Based on the newly derived formula, THM coupling fracture modes (including tensile, shear and mixed fracture mode) can be predicted by a new fracture criterion of stress intensity factor ratio, where the maximum axial load was measured by self-designed THM coupling fracture test. SEM analyses of THM coupling fractured surface indicate that the higher the temperature and hydraulic pressure are and the lower the confining pressure is, the more easily the intergranular (tension) fracture occurs. The transgranular (shear) fracture occurs in the opposite case while the mixed-mode fracture occurs in the middle case. The tested THM coupling fracture mechanisms are in good agreement with the predicted THM coupling fracture modes, which can verify correction of the newly-derived THM coupling stress intensity factor formula.展开更多

Therefore, it is essential to better understand the mechanisms associated with the rockburst phenomenon. However, due to the large-scale and difficult monitoring of real mining excavations, laboratory scale tests must be utilised to determine the conditions conducive to burst. To this end, this research focuses on the implementation of a new rockburst testing apparatus to replicate the stress conditions of a rock mass excavation at the time of bursting. This apparatus allows the determination of rockburst stresses and a relationship between deviatoric stress and in-situ pressure/depth. Using this relationship it is then possible to estimate the standardised stress levels for a certain rock type which might lead to rockburst occurrence. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that with increasing in-situ pressure, the likelihood(measured as a lower differential stress) and the extent(indicated by the increasing range of deviatoric stress) of rockburst increases. These findings provide valuable information about the conditions necessary for bursting in deep mining.展开更多

A static and dynamic stresses superposition-based(SDSS-based) risk evaluation method of rock burst was proposed to pre-evaluate rock burst risk. Theoretical basis of this method is the stress criterion incurring rock burst and rock burst risk is evaluated according to the closeness degree of the total stress(due to the superposition of static stress in the coal and dynamic stress induced by tremors) with the critical stress. In addition, risk evaluation criterion of rock burst was established by defining the "Satisfaction Degree" of static stress. Furthermore, the method was used to pre-evaluate rock burst risk degree and prejudge endangered area of an insular longwall face in Nanshan Coal Mine in China. Results show that rock burst risk is moderate at advance extent of 97 m, strong at advance extent of 97-131 m,and extremely strong(i.e. inevitable to occur) when advance extent exceeds 131 m(mining is prohibited in this case). The section of two gateways whose floor abuts 15-3 coal seam is a susceptible area prone to rock burst. Evaluation results were further compared with rock bursts and tremors detected by microseismic monitoring. Comparison results indicate that evaluation results are consistent with microseismic monitoring, which proves the method's feasibility.展开更多

Their deformation and destruction are serious, and frequent failures occur on the bolt support. The failure mechanism of bolt support is proposed to solve these problems. A calculation theory is established on the bond strength of the interface between the anchoring agent and surrounding rocks. An analysis is made on the influence law of different mechanical parameters of surrounding rocks on the interfacial bond strength. Based on the research, a new high-strength bolt-grouting technology is developed and applied on site. Besides, some helpful engineering suggestions and measures are proposed. The research shows that the serious deformation and failure, and the lower bond strength are the major factors causing frequent failures of bolt support. So, the bolt could not give full play to its supporting potential. It is also shown that as the integrity, strength, interface dilatancy and stress of surrounding rocks are improved, the bond strength will increase. So, the anchoring force on surrounding rocks can be effectively improved by employing an anchoring agent with high sand content, mechanical anchoring means, or grouting reinforcement. The new technology has advantages in a high strength, imposing pre-tightening force, and giving full play to the bolt supporting potential. Hence, it can improve the control effect on surrounding rocks. All these could be helpful references for the design of bolt support in deep underground mines.展开更多

