel joist in concrete girder is investigated with an appropriate finite element software, namely, ABAQUS. The validity of the proposed model is examined by the comparison made with the test data in literature. Results indicate that maximum bending capacity of the connection is achieved when embedment ratio is 1.78. Moreover, double web angles in the embedment region significantly reduce the embedment length required to achieve the maximum bending capacity. Finally, damage analyses show that bending capacity of concrete girder is slightly reduced in the connection zone.展开更多

Increasing the bending capacity of reinforced concrete(RC)elements is one of important topics in structure engineering.The goal of this study is to develop a transferred stress system(TSS)on longitudinal reinforcement...Increasing the bending capacity of reinforced concrete(RC)elements is one of important topics in structure engineering.The goal of this study is to develop a transferred stress system(TSS)on longitudinal reinforcement bars for increasing the bending capacity of RC frames.The study is divided into two parts,i.e.,experimental tests and nonlinear FE analysis.The experiments were carried out to determine the load-deflection curves and crack patterns of the ordinary and TSS fixed frame.The FE models were developed for simulating the fixed frames.The obtained load-deflection results and the observed cracks from the FE analysis and experimental tests are compared to evaluate the validation of the FE nonlinear models.Based on the validated FE models,the stress distribution on the ordinary and TSS bars were evaluated.We found the load carrying capacity and ductility of TSS fixed beam are 29.39%and 23.69%higher compared to those of the ordinary fixed beams.The crack expansion occurs on the ordinary fixed beam,although there are several crack openings at mid-span of the TSS fixed beam.The crack distribution was changed in the TSS fixed frame.The TSS fixed beam is proposed to employ in RC frame instead of ordinary RC beam for improving the performance of RC frame.展开更多
