The rodent running-wheel recording apparatus is a reliable approach for studying cir-cadian rhythm.This study demonstrated how to construct a simple and intelligent running-wheel recording system.The running wheel was attached to the cage's base,whereas the Hall sensor was attached to the cage's cover.Then,the RJ25 adaptor relayed the running signal to the main control board.Finally,the main control board was connected to the USB port of the computer with the USB connection.Data were collected using the online-accessible,self-created software Magturning.Through Magturning,generated data were saved and exported in real time.Afterward,the device was validated by collecting data on the locomotor activities of mice under dif-ferent light conditions.In conclusion,this new device can record circadian activity of rodents.Our device is appropriate for interdisciplinary investigations related to biological clock research. 展开更多

In the modern science, priority is given for the search of biological active compounds with specific properties. As a result of experimental data, it was found that in the reaction between N-(<em>β</em>-D-glycopyranosyl)-semicarbazide and the Lawesson reagent (2,4-bis(p-methoxyphenyl)-1,3-dithiadiphosphetane 2,4-disulfide) at the ratio 1:1 in pyridine when boiling under reflux in a water bath for 20 - 35 minutes, a new synthetic compound N-(<em>β</em>-D-glycopyranosyl)-thiosemicarbazide is formed. The individuality and structure of the target products were confirmed by 13C NMR spectroscopy, 1H NMR spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. For the synthesized new compounds of N-(<em>β</em>-D-glycopyranosyl)-thiosemicarbazides, the probability of pharmacological and toxic effects were predicted by the computer method in silico. From the synthesized compounds N-(<em>β</em>-D-galactopyranosyl)-thiosemicarbazide, the probability of antibacterial (antibacterial) activity is predicted (<em>Pa</em>/<em>Pi</em> 0.544/0.013). The antibacterial activity of the compound (4) was confirmed in a test for salmonella infection of lambs, salmonellosis of calves, and colipathogenic E. coli serotypes. An experimental study by the in vitro method made it possible to conclude that the new synthetic compound N-(<em>β</em>-D-galactopyranosyl)-thiosemicarbazide in the studied concentrations has a pronounced bactericidal and bacteriostatic effect. The synthetic new compound N-(<em>β</em>-D-glyco- pyranosyl)-thiosemicarbazide is a promising compound for further study. 展开更多

Explaining the mechanism of the cochlear active phonosensitive amplification has been a major problem in medicine.The basilar membrane(BM)is the key infrastructure.In 1960,Nobel Laureate von B′ek′esy first discovered BM's traveling wave motion.Since that time,BM's models only have considered the traveling wave but not the biological activity.Therefore,a new model considering changes of BM's stiffness in space and time is established based on the immersed boundary method to describe its biological activity.It not only reproduces the results of traveling wave motion but also explains the mechanization on the generation of traveling wave.An important discovery is that changes of BM's stiffness in space and time will cause the unstable global resonance,which will induce amplification of sounds in cochlea.An important inference is that biological activity shall be included in the application of mechanical principles to the analysis of life,which is the essential difference between biomechanics and general mechanics. 展开更多

When the concentration was 100.00 mg/ml, the corrected mortality at 48 h roached 97.24%, and the insec- ticidal activities of five solvent extracts against cabbage worm in sequence were water 〉 n-butanol 〉 ethyl acetate 〉 ether 〉 petroleum ether, the cor- rected mortality of water extract at 48 h was 95.87% ; the antifeedant activities of five solvent extracts in sequence were water 〉 n-butanol 〉 ethyl ac- etate 〉 ether 〉 petroleum ether. Polysaccharides are the important biologically active components found in the peel of Dioscorea opposita Thunb.(DTTP).The influences of 4 extraction methods,namely hot water extraction(W),acidic extraction(HA),hot-compressed water extraction(HCW)and enzyme-assisted extraction(EAE),on the yields,physicochemical properties,hypoglycemic and antioxidant activities of polysaccharides from DTTP were studied and compared.Among these DTTP polysaccharides,DTTP-HA was outstanding in several respects.DTTP-HA was the most water soluble;it had the highest total carbohydrate content(85.08%),the highest uronic acid(13.20%)and the highest thermal stability.DTTP-HA and DTTP-W possessed a triple-helix structure.These 4 kinds of polysaccharides have the same types of monosaccharides,but in different molar percentages.Extraction method had a significant impact on the microstructures of the extracted polysaccharides.DTT-HA exhibited irregular structure with many holes.Among the 4 extracted methods,the DTTP-HA and DTTP-W initially exhibited higher hypoglycemic and antioxidant activities.The better bioactivities of DTTP-HA may be related to the above factors.The findings indicated that acid extraction is an effective method to extract polysaccharides with high biological activities from DTTP. 展开更多