文摘Residual strength is an indispensable factor in evaluating rock fracture, yet the current Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics(SPH)framework rarely considers its influence when simulating fracture. An improved cracking strategy considering residual stress in the base bond SPH method was proposed to simulate failures in layered rocks and slopes and verified by experimental results and other simulation methods(i.e.,the discrete element method).Modified Mohr–Coulomb failure criterion was applied to distinguish the mixed failure of tensile and shear.Bond fracture markψwas introduced to improve the kernel function after tensile damage, and the calculation of residual stress after the damage was derived after shear damage.Numerical simulations were carried out to evaluate its performance under different stress and scale conditions and to verify its effectiveness in realistically reproducing crack initiation and propagation and coalescence, even fracture and separation. The results indicate that the improved cracking strategy precisely captures the fracture and failure pattern in layered rocks and rock slopes. The residual stress of brittle tock is correctly captured by the improved SPH method. The improved SPH method that considers residual strength shows an approximately 13%improvement in accuracy for the safety factor of anti-dip layered slopes compared to the method that does not consider residual strength,as validated against analytical solutions. We infer that the improved SPH method is effective and shows promise for applications to continuous and discontinuous rock masses.
文摘During the construction and operation of gas storage reservoirs, changes in the principal stress direction can induce fracture propagation under conditions of lower differential stress, potentially leading to failure in the surrounding rock. However, the weakening of strength due to pure stress rotation has not yet been investigated.Based on fracture mechanics,an enhanced Mohr-Coulomb strength criterion considering stress rotation is proposed and verified with experimental and numerical simulations. The micro-damage state and the evolution of the rock under the pure stress-rotation condition are analyzed. The findings indicate that differential stress exceeding the crack initiation stress is a prerequisite for stress rotation to promote the development of rock damage. As the differential stress increases, stress rotation is more likely to induce rock damage, leading to a transition from brittle to plastic failure, characterized by wider fractures and a more complex fracture network.Overall,a negative exponential relationship exists between the stress rotation angle required for rock failure and the differential stress. The feasibility of applying the enhanced criterion to practical engineering is discussed using monitoring data obtained from a mine-by tunnel. This study introduces new concepts for understanding the damage evolution of the surrounding rock under complex stress paths and offers a new theoretical basis for predicting the damage of gas storage reservoirs.

文摘Stress measurement plays a crucial role in geomechanics and rock engineering, especially for the design and construction of large-scale rock projects. This paper presents a novel method, based on the traditional stress relief approach, for indirectly measuring rock stress using optical techniques. The proposed method allows for the acquisition of full-field strain evolution on the borehole’s inner wall before and after disturbance, facilitating the determination of three-dimensional(3D)stress information at multiple points within a single borehole. The study focuses on presenting the method’s theoretical framework, laboratory validation results, and equipment design conception. The theoretical framework comprises three key components:the optical imaging method of the borehole wall, the digital image correlation(DIC)method, and the stress calculation procedure.Laboratory validation tests investigate strain field distribution on the borehole wall under varying stress conditions, with stress results derived from DIC strain data.Remarkably, the optical method demonstrates better measurement accuracy during the unloading stage compared to conventional strain gauge methods. At relatively high stress levels, the optical method demonstrates a relative error of less than 7%and an absolute error within 0.5 MPa.Furthermore,a comparative analysis between the optical method and the conventional contact resistance strain gauge method highlights the optical method’s enhanced accuracy and stability, particularly during the unloading stage. The proposed optical stress measurement device represents a pioneering effort in the application of DIC technology to rock engineering, highlighting its potential to advance stress measurement techniques in the field.

文摘Testing of large-sized specimens is becoming increasingly important in deep underground rock mechanics and engineering. In traditional mechanical loading, stresses on large-sized specimens are achieved by large host frames and hydraulic pumps, which could lead to great investment.Low-cost testing machines clearly always have great appeal. In this study,a new approach is proposed using thermal expansion stress to load rock specimens, which may be particularly suitable for tests of deep hot dry rock with high temperatures. This is a different technical route from traditional mechanical loading through hydraulic pressure. For the rock mechanics test system of hot dry rock that already has an investment in heating systems, this technology may reduce the cost of the loading subsystem by fully utilizing the temperature changes. This paper presents the basic principle and a typical design of this technical solution.Preliminary feasibility analysis is then conducted based on numerical simulations.Although some technical details still need to be resolved, the feasibility of this loading approach has been preliminarily confirmed.

文摘A new calculation formula of THM coupling stress intensity factor was derived by the boundary collocation method, in which an additional constant stress function was successfully introduced for the cracked specimen with hydraulic pressure applied on its crack surface. The tested THM coupling fracture mechanisms are in good agreement with the predicted THM coupling fracture modes, which can verify correction of the newly-derived THM coupling stress intensity factor formula.

