Firstly, to obtain the dimensionless governing equation of the system, the original bistable system is approximated as a system without viscoelastic term by using the stochastic averaging method of energy envelope, and then is further decoupled to derive an equivalent system. The credibility of the proposed method is validated by contrasting the consistency between the numerical and the analytical results of the equivalent system under different noise conditions. The influence of system parameters on average output power is analyzed, and the control effect of the time-delayed feedback control on system performance is compared. The output performance of the system is improved with the occurrence of stochastic resonance(SR). Therefore, the signal-to-noise ratio expression for measuring SR is derived, and the dependence of its SR behavior on different parameters is explored.展开更多

This nonlinear feedback technology is useful to control a temporally chaotic system as well as a spatiotemporally chaotic system. It can be extended to synchronize the spatiotemporal chaos. It can work in a wide range of the controlled and synchronized signals, so it can decrease the sensitivity down to a noise level. The synchronization can be obtained by the analysis of the largest conditional Lyapunov exponent spectrum, and easily implemented in practical systems just by adjusting the coupled strength without any pre-knowledge of the dynamic system required.展开更多

Under the adiabatic approximation condition, the expression of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is obtained. It finds that the SNR is a non-monotonic function of the delayed times, of the amplitude of the driving square-wave signal, as well as of the asymmetry of the dichotomous noise. In addition, the SNR varies non-monotonously with the intensities of the multiplicative and additive noise as well as the system parameters. Moreover, the SNR depends non-monotonically on the correlate rate of the dichotomous noise.展开更多

Using the linear response theory(LRT), the expressions of the spectral amplification at fundamental and higher-order harmonic are obtained. The effects of damping coefficient, noise intensity, signal amplitude, and frequency on spectral amplifications are explored. An elastic magnifier (EM) positioned between the base and the bistable oscillator is used to magnify the base vibration displacement to significantly enhance the output characteristics of the bistable oscillator. The dimensionless electromechanical equations of the bistable oscillator with an EM are derived, and the effects of the mass and stiffness ratios between the EM and the bistable oscillator on the output displacement are studied. It is shown that the jump phenomenon occurs at a lower excitation level with increasing the mass and stiffness ratios. With the comparison of the displacement trajectories and the phase portraits obtained from experiments, it is vMidated that the bistable oscillator with an EM can effectively oscillate in a high-energy orbit and can generate a superior output vibration at a low excitation level as compared with the bistable oscillator without an EM.展开更多

Results of theoretical analysis and numerical simulation show that the phenomenon of stochastic resonance happens when the time scales of the periodic signal and the noise-induced probability transitions between the two potential wells achieve stochastic synchronization. By adding a bistable system with a controllable periodic signal, fluctuations in the single potential well can be effectively controlled, thus affecting the probability transitions between the two potential wells. In this way, an effective control can be achieved which allows one to either enhance or realize stochastic resonance.展开更多

In this letter, the optimum design of the bistable cylindrical shell for broadband energy harvesting application is investigated from the structural point of view. The output power is evaluated by the concept of the harvestable power, which balances the frequency of snap through and the referred output energy associated with each snap through. The non- dimensional harvestable power is analytically expressed as the function of the non-dimensional curvature parameter and one constructed parameter. The universal dependence of the optimal curvature parameter and the associated optimal harvestable power on the constructed parameter is derived, which can be well aooroximated by the linear relation in double logarithmic coordinate.展开更多

Many kinds of compliant bistable mechanisms were proposed and studied during the past decade. Among them, tension-based compliant bistable mechanisms, that incorporate tension pivots as their flexible members, feature in short travel distance and low power consuming. So far, the design of this kind of bistable mechanisms is done using finite element method through trial and error, thus is time-consuming. By treating the tension pivots as fixed-guided segments and their elongation as a spring, we developed a novel three degree-of-freedom (3-DOF) pseudo-rigid-body model (PRBM) for this kind of bistable mechanisms. The principle of virtual work is used to derive the force-deflection relationship of the PRBM model. The comparison between the PRBM results and the experimental results of the force-deflection characteristics shows that the PRBM can predict not only the bistable behavior of the tension-based bistable mechanisms, but also their soft spring-like post-bistable behavior and the spring-like force-deflection characteristics when pulling in the reverse direction from the as-fabricated position, which is called reverse behavior. The 3-DOF PRBM can be used to design and identify tension-based bistable mechanisms. Using the PRBM instead of the trial-and-error method can greatly reduce the development time of this kind of bistable mechanisms.展开更多

文摘The shallow cylindrical structure is suitable to develop broadband vibration energy harvesters due to the property of the inherent mechanical bistability. The universal dependence of the optimal curvature parameter and the associated optimal harvestable power on the constructed parameter is derived, which can be well aooroximated by the linear relation in double logarithmic coordinate.

文摘Compliant bistable mechanisms, devices with two distinct stable equilibrium positions, are used in a variety of applications, such as switches, clasps, and valves. Using the PRBM instead of the trial-and-error method can greatly reduce the development time of this kind of bistable mechanisms.

文摘The phenomenon of stochastic resonance is investigated in an asymmetric bistable system with coloured noises. The approximate Fokker Planck equation is derived based on the Novikov theorem and the Fox approach. By applying the two-state theory, the expression of the signal-to-noise ratio is obtained in the adiabatic limit. The effects of the noise parameters on signal-to-ratio are discussed. It is found that the stochastic resonance phenomena appear in most cases and disappear in some special cases.
