Modelling of bidirectional full bridge DC-DC converter as one of the most applicable converters has received significant attention. Mathematical modelling reduces the simulation time in comparison with detailed circuit response;moreover it is convenient for controller design purpose. Due to simple and effective methodology, average state space is the most common method among the modelling methods. In this paper a bidirectional full bridge converter is modelled by average state space and for each mode of operations a controller is designed. Attained mathematical model results are in a close agreement with detailed circuit simulation. 展开更多

In this paper,a stand-alone photovoltaic(PV)system based on a Double Ended Forward Converter(DEFC)is presented.The proposed converter is specified for 48 V,100Wapplications as most of the equipment used in telecommunication and aircraft fall in this range.The literature has limited potential application of DEFCin PV systems.The research work deals with an in-depth study of DEFCand proposes an improvedDEFCfor PV applications with battery backup.Besides,a bi-directional dc-dc converter for the battery is integrated to track theMaximumPower Point(MPP)of the PV generator.The converter is examined under variable irradiance and load conditions,and the analytical analysis of boundary conditions are implemented.The converter’s architecture also ensures built-in I-V curve tracing for the identification of MPP of PV generator.It offers low voltage stresses across switches and avoids sinking power supply and core resetting circuits.The topology’s behavior is analyzed based onMPP achievement and maintaining output under different conditions of battery backup availability,environmental,and load conditions.The PV system architecture is designed and analyzed theoretically and verified with simulations on the PSIM software. 展开更多

Modeling of Canonical Switching Cell Converter Using Genetic Algorithm

The working of Canonical switching cell(CSC)converter was studied and its equivalent circuit during ON and OFF states were obtained.State space model of CSC converter in ON and OFF states were developed using the Kirchhoff laws.The state space matrices were used to construct the transfer functions of ON&OFF states.The step response of the converter was simulated using MATLAB.The step response curve was obtained using different values of circuit components(L,C1,C2 and RL)and optimized.The characteristic parameters such as rise time,overshoot,settling time,steady state error and stability were determined using the step response curve.The response curve shows that there is no overshoot;the rise time and settling time are very low as expected for a converter and its stability is very high but the amplitude is very.The circuit was tuned to attain the expected amplitude using PID controller with the help of Genetic algorithm.The excellent results of circuits’characteristic parameters are very useful guideline for constructing such CSC converters for DC-DC conversions.The circuit characteristic parameters are useful in constructing such CSC converters for DCDC conversions in driving solar energy using solar panel. 展开更多

Bipolar medium-voltage DC(MVDC)and lowvoltage DC(LVDC)grids have the advantages of flexible integration of distributed renewable-energy generation and reliable power supply.In order to achieve voltage conversion,power transfer,and electrical isolation for bipolar MVDC and LVDC grids,a high-power DC-DC converter is essential.Therefore,this paper proposes an isolated bipolar modular multilevel DCDC converter(BiMMDC)with power self-balancing capability for interconnection of MVDC and LVDC grids.The proposed BiMMDC consists of two series connected MMCs in the MV stage to configure a bipolar MVDC interface,and interleaved converters combined with a dual-transformer are designed in the LV stage to configure the bipolar LVDC interface and to provide a self-balancing capability.Equivalent circuits of two series-connected MMCs and a dual-transformer with interleaved converters are derived.After that,operation principles of the proposed BiMMDC are introduced,considering balanced/unbalanced power transfer of bipolar LVDC grid and monopolar shortcircuit or open-circuit faults at MVDC grid.The control scheme is also presented for the proposed BiMMDC under different operating conditions.Finally,a Matlab simulation and controller hardware-in-the-loop(CHIL)evaluation results are provided to validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed typology and its operating performance. 展开更多

This paper proposes a DC fault protection strategy for large multi-terminal HVDC(MTDC)network where MMC based DC-DC converter is configured at strategic locations to allow the large MTDC network to be operated interconnected but partitioned into islanded DC network zones following faults.Each DC network zone is protected using either AC circuit breakers coordinated with DC switches or slow mechanical type DC circuit breakers to minimize the capital cost.In case of a DC fault event,DC-DC converters which have inherent DC fault isolation capability provide‘firewall’between the faulty and healthy zones such that the faulty DC network zone can be quickly isolated from the remaining of the MTDC network to allow the healthy DC network zones to remain operational.The validity of the proposed protection arrangement is confirmed using MATLAB/SIMULINK simulations. 展开更多

A charge pump design is presented to operate at 10 kHz with 100 μA in a liquid crystal display (LCD) driver for cell phone. Optimal channel widths are designed by estimating the power consumption of the Fibonacci-like charge pump. An optimal frequency is a compromise between the rise time and the dynamic power dissipation. The optimization of the two-phase nonoverlapping clock generator circuit improves the efficiency. Simulation results based on 1.2 μm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology parameters verify the efficiency of the design. 展开更多