文摘The occurrence of overlying coal pillar(OCP)exerts a strong effect on the stress and strain distribution of the surrounding rock in the stope. In this paper, the stress distribution characteristics are analyzed via the numerical calculation with the account of OCP presence or absence. In addition, this study revealed the joint effect of side pressure relief area of the goaf and stress concentration in OCP on the final stress distribution.Furthermore, the rules of abutment stress distribution affected by three influencing factors, namely horizontal-vertical distances between OCP and working face and buried depth of OCP,are analyzed. The functional model linking the peak stress of surrounding rock with the above influencing factors is developed. The field application of the above results proved that the rib spalling and deformation of a 2.95 m-high and 5.66 m-wide roadway could be efficiently controlled by rationally adjusting working states of the support, and adopting the hydraulic prop coordinated with the p type metal beam and anchor cable to strengthen the surrounding rock of working face and roadway, respectively. The proposed measures are considered appropriate to satisfy the safe operation requirements.

文摘As mining delves deeper into the crust, it is necessary to investigate the complex rock responses associated with higher stress gradients. These findings provide valuable information about the conditions necessary for bursting in deep mining.

文摘Rock burst is one of the most catastrophic dynamic hazards in coal mining. Comparison results indicate that evaluation results are consistent with microseismic monitoring, which proves the method's feasibility.

文摘In the context of deep rock engineering, the in-situ stress state is of major importance as it plays an important role in rock dynamic response behavior. Thus, stress initialization becomes crucial and is the first step for the dynamic response simulation of rock mass in a high in-situ stress field. In this paper, stress initialization methods, including their principles and operating procedures for reproducing steady in-situ stress state in LS-DYNA,are first introduced. Then the most popular four methods,i.e.,explicit dynamic relaxation(DR)method,implicit-explicit sequence method,Dynain file method and quasi-static method, are exemplified through a case analysis by using the RHT and plastic hardening rock material models to simulate rock blasting under in-situ stress condition.Based on the simulations,it is concluded that the stress initialization results obtained by implicit-explicit sequence method and dynain file method are closely related to the rock material model, and the explicit DR method has an obvious advantage in solution time when compared to other methods.Besides that,it is recommended to adopt two separate analyses for the whole numerical simulation of rock mass under the combined action of in-situ stress and dynamic disturbance.
文摘To clarify some aspects of rock destruction with a disc acting on a high confined tunnel face, a series of tests were carried out to examine fracture mechanisms under an indenter that simulates the tunnel boring machine (TBM) tool action, in the presence of an adjacent groove, when a state of stress (lateral confinement) is imposed on a rock sample. These tests proved the importance of carefully establishing the optimal distance of grooves produced by discs acting on a confined surface, and the value (as a mere order of magnitude) of the increase of the thrust to produce the initiation of chip formation, as long as the confinement pressure becomes greater.

文摘In actual production, deep coal mine roadways are often under typical static-dynamic coupling stress(SDCS)conditions with high ground stress and strong dynamic disturbances. With the increasing number of disasters and accidents induced by SDCS conditions, the safe and efficient production of coal mines is seriously threatened. Therefore,it is of great practical significance to study the deformation and failure characteristics of the roadway surrounding rock under SDCS.In this paper, the effects of different in-situ stress fields and dynamic load conditions on the surrounding rock are studied by numerical simulations, and the deformation and failure characteristics are obtained.According to the simulation results, the horizontal stress, vertical stress and dynamic disturbance have a positive correlation with the plastic failure of the surrounding rock.Among these factors, the influence of the dynamic disturbance is the most substantial.Under the same stress conditions, the extents of deformation and plastic failure of the roof and ribs are always greater than those of the floor. The effect of horizontal stresses on the roadway deformation is more notable than that of vertical stresses. The results indicate that for the roadway under high-stress conditions, the in-situ stress test must be strengthened first. After determining the magnitude of the in-situ stress, the location of the roadway should be reasonably arranged in the design to optimize the mining sequence. For roadways that are strongly disturbed by dynamic loads, rock supports(rebar/cable bolts, steel set etc.)that are capable of maintaining their effectiveness without failure after certain dynamic loads are required. The results of this study contribute to understanding the characteristics of the roadway deformation and failure under SDCS,and can be used to provide a basis for the support design and optimization under similar geological and geotechnical circumstances.