[Objective] This study aims to screen for the high effective fungicides which could significantly decrease the disease incidence and disease index of rice false smut. [Method] The inhibitory activities of the fungicide against mycelial growth of Ustilaginoidea virens were measured to in vitro evaluate the ECho values. And 17 fungicides were sprayed to evaluate the efficacy and effect of the fungicides tested in the field trials on the rice characters, [Result] The results showed that epoxicona- zole, difenoconazole, propiconazole and procloraz exhibited high inhibitory activity against mycelial growth of Ustilaginoidea virens with the ECso values 0.04, 0.07, 0.12 and 0.11 pg/ml, respectively. The results of field trials showed that the efficacy of Wen- quning, and fungicides such as difenoconazole, prochloraz, propiconazole, epoxi- conazole and their mixtures in controlling rice false smut were all 70% or more. [Conclusion] The 17 tested fungicides behaved efficacy in controlling rice false smut and did not cause drug injury on leaves and grains of rice plants, sprayed when flag leaves of rice fully expanded. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Modern pharmacological studies have confirmed that plant-derived compounds from Puerariae flos(PF)has significant biological activities against liver damage,tumors and inflammation.Kakkatin is an isoflavone polyphenolic compound isolated from PF flower.However,the effect of kakkatin and its derivatives on anti-tumor has not been well explored.AIM To design and synthesize a kakkatin derivative[6-(hept-6-yn-1-yloxy)-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-7-methoxy-4H-chromen-4-one(HK)]to explore its anti-tumor biological activity.METHODS Hept-6-yn-1-yl ethanesulfonate was introduced to replace hydrogen at the hydroxyl position of kakkatin phenol,and the derivative of kakkatin was prepared;the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide was used to detect cell viability,a clone formation assay was adopted to detect cell proliferation,apoptosis,necrosis,and cell cycles were analyzed by Annexin V/propidium iodide staining and flow cytometry.Cell migration and invasion ability were evaluated by cell scratch assay and transwell assay.The potential mechanism of HK on hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)SMMC-7721 cells was explored through network pharmacology and molecular docking,and finally real-time PCR assays was used to verify the potential targets and evaluate the biological activity of HK.RESULTS Compared with kakkatin,the modified HK did not significantly increase the inhibitory activity of gastric cancer MGC803 cells,but the inhibitory activity of HCC SMMC-7721 cells was increased by about 30 times,with an IC50 value of 2.5μM,and the tumor inhibition effect was better than cisplatin,which could significantly inhibit the cloning,invasion and metastasis of HCC SMMC-7721 cells,and induce apoptosis and G2/M cycle arrest.Its mechanism of action is mainly related to the upregulation of PDE3B and NFKB1 target proteins in the cAMP pathway.CONCLUSION HK have a significant inhibitory effect on HCC SMMC-7721 cells,and the targets of their action may be PDE3B and NFKB1 proteins in the cAMP pathway,making it a good lead drug for the treatment of HCC. 展开更多

[Method] Using ultrasonic extraction, 5 kinds of different polarity solvents were used to prepare the extracts from walnut green husk. The toxicity and antifeedant activity on wheat aphid were determined, [ Result ] Walnut green husk extracts in the solvent of ethanol, acetone, ethyl acetate had higher toxicity and antifeedant activity on wheat aphid. When the concentration was 100 mg/ml, after 24 h, the toxicity and antifeedant activity of three kinds extracts on wheat aphid were greater than 84.35% and 66.98%, respectively. After 48 h, the toxicity and antifeedant activity were greater than 85.91% and 79.34%, respectively. Among 5 kinds extracts,ethanol extracts had the highest toxicity and antifeedant activity on wheat aphid. After 24 h, the corrected mortality rate was 93.64% and the antifeedant rate was 83.61%. After 48 h,the corrected mortality rate was 94.95% and antifeedant rate was 92.21%. Petroleum ether extract had the smallest toxicity and antifeedant activity on wheat aphid. This research focuses on the evaluation of diverse approaches for removing formaldehyde from indoor environments,which is a significant concern for indoor air quality.The study systematically examines physical,chemical,and biological methods to ascertain their effectiveness in formaldehyde mitigation.Physical methods,including air circulation and adsorption,particularly with activated carbon and molecular sieves,are assessed for their efficiency in various concentration scenarios.Chemical methods,such as photocatalytic oxidation using titanium dioxide and plasma technology,are analyzed for their ability to decompose formaldehyde into non-toxic substances.Additionally,biological methods involving plant purification and microbial transformation are explored for their eco-friendly and sustainable removal capabilities.The paper concludes that while each method has its merits,a combined approach may offer the most effective solution for reducing indoor formaldehyde levels.The study underscores the need for further research to integrate these methods in a practical,cost-effective,and environmentally sustainable manner,highlighting their potential to improve indoor air quality significantly. 展开更多

Gastropods,a mollusk class including slugs and snails,represent an extraordinarily diverse and ecologically significant group of organisms featuring the largest class of invertebrates.They can be classified as aquatic and terrestrial animals having coiled shells,although some species have reduced or absent shells.Their unique body structure includes a muscular foot for locomotion,a visceral mass containing essential organs,and a distinct head region with sensory organs such as tentacles and eyes.They are used to secrete a complex mixture of glycoproteins,enzymes,peptides,mucus and other bioactive compounds,namely slime,which represents a tool to allow locomotion,protection,and interaction within different habitats.The biological activities of the slime have attracted considerable interest due to their diverse and potentially valuable properties ranging from defense mechanisms to potential therapeutic applications in wound healing,antimicrobial therapy,management of inflammation,and neurological disorders.This review aims at exploring the beneficial effects of snail and slug slime focusing,in particular,on the improvement of the biological processes underlying them.Continued exploration of the intricate components of these slimy secretions promises to discover new bioactive molecules with diverse applications in various scientific and industrial fields. 展开更多