文摘It has become an inevitable trend of human development to seek resources from the deep underground. However, rock encountered in deep underground engineering is usually in an anisotropic stress state(σ_(1)>σ>σ_(3))due to the influences of geological structures and engineering disturbances. It is therefore essential to study the mechanical, seepage, and dynamic disaster behaviors of deep rock under true triaxial stress to ensure the safe operation of deep rock engineering and the efficient exploitation of deep resources. In recent years, experimental techniques and research on true triaxial rock mechanics have achieved fruitful results that have promoted the rapid development of deep rock mechanics;thus,it is necessary to systematically review and summarize these developments. This work first introduced several typical true triaxial testing apparatus and then reviewed the corresponding research progress on rock deformation, strength, failure mode, brittleness, and energy as well as the 3D volumetric fracturing(dynamic disaster)properties of deep rocks under true triaxial stress. Then, several commonly used true triaxial rock strength criteria and their applicability, the permeability characteristics and mathematical models of deep reservoir rocks, and the disaster-causing processes and mechanisms of disturbed volumetric fracturing(rockburst, compound dynamic disasters)in deep rock engineering were described. This work may provide an essential reference for addressing the true triaxial rock mechanics issues involved in deep rock engineering, especially regarding the stability of surrounding rock at depth, disaster prevention and control, and oil and gas exploitation.

文摘In deep underground mining, the surrounding rocks are very soft with high stress. All these could be helpful references for the design of bolt support in deep underground mines.
文摘An extended displacement discontinuity method (EDDM) is proposed to analyze the stress wave propagation in jointed viscoelastic rock mass (VRM).The discontinuities in a rock mass are divided into two groups. The primary group with an average geometrical size larger than or in the same order of magnitude of wavelength of a concerned stress wave is defined as 'macro-joints',while the secondary group with a high density and relatively small geometrical size compared to the wavelength is known as 'micro-defects'.The rock mass with micro-defects is modeled as an equivalent viscoelastic medium while the macro-joints in the rock mass are modeled explicitly as physical discontinuities.Viscoelastic properties of a micro-defected sedimentary rock are obtained by longitudinally impacting a cored long sedimentary rod with a pendulum.Wave propagation coefficient and dynamic viscoelastic modulus are measured. The EDDM is then successfully employed to analyze the wave propagation across macro-joint in VRM.The effect of the rock viscosity on the stress wave propagation is evaluated by comparing the results of VRM from the presented EDDM with those of an elastic rock mass (ERM) from the conventional displacement discontinuity method (CDDM).The CDDM is a special case of the EDDM under the condition that the rock viscosity is ignored.Comparison of the reflected and transmitted waves shows that the essential rock viscosity has a significant effect on stress wave attenuation. When a short propagation distance of a stress wave is considered, the results obtained from the CDDM approximate to the EDDM solutions, however, when the propagation distance is sufficiently long relative to the wavelength, the effect of rock viscosity on the stress wave propagation cannot be ignored.

文摘In this study, the tomography of dynamic stress coefficient(TDSC)was established based on a mechanical model of stress wave propagation in bedding planes and a mathematical model of the stress wave attenuation in rock masses. The reliability of the TDSC was verified by a linear bedding plane model and field monitoring.Generally, the TDSC in the dynamic stress propagation of bedding planes increases with the following conditions:(1)the increase of the normal stiffness of the bedding plane,(2)the increase of the incident angle of the stress wave,(3)the decrease of the incident frequency of the stress wave,or(4)the growth of three ratios(the ratios of rock densities, elastic moduli, and the Poisson’s ratios)of rocks on either side of bedding planes. The additional stress weakens TDSC linearly and slowly during the stress wave propagation in bedding planes, and the weakening effect increases with the growth of the three ratios.Besides, the TDSC decreases exponentially in the rock mass as propagation distance increases. In a field case, the TDSC decreases significantly as vertical and horizontal distances increase and its wave range increases as vertical distance increases in the sedimentary rock layers.
